Counting Names Inside Cells

Is there a particular function which will allow me to count particular names inside cells, e.g, in cell A1 there are three names(Ben, Jack, Tom), cell B1 (Jane, Tom, Andy). I'm looking for a formula which will count the number of occurrences of Tom in cells A1 and B1.

I would like to count the number of time a name occurs in a range. I tried using a simple pivot table but it did not work because I may not always use all of the names from the list. Also I would like to avoid using the count if formula if possible. Is there a way to use a pivot table to do this?

I have a column of random names, say 200 of them in column A. I want to have column D show a name if (and only if) it appears more than once and have a count of how many times it appears in column E.

I have a list of 60,000 names in a spreadsheed, column A has the NAME, Column B the STREET NUMBER and Column C the STREET NAME. Heres a small sample.

As you can see some of the names repeat, and that is exactly what I want. I want to write a formula in Column D that will indicate how many times each name appears so that it will show, for example, a "5" beside JAQUE D J" and a "2" beside "BAXTER P M".
I have tried using EXACT, MODE, IF ... COUNTIF wouldn't work because there will be some names that are duplicate but at different addresses, besides the range would be enormous.

I have a column that can have a single name or multiple names typed in each cell. I would like to use a vlookup table to match against the cells values. Exact matches are no problem when it is a single name, but I need a formula that matches up the name, but does not need to match the entire cell text (name1, name2, name3,...) and can count the number of cells that contained this text with in a range. In the example above, I have three names.
If those three names are listed in the vlookup table, I want to count each one so that I can sum up that company 1 appeared x number of times with in the column and is x % of all company names, company 2 appared x number of times and is x% of all companies, and so on. My formula to match exact text values looks like this: =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(D4,$H$7:$J$48,3,0)),0,VLOOKUP(D4,$H$7:$J$48,3,0)) This works fine if the cell value is simply company 1, etc.

how can I use a formula via VBA instead of putting it in the cell itself? It is causing me problems because when I put a formula in a entire row, all the cells five me the number ZERO, when I want them to stay without any number until I input something in the other row's cell in the same line. I will give an example: I would like that anytime I entry any number in a cell in column A the cell in column C will give me the number in column A times the number in column B (which is a variable daily updated via an internet connection), and when the cell in column A becomes "null" (that is when there is no number in the cell, not even a zero) the cell in column C also becomes null.
When I try to do it using formulas in the cells I always get a ZERO in all the column cause they read a 'null' as a 'zero'. Trying it using VBA I have some success but still have problems. I tried this code
If Target.Column = 3 Then Cells(Target.Row, 8) = Cells(Target.Row, 3) * Worksheets("Sheet4").Range("d32").Value
But it makes the cell in column 8 be static and change only when I click on the cell in column 3. I need it to change automatically when the number in D32 is changed too. As a formula in the cell would do.
is there any way to input a formula via VBA, how?

I have a list of tasks/rows with completion rate from 1-100%. I would like to display this rate information through individual tiny bar charts linked to each cell value. I managed to do it by formatting and resizing a chart appropriately. However, i don't know how to proceed to copy and paste the chart for all rows without having to edit the data series individually.

I have a sheet with columns for the transport number, the invoice for the each good transported, the freight for each good and the weight.
Problem is, the weight is the total weight of the goods in each transport.
I need a macro that creates a new column that divides the weight based on the freight cost for each invoice in each transport - a weighted average.

I'm working within a nested FOR loop. If you notice when I'm Assigning "ECD" I'm trying to average the cells from J (which is row 1) and column 11 to column 12. It keeps on telling me "Application-Defined or object-defined error".

I have 4 cells with simple data in them. In another cell, I would like to make a phrase and include all the data from the 4 cells in that phrase.
Example:
="Jackpot: &G2 (&G1) / &G3 = &G4 each"
I already tried this:
="Jackpot: "&G2" ("&G1") / "&G3" = "&G4" each"
Am I missing something? I'm pretty sure this is doable, I just don't know what's missing.

I am making a buiness card request form, which I have attached. On the Master Sheet (Sheet 1), the user enters in his/her personal data, such as his name address, phone number, etc. After he/she finished entering all the relevant data, Business Card Layout (Sheet 2) automatically populates and shows the user what their business card will look like.
Everything works fine, however I just realized that the contact information might vary from person to person. Right now, a person can enter 5 different contact information, but most of them will probably only choose four.
I wanted to know how to shift the cells down if the user does not fill out one of the contact information.

I have an excel database where I register cases. I have in it a button that creates a folder with and ID nr that is in column A (I create new ID nr in the next row, when I press the button it will create a folder with that ID nr and inserts a blank word document in it). We have a template that we copy to the folder (depending what type of case). The idea would be that once the template is filled in and ready to print, It would take the values from the ID nr and a reference number a few cells to the right. Is it possible to tell excel to open the word document in the folder and create a PDF version with the ID nr and reference number. (there are only 2 templates, so the macro would have to look for one of the two in the folder)
The name of the templates are: "Standard" and "Other".
I guess the best way to start maybe this would be that I select the cell with the ID nr and then press a macro button to have this done.
One thing that needs to be done, is to put a copy in the same folder and another in a second folder called "Binder" in my documents folder.

Is there a function in Excel that will count cells that are different from one another? I.e. it would not count the same value twice. For example, in column A:

b
a
b
b
c
a
c
The result would be 3. However, if I replaced the first "a" with a "d" I would get 4 as a result. Basically I want to know how many different arguments there are in a list. I could not find a function that does this in the Excel list of functions.

I am now attempting to do the same type tally except I want a tally for "in conference" Wins/Losses.
I tried the same "SUMPRODUCT" formula as before except this time I held the control key down so as to use only the cells desired. I'm getting "VALUE" for my answer though.
The row I have added in for in conference tally is row 3.
All blue colored cells are for the ACC conference and the green are for the SEC.
Is there a way to get the win/loss figures for selected cells / rows only?

I am trying to create a formula to count the # of names up to a certain word. So Cells A1-F1. Are a list of names, the Last name in the list starts with VACANT. How do I create a formula to count the # of names in the list upto the work VACANT? So if VACANT moves to C1 it would decrease the # of names.

I have written some VBA code to to test if there are 8 names within a range (EF5:FH5, these are 8 merged cells, (4x4 cells)), if there is 8 names within the cells, ie not any empty cells, then the coding will add the new staff name to "trigger_box_1b", and if not then "trigger_box_1a". These trigger boxes are then used to populate further cells.

the problems I have be having is that VBA is not recognising the Countif function ("Compile Error: Invalid qualifier", then highlights the Countif). I have tried using a CountA function with the same responce. I have tested the rest of the coding and know that it's working fine (don't think anyone would like to see 75+ pages of VBA coding)

I know this question may have been posted before, but I can not seem to get this to work with my formula. I have a formula to count the values of a column so that I can convert it to a graph. I am giving a value of 1 to cells that contain numbers between 0 and 9.5 and giving a value of 0 to cells that contain numbers greater than 9.5. It works fine except that I have some blank cells that I do not want to get rid of and it is counting those as zeros and giving them a value of one. I want to ignore the blank cells or give them a value of zero.

In my dataset above the cases finish after 12 months (hence why there is a maximum number of cases).
What I am seeking is a method to count along a certain number of cells, then sum the contents of those. For example, I would like to count the contents of up to 12 cells, then sum those 12 cells.
Where it gets difficult is as follows:
- In month 6, I am just counting the contents of 6 cells (months 1-6)
- In month 12, I am counting the contents of 12 cells (months 1 -12)
- In month 18, I am counting the contents of 12 cells (month 7 - 18)

A cell on sheet1 needs to count the number of cells on sheet2 (D3:D31) that has a complete (top, bottom, left and right) border. This is my best shot at it.

One issue, on sheet2 for example cell D4 is merged with E4 and F4 as is every even cell in the D column down to row 30. Not sure if that throws a wrench in things or not.

I have a large number of customers listed in an excel sheet that may recieve a visit from my organisation. The reason for the visit may vary and sometimes a customer may recieve more than one visit. Each Row (or record) maps to a customer. Each column has a visit type which I insert a date in to say when the customer has been visited.
I am looking for a function that will return if a customer has been visited or not. As dates can be summed like numbers I am currently saying in the "Visits Recieved" column =if(sum of dates (visit type colunm) >0, 1,0) Then I simply sum the column to get my answer of how many csutomers have been visited.

I have column D with blank cells and some with purchase order numbers in them. I want to count the blank cells in column D but only if the blank is 3days older than the date recorded in column A. Once I have done this I want to count ther same on every work sheet and I have 24 off them and get one answer.
