Can we have colors to choose from,in the validation list drop down? Instead of values of text I want colors to choose from the drop down list. Once I click on the small arrow, I should have the color shades to choose from the drop down list.

I am trying to create a fairly simple spreadsheet with about 8 columns and about 400 rows. One of the columns features a drop-down list with about 8 or 9 different options. Dependant on which option is selected, i would like the entire row to change colour with that option.
For example:
FAILED - whole row changes red
SUCCESSFUL - row has no fill
Tested - row changes to orange
etc.
Is this possible within Excel 2003?
I was wondering if there is a way to see all the choices on a drop list. Currently the drop list only shows 8 choices but I am wanting to see all 32 choices eliminating the need to scroll the list. I have attached a picture.

Therfore i want in a validation list all the values (A - G) except the value represented in the box, hence (C).
I'm trying to make a sheet that will allow users to either pick from a drop down box, or if the choice they want isn't there, to input data in the same cell. That part I have got. What I can't do is figure out how to have excel add that user input to the list of options, so that they next time the drop down box is used, that "user input" will appear as an option in the drop down. I used data validation to do all these drop downs.

This is the code for the change event:

I have not found a way to control the width of a validation drop down menu. I have 3 drop down list. Two of them are in wide column cells and one a narrow column cell. For some reason my narrow column cell gives me a wide pull down even though the length of the data in this field is only 3 to four characters.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that all the cell dropdown lists i have (created by using Data | Validation | Allow | List) are very difficult to read its as though the font is size 8 or 6 or even less, is there a way of displaying the dropdown contents in a larger format? i have tried changing the font size of the named range and of the cell holding the dropdown but to no avail.

The arrow on the right of the selected cell dose not appear onthis particulr sheet. I have rebooted the PC and double checked the in-cell option. I have search the forum for similar problem and found the same problem but no remedy.

i have created a simplified version of what i intend to have. One the 1st tab 'Cash Budget 2009', i have filled up a table with numbers, sorted by months. On the 2nd tab 'Dec09', i would like to create an expense table, to be able to be selected by month. So i have created a drop down list based on the months that are created in the 1st tab.
Upon selection of the month from the drop down list, i would like the cells to display (fetch) the data from the 1st worksheet. It would also be helpful if the name of the 2nd tab can be updated to read as the month that is being selected.
I'm trying to create a drop down list which returns values based on what has been selected in the previous drop down list in the adjacent cell, e.g. if 'Apples' is selected in the previous cell then you should only be able to select from 'Gala, Granny Smith', or if 'Oranges' is selected you should only be able to select 'Seville, Blood Orange'. Is there a formula which would do this, or can I use a pivot table somehow? I'm totally stumped.

(drop down box 2)= either x1, x2, x3, or y1, y2, y3, or z1, z2, z3. I can produce a single drop down box thats not a problem but linking several drop down boxes is beyond me .
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to develop an Indirect Indirect Validation drop down list. Example, Building - Floor - Room, i.e. Select Building from a Validation drop down list. Then based upon the Building selected, select only the Floors applicable to the Building Selected. I am able to achieve this via an Indirect Validation drop down. However, when I attempt to then select the Rooms applicable to the Floor of the Building I selected, I can not produce an Indirect Validation off a previous Indirect Validation.
In the attachment, I have used Plant - Location - Room. I have name ranged the selections, and have used Validations Lists for Plant, and Indirect Validations for Location. The error occurs where I attempt to do an Indirect Validation for Room.
I have a drop down box in column N, however I would like the options in that drop down box to change depending on what appears in column M.
If column M Says "Lapse" then I want one drop down box to appear in column N, If coumn M says "NTU" then I would like column N to show different drop down options.
My pallet lost color-coding - if I hover over each little scare it displays the names for the colors and if I click on them they color the cells with the right colors, but the palette itself lost the visual display of colors except for 8 colors: black, blue, red, magenta, yellow, cyan, and white.
I use color-coding of cells a lot and I find it difficult to work without visual clues. At least the hover-support allows me to get the work done, but with difficulty.
Let's say I have a list in worksheet 1. It's in column A, starts in row 1 and goes.

In worksheet 2 I want to list in row 1, starting with column A, which colors have a value next to them. I want the list to match the first worksheet's order. I'm looking for a formula solution.

I am going to use excel for test cases. I can creat a drop down list with the selections "pass", "fail", "not run". That isn't a problem using the data validation toolbar. However I would like to basically color the cell (test case) with a certain color based on the drop down selection.
for instance:
Pass = Green
Fail = Red
Not run = Orange.
I want to do couple of things here.
1. put an empty field in a drop down box. If possible the empty field should be at the top from the drop down menu.
2. Update names in drop down box when I add names to the list
How to make a drop-down list appear when a cell is double-clicked as opposed to just clicking on the box to the right of the cell that appears when you click in the cell? I want to be able to use the ability to drag-copy the cell contents from the little square in the bottom-right of the cell, but cannot do this when there is a validation drop-down list!!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a spreadsheet with two drop downs, one lets say has country and the other city. When I select a country in the country drop down, I want to be able to only select cities in that country.
I used a method that I found in an earlier post, where I define the name of list of cities of a country to that country and then use the indirect function in city dropdown down validation. The prolem is I can still get mismatched city and country because when I change country, I still have the city from the previous selection untill I drop down and select the city again.
I would like the city to show blank when I change the country until I select a city from that country.
Is there a way to increase the number of items shown in the list when you drop down a validated cell? (I don't want to use a combobox for this).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI named a range State, it contains a list of all the US state abbreviations. I do a data validation that refers to this range as a List. If I type in something that's not in the named range I get the error message I created for the Validation.
But - I don't get a drop down button. I tried to do the same validation on another cell and get the same thing. Other drop downs for validation appear.
I have a range in a worksheet named "Product3" that has data down to row 30 that is linked to drop down boxes on another sheet. I want to add data to rows 31-40 to also show up in the drop downs. How do I extend that range?

Later on... The user types in the customers ACTUAL bank acount that they will be making payments from.
If the user types in a bank that is the same as one from the drop down list earlier on, I would like a dialog box to come up with further instructions.
