Creating Bubble Charts On Three Different Columns Of Data
May 23, 2012
I'm trying to create a bubble chart created on three different columns of data. I'd like the following:
-The X-axis should just show the first columns of dates I have stored.
-The Y-axis should be the number of lots of a product that I bought of a certain product.
-I'd like the actual bubbles to not only represent the number of lots purchased on the given date, but I'd like the size to be represented by the third column, which is the average price of each lot.
Is there a way to do this? I've been trying to maneuver it around all morning, and can't seem to get it how I want it. I'm not sure if I'm ordering the columns incorrectly or what.
Im trying to create a simple 3D Bubble Chart macro, and as most people who've never dealt with this before (i think), i've hit a wall with BubbleSizes. I've attached the file im trying to get to work. The VBA is quite simple but an error occurs at BubbleSizes. I've read that BubbleSizes takes a different reference style than xValues and such, but haven't had any luck trying to change that. For those who just want to see the code without getting the file:
Sub EmbeddedChartFromScratch() Dim myChtObj As ChartObject Dim rngChtData As Range Dim rngChtXVal As Range Dim iColumn As Long ' make sure a range is selected If TypeName(Selection) <> "Range" Then Exit Sub ' define chart data Set rngChtData = Selection ' add the chart Set myChtObj = ActiveSheet.ChartObjects.Add _ (Left:=250, Width:=375, Top:=75, Height:=225) With myChtObj.Chart................................
I have a file in which column a shows product names, and columns b and c contains quantitative data. I want to put this in a bubble graph (column b = y axis) and (column c = x axis) and label the bubble with the product names. I tried to make this graph but either it doesn't show labels ,either it doesn't provide bubbles. How can i label the bubbles? I attached a small sample file.
I've got a table which has additives in Column A and products on Row 1. There are 13 additives and 10 products. Each combination of product and additive has a price. So I have 130 different prices in my table. The prices change monthly and the new prices are added to the sheet so that last months prices will move to left so that the newest price data table is A1:J13 and previous month is K1:T13 and so on.
I need to make an individual chart to every combination which contains the history of the price changes. I have two cells (A20 and B20) where the user can pick a product and an additive (created a menu by using Data|Validation...). These selections are combined in a cell C20 (=A20&B20). Then I have a macro that is linked to the cell C20 and is basically Case Is = 1st combination --> Call Macro1, Case Is = 2nd combination --> Call Macro2 etc.
That macro will work out just fine, BUT is there any way I could make all the 130 charts easier? Now I've recorded a macro that creates the first chart and then I've just copy-pasted it, changed the attributes (cell numbers, names and so on) that define the data to the next charts. This will take ages...
Every combination will have at least 13 changes (12 monthly price cells and the name of the cart) so in total this will mean about 1500 manual changes. In my case this will mean a high danger of typos.
I know, it would be SO much easier if I could give you the Excel file to look at...hopefully you understood what I mean.
I'll only follow the changes within a year so prices older than a year will not be shown in the charts.
Now I need to create multiple pie charts based on data in tables on many sheets.
I need to create the same set of charts, for each sheet separately.
I recorded a macro for one sheet, which created following
ActiveSheet.Shapes.AddChart.Select ActiveChart.ChartType = xlPie ActiveChart.SeriesCollection.NewSeries ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).Name = "='GALLERY ON 4TH'!$B$2" ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).Values = "='GALLERY ON 4TH'!$D$6:$D$8" ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).XValues = "='GALLERY ON 4TH'!$A$6:$A$8" Range("A11").Select ActiveSheet.Shapes.AddChart.Select ActiveChart.ChartType = xlPie ActiveChart.SeriesCollection.NewSeries ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).Name = "='GALLERY ON 4TH'!$A$6" ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).Values = "='GALLERY ON 4TH'!$B$6:$C$6" ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).XValues = "='GALLERY ON 4TH'!$B$5:$C$5" ActiveWindow.SmallScroll Down:=3 Range("A11").Select ActiveSheet.Shapes.AddChart.Select ActiveChart.ChartType = xlPie ActiveChart.SeriesCollection.NewSeries ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).Name = "='GALLERY ON 4TH'!$A$7" ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).Values = "='GALLERY ON 4TH'!$B$7:$C$7" ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).XValues = "='GALLERY ON 4TH'!$B$5:$C$5"
However I cannot automate. I tried different methods for creating the charts, as found on the site [prefer .chartobjects.add(x,y,z,a) since I can immediately position the chart] , but get stuck at seriescollection everytime.
It looks like when the chart is created by XL (with suggested data in it) I cannot address the series data. I got it right to generate a chartobject that is empty, then added the series data to it, but when opening the new chartobject, it is again populated with suggested data.
How do I generate an empty chartobject everytime, so I can insert seriescollection info with code?
am trying to create multiple pie charts now but I'm having problems my errors are highlighted in red. What I'm trying to achieve is to create a pie chart for the first table then another for the next table and so on but its not working out.
I have following code which is not behaving the way I want.
[Code] ....
The problem is the last statement, a chart which gets created in an iteration does not "move" to a new sheet but rather same sheet. So end result is a sheet with chart of the last iteration.
How to get this code to create new charts in new sheet and not the same sheet.
I've got quite of few excel charts to make and have been looking for a way to automate the process. The chart types include line, pie, and bar. Basically, I have data for each state in the US that I am comparing with national level data. Thus each chart will have national level data and the data for each state. What I need is a macro that I can easily change the parameters for because different worksheets have slightly different layouts. I started by using the macro recorder to make a chart. Then I attempted to edit it so that it would run loops to make additional charts. Below is some sample data for the first worksheet I have and my attempted macro.
Sample Data:
Code: State Characteristic Value07 Value08 Value09 Alaska A 11 23 45 Alaska B 13 22 98 Alaska C 99 91 21 Alabama A 23 14 11 Alabama B 44 62 76 Alabama C 75 47 21[code]....
building dynamic charts and filters, so What I'm hoping to accomplish to build a bar chart that looks like the following: ________________________________________________ Filter: State | Filter: Region | Filter: Segment |
Revenues |||||||||||||||| + (% of Total Rev) COGS ||||||||||| + (% of Total COGS) Margin |||| + (% of Total Margin) -------------------------------------------------------
My data is built in the following format on a different tab than the proposed chart:
State: | Region: | Segment: | Account: | Amount: | MN | Midwest | Major | Revenues | $$$ MN | Midwest | Major | COGS | $$$ MN | Midwest | Major | Margin | $$$ MN | Midwest | Major | % of Total Revenues | %%% MN | Midwest | Major | % of Total COGS | %%% MN | Midwest | Major | % of Total Margin | %%%
[Code] ........
It seems like it'll be easy to use a pivotchart, but at the same time, there's a lot of formatting to do, which makes it tricky, especially if I have many states to deal with and the multiple combinations.
I have a dynamic set of data, loaded from a server. The columns are FIXED. I will attach a sample of how the data looks.
site_code report_goup asm_week
[Code].....
I don't know how to attatch a file here, but the first row is the title row, under it are the values. The columns here are fixed. What i NEED to do, is somehow create something that will make a seperate graph for every different PLATFORM , showing the FPY chaging over time. Time here is the weeks which will always be a rolling 12 weeks. I'm thinking that i need to use MACROS to do this, but i'm not sure where to start.
I want to find the number of similar values contained in a column based on a date range I specify.
I have a data set that's formatted like the following (you can see the full data set at [URL] but I've hidden the irrelevant columns and highlight the relevant ones)
[Code] .......
I want to use this data to create two types of graphs. One showing the ratio including all values in the Status column. There are 4 total (Open, Lost, Won, Won-Job Cancelled). I want another which excludes the "open" status from the ratio figure. I've create some images demonstrating what I want to accomplish at [URL] .....
Additionally, I want to be able to specificy date ranges for these charts. Specifically 0-30 days from todays date, 30-90 days and older than 90 days.
I want to accomplish this using Google Sheets (the latest version) and know how to use the graph total. It's just creating the data the way I need it which is proving to be the most challenging.
I am looking to create a dynamic bubble chart. To do this I am using offset to create the series formula which without listing all the data names turns out to be something like this (where 297 will adjust to the number of rows with data): =SERIES(Project!$A$5:$A$297, Project!$J$5:$J$297,Project!$P$5:$P$297,2,Project!$Q$5:$Q$297)
My problem is that by creating the chart in this fassion I am unable to get a unique name for each data point. For example, if row A looks like this,
A5: 1 A6: 2 A7: 3
each data point will be named 1 2 3. How do I either create a new series for each row dynamically or get the specific name from column A to associate with the correct data point?
My problem: I have downloaded national economic data from IMF with several countries for several years. I need several variables and must extract them individually so I a need a clever solution to my problem.
I currently have data that is sorted like below. The "-" indicates a numerical gdp value for the given country for the given year.;
(FYI I could not get the "-" to align beneath 2001-2004 and year respectively.)
Country 2001 2002 2003 2004 x - - - - y - - - - z - - - -
The identifier here is country, and the data is as such structured as cross sectional data, with each yearly account of gdp being a variable. Now, I need this data as panel data, organized as below:
Country year gdp x 2001 - x 2002 - x 2003 - x 2004 -
I sort of say, need to "flip it". As I have 180 countries and 11 years, and need to do this with 2-3 variables, I need either a formula or a VBA to run.
I am inputting 5 variables in columns A through E:
Family (Y/N) Adult (1/0) Child (1/0) Date of Birth Gender
I am attempting to generate:
Age Males in families sorted into age brackets Age Females in families sorted into age brackets Age Males single sorted into age brackets Age Females single sorted into age brackets
I did this rather simplistically generating 4 columns (F through I) and then using COUNTIF (although I know there is a better way than the lame way I used COUNTIF but that is not the point right now).
However, my question is, can I generate the data described above (located in D13:I22 on my spreadsheet) without going through the messy, cumbersome step of creating extra columns?
We use excel for scheduling purposes and each and every day we fill out a floor chart with who is working that day. As it stands now we have to print out a template and hand write all names or type them in and print it out. What I would like to try and do is define each set of names and allow for easy access to auto fill these names. I feel it needs to be a simple process as not all of our managers experienced in excel or formulas. What I would like to try an accomplish is in sheet 1 cell A1 to be able to create a drop list or formula that that would let me return all the names for a given day.
For the purposes of this discussion we can just define each list as the day that is the header ( IE A2:A4 on sheet 2 would be defined as "monday". Also, I already have the names autofilled based off of what the our schedule has. I'm curious if I could create a drop down list with each day of the week as an option, and if they select Tuesday it will then return all the names defined as Tuesday in a column below.And the next day be able to return Wednesday names and so on.
I'm not stuck on it being a drop down list. Maybe if they could just type and =(defined name) in the box above and it would return all the names.
I have tried an =(defined name) and it does return the value but only for the first cell and it has to be in the same row for it to return the name. Which doesn't work because I would like the names that are being defined on a separate sheet.
I'm creating a spreadsheet to keep track of my costs of production in an online game. Within the game there are a range of spawned resources that appear for only a short time before being unobtainable these resources have specific types that is shared between multiple spawns of the resource but each resource spawn has a unique name.
My first worksheet lists all the resources and their various qualities and the later worksheets are meant to allow me to choose from a list resources matching the requirements of the item I'm looking to craft. The example i have shown in the second picture requires Tatooinian Fiberplast and Lokian Wild Wheat to craft so in the Chosen Resource column I would like to have a drop down list allowing me to select the named resource type i would like to use - for Tatooinian Fiberplast the only thing on the list should be Omnitwixi and for the Wild Wheat it should show Fizi and Krad

I am aware there are people with more pressing problems than computer games and as such
create a Quadrant Bubble chart. I have found examples of using scatter charts but unfortantely those charts do not satisfy what I am trying to accomplish.
When i add a month coloumn,Sparklines and Average coloumn should get updated automaticaly.Now this is not happening even if the data is in table format.I also want the graphs to be automaticaly updated.
In the attached document is a timeline made from a scatter chart. Error bars using custom values are used to show the length of each task, however I can't get the chart to include error bars for the last 2 data points (tasks).
I created a bubble chart whose x-axis and y-axis show every 10th value between 0 and 100 (i.e. 0, 10, 20, 30...). The axes intersect at (50, 50) to create 4 quadrants.
I want to erase/hide the values on the axes (i.e. the axes will no longer show 0, 10, 20, 30... and at the same time, the bubbles will still be in the same place) to create 4 blank quadrants and make my bubble chart easier to look at.
If the bubble size is 0-5, I need the bubble color to be green If the bubble size is 6-15, I need the bubble color to be yellow If the bubble size is 16-25, I need the bubble color to be red.
So, right now my chart looks like this: chart.png
As you can see the top bubble is the right color, but based on the bottom bubble value, it should be green.
How do I make this change colors dynamically based on the bubble size value?
I have the Lat and Long for each of several US cities. I want to use these to create a bubble chart that plots the cities and which I can place over a US map picture.
However, I have the problem that, because of the curvature of the earth, the city locations form the lat and longs are not tying with the map.
how to adjust the lat and longs so that they will correspond to the typical US map?
For example, the base lat and longs for Denver are 39.5742 and -104.8588. What formulas can I use to modify these to match the standard map projection?
I’m trying to take an existing bubble chart, paste new data into the sheet, then march sequentially from row to row, adding specific cells within each as a new series in the chart until I run out of rows. Below is my latest attempt (not working of course).
Sub setseries1() Range("A1").Select 'select upper left cell to start Do Until ActiveCell.Value = "" 'stop when you run out of rows ActiveChart.ChartArea.Select ActiveChart.ChartType = xlBubble With ActiveChart.SeriesCollection.NewSeries 'use these values for the next series .Name = ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select .BubbleSizes = ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).Select .Values = ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).Select .XValues = ActiveCell.Offset(0, 9).Select End With 'go to next row, and repeat ActiveCell = ActiveCell.Offset(0, -1) Loop End Sub
I have a worksheet where I am collecting data and a seperat Chart. The first part of this code which adds a new row in my table works perfectly fine, but the latter part (based on a macro recording) does not. I need to specify the relevant row for the new series in the bubble chart. The colums are of course the same.
Hi, have a question regarding dynamic charts, specifically I am trying to create several dymanic charts based on data in a single column (So i can only say my first set of data will be starting a a set location in the chart, the rest has to shift down based chart data above it). This data should organized in charts depending on the data in several other columns. For instance, need to pull out values from column based some ID and some PartNumber. A sample excel or VBA would be much appreciated. I know VBA but do not know Excel VBA much.
I'm trying to make a macro that generates a bubble graph from a defined range. I however can't seem to get the SeriesCollection.NewSeries to work.
Dim nr As Integer Dim myChart As ChartObject Set myChart = ActiveSheet.ChartObjects.Add(Left:=100, Width:=375, Top:=75, Height:=225) myChart.Chart.SetSourceData Source:= Sheets("Sheet1").range("A2:D2"), PlotBy:= _ xlRows myChart.Activate With ActiveChart.SeriesCollection.NewSeries .Name = ActiveSheet.Cells(nr + 1, A) .XValues = ActiveSheet.Cells(nr + 1, B) .Values = ActiveSheet.Cells(nr + 1, C) .BubbleSizes = ActiveSheet.Cells(nr + 1, D) With .Interior If Cells(nr + 1, G) >= 50 Then .ColorIndex = 4 Else .ColorIndex = 10 End If End With End With myChart.Chart.ChartType = xlBubble
When you hold your mouse over a bubble on a bubble chart, it typically displays the x value, y value and size value. Is there any way to add other captions to display? For example, if my chart is based on sales data and I'm plotting a point based on ease of probability (x axis) and dollar value (y value)....I'd also like to see the initials of the salesperson assigned to that prospect when I hover over the bubble?
I have 3 departments, each with a value. I want to sort from lowest value to greatest (which I have done) but some departments won't have a value and therefore will have "n/a" in the place of the value. When sorting, "n/a" always comes out as the greatest value but I want "n/a" to be the lowest value - since it means there is no value.
Here is an example of the data: Depts: Value: 580 15.75 558 19.01 538 n/a
Here is the code (sorting is being done on the value obviously, and the switching of the Depts to stay with the value is also done in the code)
Private Sub RankPerformance()
Dim bytValuesArrayCount As Byte Dim A As Byte Dim B As Byte Dim vTemp As Variant 'must be type since value can be number or string ("n/a")
bytValuesArrayCount = UBound(ValuesArray)
The only way I know to do it is to sort using the above code, then do another type of sort if a value is not numeric then it is placed at the end...but I'm trying to make the code as efficient as possible
