Data Range For Pivot

Mar 28, 2012

I am trying to create an excel template and record a macro to use a variable set of data and generate a pivot off of it. The data range can can vary from one user to another.

Is there a way, when I record to the marco, to have it select only the range or the set of rows and columns with data in them? I thought about defining the range but how do I tell Excel that the range should only be all cells with data in them. I am looking for a way to do this without VBA or programming.

Pivot Table Change Data Range?

Jan 30, 2012

I have created Pivot Table in "Sheet2" and the source data is in "Report" tab. The source data is in the range of A1:K200 -means until the last cell of the excel. Now if the data is more then this we need to change the source data every time before we refresh the pivot table - Is there any macro or any way so the range can be change automatically ?

Sum Part Of Named Range And Pivot Data

Mar 14, 2012

I have a named range TOT_BUDGET. We use the current month number to access this range's index for current budgets.

=INDEX(TOT_BUDGET,3)

My quandary is that I need to calculate the YTD budget for one of our dashboards. So, I need to get months 1, 2, and 3 and SUM them. Next month I'll need to get 4 months, etc...

I've looked at SUMIF, but it needs to match against some sort of criteria... I don't have any numeric month labels on the budgets page. I cannot figure out what range/array I would match the month number to.

Now, I know the easy way would be to put a month number at the head of each column, reference that array and do the SUMIF. Blech.

Ideally, I would love to just be able to say =SUM(INDEX(TOT_BUDGET, 1-3)). Is there an Excel function that will let me select an array slice?

------------------------------

In addition, we are getting the Total Sales number out of Great Plains via an SQL query. We summarize many accounts using a pivot table. We then access this table by using the GETPIVOTDATA function.

GETPIVOTDATA("NETCHANGE",TSALES,"FISCALYEAR",CurrYear,"FISCALPERIOD",CurrMo)

Again, how can I do a total YTD?

Is there a way I can do something similar to a foreach loop in the cell formula? I'd like to avoid macroland with this if possible.

Pivot Table - Automatically Expand Range Selection Of Data

Oct 12, 2002

Possible to get a pivot table to automatically expand the range selection of data as it grows. I have a worksheet that grows daily and I am running a pivot table from this. If I refresh the pivot table it doesn't pick up new data unless i change the range or i have a huge range selected in the first place. Problem is if i select a huge range then the grouping options i am using won't work correctly.

Combined VLOOKUP With A Date Range SUMIF From Pivot Table Data?

Feb 13, 2014

I have a report I am attempting to populate with data from a pivot table in another worksheet. Column A holds all the reference numbers (primary key), column B contains various start dates, and I want column C to contain all the payments made since the start date for each reference number.

The source data is a pivot table with Row = Reference number, column = transaction date, values = transaction amounts. This is an extremely large table, as I'm processing data from almost 1,200 cases, which each have around 20 payments spread over the last year, on completely random days. What I would like to do is build a formula in my report which looks up the records for the reference number from column A, and then adds up all the payments which have been made after the date in column B (and ignore any payments in the table which are before that date).

And to make things more complicated:

if an error is generated, it needs to return as 0, not #N/AThe report has the dates in UK format dd/mm/yyyy, but the pivot table has the dates in SQL format: yyyy-mm-ddThe pivot table is connected to a SQL database via ODBC and has to refresh every time it is opened.

=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A2,'Transactions'!$A$2:$B$1194,2,FALSE)),0,VLOOKUP(A2,'Transactions'!$A$2:$B$1194,2,FALSE))

VBA - Change Data Source Of Pivot Table With Range Changing Based On Cell Value?

Mar 5, 2013

I have the following code to update a pivot table:

Code:
Dim pt As PivotTable
Application.EnableCancelKey = xlDisabled
For Each pt In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("sheet1").PivotTables
pt.ChangePivotCache ActiveWorkbook.PivotCaches.Create _
(SourceType:=xlDatabase, SourceData:="source!R4C1:R33443C55" _

Next pt

the R33443 term is what will be changing, the columns and the starting row should stay the same. is there a way to instead of using R33443, to enable the range to be changed based on a cell value?

Change Pivot Source Data In Multiple Pivot Tables?

Jan 21, 2013

I have a single workbook with multiple worksheets. Each worksheet has a different pivot table displaying a different view of the data. Each pivot table uses the same source data at worksheet1.

Each week i add new data to the end of the source data, which means that I need change the source data reference separately in each pivot table to update each pivot table view to include the new data. This is laborious as there are quite a few pivot tables.

Was wondering if there is some way of changing the pivot table source data reference on all pivot tables at the same time.

Auto-filtering Pivot Based On Data Contained In Another Pivot?

Sep 5, 2013

I've attached some dummy data. Basically, everyday I'm going to dump a report containing data into a 'Data Dump' tab. 'Pivot 1 - Filtered' I have set up so that it will show specific product IDs only (In this example I only want to see 1X, 2X and 9D).

However, I now have a need to see the total value of that order number in 'Pivot 2 - Autofilter'. (For Example, order number 1111 has both 1X and 8D contained within it). Now obviously the simple thing to do would be to filter every order number shown in pivot 1, and filter pivot 2 with them. However when I'm doing this for real, this can be tens/hundreds of order numbers.

The only workaround I have found is to put a column at the side using VLOOKUP and if ISERROR is false then include in pivot, then used an autofilter on that, but I'd like to keep the normal pivot if possible.

Pivot Table - Referencing Different Data In Same Pivot

Mar 18, 2013

I manage a team that quote for business. They are targetted on number of quotes per month but then also wins per month, however a win may come a number of months after the original quote was generated.

They work off a spreadsheet where they log:

Quote date (And month)
Quote Value
... customer info etc

Win month (against orginal quote information)
Win value (against orginal quote information)

I started writing my pivot using the Quote month as the main reference point, IE Quote Month in the Row, and then put all the data in the central drop data section... However, there are two immediate problems with this:

They are targetted on quotes generated per month, some business won has come from last year, which they are lifting from the old spreadsheet and puttin in my new one... meaning that quotes they generated in Oct 2012 are now showing up as quotes for October this year.

If the wins span a number of months they are showing in January (if quoted in January) and not in March (when actually won)

Is there a better way of writing my pivot table??? There must be... ideally what I would like is half the table referencing the Quote date and half referencing the order date... but I don't know how to do this? I could probably do this with pages but I would like to show all on one sheet...

I was hoping that then when i go to data > Pivot table and it asks for the range i could put =Data but it tells me that the range is invalid. I have attached a copy at the bottom.

Excel 2010 :: Pivot Table Reference Is Not Valid When Moving Data And Pivot Table Together?

Mar 19, 2013

On a worksheet, I created:

- a list of data
- a pivottable based on these data

When moving this worksheet this worksheet to another workbook, the pivot table can't refresh anymore. This throws an error message "Reference is not valid". To work around this problem I need to adapt the datasource. The same occurs if the list and the pivot table are on separate sheet, with the added strange behaviour that, when data an PT are split, it is not possible to move both sheet together.

This would not be a big issue if my problem had to be solved manually. The real problem is that I need to move the sheets from a C# program.

How To Get Range In Pivot Table

Apr 29, 2014

I have a pivot table summarizing a lot of weight data on the product that we make. I have the actual weight and the specification weight, and a calculated field for the % over or under weight.

What I want is also a pivot column to show the range of weights for each product code. I have added a column (calculated) giving the weight difference (in gm) but when I collapse to summarise for each product it gives the sum of the differences. I think that the best thing may be to use an array formula on the source data table in order to give the range but I have not tried that yet.

Pivot Table Sum On Value Range

Dec 27, 2013

I have a data management issue that I have been able to resolve using SUMIFs and a custom table, but not in pivot form. Since the data source is a SQL database, I would prefer to resolve the issue in pivot form so that future values chart correctly. The data is formatted as so:

Job
Day Start
Day End
Size
Project

1
1/1/2014
1/10/2014
10
A

[Code] ......

From that data I want to see the total size of projects active at the start of the week for the past year. This would essentially mean summing the size of the projects if the week start date lies between the day start and end. This is what I ended up with:

Year
Month
Week
Weekday Start
Active Size

2014
1
1
1/1/14
10

[Code] .....

This is the associated pivot chart:

This would be "OK" except that I would also like to see the size breakdown by project, like this:

This is where I would need the data to be handled purely in a pivot so that when a new project is added, the pivot table will automatically make the summing column for it rather than my manual creation of columns for the data.

I have uploaded a link to a work book with the examples of the data and how I made the charts above. You can see that to make the second chart I had to manually create the columns for each project:

Download PivotExample.xlsx from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way.

Pivot Table - Using A Dynamic Range

Jan 6, 2009

Because my pivot table is used by several users the data source changes often. In response, I created and applied a dynamic range using the offset formula. While the pivot talbe grabs the correct # of records, it inserts a blank column and row. There are NOT any blank cells in the data source range, as reflected by pivot table counts for the Blank column and Row. Any idea why Blank is showing up in my pivot table and how I can correct while maintaining the dynamic range?

Use Dynamic Range In Pivot Table

Dec 21, 2007

Im trying for the first time to use a dynamic range as the 'source' for a pivot table. The pivot table and the source data are in two different tabs. The source data is on tab Log! and i have used Daves formula (i hope correctly) to define the dynamic range. The range starts at Column B and is 22 columns wide:

Refers to:=OFFSET(Log!$B$1,0,0,MATCH(""*"",Log!$B:$B,-1),22)

I have named this dynamic range DMR. I have a pivot table on another tab. When i try to use DMR as the source (Log!DMR), it gives me an error "Reference is Not Valid". I must have the syntax wrong somewhere.

Pivot Table Fields Expands Automatically When Updating Data (only Where Data Has Been Changed)

Jan 11, 2013

I have created a pivot table that is connected to an input sheet with data. The input sheet retrieves data automatically from a external source through an add-in to Excel. When updating data the fields expands, but only for the items which have been changed. I want the table to be updated automatically, but not the fields expand automatically. Is there any pivot options to prevent this problem?

It should be mentioned that the pivot table is not directly connected to the input sheet (which is updated from the external source), but from a "help-sheet" reflecting the input sheet with some additional columns. I use conditional formatting and name range in the pivot.

Excel 2013 :: Pivot Table Compare Current Data With Refresh Data And Format New Values?

Jun 18, 2014

vba in excel 2013 pivot table that updates from an online CRM rows are a to h and it can be any number of rows. What I am trying to do is track progress. In column f values indicate probability for success 10 25 45 90, which can go up or down. The pivot table is refreshed to get the latest values from CRM. the update is handled by a connection to the crm not in the vba.

So far I been researching methods to conditionally format values that went up, down or remained the same since the last refresh with up down and across arrows. I have managed to piece together what I think should work but alas it is not. So I have come to you internet.

My code first clears any formatting and goes down the column avoiding null or empty cells, comparing the values in column f to values in column j.
I have 3 conditions greater than, less than or equal to, and would like add an icon for each based on the result of the comparison.

Finally when it finishes the column the code copies the current values in the pivot table column f to column j outside the pivot table which i hope to be able to hide once the cf works. The code is below
