Created Validation Drop-down List - Can I Make The Row Now Change To The Colour That Relates To The Selection From The List
Jan 13, 2009
I am trying to create a fairly simple spreadsheet with about 8 columns and about 400 rows. One of the columns features a drop-down list with about 8 or 9 different options. Dependant on which option is selected, i would like the entire row to change colour with that option.
FAILED - whole row changes red
SUCCESSFUL - row has no fill
Tested - row changes to orange
I'm using Excel 2007. I would like to seek some advise on how i may update cells after selecting a month from a drop down list.
i have created a simplified version of what i intend to have. One the 1st tab 'Cash Budget 2009', i have filled up a table with numbers, sorted by months. On the 2nd tab 'Dec09', i would like to create an expense table, to be able to be selected by month. So i have created a drop down list based on the months that are created in the 1st tab.
Upon selection of the month from the drop down list, i would like the cells to display (fetch) the data from the 1st worksheet. It would also be helpful if the name of the 2nd tab can be updated to read as the month that is being selected.
I have 13 sheets in my workbook (one for each month plus a GlobalSettings). In each month sheet I want to create a change event that prompts a UserForm when they select "Yes" from a drop-down validation list if it happens to be a month prior to the current month.
Sheet 2. A1: Drop down datavalidation list selected from A3, sheet 1.
On sheet 2, a user can select from the list. If a user changes the value in A2, sheet 1, I want the value that is associated and already selected in A1, sheet 2 to automatically update. There is a 1 to many relationship with the concat and the drop down. In that, sheet 2 can have multiple rows with the same value from sheet 1 A3. Is there a way when A3 sheet 1 changes, to search in A:A in sheet two and update the values for those records that match the original value in A3, sheet 1?
I'm trying to create a spreadsheet that has a data validation in it. I have a drop down list that has to options to select; Yes and no. Every time I create a new row to add more information I have to go through the process of creating a new data validation for for each cell in this coloumn.
Is there anyway of creating a way that every time I insert a new row, a data validation list box will appear in the coloumn that I want it in?
i mtrying to get a validation list change depending on what is chosen in another list. I have attached an example, Yellow box is my validation and weather List 1 or List 2 in chosen I want the red box to be a choose of the list attached to those options. I've tried to put an If in there but Iím al a loss.
My Objective: Simplified Assuming a range A1:G15 A Validation list in column H
The Validation List options are: Blue,Pink,Green,Black,Grey,Yellow,Orange and None or '
how I create a Case Select code to change, the row range dependant on the option selected in the validation list.....or most efficient code to achieve my objective.
Or the most efficient code method to achieve the outcome I am seeking.
What I can't figure out 1: How to incorporate the validation list selection to recognise the colour option selected.
What I can't figure out 2: I want to be able to format a row any of colours in the list, so if it is black, would I need to clear the black format before changing it to say Orange, or is it possible to go straight from black to Orange?
What I have tried: I am aware of the limitation of three formats using "Conditional Formatting" so want to expand the colour formatting possbilities using code, by selecting choice of format colour from a validation list.
I did a macro recording, selecting the appropriate option within the Validation List, and then formatting a row range....I experimented with the resulting code to no success, although I have a copy of VBA and Macros for MS Excel....theres a lot to think about....and I can't quite grasp what's required.
Code I have used in the passed for a similar but different worksheet:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) On Error GoTo Err_Handler
I have attached my problem workbook in explanation, I need help of pulling values from particular data by referencing selection in drop down list via some formula. I thought about using the SUMPRODUCT and VLOOKUP but couldnt reference the values in drop down list.
I am trying to do, is make a drop down list show the picture above it. I have tried to change everything, and I am sure I am just a hair away from getting it right. I got the spreadsheet to where it will pull up the "Picture #" in the appropriate box, and even had it delete/hide all my pictures (I say delete/hide because I couldn't get them back after I removed the coding I was working on).
Another nice function I would like would be a button, around cell B74, to erase all the picks and reset the sheet for the next season... it would have to have a prompt to verify the user was absolutely sure they wanted to do that though! But I don't know where to begin on that button issue. Can someone point me in the right direction?
The spreadsheet is too big to attch, so it's hosted at the link below. The sheets involved are NFL Survivor & PicTable. On sheet PicTable, the Names & Pic #'s have already been named PicTable for ease of coding.
One worksheet will have a library of job elements for assembly process with standard times on it.For example:Pick up a bolt(0.621m),install gasket(0.231m) etc. The main worksheet will have a dropdown list which will list all the job elements discussed above. It will also have the quantity. So in otherwords,to pick up one bolt the time would be 0.621 minutes. But if anyone picks up 4 bolts the time would be 2.115 minutes, which can be calculated by the formula. So I want to display the job element, qty and the time in three separate rows. This worksheet will also calculate the total time for the assembly of the components which might contain more than thousand job elements. My question is how do I ensure that picking up any of these job elements will give me the correct time.Is this something that can be done by formulas or anything thats built in excel or I need to run a macro or VBA to run some codes for IF...ELSE....THEN statements. There are too many conditions like If pick up one bolt time is 0.621 minutes,if pick up 4 bolts time is 2.115 minutes or if pick up a gasket time is 0.231 minutes.
Im currently creating a spreadsheet for my work, with common problems and solutions to one of our websites.
When the spreadsheet is opened, the user will click a button depending on what sort of problem he/she is having. In the example attached, if the user clicks on "make payments" a form will appear. This will have a list of problems.
if the user choses problem 1 from the drop down list, then I would like the list of solutions to problem 1(from the MPData sheet) to show in the box below. The same goes for problem 2, problem 3 etc.
I was wondering if there is a way to see all the choices on a drop list. Currently the drop list only shows 8 choices but I am wanting to see all 32 choices eliminating the need to scroll the list. I have attached a picture.
Can we have colors to choose from,in the validation list drop down? Instead of values of text I want colors to choose from the drop down list. Once I click on the small arrow, I should have the color shades to choose from the drop down list.
I'm trying to make a sheet that will allow users to either pick from a drop down box, or if the choice they want isn't there, to input data in the same cell. That part I have got. What I can't do is figure out how to have excel add that user input to the list of options, so that they next time the drop down box is used, that "user input" will appear as an option in the drop down. I used data validation to do all these drop downs.
I'm trying to create a drop down list which returns values based on what has been selected in the previous drop down list in the adjacent cell, e.g. if 'Apples' is selected in the previous cell then you should only be able to select from 'Gala, Granny Smith', or if 'Oranges' is selected you should only be able to select 'Seville, Blood Orange'. Is there a formula which would do this, or can I use a pivot table somehow? I'm totally stumped.
There are multiple training sessions that will be rolling out in Q1 13 and my manager needs a way to track which empolyees have been to which training sessions. Easy enough. He wants something extremely clean looking, but obviously efficient. What he described to me (his vision) is to have the training sessions listed into columns with drop down under each that contain every employee's name. So when a training session is held, he can easily click the drop down beneath the session title and select multiple persons that were in attendance. Right now I just have all the employees listed in column A and all the training sessions listed across the top and anticipated just putting a "x" in the box for the session that each person attends. This will accomplish exactly what he's looking for, but if what he's describing is remotely possible I would like to do that.
I haven't used buttons much. I would like to create a list of projects in column A. Then the user would select one of the projects. This can be done by clicking on the corresponding cell in column B. So I would lkie to see buttons in column B for this. OR if someone can suggest another way, e.g. highlighting the project name in column A or putting an x in corresponding cell in column B. I can make this last scenerio work, but I don't know how to assure that only one project can be selected at a time. In other words if I have selected project in ROW 12 and then I want to see project in ROW 17, I should be able to select 17. And 12 should be deselected automatically.
I have created a pricing sensitivity for a list of products. In cell C3, users can select a product (i.e. Apple, Elmo, or Bowl) and based on this selection, a range of Prices and Units are then updated and the Revenue for each price point calculated. A few lines beneath this, I have a little summary table that lists all the products. I'd like for users to be able to enter in the optimal price point for each item and then have the Units and Revenue for that selected price point for that specific product automatically update.
For example, if I select Apple from my drop down list my price choices are $5, $10, $15; units are 100, 85, 70; and revenue are $500, $850, and $1,050 respectively. On the summary table, I would like units 85, revenue $850 to update automatically if I select/input a $10 price. This would happen for all the products so at the end I want to be able to calculate a blended revenue mix given my pricing changes.
A list in A2 of Sheet 1 of workbook has values "Select", "Yes", "No". How can I get the functionality using VBA so that until a certain rule is met (say A1 becomes 1) selection of items in the list is disabled? (Or any selection of items in the list returns a value of select only?
I need to have a drop down list which displays a different set of values depending upon the value selected by a previous drop down list. ie. (drop down box 1)= x, y, z. (drop down box 2)= either x1, x2, x3, or y1, y2, y3, or z1, z2, z3. I can produce a single drop down box thats not a problem but linking several drop down boxes is beyond me .
