In the attached document is a timeline made from a scatter chart. Error bars using custom values are used to show the length of each task, however I can't get the chart to include error bars for the last 2 data points (tasks).
View 1 RepliesI created a bar chart with horizontal (category) labels: winter, spring, summer, fall. Y-axis label is percent. For each category there is data for blk rats, Norway rats, Mice. For each species and category the standard error is different because it is based on several years of data for a given season.
When I try to display the std. error (using custom, fixed value) it treats each species as a series and only lets me choose one value. in other words the std. error would be the same for blk rats in winter, spring, etc. How can I use the individual values?
I am using defined names to build a chart. This is working fine, but I also would like to use a defined name to control the +/- fields for the error bars. The defined names I have set up are correct, and I am able to enter them into the sorce data form but Excel does not display them.

I formatted the x-axis by clearing the check box "Value (Y) axis crosses at maximum category"
If I add the tick mark back in then my first data point does not begin at the origin.

To test my theory on it working I broke it down into parts and ran each separately as I went so I wouldn't have to sift through the whole thing to find an issue when I was finally finished... well I'm finished and it has a random error.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have created an excel file that contains a lot of worksheets which contain a lot of raw data and charts. There are 5 different tabs for 5 different companies. Each tab currently contains only 1 year of raw data for that company. Then I have another excel worksheet that has nothing but charts on it. Each chart is a bar chart that shows each of the 5 companies. It also shows the current rate for the month for each company and the 12 month average for each company. On the chart there are also 3 lines. There is a standard line that we try to meet each month. There is also a line for the upper control limit and a line for the lower control limit. Here is my problem:
The 2 bar charts (current rate for the month & the 12 month average) are created and updated by the raw data in each of the 5 data sheets.
Based upon the values in each of the cells that create and update the bars on the charts themselves:
I want the bars to be RED if the values are below the lower control limit.
And I want the bars to be GOLD if the values are above the upper control limit.
And I want the bars to be green if the values are in between the upper and lower control limits.
I want to do almost exactly this, but when I assign null using "", and plot the result on a graph, the graph thinks that cell is populated with a 0. Let me try to be a bit clearer. I have a range of dates in Col A, and percentages in B and C, but my last 3 dates in Col A have empty cells in B. Cols B and C are separate series. The line graph is (correctly) plotting series C, and series B, whose line stops where there is no more data.
What I need to do now is replace those empty cells with a formula like the one above. Ie, IF(ISBLANK(x1),<null>, <formula>), but using IF(ISBLANK(x1),"", <formula>) doesn't make the line on my graph stop.

I know how to move the shapes automatically, etc. Yet, the big issue I'm encountering is that I can't find a way to get the position of the circled points!
I tried every possible way with GET.CHART.ITEM but the best I get is the top of the bar and not the points inside of it...

First Column = 2011 Headcount
2nd Column = stacked bar with additions (by category) - stepping up from the 2011 total.
3rd Column = stacked bar with reductions (by category) - steppind down from the first column + 2nd colum total.
4th column = 2011 exit (which will be at the same height as the bottom of the 3rd column).
how do I plot the axis data in my graph in an increasing order, when I have my datas in a random order?
In other words, I have bunch of data to be plotted as my x-axis. All numbers are within [0;1], but they all in a random order, like (0.001, 0.923, 0.120, ...). And I want them to be in an increasing order.
Pivot Chart. I would like to set up something to where a user can click on an individual value on a pivot chart (currently a line chart set up with 4 data series) and somehow display some underlying data. I have a lot of information stored in a data worksheet that I can't display all at once, but if a user sees a questionable data point, he/she can click and learn more about it from source data, or even a new query of the data worksheet.

As per example below I want to be able to see all the patients in all areas but only for studies that have patients from the south. I put together an array formula that works well for small tables but is too much with one one my sheets that contains 200,000 rows.

I have a data for sedimentation along a pipe. I measured sediment concentrations at different lengths of the pipe, after different intervals of time. So I have 35 concentration values, take at 5 different points along the pipe, at 7 different times. Is it possible to plot a chart with these 35 points, with depth on y-axis, time on x-axis? These 35 points are percent removals (0-100). .
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a scatter plot from two columns of data; the first, a series of decimals between 0 and 1, the second, a series of percentages between -40 and 140%. Essentially, I'm charting a performance (%) vs. a 'batting average' (decimal between 0 and 1).
However, when I plot these data points, the x-values the chart takes are, I suppose, the relative position of the data within the column (i.e., 5, 9, 32) as opposed to the actual values (.33, .71, .92, etc). I've tried manually selecting the data, copying only the values into different cells...nothing seems to work. Each time, I get points like (11, 61%) instead of the desired (.48, 61%).
Say I have a line graph pic in jpeg. Can I plot the critical points (by clicking) on the line graph plot, so as to be able to get the (x,y) data, and thus, have all the data points to be able to re-produce the charts in XLS?
Basically, in other words, I would like to reproduce the line graph in XLS.
Or has anyone developed this kind of application, or can anyone redirect me to the right direction?
I am attempting to create simple charts to show survey results 2005 v 2006. I have a single series in a bar chart - chart type. The wizard initially makes both bars the same fill color. I right-clicked one of the bars to start the Format Data Series Wizard. On the 5th tab, "Options", I ticked "Vary Colors By Point". A new color was assigned to the top or first bar. So far so good. But instead of these colors, I would like to use a different fill effect for each data point in the series
So I walk through the wizard and desiqn a fill effect and click ok. The fill effect is assigned to both data points. I checked where I had ticked "Vary Colors By Point"
It is still ticked. Can I override this somehow so that each data point can have a unique fill effect?
I'm trying to copy data from one sheet to another sheet automatically based on a number selected in a drop down control.
I have used OFFSET to pull some information successfully from a list. This is easy for me to do with single entries and a list and has worked well. I want to do similar but with a dataset not just single cells.
But, I can't seem to make OFFSET work to show a set of data easily.
Perhaps I will need VB code to do so? Or there is another control I'm not aware of? I've done very little with VB.
I'll attach a sample file to try to show better what I'm trying to do.
I am using the simple conditional format "Data Bar" to make a progress bar, going from 0-1 (0-100%), works fine .5 is halfway...ect. but what i would like it to do is to change to a different colour only when it reaches the 100% or 1 in this case so you can see quickly that this progress is complete.

The last 4 rows of the group of data are subtotal/total rows, followed by an empty row separating this group of data from the next.
I would like the summation to start at the row of my active cell and continue to populate column BI with the running summation of column BE, but stop 5 rows before an empty row at the bottom of the group of data.
I have a database where I would like to plot graphs from data of different periods and different series.
My current method is to go to the data set formulas and changing data range. The tricky part is that I might skip data series because I am selecting the series required for each chart.
How to do plot the different graphs efficiently and quickly.

I want the three stack bars together, for the series 2 & 3 I want them without any gap so I can see how data series 3 is created.
I can't find a way to create a three stack bars chart that don't have the same number of data series, I don't want percentages.
Hi, have a question regarding dynamic charts, specifically I am trying to create several dymanic charts based on data in a single column (So i can only say my first set of data will be starting a a set location in the chart, the rest has to shift down based chart data above it). This data should organized in charts depending on the data in several other columns. For instance, need to pull out values from column based some ID and some PartNumber. A sample excel or VBA would be much appreciated. I know VBA but do not know Excel VBA much.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to compare the frequency of occurrence of multiple unique values within a data set and graph the results as a pareto. I have the formulas working to identify and count the occurrences, and the chart is designed and displaying the data, however I cannot get the graph to display in descending order.
I am unable to sort the data because it is generated from a series of formulas, the returned values of which cannot be sorted. (its hard to describe, see the attached workbook)
I would like to know how I can display the graph so that it shows the bars (primary axis) in descending order (highest value to left, lowest to right) since I cannot sort the data. i.e. For the attached workbook, I want the bars to display in descending number of occurrences: 81,15,5,5,3,3,2,2.
I'm running into a problem when trying to use INDIRECT in combination with Conditional Formatting Data Bars.
Basically I want to show a Data Bar in a certain cell based on the value from another cell.
It would be easy if I could simply copy the value from the other cell across into the cell in which I want to show the data Bar. Unfortunately I cannot do this as the values in the cells where I want to show the Data Bars can change.
As a solution when using Conditional Formatting Data Bars I figured out I can simply do the following:
> Under 'Minimum' use 'Type': Number with 'Value': Zero.
> Under 'Maximum' use 'Type': Formula with 'Value': =INDIRECT("B'&ROW())
This will pick up the value up from column B in the same row.
> In column B i then have this formula: =A1/C1. In C1 i have the percentage that the Data Bar should be using. By dividing the value in A1 with this percentage B1 will return a value that is used for the "Maximum" setting which will then ensure the Data Bar will display correctly.
For example: If A1 value is 4 and C1 value is 25%. Then the formula in B1 will return value 16. The scale used for the Data Bar is then 0 to 16. Seeing the value in A1 is 4 the Data Bar will correctly show 25%. If I then change the value in A1 to say 2 the scale used will change to 0 to 8 and the Data Bar will still be showing 25%, which is exactly what I'm after. So effectively this means a value from another cell is used to work out the Data Bar.
So all is fine up until this point. The problem arises when I want to apply this same logic to the rest of the column.
If I change the 'Applies To' to the range I want it applied to all the "Maximum" will only be based on the top row value. I'd expect cause I'm using the INDIRECT reference with ROW() it would have picked up the values from each individual row. I could create a new CF rule for every row, but that's not practical as there are way too many rows.
Why does the INDIRECT function with ROW() not work in this case? How to make the CF rule copy down properly?
how to control either the X or Y axis error bars for a scatter chart.
I'm building something like a gantt chart and I only want to use the X axis error bars and delete the Y axis bars. I've been able to add error bars by using "ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).HasErrorBars = True" but when i select the error bars using "ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).ErrorBars.Select" the Y axis (Vertical Error Bars) are automatically selected and any formatting I apply is added to the Y axis and left off of the X axis.
Does anyone know how to delete the Y axis error bars and/or choose only the X axis error bars?
I need to create some vertical scatter plots ie where all the y values are in the same line, and also to put on the mean and standard deviation error bars, like the example I found below. I have managed to plot the scatter by giving all the y values in each group the same x value, but I don't know how to proceed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI need to be able to send my selected range of cells (to include: the spreadsheet background, colored cells and all values contained) to Power Point for a daily product. I found this great VBA online and would like to use it but the problem is I keep getting funny results. It doesn't matter what cells I select I keep getting a extra margin on the left side and top of the pasted product in power point. I then have to crop the results... I have looked at the macro (from my noodie eyes) and cannot seem to find a way to adjust this added on margin.
