Program Not Picking Up Cell Value

May 3, 2007

I have a simple program that picks up an ID on sheet1, finds that ID on sheet2, picks up the information in one cell from sheet2, and brings that information back to sheet1.

The program works fine until for all IDs above row 570. After row 569 something strang happens. The programs is still able to find the ID but when it tries to pick up the one cell value it is saying it is blank yet you can physically see the data is present.

In all my years of VBA programming I have never encountered anything like this. Especially, where things work fine on half the worksheet and not on the other.

I am posting the code below, but I don't actually believe it is in the code. I cannot post the workbook because of the information it contains...

Excel 2007 :: Conditionally Format Cell To Have The Fill Color Of Different Cell

May 25, 2011

I have a spread sheet and I want to conditionally format rows to be a certain color. That part I'm fine with. But I don't want them to be a set color. I have a "key" of different colored cells that I want to be the fill colors of the formatting. The ultimate goal is that for example the key looked like this

red
blue
yellow
green

then the rows I had would be formatted as red, blue, yellow, and green. But if you were to go into the key and change the first cell from red to purple, then the rows would become formatted as purple, blue, yellow, and green. Obviously I can copy formating by hand using the format painter, but I want it to update automatically.

Conditionally Format Cell Using Absolute Values And Relative Cell References?

Mar 25, 2013

Below is my code which isn't formatting the cells it's suppossed to. It looks like it isn't doing anything. I think the issue might be with the highlighted section of my code, but when I go to "Manage" my rules for conditional formatting, excel references the appropriate cell under the "Applies to" section. I am using relative cell references for for the majority of the rest of the code and this section follows a section that selects the correct cell for this conditional format.

Code:
Selection.FormatConditions.Add Type:=xlExpression, Formula1:="=""ABS()>.005"""
Selection.FormatConditions(Selection.FormatConditions.Count).SetFirstPriority[code].....

Copy Or Link Formatting From Conditionally Formatted Cell To Another Cell?

Aug 12, 2014

I have a column who's content is determined via about 6 nested if statements from data on that row. That cell is then conditionally formatted to a certain color based on the text that is ultimately printed from the nested ifs (simply an extra visual legend for the text). All of this contributing info and about 1000 lines items make a very large and difficult to print page. What I am trying to do is a make a summary sheet that simply takes the index number of these 1000 rows and copies or links the conditional formatting of the mentioned cell onto this number on another sheet. I have already linked this status cell and put it adjacent to the index number which works well in that with two columns I can show the index and status but if I could combine the color of the status cell onto the index cell, it would be even better. I am pretty sure another conditional format for this summary sheet would not be possible or be extremely complex since the contents of the index cell I am conditionally formatting have no bearing on the conditions for the format. Was hoping there is some VBA magic that could simply mimic the conditional formatting from one cell and put it on another.

If A1 is Less than .81, AND if B1 is Adult, then C1 is First Class Mail

Conditionally Collect Data In One Cell?

Nov 13, 2008

I'm trying to make a spreadsheet that looks up values for a number of individuals and if they meet certain criteria they are collected in a box.

It is for a class of children's test results. I would like to be able to write the results each child got across the page (names at side, headings across top). If a child gets, say, level 2a in his test, his name appears in a cell elsewhere. I can do this with an 'IF' statement... Thing is I want to collect all the children who got that level in the other cell. The cell might end up with 10 or 12 names in it as a result of their scores being looked up. I would have cells for all of the levels, so the children can be automatically grouped together by attainment.

Conditionally Format A Cell That Already Contains A Formula?

Nov 14, 2009

I wish to compare 2 sets of data in 2 cells and in the third cell i wish to both display the difference and format in a colour depending on the outcome of the difference. Is this possible? or is there another solution?

e.g cell A1 is 21
cell B1 is 26
cell C1 is the difference and if the difference is greater than say 2 then it would colour red if equal to 1 then yellow and if less than 1 as in 0 -1 etc it would colour green. I have been very successfully using conditional formatting to colour a cell that has the data inputted but cant now do it for the formula cell. The context is pupil progress but that i guess is irrelevant really.

Basically I want the first cell to turn yellow if dates in certain cells are within 90 days of today, and turn red if within 30 days of today.......

Clearing Cell Contents If Conditionally Formatted

May 3, 2009

This is my first use of the forum as I only joined yesterday after a recommendation from another colleague.

I am attempting to write a macro to clear the contents of cells in a range that have conditional formatting. Below is the formula I have used...

Sub clr()
Dim r As Range
For Each r In Range("09:050")
If InStr(r.Interior.ColorIndex, "40") Then r.ClearContents
Next r
End Sub

While the formula runs without error, it does not clear the contents, although I read on another thread on this forum that you cannot clear contents of cells that are conditionally formatted.

Alternatively, if there is a more efficient way to clear cell contents (without using a formula in the cell itself),

Conditionally Lock Row Based On One Cell's Contents

Feb 6, 2008

I'm trying to figure out how to lock a range of cells (all in a row) when some puts a specific character in one of the cells. I have a sheet where I want people to enter data. Once they put a 'C' in the last column to indicate that the entry is complete, the whole row should be locked so they can't change any of the cells for that entry. There are some good pointers already on the forum to help me get the basics:

Conditional Cell Lock Unlock
http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66397

However, all of these point to specific cells rather than a range of cells that can be located close to the target of the change.

Count Cell Colour On Conditionally Formatted Cells?

Aug 5, 2014

spread sheet that I need to do for work. Unfortunately I do not have excel on my home computer to be able to attach a spread sheet

The spreadsheet has one column (A) with a list of questions. The column next to this (B) has either a red or yellow cell in each row (a red cell would be a high risk to the business if the answer to the question in that row was no, and a yellow cell indicates a moderate risk to the business in the answer to the question in the row was no).

The third column (C) is conditionally formatted so if a 'y' was placed in any of the cells they would turn green. If 'n' is placed in any of the cells the cell would change to either red or yellow (this would depend on what the colour was in column B).

I need to know a formula to count cells by colour. So the number of red, yellow and green cells in column C would be counted automatically into a totals box for each colour at the bottom of the spreadsheet. I have tried some online suggestions but couldn't get these to work for cells that had been conditionally formatted. I'm not the most experienced person with spreadsheets (this time last week I couldn't add two cells together)

The final thing I need from the spreadsheet (and I'm not even sure if this is possible) is for a total box to be colour co-ordinated based on the number of red, yellow and green cells in column C. I would need the total box to be green if all column c is green, yellow if three or less cells in column C are yellow and red if any of the cells in column C are red or there are more than 3 yellow cells in column C.

Conditionally Change Number Format Based On Another Cell's Value

Dec 1, 2009

Format the number in Column AL to '[hh]:mm' when Column C's value is ="P/T", otherwise format to 'General'

Column C's value is referenced from another sheet in the same workbook via a VLOOKUP function.

Column AL's value is based on an IF formula which goes like this:
=IF($C4="F/T",SUM($AJ4)+($AK4/2),SUM($D4:$AH4))

Basically the above formula asks if Column C's value is F/T then count (because if F/T then the corresponding values in that row are whole numbers). If not, then SUM (because if P/T the corresponding values in that row are set to [hh]:mm format).

I have another sheet in the same workbook which has code (quoted below) which does something similar but I don't understand it enough to get it doing what I want for the sheet in question.

Conditionally Show / Hide Combobox Based On Cell Value

Jun 5, 2013

I'm quite new to VBA, but I am attempting to get a Forms ComboBox to appear or disappear based on whether a certain cell (P7) reads YES or NO. P7 in turn updates in turn based on a user-selected value. As of now, the ComboBox only appears or disppears if I go back in and out of the formula I entered into P7. Basically, I want my ComboBox to dynamically update based on the value in P7. That may sound a little muddled, so here is my code for the ComboBox:

Code:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)

If Not Intersect(Target, Range("P7")) Is Nothing Then
If UCase(Target) = "YES" Then
Me.Shapes.Range("Drop Down 30").Visible = msoTrue
Else
Me.Shapes.Range("Drop Down 30").Visible = msoFalse
End If
End If

Conditionally Hiding / Unhiding Rows In One Worksheet By Referencing Cell In Different Worksheet

May 3, 2013

coding a VBA macro for one of my workbooks, in which I need to be able to hide/unhide various rows in one worksheet depending on the value of a cell in a worksheet elsewhere in the workbook. The rows start off hidden by default.

As a simplified example:

Worksheet1 has a cell that has option "Set 1," and "Set 2." Worksheet2 has two sets of rows (say, 20:30 and 40:50) that need to be hidden/unhidden depending on the cell in Worksheet 1. These are hidden to start with!

So if Worksheet1's target cell says "Set 1", then on Worksheet2, rows 20:30 would stay hidden and rows 40:50 would be revealed, and then if the target cell says "Set 2," then on Worksheet 2, rows 40:50 would then be hidden, but rows 20:30 would then be revealed.

I was thinking of using something like this:

Rows("20:30,40:50").EntireRow.Hidden = True
If Target.Address="'Worksheet1'!A1" Then
If Target.Value = "Set 1" Then
Rows("40:50").EntireRow.Hidden = False
Else
Rows("20:30").EntireRow.Hidden = False
End If
End If

I think this might work, but every time I try to run this I get various errors, like not referencing my target cell correctly.

Conditionally Format Each Group Of Rows And Each Column And Color The Cell In Each Column

Nov 27, 2009

I've a worksheet that is 3750 rows of cells from A to DT and contains only numbers with the exception of a header row. The rows are in groups, primarily 4 rows, although there are exceptions - these rows are separated by blank rows. Small example as follows.

I have been trying to conditionally format each group of rows and each column and color the cell in each column of four (or less) numbers in each group that represents the maximum number.
It was easy enough to come up with the conditional formatting BUT it will take forever to do this manually. I've been told to use a macro but I know nothing of programming. Has anyone seen or heard of a macro that might already be written to perform this onerous task.
