Conditionally Formatting Highest Valued Cell

Dec 22, 2005

I have 7 rows in the same column of type percentage. I'd like to turn
the text of the highest valued cell red. How exactly is that done with
contional formatting (vs. IF statements for each cell)?

Conditionally Format From Highest To Lowest With Tie Break?

Apr 22, 2013

I need to do conditional formatting based on the highest percentage (value) in each row.

[1st highest value (green coloring), 2nd highest (Orange color), 3rd highest (blue coloring), if it has the letters "NT" then (Red color)]

But to break the tie, if the value of the 1st column is equal to the value of the 2nd column, 1st will be considered as the highest value. If the value of the 2nd column is equal to the value of the 3rd column will be considered 2nd largest value.

Copy Or Link Formatting From Conditionally Formatted Cell To Another Cell?

Aug 12, 2014

I have a column who's content is determined via about 6 nested if statements from data on that row. That cell is then conditionally formatted to a certain color based on the text that is ultimately printed from the nested ifs (simply an extra visual legend for the text). All of this contributing info and about 1000 lines items make a very large and difficult to print page. What I am trying to do is a make a summary sheet that simply takes the index number of these 1000 rows and copies or links the conditional formatting of the mentioned cell onto this number on another sheet. I have already linked this status cell and put it adjacent to the index number which works well in that with two columns I can show the index and status but if I could combine the color of the status cell onto the index cell, it would be even better. I am pretty sure another conditional format for this summary sheet would not be possible or be extremely complex since the contents of the index cell I am conditionally formatting have no bearing on the conditions for the format. Was hoping there is some VBA magic that could simply mimic the conditional formatting from one cell and put it on another.

Macro To Split Multiple Valued Cell?

May 3, 2012

I have Column D containing multiple values that I need to split. The structure is:

Text Text (XYZ) 123 AB C
Text 456 C
Text Text (RST) 7 A CD EF
Text 22

I'd like is to split the cell using a macro rather than formulae so that the resulting cells can be filtered.

The output would be:

Text Text (XYZ)|123|AB|C
Text|456|C
Text Text (RST)|7|A|CD|EF
Text|22|

So the first split would need to be when the number is reached, the second split after the number and then subsequent splits each time a space is encountered (although there may not be any values after the number!).

Conditionally Formatting Dates

Dec 12, 2006

I have a workbook (attached) which has two sheets called “Team List” & “Masterfile Data Dump”.

TEAM LIST
This is the sheet that I want to populate when the data dump is a pasted into the sheet “Masterfile Data Dump”

MASTERFILE DATA DUMP
This sheet is where my data dump will be pasted to, columns A to Q and column R is a formula to work out the FTE

Calculation
The reason I want the list to auto populate is that it will change week on week and is a time consuming task keep updating it. I want to be able to type a Team Leaders Name into cell F2 and it populate the list of the agents in that persons team Cells F4:G18 (Name & Surname) along with there FTE (full time equivalent) in Cells I4:I18.

The problem I have is I have no idea how to calculate the FTE sum as the data dump can have one to five shift patterns (rows) for one agent (See my example on the “Master file Data Dump” Sheet of Joe Bloggs. /I have tried to use a VLOOKUP which I have used but this will only return the first value or first rows value of that agents name.

Conditionally Formatting Range Of Cells Based On Formula?

Jan 18, 2013

I had a list of people on sheet1 of my workbook, and on sheet 2 a table with a list of names and their department.

I started off by wanting to use VLOOKUP within the conditional formatting feature of Excel to find anyone who worked in "finance" in sheet 2. I could get this formula to work on the sheet but as soon as I put it into the conditional format feature it wouldn't work.

Trying to find a work around I added a column in sheet 1 where I inputted the VLOOKUP formula and caused it to display "1" if the person worked in finance. It looked like this:

A: Person's name
B: Value of 1 or 0

The idea was to hide column B and use conditional formatting to say "if column B2 = 1 colour column A2 blue". Now I could get this to work on a single row but couldn't make it work over a range, ie. "if cells A2:A150 have a 1 in the column next to them colour the relevent cell blue"

I feel I'm missing the obvious. I found quite a few answers online but non actually specified how to get the conditional formatting to recognise the relevent cell it should be looking at in a range.

1) How would I get conditional formatting working over a range

2) Whether it is possible to use VLOOKUP within the conditional formatting function of Excel.

Formatting The Highest Number In A Row

Jul 22, 2008

I have a few rows in an excel sheet and I want to highlight the highest number(s) in each row.

I've been playing around with conditional formatting, and using the formula:
=$C23=MAX($C$23:$C$55)
in the conditional formatting box and selecting a formatting type, I can automatically highlight the highest number in column C (row 23 to 55). However, this formula only seems to work when I'm selecting columns of data rather than rows. If I want to highlight the highest number in row 23, the formula I'm using is:
=$C23=MAX($C$23:$M$23)
Which I think should highlight the highest number From C23 to M23, but it doesn't - nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong?

Hide All Zero Valued Rows?

I'm trying to find a macro or conditional formatting rule that would automatically hide all rows where all cells from F to X columns in the row are '0', all I can see is how to hide it when zero appears in 1 or 2 cells only.

The spreadsheet has a drop down box, so each time when I select different item from a drop down list I wanted zeros to be hidden automatically.

VLOOKUP-lookup Value Has Been Both TRIMmed And VALUEd

Mar 14, 2007

The formula I'm using is: =VLOOKUP($B724,Sheet1!$A$2:$S$17120,6,FALSE)

The B column in the lookup value has been both TRIMmed and VALUEd. The column that would contain the matches in Sheet1 has also been TRIMmed and VALUEd. I've confirmed that if I manually search for my value in Sheet1 then I find the data I'm looking for, but I always get #NA when this is run.

I have successfully done other VLOOKUPs between different columns in these worksheets, but can't get this one working. Excel version is 2003 SP2 if that makes a difference.

Excel 2007 :: Conditionally Format Cell To Have The Fill Color Of Different Cell

May 25, 2011

I have a spread sheet and I want to conditionally format rows to be a certain color. That part I'm fine with. But I don't want them to be a set color. I have a "key" of different colored cells that I want to be the fill colors of the formatting. The ultimate goal is that for example the key looked like this

red
blue
yellow
green

then the rows I had would be formatted as red, blue, yellow, and green. But if you were to go into the key and change the first cell from red to purple, then the rows would become formatted as purple, blue, yellow, and green. Obviously I can copy formating by hand using the format painter, but I want it to update automatically.

Code:
Selection.FormatConditions.Add Type:=xlExpression, Formula1:="=""ABS()>.005"""

Conditionally Collect Data In One Cell?

Nov 13, 2008

I'm trying to make a spreadsheet that looks up values for a number of individuals and if they meet certain criteria they are collected in a box.

It is for a class of children's test results. I would like to be able to write the results each child got across the page (names at side, headings across top). If a child gets, say, level 2a in his test, his name appears in a cell elsewhere. I can do this with an 'IF' statement... Thing is I want to collect all the children who got that level in the other cell. The cell might end up with 10 or 12 names in it as a result of their scores being looked up. I would have cells for all of the levels, so the children can be automatically grouped together by attainment.

Conditionally Format A Cell That Already Contains A Formula?

Nov 14, 2009

I wish to compare 2 sets of data in 2 cells and in the third cell i wish to both display the difference and format in a colour depending on the outcome of the difference. Is this possible? or is there another solution?

e.g cell A1 is 21
cell B1 is 26
cell C1 is the difference and if the difference is greater than say 2 then it would colour red if equal to 1 then yellow and if less than 1 as in 0 -1 etc it would colour green. I have been very successfully using conditional formatting to colour a cell that has the data inputted but cant now do it for the formula cell. The context is pupil progress but that i guess is irrelevant really.

Basically I want the first cell to turn yellow if dates in certain cells are within 90 days of today, and turn red if within 30 days of today.......

Clearing Cell Contents If Conditionally Formatted

May 3, 2009

This is my first use of the forum as I only joined yesterday after a recommendation from another colleague.

I am attempting to write a macro to clear the contents of cells in a range that have conditional formatting. Below is the formula I have used...

Sub clr()
Dim r As Range
For Each r In Range("09:050")
If InStr(r.Interior.ColorIndex, "40") Then r.ClearContents
Next r
End Sub

While the formula runs without error, it does not clear the contents, although I read on another thread on this forum that you cannot clear contents of cells that are conditionally formatted.

Alternatively, if there is a more efficient way to clear cell contents (without using a formula in the cell itself),

Conditionally Lock Row Based On One Cell's Contents

Once they put a 'C' in the last column to indicate that the entry is complete, the whole row should be locked so they can't change any of the cells for that entry. Count Cell Colour On Conditionally Formatted Cells?

Aug 5, 2014

spread sheet that I need to do for work. Unfortunately I do not have excel on my home computer to be able to attach a spread sheet

The spreadsheet has one column (A) with a list of questions. The column next to this (B) has either a red or yellow cell in each row (a red cell would be a high risk to the business if the answer to the question in that row was no, and a yellow cell indicates a moderate risk to the business in the answer to the question in the row was no).

The third column (C) is conditionally formatted so if a 'y' was placed in any of the cells they would turn green. If 'n' is placed in any of the cells the cell would change to either red or yellow (this would depend on what the colour was in column B).

I need to know a formula to count cells by colour. So the number of red, yellow and green cells in column C would be counted automatically into a totals box for each colour at the bottom of the spreadsheet. I have tried some online suggestions but couldn't get these to work for cells that had been conditionally formatted. I'm not the most experienced person with spreadsheets (this time last week I couldn't add two cells together)

The final thing I need from the spreadsheet (and I'm not even sure if this is possible) is for a total box to be colour co-ordinated based on the number of red, yellow and green cells in column C. I would need the total box to be green if all column c is green, yellow if three or less cells in column C are yellow and red if any of the cells in column C are red or there are more than 3 yellow cells in column C.

Conditionally Change Number Format Based On Another Cell's Value

Dec 1, 2009

Format the number in Column AL to '[hh]:mm' when Column C's value is ="P/T", otherwise format to 'General'

Column C's value is referenced from another sheet in the same workbook via a VLOOKUP function.

Column AL's value is based on an IF formula which goes like this:
=IF($C4="F/T",SUM($AJ4)+($AK4/2),SUM($D4:$AH4))

Basically the above formula asks if Column C's value is F/T then count (because if F/T then the corresponding values in that row are whole numbers). If not, then SUM (because if P/T the corresponding values in that row are set to [hh]:mm format).

I have another sheet in the same workbook which has code (quoted below) which does something similar but I don't understand it enough to get it doing what I want for the sheet in question.
