Show Missing Values In Pivot Chart (line Chart) Axis?
Apr 18, 2013How can I add missing values to the axis in a pivot chart line chart? I have a numerical X-axis with values such as 0,1,5,8,14, etc. I have another set of Y values that correspond to the X values. If this was an XY-scatter plot I'd be able to plot X vs. Y and connect the dots for "gaps" in the X values. Since it's a pivot chart I cannot use an XY-scatter plot, I can only use a line chart. The line chart doesn't give me the ability to add the "missing" values, so it gives the impression that my data is more closely packed than it is. The data source is external to my spreadsheet, so I cannot add the values before creating the pivot table/chart.

Nov 2, 2012I have 2 columns of dates on which 2 separate events occur, e.g columns 1 is dates of receiving incoming calls (and there can be multiple incoming calls , so there are multiple rows with same date) and the other column is dates of outgoing calls (same deal of having multiple rows with same date, each row = 1 outgoing call). I want to plot both as line graphs and find out where they intersect , each one peaks and tapers.

Display Average Line On Chart
Jun 19, 2008I have a dynamic Named Ranges called ChartData containing 4 values from 4 cells on the row selected. I have a chart using this Named Ranges so that the value displayed are always referring to the current row. This works fine. I created a second Named Ranges ChartAvg which is =AVERAGE(ChartData) that I project to use in the Chart. However, I need to have 4 time the same value (average) if I want to display a line in the chart.
My problem is: I don't want (and can't) enter the Named Ranges ChartAvg in 4 cells to use in the chart. I wish to create a 3rd Named Ranges called ChartAvgData that would be used in the Chart. So now, to my question : How to create a Named Ranges that is a list of (4) values, somethine like: {ChartAvg,ChartAvg,ChartAvg,ChartAvg}
This is not working, whereas {1,2,3,4} (for example) works fine.
Excel 2003 :: Pivot Chart Displaying Added Values?
May 31, 2012I'm using Windows XP with MS Excel 2003. I have a pivot table representing a survey. Let's say I've built the survey outside of excel and I've imported the response data into Excel. One of the questions in the survey is "ratings" and the possible valid responses for it is: "Excellent", "Good", or "Poor". In my data set in excel let's say I have 10 responses or rows and all the responses for the question on ratings are either "Excellent" or "Good". (There are no rows with a "Poor" value in the ratings column).
For example, let's say out of the 10 responses, 6 are "Excellent" and 4 are "Good". As such my Pivot chart shows two bars: one for the number of respones with "Excellent" (10) and another bar for the number of responses with "Good" (4). My delima is how to show a third bar showing "Poor" with a zero as the number of responses.
Pivot Table With Dynamic, Updatable Chart, But Not A Pivot Chart!
Dec 19, 2008My boss wants me to design a dynamic, updatable chart in Excel 2003. I initially made a Pivot Chart based on a Pivot Table which worked perfectly, but it doesn't look professional enough when printed (or viewed) and she wants me to approach it a different way.
So, I created a graph based on the data in a Pivot Table, and used dynamic ranges as the source for the graph series so that the chart updates when the criteria fields are changed for the Pivot Table. I then added two combo boxes (ie data validation lists) to the Chart sheet, and wrote VBA code so that whenever the combo box values are changed, the Criteria fields for the Pivot Table on the 2nd sheet are updated accordingly, and this in turn causes the graph to be updated as well.
This solution also worked perfectly, but now I've been told to create the graph without macros.
Does anyone have any suggestions? The requirements/details are as follows:
1. The Pivot Table is on sheet "PIVOT", and the graph is on sheet "GRAPH"
2. The Pivot Table has two criteria - School Name and Year Level
3. On sheet "GRAPH" there are two data-validated fields, School and Year, which only allow the selection of valid Schools and Year Levels
Is there any way to make the Pivot Table update when values are changed in the fields on the CHART sheet so that the chart also updates, but without using code nor a Pivot Chart?
Excel 2010 :: Add Pie Chart Into Data Point Marker On Line Chart
Nov 27, 2011I am looking for a creative way to display a pie chart within a data point marker of a line chart.
My database has 3 value columns, Type1, Type2 and the Total (Type1 + Type2)
these are recorded per day (Date, in Column A)
I have a line chart that displays the total by date, but I want to find a way to display the percentage split of a particular day by type.
I was thinking to load the chart image into the Data point marker, but i don't think that is the best way as the data is updated daily and I would have to do it each day for a few line charts.
The other way I was thinking about was to have a generic Pie chat in the Line chart (Maybe in a corner) and the pie would update depending on way date series was selected or Mouseover'd)
the way that I am approaching it at the movement (Not the best way and by far not the coolest way. Is to have a list of all the dates in a column next to the Line chart and using some VBA, what ever date is selected in the column the pie chart displays the corresponding data. But eh challenge is that when there is alot of dates, I am going to be scrolling up and down.
I am using Excel 2010, but I cant not use the slicer's as the other users do not have 2010, they have 2007.

The part which I seem not to be able to complete is getting the line chart secondary axis to read from the primary y axis. Mar 21, 20071) i have office 2003 on a laptop. within powerpoint, i can create a 'microsoft excel chart 11' object. to create a link to the excel data source, do i have to go through the odbc sql setup? it works, but i don't want my powerpoint to be dependent on some excel file somewhere. what are the other options to insert/make a functional pivot chart in powerpoint with the data also within powerpoint? the data as sheet option does not result in the chart being a pivot, it's just a plain chart. it has to be a proper object, not an image paste or a chart that updates links with the excel file open.
2) i have office 2007 on my other laptop. i can not find any suitable object to choose from to make a pivot chart in powerpoint. what's the best way to go about in 2007 version?
3) am i going about this the wrong way with the objects? should i be after vba code?
Overlay Line Chart On Top Of Stacked Column Chart?
Feb 15, 2012I am trying to overlay a line chart on top of a stacked column chart. The stacked column chart is a chart where the x axis is dates and the y axis is amount. The line chart is a projected amount that I will reach in few years; the x axis is the date while the y axis is an amount. I can get a chart that has a line and stacked columns, but ever time, the dates get messed up. The line has an extremely wide date range while the columns only have about a month of data.

Jan 22, 2008Is there a way to display only the current month and the past 11 months in a Line Chart in Excel? So if I was to print Jan 2008 Excel graph, it would only display Feb 2007 - Jan 2008 data charting.
The spreadsheet of the data contains data for Jan 2005 - Jan 2008 so far, but only the current month with the past 11 months should display in the line chart depending on what is the current month.
XML Chart Not Displaying
Dec 19, 2009I have an XML file which I can open in Excel as an XML table. When I try to insert a chart from any of the data, a chart appears but the data appears as the legend but not as any lines on the chart. The column headings, which would normally appear as the legend, do not appear. The chart itself is blank. Does anyone have any ideas of a way to solve this?

Basically this is for better visual appearance. When I add a 0 to the table, it skews the alignment of the line chart with the corresponding bar chart.

Jun 8, 2014I have a workbook, which I use for different departments that displays a number of different pie charts and I have found that a particular pie chart omits a specific label repeatedly. The pie chart displays the wedge within the chart itself, but does not display the label. At the moment I have data labels with percentages. All other labels display, of which there are 7. I found a solution that fixes the problem each time it arises and that is to select Chart Tools/Format/Series 1 data labels and then Format Selection. When I then select any data label, I click on "Clone Current Label" and the missing label appears with the correct percentage amount. I use the workbook for multiple uses and rather than have it present as a template (*.xltm), it is a macro-enabled spreadsheet (*.xlsm). Could this be related to the problem?

Dec 15, 2007I can create a column chart in excel comparing sales in 06 v's 07 for each month in 07, what I'm aiming to show on the chart is how sales have grown or not over a comparative period. A simple enough graph, I end up with about 24 columns (2 for each month and then a gap between each month).
I now want a line chart to show the performance of an index over the same time period, lets say the FTSE100.
I don't know how to get the line chart under the columns on the same graph, using the same x-axis with a small y-axis to the left. I could propably figure out the y-axis bit if I could only get the line chart below the columns.

Jan 7, 2014I'm attaching a worksheet I'm having trouble with. Each entry has a total number of LINES (input by hand), a total amount of TIME (calculated by formula), a total number of CAPTIONS (input by hand), and a total amount of TIME2 (calculated by formula). I created a pivot table so I could see these four values by date, and also so I could see totals when I filter by other criteria such show names. But in the pivot table all the values come up as one-digit numbers. In the worksheet the LINES and CAPTIONS are usually 3-digit numbers, and the TIME and TIME2 are set up to display in H:MM format, but in the pivot table they don't appear that way at all.
The other option is to just use the filters in the table on the worksheet, but when I filter anything out the grand totals at the end of the table do not adjust, they continue to show the overall grand totals. Perhaps if I could get these totals to adjust whenever I use the filters, then I wouldn't need a pivot table.

Nov 1, 2006I am trying to graph the following data in an area chart with line charts superimposed on the area chart. I have a lot of data (and a lot going on) so I'm trying to figure out the best way to show this in excel from a functional standpoing (i can't get this to work in excel!!) to also an asthetic standpoint (dont want it to look terrible or illegible). This is what I'm trying to chart:
1) Weather data (temperature) by region:
So one region, would be: Northwest
I would like the "area" (so a shaded region) to be the min/max of the temperature data for each month.
2) I would like to show the temperature for each year as a line graph on the chart - so you can see if a year falls in or out of the shaded region.
3) I would like to show a company's sales increases across the same months per year as separate line charts. I may choose to just show the biggest outlier year in the end... or to show 2006 (the latest data).
What I am trying to convery with the chart is that the company's sales is or is not tied to weather deviations. I have attached an excel file with the data. I haven't been able to use the area chart or get a two axis chart to work or get it to look even remotely professional.

drills through a lot of key figures, updates a pivot chart and copies the chart to powerpoint.
However it crashes on one particular data set every time with this error:

Pivot Table Is Displaying 1/29/14 For Every Cell In Particular Data Field That Is Blank
Jan 23, 2014On my data tab I've got a column for "review date." Some of those cells are blank. When you go to the pivot table, the respective cell for that blank.review date cell displays the date 1/29/14. There is no data in the cell on the data tab, so why would it be displaying 1/29/14? I want it to either say "blank" or just be blank. It does this for every review date cell that is blank.

I would need to use this small code in Charts with different Scales as some of the Scales in my Data are in a very large Range close to Trillions so its not possible to have these as the Primary-Y-Axis Scale and therefore I would need to use the in-built Display label option which Excel provides..
However, I always prefer to have the scale in the Range of Thousands so the Max I can have in the Scale can be 10,000 so if there is any Number more than that or the Scale is going above than I would prefer that this gets auto-calculated to Multiply with the remainder and show appropriate Scaling.
For Ex:In this example My largest Number is 4500000000 which is 100 M..So I would want the scale to show 4500 and the Display label as X Millions..
So The Display Label would be different for different Ranges but the Max Scale preffered would be 10,000.
Stacked Column With Average Line On Secondary Axis?

I have tried moving it to a secondary axis but then it keeps changing the graph to show only the average.
