Excel 2003 :: Cannot Adjust Row Height Beyond Certain Limit
Sep 23, 2011
I have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet. I cannot increase the row length beyond 548 pixels or 409.5. And similarly, there is one column that I cannot increase beyond 1788 pixels or 254.71 . Now, I can increase the size of rows via going to print preview and editing the margins, but it merely shrinks the size of the paper and I cannot re-expand it to fit.

way to get Excel to automatically expand the cell height when the text becomes to long to display. Is there something I am missing that will accomplish this, or do I need to write some VBA that will make the cell larger once the character limit that will fit on one row is exceeded?

I have a userform with a listbox set to a range of numbers from 1-10, I would like my userform to expand/collapse dependant on the number within the listbox. The problem I am having is the forms height does not adjust from using the toggle controls only when you select back into the listbox itself.
Private Sub ListBox1_Change()
If Me.ListBox1.Value = 1 Then
Me.Height = 180
End If
If Me.ListBox1.Value = 2 Then
Me.Height = 210
End If
If Me.ListBox1.Value = 3 Then
Me.Height = 240
End If
End Sub
I have tried using click/after change events however I get the same response. Am I missing something from my code or should I be using another control (SpinButton for instance).

Is there a way to get cells in a column to adjust their height automatically, or with a macro to account for text overflow/wrap?
For example, lets say a column is 200 px in width and it's height is enough to view a single line of text, and the column is set to wrap text. Now more text is entered into the cell and it needs to be re-sized to fit two lines of text.
Is there a way to create a macro button to have this done automatically?

I have an area in my spreadsheet (the current region surrounding cell G6) in which the height for each row should not exceed a specified limit (say, 150). It's okay if the row height is less than the limit - these rows should be left alone. I only want to resize those that exceed the defined row height limit.
Is there a simple way to reset the row height for rows whose height exceeds a specified maximum row height limit?

Row totals exceed the limit for Excel 2003, so I have split the data into different worksheets by year.
Problem is, now I can't create a useful pivot table, i.e. using 'multiple consolidation ranges' reduces the field list to "Row", "Column", and "Value".
I have 26 columns in each worksheet (all identical structures); some are multilevel factors, some are variables - and the way these relate to each other is unknown as this stage, so I literally cannot have the dimensions reduced in the way Excel proposes with multiple consolidation ranges.

Finding the Column with the MAX Height in comparison with other Columns of UNEVEN Height
I need two things :
1. I have several columns starting from Column B till Column F, each column having values starting from the third ROW.
Ex:-
Lets say Column B contains two values in B3 and B4, Col C three values in C3 C4 and C5, Col D four values D3,D4,D5 and D6, Col E two values in E3 and E4, Column F five values F3,F4,F5,F6 and F7.
So, the answer is F3:F7.
2.I am using 10^{4,3,2,1,0} in a particular portion of a formula, Now the number of elements in the array or in the Curly Braces depends on the number of Columns filled from Column B as explained in the Point 1.
Now, since I have five columns under consideration I have this order as mentioned here {4,3,2,1,0} , I would like to know whether I could make this dynamic, as in if there were only four columns then this would be {3,2,1,0} and if more this array could self-fill and expand..
If that's possible, then how do we use it in the formula, Is it by the virtue of the INDIRECT function?

I am running Excel 2010. On a sheet that I have previously used many times, I select all, and set row height to 30. In the past, that has made the sheet fit nicely on one page. Nothing has been changed in the content or number of rows, but all of a sudden the result leaves me with a sheet that takes more than one page to print. It is almost like the number entered is being defined by some new unit of measurement.

I want to set the default row height as 20.0 (not excel's standard 15.0). When I delete the contents in a cell that has Wrap Text property enabled, the row always reverts back to default height of 15.0 and this is too small. Is there a way to chnage the default?

We just upgraded to Office 2010 and now on many of my regular Excel files, when I open them in the new version, the last row that's visible in the window ends up with some massively huge row height such that you can't even page down past it.
I can resolve it easily by clicking on the row number and re-sizing it, but I'm getting tired of doing that.
What's wrong with Excel 2010?

Excel 2010; I am setting row heights on the basis of some parameters. I have the following statement;
If targetCell.Value = "Photo Comment: " Then
targetCell.RowHeight = 185
But what I really want is to recognize only the phrase;
"Photo Comment:" in a text string that might be much longer e.g,
"Photo Comment: The photo above depicts yata, yata.........."
So, I want to recognize the first 14 character as "Photo Comment:" and then have the row height adjust to 185. So it involves "Left" and "Len" (I'm thinkin') but the syntax is beyond me.

I have data in a sheet in Excel 2007 that I am trying to move to another sheet in the same workbook.
I am using Vlookup to move the info from one sheet to the other.
However it seems that if the data in the original sheet cell is too large I get a #VALUE! error.
If I copy and paste the info from the cell it is fine.
How do I copy the information (hyperlink) in the original sheet cell to the destination sheet cell?
Here is the formula that I am using.
=HYPERLINK(VLOOKUP(A67,'verified1-4-12'!B:E,4,0))
verified1-4-12 is the original sheet name

where to find a spreadsheet which has a macro to perform the FFT on data with > 4096 points? It seems Excel's internal FFT is limited to this amount. I searched the forum and elsewhere on web and have not found what I am looking for. I wish to enter the data in a column of the spreadsheet, preferably in a named range such as "Data" and have a macro perform the FFT.

Is there a way I can get excel (2007) to limit itself to 2 decimal places for all numbers entered? So effectively I don't want use the formulas TRUNC or ROUND (or any other formula) but I would like rather excel to behave like my calculator where I can limit the decimals to 2 no matter how many I input.
In other words, every time a input a number, excel will round it up automatically to 2 decimal places and the number available will have 2 decimals only. Is there any option hidden somewhere in the Excel options that I couldn't find?

I am suffering with split a long descriptions into 3 cells with criteria 1st cell not more than 30 characters, 2nd cell not more than characters and 3rd cell will locate the remaining characters there. I think this is quite easy if I use LEN/MID/RIGHT/LEFT formula. However, I wish the formula will smart enough to split word by word. refer to example below:-
"My lecturer replied, that i really did very bad in final, nothing's gonna change my plan."
If I use left(A1,30) formula, the result is "My lecturer replied, that i re"however, the word "really" is cut half way. I am finding the formula that split description to not more than 30 characters and won't cut my string and become incomplete word. Expected result should be 1st cell "My lecturer replied, that i", then "really did very bad in final," at 2nd cell.

I have an Excel file that is 590 MB and Excel is telling me that since there are over 1,048,576 rows in this file (which I understand is the row limit for Excel 2010), it will only open partially, up to that row amount.
Excel suggested I open up the file in Word, but that has been unsuccessful - Word gives me error messages and won't open the file. I've also tried converting the file to .rtf and .odt, but again, that doesn't work.
Is there any way to break this excel file down? I'm assuming that whoever created it could not have made the document more than 1,048,576 rows, if that is Excel's limit, but maybe I am wrong. The document is in date order from 2008 to 2011, but only 2008 will show, and I know the later years exist. It doesn't matter to me which program this file opens with, I just need the data.

I am trying to create multiple pivot tables from the same pivotcache using VBA. The data range is approximately 270,000 records with 100 columns. When I run the macro, I get "Run-time error '-2147352567 (80020009)' Method 'Add' of object 'PivotCaches' failed". Is there a size limit on the data? If there is less than 65,000 records, it works great; if I use a wizard, it works with no problems with the full dataset. If I bring the data in as an Access table, it can work with some tweaking of the code, but the size of the file is huge because each pivot is taking its own snapshot of the data. I also can only create 3 tables before it runs out of memory, so I have to stop, save the file, and open it back up to create 3 more pivots.
Dim WSD As Worksheet
Dim PTCache As PivotCache
Dim PT As PivotTable
Dim PRange As Range
Dim FinalRow As Long
[Code] .........
The last line is where I am getting the error. I am running XP, Excel 2007.
As I said, if I import an Access table, I can use the code:
ActiveWorkbook.PivotCaches.Create(SourceType:=xlDatabase, SourceData:= _
"Table_Pivot_test.accdb[#All]", Version:=xlPivotTableVersion12). _
CreatePivotTable TableDestination:="", TableName:=txtPivotTableName, DefaultVersion:=xlPivotTableVersion12
And loop, but the final file size with 14 pivots can be 500MB! I have tried both "Create" and "Add", but they both give me errors.

I have a text box that is set to "=B1". B1 is a cell from an Access table import with memo format. The text memo is long, probably on average between 1000-2000 characters. I have set up the text box to automatically resize for the text, but the text stops at what I assume is 255 characters, even though cell B1 displays the entire memo.
How can I set it up so that this text box (or any other similar shape) displays the text and retains its resize/wrap property?
This is done in Excel 2010.

I have an Excel 2003 file that contains hyperlinks to OneNote notebooks on a Sharepoint site. An Excel macro looks for these links and determines the full hyperlink address which is then assigned to a variable. An Outlook message is generated which includes the hyperlinks.
The hyperlinks work in the Excel file. I can also copy them from OneNote and manually paste them into an Outlook message and they work. However, when I obtain their full address and transfer that to the email through code, the links do not work. The hyperlink address from OneNote starts with "onenote:http" which is not recognized as a link.
If I can do this manually, there must be a way to do this with vba. Are there characters I need to include in the OneNote hyperlink address to make this work? Is there another way to transfer the working link from Excel to Outlook?
