I have a spreadsheet with (to keep it simple) with three fields: Name, Date, Complete.
When the spreadsheet opens I'd like a macro to run to check each row of data, and if the Date is before or on today's date and the Complete field is empty, a message box should appear to alert the user with the Name and row number.
I am trying to check for the existence of a record in an access table and do one of the following:
1. If the record exists, overwrite it in the table. 2. If the record doesn't exist, add it to the table.
I'm having real difficulty with the VBA code to check an Access table for the existence of a specific record, and then overwrite. I can do it with dates, but I'm looking for a unique record ID "300112_1_II" and it's trowing up a "Type mismatch" error.
For testing purposes, I'm using the following parameters:
Field = Field_1 Table = TBL_1 Record ID = Test_Record
Basically, I want to check Field_1 for the existence of Test_Record and then either edit the other fields in the record or add a new record, depending upon what it finds.
I would like to create a macro in my personal macro workbook that will uncheck specific "check boxes". I tried recording this process, but had no luck. Is there a trick to recording actions performed on objects, or some other trick to make this work that I'm not aware of?
I have two workbooks. One is a no-nonsense form interface that my bosses will use to enter safety information. I'll call this workbook "Form". This file is stored locally on each of their computers. The other workbook is stored on a common drive. I'll call it "Master".
When my bosses fill out the Form and click "Submit", the Master file is opened, and certain cells are populated based on information entered in the Form. This is the code I am using to make this happen:
I did a macro on my mac to transfer a sheet from one workbook to another worbook. It works very well when the destination workbook is open. Therefore I wanted to add some piece of code to check if the destination workbook is open. If not then I wanted the macro to open it before tranfering the sheet. Here is the code I´m using for tranfering the sheet
Sub Transfer_Sluttet() If ActiveSheet.Index <> Sheets.Count Then Application.DisplayAlerts = False Set ws = ActiveSheet Sheets(ws.Index + 1).Delete ws.Move Before:=Workbooks("Sluttet.xls").Sheets("sheet2") 'Moves active sheet to beginning of named workbook. 'Replace Test.xls with the full name of the target workbook you want. Application.DisplayAlerts = True End If End Sub
This is the type of macro I useually use on my pc to check if a workbook is open and if not then open it
If IsWorkbookOpened("Filename.xls", "C:Documents and ..................
I want to maintain a history of exam results held on different dates
For this purpose I created a file with three sheets named Inputs, Working & result history. Description of all sheet is as follows :
“Inputs” Used as main Input file to feed marks for each subject on certain exam date. “Working” Linked with sheet inputs and perform calculations ( total marks, % etc) “Result History” Date wise history of exam results based on sheet (working).
1. Score entered for different subjects in Sheet “Inputs” for a particular exam date. 2. Obtained marks are totaled and score % calculated based on scores entered in sheet inputs. 3. Date wise history of exam results recorded based on working sheet.
To transfer/copy/paste results from “Working” sheet to “Result history” sheet I recorded a macro which is linked with a button. This macro copy record from working sheet and paste it as value to result history sheet.
Now I need modification in this macro/or any other solution so that: when I entered scores for next examination date in “inputs” sheet all calculations done as mentioned above in step 2 (for earlier exam date) & when I click the button again it post the result details to “result history” sheet in the row next to first record. In this way a history of results for different examination dates can be maintained.
I would like to write a Sub that will see if a workbook is open and if it is not then open it. I know how to have a macro automatically open a workbook, but I run into problems when the macro runs and tries to open an already opened workbook.
I am creating a tracker to record, incoming, latest date of reply needed and actual date of reply. So I have column A= received, Column B = need to reply by, Column C = replied on. What I want in A is today’s date which is easy enough with ctrl+; is there a way of having it set that as soon as the cell is clicked on that date is activated and until then it remains empty?
What I have in B is A# + 20 this adds 20 days to the date entered in column A, again is there any way to have it set that this automatically activates when cells in column A are active and not until then, as if I enter that code in the cell and nothing is showing in cell A it gives a date of the 20/01/2008.
In C I have tried a couple of codes and they have not worked so what I would like is a code that when A and B are active it generates a countdown for days left to reply and if this countdown reaches zero then the whole line is flagged up in red as late. Lastly, is there a code that I can use that will automatically correspond with the A, B or C columns and match them with the same number cell in the other columns, sorry this isn’t so easy to explain but what I have to do at the moment is type in B is =A1+20 , A2+20, A3+20 and so on rather than just typing in A……+20 for column B to know it needs to associate itself with the same number cell in column A regardless what number it is.
I want to create a function that will check 2 user input dates (and anything in between) to see if it lies in a defined tax year. I will define the tax year in Cells A1: 6/4/2009 and A2: 5/4/2010 and ask the user to input dates in Cells B1 and B2 to check if any of these dates (or anything in between) falls between A1 and A2.
For example: Tax Year is 6th April 2009 - 5th April 2010, Cell A1 is 6/4/2009 and A2 is 5/4/2010. User inputs 2nd March 2009 in Cell B1 and 10th May 2009 in B2. Because the 10th May falls in the tax year the output should be "True". I can Excel to check one user defined number (Cell B1) using this =IF(AND (B1>=A1,B1<=A2),"Yes","No") but not sure which route to take to check 2 numbers B1 & B2 and anything in between.
I want to create something like this: macro checking if file aaa.csv isn't open, if it is macro should stop and show message box "Close aaa.csv", and if file isn't open it should continue to work.
The file aaa.csv is stored in the same folder as workbook with my macro.
I need VBA code to check if two spreadsheets are open at the same time. One is named OMD.xls and the other Report.xls
If they are not, then I need the current sub-routine to stop and exit, followed by a message box that informs the user to open the two spreadsheets at the same time.
know a simple code that I can use in Excel VBA to simply check if Microsoft Word is open or not? I'm not worried about checking for a specific document, but just if the application is running or not.
I have to files and a macro which copies data from one file to the other. The code goes as follows:
Sub test()
Range("A2").Activate
ActiveCell.Copy
ChDir "D:" Workbooks.Open Filename:="D: est2.xls"
Range("B1").Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _ :=False, Transpose:=False End Sub
Everything is ok as long as the second file (test2) - the one data is copied to, is closed the moment the macro starts acting. The problem is: when test2.xls was opened before the macro was activated a window pops up saying that all unsaved data in test2.xls would be lost.
The best thing to do is to write a piece of code stating that : if the target file is closed then the macro should open it and do its stuff, but if the target file is already opened than the macro should simply switch to the already opened workbook without trying to reopen it. All I need is a piece of code regulating that
Y have files that are stored as .xla files because they are standalone applications that just contain the code.
Y need to test if one .xla file is open and if so close it, so i'am able to open another one. Otherwise the APP withevents from both APP get all mixed up.
I'am actually doing it from vb.net 2005 and i 'am using latebinding. But the code would be similar y guess.
I have a small group of excel files that I've tried to code to update a master file. I have borrowed code snippets and adapted the rest (still trying to learn). My appologies to those I borrowed from! I would give you full credit if I could remember who did what. Anyway, The files are on a network share folder and everything works perfectly for me, but when one of the people who this was disigned for tries to update it always says "File already open, please try again later." This message is built in to the code.
All the files are in the same shared folder (to make it easier for me) along with the master file.
Here is the code:
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click() Const strMaster As String = "PMT_Master.xls" Dim wbMaster As Workbook Dim srcrng As Range Dim destrng As Range
how to check if a workbook is open or not, and then do something on the resualt. What I would like to know is, how can I make the program check if the file is open on another on the server where others can access it? I'm reading this back, not sure im explaining it right... If i have a macro that checks if a file is open, is it checking if its open on just my PC, or is it checking if its open else where?
This is the function Roy did for me: [code].........
I have written a VBA code to make a pivot table from data in another workbook,A, and transfer it to workbook B. I however dont want to restrict this code to workbook A only. This is because usually workbook A will have varying names everytime it is sent. I want to be able to get data from any other workbook that is open at the same time as work book B. What code can I use to select/activate another unspecified open workbook and get data from there?
I have some code setup to create hyperlinks to all the excel files relevant to the current project a user is working on - it details when each file was last modified so it's possible to see how the project is progressing - and whether or not they need to review any changes.
I could do with including a flag detailing if someone else currently has the file open (prior to them attempting to open the file - as they're more than likely to open as read only and end up saving under a new filename - which I don't want happening) - as many of the projects are shared (one user might be in Edinburgh, the other in London for Example). It would be handy to display the user's excel User Name (as I've persuaded everyone to update this). I've added messageboxes identifying Last modified by user x , dd/mm/yyyy hr:min to auto_open's in the past, but am experiencing brain-freeze today
Private Sub Workbook_Open() Dim vFileName As String Dim sLastSaveTime As String Dim sLastAuthor As String vFileName = ThisWorkbook.Name Application.Volatile sLastSaveTime = _ ThisWorkbook.BuiltinDocumentProperties("Last Save Time") Application.Volatile sLastAuthor = _ ThisWorkbook.BuiltinDocumentProperties("Last Author")................
I have a form in Access with a button that opens an Excel file. I think I've seen vba code to tell if a specific Excel file is open already. What I'm looking for is a way to tell if an Excel file is already open when you don't know the filename of the Excel file. Is that possible? Or at the very least is there a way to be able to tell if Excel is already open?
I am looking to check if its open, if it is, then copy the row, if not, then close it.
I am still new to vb, so learning as I go, but looked at many other posts, and there are so many ways i have seen to open one, I'm not sure which is the best, and none that I have seen show me if they check if its open.
My company used Excel with VBA as a sales tool. We recently updated to new application all together. The sales force, being familiar with Excel and most of them finding it much easier is still giving old pricing quotes based on some of the built in product forms and calculating tools from the Excel files. I want them to still be able to view the excel files they made in order to see old customer data and projects they built but I needed to disable all the features so they can’t save as just build another quote using the tool
I've locked down a copy of the tool how I want it locked down but now I need to figure out a way that anytime excel is opened by anyone in the domain; I need to check if certain criteria exists on that workbook (Sheet1. Name = “xxx” And Sheet21.Name = “zzz”) etc. f it meets the criteria I need to import my revised modules (module1 and module3) and form (frmsplash) over the existing copies of the modules and form. If not I need to allow the intended workbook to open as intended. They employees initially got the document by downloading it under the same name, but have since saved the document as many other names.
I seek advice on using the value of NOW() as a record ID in an address book program. Question #1: Do Excel developers often use a record ID? Question #2: What record ID schemes are fequently employed besides date/time? I have decided to create an Excel address book as an exercise to increase my knowledge of VBA, and also as a useful application for work.
I realize that a record ID is not essential in Excel in the way that it is essential in Access, but I feel the need to have some unique ID associated with each address, so that I may have different worksheets, with data related to a given Contact, sort and manipulate it, if necessary, but have the record ID as a way to restore the relationship of rows to a given Contact, and also, as a handy way to examine the data in the date/time sequence in which it was entered. I have experimented with the following code, to assure myself that I can access the number returned by the NOW() function, manipulate it as a string, and format in various ways if necessary.
Dim n As Double n = Now() sn = Str(n) p = InStr(sn, ".") first = Left(sn, (p - 1)) l = Len(sn) d = l - p S = Mid(sn, (p + 1), d)....................
I have an application that requires users to download a file from a location that is then imported at their execution into the application. I've done my best to counsel users to download the file to their desktop (for ease of locating) and to stick with a standard filename so that there are no errors. Some of these people just don't take direction well, will save the file wherever, or save the name inappropratly, or worse, open up multiple copies of the same file corrupting the name: ie: FileName.xls, FileName.xls(1), FileName1.
