Compare Multiple Columns - Flag Duplicates?
Nov 14, 2013
Columns A, B, and C have data (first name, last name, state) - 125k rows. Columns F, G, and H have data (first name, last name, state) - 5k rows. Some of these individuals are bound to appear on both lists, and I need to know which ones are indeed on both lists. So in other words, let's say I've got "John" "Doe" "TX" in cells F1, G1, and H1, respectively. I want to search through columns A, B, and C to find out if there are any instances in those columns of "John" "Doe" "TX" in the same row.
I'm thinking there will be multiple VLOOKUP formulas involved, but I could be way off.

sorting duplicate e-mails across three columns in an Excel spreadsheet.
Precisely, I have three mailing lists (Column A, B, and C) that I would like to sort.
I would like to know what e-mail addresses appear in more than one Column (Mailing List), and I would like to highlight/flag them somehow.
I have attached an example spreadhseet that contains fake e-mail addresses for test purposes. As you can see, some e-mail addresses are duplicated or in triplicate across the 3 Columns. In other cases, an e-mail address may be unique to a specific Column.
In my real spreadsheet, I have approximately 3,500 rows and 3 columns.

How do I compare 2 columns and then flag where there is duplication? I want to compare Column B against column C and then flag everywhere there is a match. In this case, Column B may have several thousands of entries (inclusive off all entries found in Column C) and I want to have Excel look through the thousands of entries in Column B and then just place an "x" where there was a match to the values found In Column C. For example:
Excel 2003ABC1Duplicate?MarchApril27899421458347889122254x21458112575445576332147x122258x11257921463Sheet1

what I'm after is a macro to check the contents of Column 'A' against column 'B' and display any duplicates in Columns 'C' & 'D'.
N.B. The headings of Columns C & D are :-
C = Value Found in Column A
D = Value Found in Column B
Any duplicate entries logged in columns C & D should be listed in C2,C3,C4....C20 and D2,D3,D4......D20 etc (in effect creating two new lists)

I have column A that is 1,500 records.
I have column B with 40,000 records.
Among the 40,000 records in column B, duplicates of ALL 1,500 records from column A exist.
My question is: How do I find WHERE the 1,500 dupes are and how can I delete JUST those records?

I am using a CountIf formula to flag duplicate entries in a column of data, in a Column I have "=COUNTIF(P:P,P1)" It returns a number equal to the number of repeats of the data in call "P1". I then sort by that column to isolate all rows which have duplicates in Column "P". The cell has "1" if there are no repeats, "2" if there is one repeat, "3" if there are two repeats, etc. What I would like is a formula which would put a "1" in the cell the first time it sees data, then something else when it sees repeats. That way when I sort, ALL the repeats will be together and can be deleted. Is that possible?

I have an Excel spreadsheet with 3 columns (A, B, and C) and 600 rows. Each cell in A and B contains a 6-diget number. Column C is empty.
I want to determine whether the number in A1, A2, ….A600 appears anywhere in column B. If A(n) does appear in column B then I want to enter a symbol (say a Y) in C(n). If A(n) does not appear in column B then I want to enter a different symbol (say N) in C(n).
What is the formula I enter (and where) that will do that?

I am trying to set up a spreadsheet to track certification expiration dates and things of that nature at my volunteer fire department. At my career job, we use specialty software like Firehouse, but that is way too expensive so I must settle for Excel..or maybe Access.
Basically, I need a formula that will look at todays date and compare it to the date in a given cell and then somehow differentiate thise which are expiring at a given intercal.
For example, if someones EMT was expiring in 6 months it would turn yellow, then at 3 months turn blue, then red at 1 month then black if it expires.
It don't necessarily have to be just like that, just some way to differentiate depending on the how close to expiration it is.

I am currently trying to work out what the best way would be to search between two sheets and find out where the differences are. IO have sheet 1 and 2 which both have account numbers and details on. I searching off the first column on both sheets and trying to identify which records exist on sheet 1 but not on sheet 2. The code I have so far is
Sub check()
data_sheet = "Sheet1"
target_sheet = "sheet2"
rowcn = 2
Do
If Sheets(data_sheet). Cells(rowcn, 1) <> Sheets(target_sheet).Cells(rowcn, 1) Then
Rows(rowcn).Select
Selection.Font.ColorIndex = 3
End If
rowcn = rowcn + 1
Loop While Sheets(data_sheet).Cells(rowcn, 1) > 0
End Sub
This currently works 50%. Only problem is that this code is not independant to each list, it simply looks at the same cell reference on both sheets and check whether the value is there. It doesnt actually go down the whole list and checks whether it is there.

I'm running a football competition for my business where customers are required to guess World Cup football scores via Facebook. I'm storing all their entries in a spreadsheet.
In the spreadsheet column a is their name, b is the match (e.g. England v Italy), c is the home tame (England), d is the score (1-1), e is the away team (Italy)
Across from, that I have the actual fixtures taking place at the World Cup. So column I is the date, K is the home team (England), L is the actual score (2-0) and M is the away team (Italy)
What I need is a formula that when I enter the result on a game into the right set of columns (Columns I:M) it will highlight those Columns (Columns C:E) that have entered that correct score.
It needs to compare 3 columns and not just one because for example if it highlights the score (1:1 for example) it could be highlighting someone who picked Spain v Holland 1:1 where the correct result would be someone who picked England v Italy 1:1.

I have searched the many forum solutions for duplicates however the ones I found relate to a single column. However what I would like to be able to do is starting from row 6 is to remove duplicates of multiples columns of a single worksheet, namely columns M, O, P, Q and R. Note some cells in each column are blank.
To clarify - it would firstly check for duplicates in column M, keeping just one of the rows of the duplicated value and removing entiely the row/rows of where the duplications appeared. Then go through each of the other four columns. of the worksheet doing the same for each of the other four columns.
Then after the duplicates are removed from all five columns provide a tally at the bottom of the worksheet of how many times a value now appears in the cells of each of repective columns.

My spreadsheet has multiple "sessions" by date and each has three columns: a name, their organization, and a column where we want to display an "R" if they are a repeat participant. Each new session is entered to the right of the last. The names are in every third column. Like so:
name company R
name company
name company
name company R
Is it possible to search through the whole document to find repeating names, and then display an "R" in every third column if they are a repeat participant?

I can find lots of ways to compare two lists with single columns, but I need a very basic guide to comparing multiple ones across two sets of data and then highlighting or extracting the unique records. I would prefer to keep the data in the existing columns for later sorting and other purposes.
I currently have the two datasets as two separate worksheets in an Excel 2003 file. The two datasets consist of the same three columns containing strings of text, but there is quite a difference in the number of rows. Dataset One is c. 3550 records, Dataset 2 is c. 1600. There are no duplicate records within each dataset, but there are duplications across the datasets and the records are in a different order, so it's not a matter of comparing Row 1 to Row 1 and so on. The data look a bit like this (semi-colons to show columns):
DATASET 1
Group;Family;Name
PM;Smith;Mary Anne
PM;Jones;Fred Henry
PD;Wilson;Peter John
PG;Green;William Laurence
...............

I would like to create an excel formula that will easily compare multiple columns to each other. For example
C1 C2 C3 C4
-- -- -- --
A A B A
I want to create a formula which will compare these 4 columns to make sure they are all the same. If they are all the same, then TRUE else FALSE. I could compare C1 to C2,C3&C4, then C2 to C3&C4, then C3 to C4 but I am thinking there must be an easier way to do this.

I am trying to tell the spreadsheet that if column G *and* column V are both identical to another row's column G and V, then the entire row is a duplicate and to highlight and delete it. I also want to record a macro of this process to apply to all spreadsheets.
Here are the tutorials I am looking at, but whatever I am doing is not working the way it is working for them.
Conditional Formatting, find duplicates with multiple columns [URL]...
I am highlighting cell A2, and under Conditional Formatting, I select "Formula Is" =SUM(COUNTIF($G:$G,G2),COUNTIF($V:$V,G2))>1
Then I select the format as light orange text, but it is only highlighting A2....
That is as far as I have gotten, and I still do not know how to go about deleting the duplicate entries. I have also read there are issues with recording a macro when trying to find duplicates using more than one column in the formula, but I have not gotten that far so I can't test it.
As is likely evident in my formula and process, I am not very experienced with Excel.

This is a very SMALL sample of the data I need to sort through. We have been using filters but the data is growning and becoming far too time consuming using the filter method.
The output I am looking to achieve is something like this, (any format is fine; whether in rows or columns)
SVR1
1.99.99.254
(2) CAT I (display how many CAT I for SVR1)
CAT I: 2011-B-44
CAT I: ST-5546
(2) CAT II (display how many CAT II for SVR1)
CAT II: 2011-B-52
CAT II: 2011-A-21
SVR2
2.5.2.333
(1) CAT I
CAT I: 2012-E-55
(1) CAT II
CAT II: 2011-A-21
COLUMN A, varies from SVR1-SVR1400 (cointains duplicates)
COLUMN B, IP matches SVR name (contains duplicates)
COLUMN C, will be either CAT I, CAT II, CATIII
COLUMN D, will contain duplicates
I have some history of using formulas and nested formulas but this one is really throwing me for a loop. It feels like Inception to me and I'm not really sure where to start!
A

D

I have many small spreadsheets of data organised into 4 columns and anything upto 250 rows. I want to be able to test if all the cells along each row have the same data in each of the 4 cells, so 4 occurences of the same thing. Each row of data will be different. (I'm not intertested in matching the data going down the column).
However, I won't know with each spreadsheet what is the exact data I will be looking for - if all 4 cells don't have the same data, that is fine as this will then require my manual attention which is the purpose of my project.
I just want to avoid having to check through lots of rows of data where all the data does already match.
The data will usually be text but it can be IP addresses and numbers too. I need a formula or set of operators to use for is exercise.

I have a spreadsheet with three years worth of data for a property I manage. Each column has cost data for the year and the specific department/cost for that year as the row value.
I have a column between the years that calculates the percent of gross revenue for the specific department/cost.
I would like to find (or create) a formula that will compare the percentage (or specific cost) for the three years within the specific row and if the increase year over year over year exceeds a trigger value it returns something (check me out/true/false) whatever.
The cost items for the property are in the hundreds so I'm trying to come up with a way to quickly see what specific cost items are going up (or down) more rapidly then what would be considered normal.

I'm glad founding this great forum. I have learned a lot in the last few months.
Now I need to do a task and can't find online a tutorial for this. Here is what I need:
File A contains 23 columns with info for 300 products (rows). File B contains same columns for 280 out of the 300 products from file A, plus 40 new products.
I need to flag in file A the 20 products that are not in the file B, plus flag in file B the 40 products that are not in the file A.
The structure, columns, etc are the same for both files.

I receive a daily spreadsheet which contains (amongst other information) a column of postcodes. I'd like to run a macro which compares these postcodes with a list of other postcodes, and then to colour highlight each instance of that post code in the daily spreadhseet.
I have been able to find and modify a macro but that searches for one post code at a time and then adds a comments box to the cell.
Instead of copying that piece of code and editing it for the several hundred post codes I need to "look up" against, I'd like to know how to create a list of post codes in the macro, so that the macro searches the first post code in the lookup list, finds and highlights each cell instance, then moves onto the next post code in the lookup list, until the end of the lookup list. I would like this as the editing of the lookup list would be much easier than editing paragraphs of code.

The Comparison list:
Sheet2, Column C will have duplicates of some of Sheet1, Column C numbers.
(Sheet2, Column C will have the numbers but other columns will have different
data than Sheet1 and may have a few hundred entries or less)
I need a macro that will that will compare the two sheets for duplicates based on
Column C and then write the entire row of Sheet1 with the duplicate number to a new Sheet3.
