Limit Row Height For Rows In Current-region?
Oct 15, 2007
I have an area in my spreadsheet (the current region surrounding cell G6) in which the height for each row should not exceed a specified limit (say, 150). It's okay if the row height is less than the limit - these rows should be left alone. I only want to resize those that exceed the defined row height limit.
Is there a simple way to reset the row height for rows whose height exceeds a specified maximum row height limit?

I am trying to get the address of Current Region through a Function call. The function only returns the address of the cell, not current region. Isn't it possible to use Current Region within a function? It works for a Subroutine. I have attached the examples in a file.

I get an error 1004 with this
Sub SelectCurrentRegion()
Cells.Find(What:=InputBox("Enter the sheet name to delete"), After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, LookAt:= _
xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:=False) _
.Activate
Range("ActiveCell.Value").CurrentRegion.Select
End Sub
I can put Range("G2").CurrentRegion.Select and it works fine, but I need it to enter the value from the earlier find.

Probably a really simple solution to this one, I'm trying to create a macro that will jump to a location, select the current region and then create a range name for that region. However, the number of rows in the region will change each time the macro is run as the region is a result of an advanced filter from a huge database. This is what I have managed so far but it to no avail
Selection.CurrentRegion.Select
ActiveWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Names.Add Name:="mergea", RefersTo:=Selection.Address
Ultimately the data selected will become a list for a Word mail merge

I have a sheet with a data in range A1:J9. I have a drop down list in each cell from A2:A100.
I'm trying to store all values in A1:J9 in an array using the property CurrentRegion.value like below
Code:
Arr=Range("A1").CurrentRegion.Value
The issue is that is taking as current region the range A1:J100, even if I don't have selected any value in the drop down list from A10:A100.
Is there a way to force CurrentRegion to select only values from A1:J9 ignoring the blanks dropdown list values or a similar way to load an array with values in a contiguous range?

I have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet. I cannot increase the row length beyond 548 pixels or 409.5. And similarly, there is one column that I cannot increase beyond 1788 pixels or 254.71 . Now, I can increase the size of rows via going to print preview and editing the margins, but it merely shrinks the size of the paper and I cannot re-expand it to fit.

I want to copy the current region on sheet 3 and paste that into sheet2 starting with cell E4. But I don't want to actually use the copy method. I believe there is a way to do this. I was thinking the following:
[Code] ......
The idea I had was to simply state that cell E4 would be assigned the value of CurrentRegion on sheet 3. Is there a way to bypass the copy method?
If not, how to copy, then paste?

Finding the Column with the MAX Height in comparison with other Columns of UNEVEN Height
I need two things :
1. I have several columns starting from Column B till Column F, each column having values starting from the third ROW.
Ex:-
Lets say Column B contains two values in B3 and B4, Col C three values in C3 C4 and C5, Col D four values D3,D4,D5 and D6, Col E two values in E3 and E4, Column F five values F3,F4,F5,F6 and F7.
So, the answer is F3:F7.
2.I am using 10^{4,3,2,1,0} in a particular portion of a formula, Now the number of elements in the array or in the Curly Braces depends on the number of Columns filled from Column B as explained in the Point 1.
Now, since I have five columns under consideration I have this order as mentioned here {4,3,2,1,0} , I would like to know whether I could make this dynamic, as in if there were only four columns then this would be {3,2,1,0} and if more this array could self-fill and expand..
If that's possible, then how do we use it in the formula, Is it by the virtue of the INDIRECT function?

I'm writing a code to adjust the height of the row based on the wraped lines. I want it to be "16.5 * (number of lines)".
First I counted the number of lines in each cell. I wrote at D1 the formula to calculate the lines at A1:
=LEN(A1)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A1;CHAR(10);""))+1
Then I wrote this vba code to adjust the height:
Sub AdjustHeight()
Dim x As Double
x = 1
For Each Cell In Range("A1: A11")
Cell.RowHeight = 16.5 * CELL(D"x")
x = x + 1
Next Cell
End Sub
How do I do that multiplication? How can I tell it to multiply 16,5 with the value of the cell D"x"? Is this the best way?

I generated my spreadsheet in using vb6.
Everything is working except that when I display the display (making it visible), some of the data in the rows hides underneath the row lines. I have to physically go into the spreadsheet to expand the rows to see the hidden data. Also, if I print the spreadsheet, the hidden part of the spreadsheet is cut off unless I mannually expand the rows. How can I programmatically expand the rows to fit each amount of records in the row. Currently, I have a module that is mannually calculating the rows
Also, I have attached the spreadsheet so that you can see my output.
Below is the code that calculates and formats the row presently:
w = 0
For Each R In xlWksht. Range("A5:N5"): w = w + R.ColumnWidth: Next
rht = xlWksht.Range("A5").RowHeight
With xlWksht.Range(xlWksht.Cells(ii + 1, 2), xlWksht.Cells(ii + 1, 14))
.HorizontalAlignment = xlLeft
.VerticalAlignment = xlTop
.WrapText = True
.Orientation = 0
.MergeCells = True
.RowHeight = .Font.Size * (Len(xlWksht.Range("A" & ii + 2).text) - Len("Comments:")) / w + rht + (rht - .Font.Size) ' + newlinecnt * .Font.Size
End With
Below is my entire module:
ii = 5
w = 0
For Each R In xlWksht.Range("A5:N5"): w = w + R.ColumnWidth: Next
rht = xlWksht.Range("A5").RowHeight
'Do Until M.qBW.EOF = True
Do While Not M.qBW.EOF
ii = ii + 2
xlWksht.Cells(ii, 1).Value = M.qBW![Req No]
xlWksht.Cells(ii, 2).Value = M.qBW![Description]
xlWksht.Cells(ii, 3).Value = ""
xlWksht.Cells(ii, 4).Value = M.qBW![ClientName] & Chr(10) & M.qBW![Status]
xlWksht.Cells(ii, 5).Value = M.qBW![P L] & Chr(10) & M.qBW![TotalProg1Hrs] ...

I'm trying to create a macro to delete all empty rows but only if they are a certain row height. I currently have a macro that looks to the first cell and if it's empty, then it deletes the entire row. The only problem is that I would like to keep the shorter, empty rows to maintain my desired formatting. I will post the code I have if I can figure out how to do it properly and not violate the forum rules.
[code]
Sub DeleteEmptyRows()
'Cell A above and below each header contains white and gray text to maintain formatting when deleting empty rows'
Dim i As Long, LastRow As Long
LastRow = ActiveSheet.Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row[code]......

I have a macro that selects a range of about 20 columns and fills down. It works fine on my smaller set of data, but when I use one that has about 40,000 rows I get the error:
FillDown Method of Range Class Failed
It fills down about 7,000 rows, then fillsdown the first cell of the next row, but leaves the others blank. The entire range (including the nonfilled cells) is still selected.

01
02
04
06
I then have a spreadsheet which contains a number of columns and rows.
I want to create a new spreadsheet in the first column it will contain the branch from the table above then the rows and columns in the above spreadsheet
The rows and columns would then repeat for each of the other branches in the table. IE if I have 4 branches in my table and 100 rows in my spreadsheet my new spreadsheet would contain 400 rows

I would love to be able to limit the number of rows in a specific sheet so that I can quickly carry formulas to the bottom of a worksheet without carrying them to row 1,048,576. I'm aware of options to hide rows and/or to limit the scrolling with the "view code" option on the worksheet tab; however, I'm mainly worried about worksheet performance. When I carry a formula down, I don't want to see a spinning blue circle run for minutes at a time, and I'm hoping to avoid the same spinning circle when I undo my formula. Is there any way to actually limit the number of rows, or is there any other limitation I could put in that would increase worksheet performance?

I have an Excel file that is 590 MB and Excel is telling me that since there are over 1,048,576 rows in this file (which I understand is the row limit for Excel 2010), it will only open partially, up to that row amount.
Excel suggested I open up the file in Word, but that has been unsuccessful - Word gives me error messages and won't open the file. I've also tried converting the file to .rtf and .odt, but again, that doesn't work.
Is there any way to break this excel file down? I'm assuming that whoever created it could not have made the document more than 1,048,576 rows, if that is Excel's limit, but maybe I am wrong. The document is in date order from 2008 to 2011, but only 2008 will show, and I know the later years exist. It doesn't matter to me which program this file opens with, I just need the data.

I have a sheet with a hierarchy of operating units in a column, with DirectX checkboxes next to each (used a VBA script to auto-create the checkboxes ).
The checkboxes go from D5:D147, so 142 checkboxes. They are named checkbox_D5, checkbox_D6 all the way to 147, so checkbox_[Column]&[Row].
Based on a True/False value in another column to the right (BA or column#53), I am hiding specific rows. Just to give a sense, if a checkbox for a Level 2 hierarchy is clicked, I have some formulas to determine which Level 3 rows will be shown by putting a TRUE in column BA. For sake a speed, I created these to only run for 30 rows per click (that's the most that would ever change on a checkbox click).
I did not know how to do it any cleaner, so I created 142 of these:
Code:
Private Sub CheckBox_D5_Change()
Dim i As Long
For i = 5 To i + 30
[Code]....
It works OK up to checkbox_D23 or 24, but excel seems to reduce the number of rows it goes through for each checkbox below that, with checkbox_D31 down doing nothing. I read somewhere about a 32 form item limit, wonder if I'm hitting that.. Cleaner way to do this vs. 142 instances of checkbox_XX_change() events?

I have a UDF for a lookup_occurrence formula (thanks to Dave), and I was wondering if it was possible to tweak the range it looks at with if statements.
I have a formula like this =Lookup_Occurence(B13, INDIRECT($N$5), 1,1,5) where N5 says exit card 1.
I need it to only look at a certain rows within exit card 1 depending on the value entered in I5.
If value I5 says Period_1 it will only look in rows 12:46.
If value I5 says Period_2 it will only look in rows 48:82 etc.
I believe I need to modify the xl look part of the code with if statements.
Below is the code. I am wondering if I can replace the xlLook line with nested if statements. If I5="Period_1 then rows 12:46" etc.
Function Lookup_Occurence(To_find, Table_array As Range, _
Look_in_col As Long, Offset_col, Occurrence As Long, _
Optional Case_sensitive As Boolean, Optional Part_cell_match As Boolean)
Dim lLoop As Long
Dim rFound As Range
Dim xlLook As XlLookAt
Dim lOcCheck As Long

I am trying to figure out the best way to plot this data -- For each region, I want to plot December 2006 snowfall against December 2007 snowfall. So starting on row 12 to row 41 (in the attached file). First challenge: the dates are not aligned because it is using the retail calendar where 12/3/2006 is compared against 12/2/2007. How can I plot the snow depth for the Northeast for example? I can't just use a dual axis chart because there are also dual dates...

I have one worksheet that contains a large table. I'm using VLOOKUP to spread each row of the table to separate worksheets.
When VLOOKUP refers to an empty cell, is there a way to set that row to be hidden?
Also, if VLOOKUP returns data to a cell, is there a way for Excel to automatically set the row height to display all of the linked data in that cell?
