How can I save worksheet from existing workbook as a new workbook with extension .xls or .xlsx depending on the version of Excel on which the original was opened and no matter the extension of original?
My code that I was trying to create all above does not work, because even if I am using Excel 2007, 2010 or 2013 it will still be saving only as .xls.
I saved my worksheet in vba .xlsx and for some reason, when I go to the folder that it's saved in and try to open the file I get an error message saying "excel cannot open the file 'PO Acks fo 09-20-2013.xlsx' because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file"
This is weird because I have another file that I save right before this that opens just fine without an error. Getting frustrating. When I go into the ~Users folder it shows as an excel file and saved as .xlsx.
I have a sheet I am working on that was given to me by a supplier and for example the cell in A1 is '2008_world_soccer'. How do I add '.jar' to the end of the filename bearing in mind the filenames are not the same length in each cell. So it would then read '2008_world_soccer.jar' or ''2008_world_soccer_GB_test.jar' etc. Any ideas that would saving me having to edit and type .jar at the end everytime for over a thousand records?
I have a list of file names in an excel sheet. The requirement is to find the extension of each file in the next column. For example file name 123.456.789.jpg extension jpg
file name 123.abcd.789.xlam extension xlam
is there a worksheet function equal to InStrRev in vba?
creating a macro that will inport file exention which has WK4 , i have lotus notes at work i have exported email file to drive U: , i require a macro to pick this file up and export to Sheet Group_Mailbox. The range is A9
Apparently my program quits after i try to open an excel file. If you open the file manually you get an error upon opening the file...something like this:
"File you are tyring to open is in a different format than specified by the file extension".
The problem is i am using an excel macro using VBA and once the file is opened the VBA execution quits.
The excel file turns out to be an xml file which excel can open the file and have the VBA continue running if i RENAME the file with an "xlsx" extension. The problem is that i cant ask the user to rename the file.........how do i get VBA to open the file without an issue?
Has anyone got the add in code? I have my own custom menu bar on my excel. But every time i want to add a new link i must go into the code and manually add the file name extension and relevant VBA code. Is there a method of just entering the file extension in a cell range and excel will automatically update or pick up or link from this location?
I am attempting to write a macro that will open every file in a given folder, then save the files with a new file names while keeping the original file extension. The files I'm opening with excel have file extensions of ".VA", ".TOU", and ".KVA". The new file names I want to save the files with are contained in cell A1.
An example would be: The excel macro opens file "R003890.TOU" The macro assigns a the value in cell "A1" (B1040) to a variable The macro assigns the file extension (.TOU) to a variable The macro saves the file as file name variable and file extension variable (B1040.TOU)
I'm trying to insure that when a file name is inputted into cell "DA7" that the string ends with a ".xls" extension. I'm using "DA7" as a target and have written the following code. When executed nothing happens.
If Target.Address = "DA7" Then Dim ta As String ta = Target.Value If Right(ta, 4) <> ".xls" Then MsgBox "The file name must end with a '.xls' extention" Target.ClearContents End If End If
I need to copy the names and date modified from all pdf files in a open directory. The directory name will change month to month. I will copy the names into an excel workbook that will be opened as well called Shipped starting in sheet1 cell P2
I have a folder containing 1000's of files. All the files end in .txt (for example test.txt) but are actually excel files. When I go to open the files with excel I get the following warning:
The file you are trying to open is in a different format than specified by the file's extension. Verify that the file is not corrupt and from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to continue?
I click "yes" and it opens fine as an excel file.
I want to merge all these files one after another into one file.
I have a master workbook that contains macros and has an xlsm extension.
One macro in the workbook copies one of the worksheets to a new workbook. I then want to save this new workbook as an xlsx file. I use the following code line:
I'm looking for one macro code in order to generate the excel files and give the standard excel file names.
Example: I have one master file in the given path like C:Temp and input box required to assign the number of file option. If I declare 10 files then my master file should get 10 copies and save it the above path....
I have a list of filenames in Sheet1, range A1:A20. These files can be found in URL http://mysite/x/y. Where y is the filename (including the extension) and x is the 1st 4 characters of the filename. So if in A1 I have the filename AB1234.pdf, this can be found in the link: http://mysite/AB12/AB1234.pdf. Is there a was in VBA where I can loop thru the list in A1:A20, and copy each from their respective URLs and save into C:Documents and Settings ?
I am creating a proposal for a online sales store, i have in column A a list of item names that my buyer liked and wants to run, but i have to send them the pictures for the items which is located in a directory on my drive together with all other items. we have 4 category's of pictures 1 is the main image from this we only have 1 of each item, then we have the S category there we may have up to 3 images s1, s2 and s3 not more then 3 and the same is with the R category and with the M as well. We did created a VBA to copy all images from the list into a new directory with all sub pictures into a new sub dir. and bring back a list of all images not found. But i am having a problem when i run the code if it dosnt find the image looking for (for instanse EAR11-M1 the code stopes there looking for the file even the error checking in the code is set to resume what is wrong with code?
I have a workbook that contains worksheets. They are listed as follows:
Sheet 1ABCDEFG
In cells A1 - A49 I have text. What I would like to do is to have a macro that I can run that will basically copy and save new workbooks with sheets A - G copied over and have the new workbook saved with the file name that I have denoted in cells A1 - A49 on Sheet 1. Also, the macro would ask me where I want to save the new Workbooks.
For example, if this were Sheet 1, Column A then the cells below would be the saved name of the new workbooks and the new workbooks would have Sheets A - G in themRed
Blue
Purple
Black
White
Yellow
Orange
Green
Gray
Brown
One more piece of information, the file that is being copied and saved is large (~80MB). If there is a macro that would allow me to simply "save as' the workbook and the Saved Workbooks would be named using the data in Sheet 1, that would work as well in case copying, pasting, then saving may take more time
I need a macro to create a hyperlink i.e....... I have an excel sheet with numbers in column A.....I have files in a folder that matches the numbers in column A....
How would I create a macro to create a hyperlink from the numbers in column A to the "matching" file names in a folder?
I have a work book that I have to copy over 70 times for over 70 work locations. As you can see, this will require different file names for each location.
I would like some have help with a code that I can use. If possialbe I like a code that will make copies of the file renaming each with the names I have on another list. Is this feasible?
I have a worksheet with many tables that I use in formulas.
I like tables for a couple reasons, one being the ability to insert/delete rows without affecting the rest of that worksheet row.
Also, automatic copy of formulas/formatting is great.
But, what I really like about tables is the ability to use the naming conventions in formulas.
Problem is when I save this worksheet, after I close it and open it back up, all table references in my formulas have been converted to cell references.
Example:
Code:
=IF((SUMIF('Quote 1'!$M$28:$M$43,">"&'Quote 1'!$J$57:$J$60)*'Quote 1'!$G$57:$G$60)+(COUNTIF('Quote 1'!$M$28:$M$43,""&'Quote 1'!$J$57:$J$60)*'Quote 1'!$G$57:$G$60)+(COUNTIF('Quote 1'!$M$28:$M$43,""&tblOSSRV[Min Order Cost])*tblOSSRV[Cost / Part])+(COUNTIF(tblFam[[#Data],[Qty by Factor2]],""&tblOSSRV[Min Parts Per Line])*tblOSSRV[Cost / Part])+(COUNTIF(tblFam[[#Data],[Qty by Factor2]],"
1) I'm relatively new to arrays, but what I need to do is generate a list of file names and the sheets within each one. I would like to use an array for this, but since I don't have much experience.... well....that's why I'm here. Can someone point me in the right direction?
2) And the second part of this.... I was planning on using the FileSystemObject to determine the files in a selected folder and loop through that list of files, opening each one and harvesting the required info (file name and all sheet names). Should I use the FSO or is there something built into Excel that might be better (and also limit the number of dependencies for this little "project" of mine).
I need to make this macro read FOLDER names instead of FILE names. When I posted this question yesterday to get this macro, I wasn't told that each file in its own folder. I need the folder names now. _____________________________________
Sub test() With Application.FileSearch .NewSearch .LookIn = "C:Ford" .SearchSubFolders = False .Filename = "*.*" .FileType = msoFileTypeAllFiles If .Execute() > 0 Then For i = 1 To .FoundFiles.Count Cells(i, 1) = .FoundFiles(i) Next i Else Cells(i, 1) = "No files Found" End If End With End Sub
The code below looks at file names in column A and then goes to a folder and opens and copies the data in range c2 -lastrow from each file and pastes the data into sheet2.
how I could add to the code so that it also inserts the file name in column c?
It would make it easier to track the data in column B.
VB: Sub CopyFromFile() Dim fPath As String Dim lRow As Long
[Code].....
I have attached a sample workbook. The list of file name is in sheet 1. An example of the output is in sheet 2. The data in column A is dummy data generally spans 100's of rows not just 10 as in the example.
The purpose of the code is to be able to put a list of file names in column a in sheet 1 and extract data from those files in a folder. The data extraction works fine. The reson for adding the file names is so that I know what file the data came from.
I have a excel workbook with 4 sheets and I want to copy a whole column in a sheet to a binary file and I want to append the file with the same columns in the remaining sheets.
