I have used MS Office Excel 2003 for many years without difficulty in XP. Suddenly I find I can't open many of my old documents. I get a message,"Microsoft Office (InfoPath2003) cannot open (the following file, etc.) A second message says, "The form contains XML that is not parsed: An invalid character was found in the content. Line 0, Position 0" Then I get the message "MS Office is not currently set as default." I complete the instructions that follow and it is now corrected but I continue to get the same error messages.
I am having problems opening Excel documents on first try. If I double click a excel doc icon it will start excel, hang for about a minute and a half then just display a excel blank doc. If I then go back to the original doc icon with excel still open and double click it again the document appears.
I have MS Office 2010 Home Edition. Is there a way to make 2 different Excel docs show up on 2 different monitors at the same time (one on each, of course)? (I have a PC and 2 displays total.)
Some of my Excel files work perfectly in terms of undo/redo, while others simply cannot use that feature. I took a stroll through the internet looking for the answer, but the issues that I found seemed to point to the application losing its ability, which was resolved with a registry edit/update/change. I don't think that's the case here because I CAN undo is SOME documents.
After some investigation with my problem documents I have found that THIS Macro is the one thing all my undo-free documents have in common: [URL]
I have about 600 Word Documents that contains information about clients. Each Word document file name is the name of the client. Example. Tom Smith. I wanted to be able to highlight all 600 word documents and paste them into Excel, so that I can press Ctrl-F to find what ever name it is I'm looking for, then click the name and the word document open. Is this possible?
How I can merge multiple word documents based on checkboxes selected on Excel.
Specifically, I have some 75 checkboxes found on Column F with linked cells on Column G (for example, checkbox1 place on Cell F1 linked to Cell G1). Each of the checkboxes have a corresponding Word document (containing text and tables about 1 to 4 pages in length). Based on what checkboxes are selected, I'd like to have those corresponding Word documents merge together and create an entirely new Word file (for sake of order, the datapoints from each selected Word document should be placed at the beginning of a new page in the new file).
The user will eventually name and save the new file on their own.
I'm not familiar with the required code as well as where it should be placed (whether on the excel file that contains the checkboxes, on the individual word documents that are eligible to be merged, or parsed out on all files).
Basically I have manually generated word documents based on a spreadsheet. Now, I need to countercheck the contents of the word documents with another spreadsheet i.e. make sure the courses in the word document for a particular student is same as that reflected on the spread sheet. Is it possible to write a macro for this? I'm a beginner and I'm waaay out of my depth. I have attached sample documents and spreadsheets.
The link to the documents are as follows: Macro to check data from Word documents against an excel spread sheet
I am tired of copy and paste from one excel workbook to other workbook. How can I set up an automatic retrieve from one excel workbook to other excel workbook?
I was curious if Excel was able to pull information off websites and automatically populate a table such as items from Safeway and a price then another column for Walmart with same item and price? I am betting not on its own but I figured this was the best place to ask since I am trying to find an easier way to find savings at the store.
Is it possible to retrieve an arrary of the autofilter criteria. I know this is possible in pre 2007 but with 2007 onwards I can't find a way of doing it.
I know I can get all the available items in a list by using the scripting.dictionary and also by using the visible cells I could see what could be filtered but that is not really accurate for what I want.
E.G.
If I have multiple columns and look at the filtered information in one column I can retrieve an array of the visible cells from that column but that is not necessarily the criteria that is in the column. i.E. If another column has a filter rows may be filtered that would have otherwise been visible.
How can we "read" information from the VBE Error Trapping options (Break on All Errors/ Break in Class Module/ Break in Unhandled Errors) programmatically?
Background: I am developping a spreadsheet that needs to be sent around to distant users. Some of them might not have the default "Break on Unhandled Errors" setting), which would just make my programme fail or risk to fail...
This issue has been covered in the thread below, but the proposed solution doesn't work on my side (always returning the same output!): [URL] .....
Hint: it has been suggested to look into the registry, which the linked post does.
Ideally, I would love to be able to change the setting programatically, but that seem near to impossible in excel 2007 VBA (unless calling an external programme that closes and restarts excel after having changed the option?...)
Excel macro to retrieve some valid data from one sheet to another which has some values.
Description;- I have made an excel sheet for daily stock details which contains data like stock in, out, daily production for various products. I have made a menu which contains button of stock in, out and production, and one sheet for current stock where I enter In and out. I wand a macro when I click the button from the main menu it gives me all the production details taking from one sheet and past it in different sheet in the same workbook but it should not give the details of those products which does not have and production.
ColA and ColB contains a standard information which is supossed to be my reference. ColC contains my queries for which I need information about their place in ColD.
So I need to match ColC with ColA, so as to retrieve the matched data (between ColC and ColA) from ColB to ColD. Following is the way I expect my result to be..
ColA ColB ColC ColD

I received an answer in that link
"=INDEX($B$2:$B$6,MATCH($C2,$A$2:$A$6,0))",
Which when tried, surely worked a few months back. I am now using excel 2010. I tried the same again, but this time it does not work for me. Is there something else to do which has been changed in the new excel 2010 ?
Excel 2010, Windows 8.1. I want to retrieve a photo from a folder and paste it into a cell. I have the paste and format process figured out but I'm having trouble putting the file path together to retrieve the photo. If I use the full path, the statement below retrieves "IMAG1234.jpg" and puts it where I want it.
Column A = Date Column B = Value 1 Column C = Value 2
I have a folder with excel files named by date (e.g. 081212 = 8th December 12). Within each of those files is Value 1 and Value 2. They are always in the same cell (B6= Value 1, B16= Value 2).
How can i create a macro/script where the Values in Column B and Column C in my spreadsheet are automatically updated where there is a Date in Column A but no values in Column B or C?
In other words, i need the script to read the date in Column A and if Column B and Column C are blank, then it needs to find the corresponding date excel file and copy Value 1 and Value 2 into the cells in my spreadsheet.
I have an Excel 2003 file that contains hyperlinks to OneNote notebooks on a Sharepoint site. An Excel macro looks for these links and determines the full hyperlink address which is then assigned to a variable. An Outlook message is generated which includes the hyperlinks.
The hyperlinks work in the Excel file. I can also copy them from OneNote and manually paste them into an Outlook message and they work. However, when I obtain their full address and transfer that to the email through code, the links do not work. The hyperlink address from OneNote starts with "onenote:http" which is not recognized as a link.
If I can do this manually, there must be a way to do this with vba. Are there characters I need to include in the OneNote hyperlink address to make this work? Is there another way to transfer the working link from Excel to Outlook?
I have created a userform with multipage, has two page that add new record in a excel sheet. Data has a unique reference no.(TxtRef.Value) for each record. I am trying to add a button to load the added data for a specific record using reference no back to userform so that it can be updated and overwrite back to the sheet in the same row, So far it is adding new record correctly. I do not know how to populate all the fields of the of an existing record and overwrite it back to the same row instead of adding a new record. Below is my codes
In Excel 2003 I have Manually Grouped a number of rows. (Data>Group and Outline>Group).
If I use the buttons with the numbers 1, 2, 3 (indicating an outlining level) to collapse or expand the outline I receive the Error Message: "Cannot shift objects off sheet."
If I use the collapse button (-) or expand (+) button the data collapses and expands as I would expect.
I am aware of the normal issues surrounding objects and outlining and have ensured that I have changed the properties of all my of the objects in the sheet to "Move and size with cells". There are no comments in the grouped rows.
The following formula was, several weeks ago, very graciously offered to me from one of Excel Forum's contributors.
=SUMPRODUCT(--(MOD(ROW(E8:E6782),2)=0),E8:E6782)
My request was to find a formula that would add each 6th row starting in row e8 (e8+e14+e20+e26+e32 etc. through e6782) in column "e" when the column was 6782 rows deep from top to bottom. (i am not trying to add every number in column e, just each 6th row, starting at e8 and going through row e6782).
I entered the formula into my spread sheet and, voila, I had a sum that I assumed was accurate for my spread sheet of ticket sales. I began to question the functionality of the formula when I altered the E8:E6782 parameters (which represented the gross ticket sales) to E4:E6778, in an effort to sum up the E4 values e4,e10,e16, e22,e28,etc. . . (which represents the net values after commissions were deducted). The difference in the two sums (e8 values Versus the e4 values) was incorrect and did not represent the appropriate commissions (which should have been 15%).
I have a Log In/Log Out report that I need pulling data from.
Ultimately what I want to do is get the amount of time my employees were logged out.
I am using Excel 2003. Attached is an example of the data I'm working with.
Sheet 1 contains the data, and Sheet 2 will be the summary.
So, looking at Bob's times: If column A contains Bob (A2 in this case), and the same row in column G (G2) contains 79, subtract the contents of the same row in column F (F2) from the next row down in column D (D3) (which would be D3 - F2). That result should populate on Sheet 2 next to Bob's name in h:mm:ss format.
If there is nothing in the next row down in column D, then do nothing.
I would like to leave the data as is, if possible. There are extension numbers next to the names in the data. If possible to ignore those when rolling up to the summary that would be useful. Also, on the summary sheet, if the employee is not on the data sheet (if they had the day off) they can have 0 or NA or something to indicate there is no data for them.
In Excel 2003 the Status Bar is missing. I know to go to Tools, Options, View to view and hide the Status Bar however as i cannot see Tools (as Status Bar missing) is there another way to get the Status Bar back?
