Average Function With #VALUE! Error In Reference Cells

Jan 15, 2006

how to make the average,median,max, and/or min functions ignore cells in the referenced range that contain the #value! error? All four of the functions are returning #value! because one or more in the referenced range have the error.

Worksheet.function Average Returning Error "Unable To Get The Average Property Of The WorksheetFunction Class"

Jan 23, 2007

TotHCInv.Value = WorksheetFunction. Sum(KRInv, PBLInv, CRInv, PVInv)
If i >= 34 Then CPSCtphRMA.Value = WorksheetFunction.Average("G" & (i - 30) & ":G" & i)

The first line runs properly, but the second line bugs out with the error message "Unable to get the Average property of the WorksheetFunction class". I can simply do the math, but I thought that using the worksheet function would be easier than summing and dividing. I'm curious, though, as to why I can't seem to use the Average function.

Use Sheet Reference In Average Function?

Nov 27, 2013

Each sheet contains the test data for an individual class and I am trying to create a "Totals" sheet where I can show the average that each class had on a particular test and the letter grade breakdown. I am trying to create one 'average' formula that I may then copy across that will change the sheet reference automatically without me having to manually re-create the formula every time I add a new class sheet. I tried using the INDIRECT function but could not get it to work. Keep getting #Ref error.

Reference Error Cells Without Error Being Returned

I have a VB function in a worksheet that requires data from a workbook that is not under my control. The problem is that the workbook does not always have complete data. Often cells are filled with #VALUE, when this occurs I need a way to tell my VBA to assume a value of 0. I have tried using if(cell="#VALUE", 0,cell) but to no avail. any suggestions?

Prevent #DIV/0 Error In Average When All Cells Are Blank/Empty

May 19, 2008

I'm looking for a function that will display the average of a row of cells, while at the same time not displaying any error messages. It's easy to average cells without blank values, but to combine that with no errors is difficult for me. I saw many ways to do the average, one of which is:

= SUM(A1:E1)/COUNTIF(A1:E1,">0")

That function doesn't work for a row of blank cells (i.e., hidden rows), though. The result is an error message.

I also read about a way to ignore an error in a computation:

=IF(ISERROR(F1),"",F1)

The problem is when I combine those functions I get a blank cell no matter which function I put first, and without regards to cell values or not. The reason I want this to be error-free is that I have to average the "average column" at the bottom of the table, too (i.e., F100).

Average & Sum Function With Empty Cells

Jun 8, 2007

I have data in Column A as follows:

A1 15
A2
A3 20
A4 56
A5 45
A6
A7 71
A8
A9 23

where cells A2, A6 and A8 are empty.

I want to be able to AVERAGE or SUM the first four nonblank cells. I know I could manually select the cells, but I have a spreadsheet with 30 columns and 40 rows, and the data (including empty cells) in each column is different.

Is there a single formula that will find the first four nonblank cells and then perform the AVERAGE or SUM function?

Average Function And Not Count The Blank Cells

Jul 10, 2008

I've got a spreadsheet that I do every month with columns of numbers that I average. This sheet has to match about 10 others similar. The columns are divided by Weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays. But some months there are no entries for certain cells on Saturday or Sunday.

I thought that if I just used the Average function, it would dismiss and not count the blank cells. Alas, apparently not. I've highlighted in yellow the one column that I'm really having trouble with.

Incorporating Variable Into Average Function To Locate Cells

Nov 12, 2012

I am trying out VBA to write a macro in order to average every 25 cells in a column. My attempt so far is

Dim myrow1 As Integer
Dim myrow2 As Integer
myrow1 = 2
myrow2 = 25
Range("G2").Select
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=AVERAGE(R " & myrow1 & " C3:R " & myrow2 & " C3)"
myrow1 = myrow1 + 24
myrow2 = myrow2 + 24

So I am hoping the first ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 gets read as =Average(C2:C25)

However I just get Run-time error '1004' Method 'FormulaR1C1' of object 'Range' failed.

Ignore Blank Cells Zeros And Error Cells From MIN Function?

Oct 24, 2013

I have a spreadsheet for which I have to set up a formula to get the minimum value from a range of cells, but that range can include blank cells, errors (#DIV/0) and zeros, all of which I want to be ignored. I can work out how to ignore EITHER the zeros

(=MIN(IF(C10:G100,C10:G10)),

or the error cells

(=MIN(IF(ISNUMBER(C9:G9),C9:G9)),

How to exclude both. If I try to combine both of these exclusion criteria it doesn't work and I end up with the answer #DIV/0, which is one of the values I want it to ignore.

Correct Syntax For Function To Find Average Based On Background Color Of Cells In Range

May 20, 2014

I'm working on a workbook that will track staffing patterns.

The workbook has three worksheets: Sheet1 "RCS", Sheet2 "HCT' and Sheet3 "Hidden". I've attached the workbook to this thread. The password for the form is "j".

On Sheet3 "Hidden" I have two tables that are set up to collect the SUM of columns on Sheets1 "RCS" and Sheet2 "HCT". I'm finding the SUM of each range by way of the background color. I've set up the following formulas and when the "data collection tables" are in the same worksheets as the original information, the formula's work perfectly:

The following functions are pulling data from Sheet1 "RCS" and placing them into a table in Sheet2 "Hidden"

[Code] ........

The following functions are pulling data from Sheet1 "RCS" and placing them into a table in Sheet2 "Hidden"

[Code] .......

I have two more functions that aren't working due to the fact that the source values are percentages and NOT plain numbers. The above functions work great for SUM but not for percentages. EXAMPLE--Let's say, 3 sub percentages it gives me the SUM of the 3 percentages (i.e. 85% + 100% + 100% = 285% instead of giving me 95%.

[Code] ........

How might I use the following functions to find the average of the source fields instead of the SUM?

Using SUMIF Function To Ignore Error Cells

Feb 27, 2006

I need to get a subtotal of a range (eg: A1:A30), however some cells in this range have #N/A errors due to particular formulas they contain. I could go into these cells and add a formula which 'catches' these errors, but there are far too many given my current time constraints.

Is there any way to use SUMIF to add the cells which do not contain errors and skip the ones that do? (ie: SUMIF($A$1:$A$30,""&"Error Parameter")).

E10 needs to show the average of the numbers that are in E11 through E24, and just ignore the errors.

Using A Cell Row Reference To Average?

Jun 6, 2013

I am trying to average two cell references for the row component. I am unsure if INDIRECT is the correct function?

In cell A1 it displays the row number of the start of the range to average eg "49". Then in cell A2 it displays the row number of the end of the range eg. "107".

I need a way to change the row references in cell A1 and A2 easily and to change all subsequent formula.

So if I want to average the Column C, what would the formula be for the cell to display the result =average(C49:C107) but incorporating the references in A1 and A2?

I have 5 columns set up: A,B,C,D,E
D is the sum of A and B
E is the sum of A,B,and C

As I add in a new column to the right of C (call it C2), I need D (which has shifted over one) to sum A,B, and C.

I also need E (which has also shifted over one) to sum A,B,C, and C2.

Essentially I need a function in a cell that will be able to reference two cells to the left even as more cells are added.

AVERAGE Formula Getting #VALUE! Error

Apr 30, 2008

I am trying to do an average of quartely results (2008 results) and because certain quarters can have no data present then my quarter shows 0%. But if i do a simple average of all Qs then the 0% affects my overall year to date. I need to keep the 0% because it may be a legit value. So i've devised a way to is if we actually have something in the cell (using isblank). So i test with isblank and if something is present then i use the Quartely value. It could be 50% or it can be 0%.

I would like to incorporate the snapshot but i can't because i do not have access to uploading a picture. If any of you wish i could email the pictures. When i test out my formula in different cells its works but when i combine them all together i get #VALUE! error.

In the example the error comes from the Q3 which test out and should give "" but when its added to the formula i gert #VALUE!. Shouldn't the average function disregard "" cells?

My formula is:
=average((if(and(isblank(F33),isblank(J33),isblank(N33))," ",R33)),(if(and(isblank(T33),isblank(X33),isblank(AB33)),"",AF33)),(if(and(isblank(AH33),isblank(AL33),isblank(AP33)),"",AT33)),(if(and(isblank(AV33),isblank(AZ33),isblank(BD33)),"",BH33)))

Maybe my logic is flawed or there is a better way to do it. Either way i would like your opinion on it.
