Excel 2003 :: Copying Range Of Cells From One XLS File To Another
Nov 5, 2012
I'm using Excel 2003. I've got two different .XLS files, each with multiple sheets.
I'm trying to create a macro which will copy a range of cells from one sheet on one .XLS file (which is closed) to a specific place on a specific sheet on the current .XLS file (which is open).
So for the sake of argument:
I've got two Excel files: C:ApplesOldFile.xls and C:OrangesNewFile.xls
OldFile.xls is closed -- NewFile.xls is open and in front of me.
I'm trying to copy the data in ranges B6:C41 and F6:F41 from Sheet2 in OldFile.xls to the same ranges on Sheet6 in NewFile.xls. There are no formulas in these cells -- just data (numbers).
I keep getting error messages, failures to copy to clipboard, etc.
At the moment I do it all manually, and it takes forever. I am sure there must be a simple way of doing it. I am using Excel 2003, but could work in a newer version if required.
I have a worksheet which has various figures for each day of the week however I need to establish the weekly average of these figures.
Due to the way in which the figures are displayed, I am unsure how to use a formula which does not require a range with cells located adjacent to one another.
I have attached a test sheet as an example. The cells in yellow require the formula and I need a weekly average for criteria 1-3. This formula also needs to be compatible in Excel 2003
I'm stuck using Excel 2003 to auto-populate a cell.
I have a range of dates in five consecutive columns called:
Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, Phase 4 and Phase 5
I enter the date that 'Phase 1' starts under the first header. Once Phase 2 starts I enter a date under 'Phase 2', and so on to Phase 5.
Each phase is consecutive to the next so will always be filled in from 1 to 5.
I want to create an additional column called 'Status' that shows the Column Title of the last phase with a date in it. For example, if Phase 1 to 3 had dates but 4 & 5 were blank, "Phase 3" would be displayed in the 'Status' column.
I've tried nesting some ISBLANK functions without any luck.
I need to copy a column of data from Sheet1 to Sheet2, but skipping every 5th row in the original data on Sheet1, but without leaving any gaps in the resultant column in sheet2.
At the moment I've been manually changing the formula but there must be an easier way.
eg. Copying data from Sheet1, A1 to A11, I would have in Sheet2, starting at A1 : =Sheet1!A1 =Sheet1!A2 =Sheet1!A3 =Sheet1!A4 =Sheet1!A6 =Sheet1!A7 =Sheet1!A8 =Sheet1!A9 =Sheet1!A11
Any formula I can enter that would be dragable and still skip every 5th row ?
Each of my data sets spans roughly 75 columns by 250 rows at present, but this could expand. The first 7 rows contain metadata. Columns 2-25 or so contain the raw data, from which everything to the right is calculated. The data sets have most columns in common, but not necessarily all.
In order to tease out the most meaningful information from my data, I frequently sort all or part of it based on varying criteria. When I find a useful sorting criterion, I create a new column with a header that describes the criterion and populate it with a formula that returns a 1 if the condition of interest is met for that row, or a 0 if it is not. For example, if I am doing this in column AA, I might enter
=--(AND($AX8>$AA$4,$Y8>0))
and copy it down to the end of the data. The resulting vector of 1s and 0s quickly re-identify data that meets that criterion even after subsequent resorting. It also makes locating data that meets multiple sorting criteria extremely simple. Essentially, I create a truth table.
Cell $AA$4 in the above example contains a "comparator" value I might wish to change at some point, which would change the subset of data the condition selects for.
Here's the first hard part:
For each data set, I need the ability to generate meaningful plots that includes separate series based on the criteria I have described. However, I also need to retain the ability to resort the data or change the comparator value without disrupting these plots. In other words, the plots must NOT change when the order of the data is changed, but MUST change to display the appropriate data when the comparator changes.
Here's the 2nd hard part:
Once I have this working for one data set, I need to be able to port it to other data sets (which are contained in other workbooks), so that I can compare equivalent plots from each. I also need to minimize the number of manual steps involved in doing so, to avoid human errors and excessive time consumption.
The only other possible complication I can think of at the moment is that, to this point, I have been inserting blank rows to isolate subsets that I do not wish to perform further sorting on from each other.
Right now I am angling toward VBA code that loops through the entire data set to generate base dynamic ranges using the column header row (row 1) as the names, and the entire column of data for the rangeloops through the truth table columns to generate "branch" row ranges for each of the sorting conditions, loops through the entire data set one more time to create "branch" ranges for each of the base ranges.
I could generate some code to accomplish a one-off solution for a given configuration of a single data set (provided there is not a list length limit in a chart series that I'd be violating)...but without a dynamic named range, I don't know how to get to something that would update appropriately. So in essence, I am still stuck at the dynamic range part of this.
I need a macro in a workbook to look at all the files in the same folder that have "*att*.xls" in the name and determine and copy from the range A15:W515 only the rows that have data in at least columns A, C and D. Each file will vary as to how many rows there will be and there are more than the files with "*att*.xls" in the folder. The data will be on the only worksheet in each file and the worksheet is named "G2WAttendee_xls" the data from all the files need to be copied to the file called "Consolidated webinar reports.xls" (I am using Excel 2003) and to a sheet called "Attendance Data" and added to the end of the last paste.
At the start of the macro the current file "Consolidated webinar report.xls" should be saved to a sub folder of the current directory and have the date saved added to the name. The sub folder is called "Completed reports". The data in the original file on worksheet "Attendance Data" should be deleted.
At the end of the process all the files that have had data copied from them should be moved to the sub folder "Attendance reports consolidated" (This could be done as each file is closed if that is easier).
I have headings in row 1 of the "Attendance Data" worksheet that match the headings in the various files in the folder (which will always be in row 14 of the individual "*att*.xls" files).
The folder with all the files and the "Consolidated webinar report.xls" file is at path "Z:P and S MEvaluationsWebinar series 2012-13TB".
I wanted to know if it was possible for me to be able to copy a whole row into a different sheet based on a column value. For example, if B6 = CLOSE, the whole row would be coppied to the sheet name CLOSE. If B6 = OCCUPIED it would be copied to sheet name OCCUPIED. I also need if W7 = to a date thats passed today it would be added to the sheet name EXP PRD. An off topic question, i have this code for column "W":
=COUNTIF(W6:AD155,">"&TODAY()+15)
It works just fine, but I also have "N/A" / "INDEF" in the blocks as well so it's not giving me the correct results. I'm using Excel 2003.
So I have the code that allows me to search for the a certain value in a cell and then copies a certain cell to the other spread sheets. Here is the code that does that
Code:
Sub SearchMacro() Dim LR As Long, i As Long With Sheets("Sheet1")
[Code].....
The code will just need to search for the string "HSFL" and I won't have to hard code all the different variations of HSFL as I mentioned above.
Worksheet 1 is called "Master List Data". Every cell within this worksheet contains a formula so that it matches the cell value contained in a worksheet held within another workbook.
The formula for reference is as follows:
=IF('[CCL Breakdown.xls]MASTER LIST - Active Customers '!A1="","",'[WFX CCL Breakdown.xls]MASTER LIST - Active Customers '!A1) .
e.g.
If Cell A1 on Master List-Active Customer contains no data, Cell A1 in Master List Data would be blank.
If Cell A1 on Master List-Active Customer equals John Smith, Cell A1 in Master List Data would display John Smith.
There are currently non-blank values contained in cells A4:A750. But next week there may be non-blank values is cells A4:A790 (i.e. it will grow each week)
Worksheet 2 is called "Master List Flat. At the moment, I am manually copying and pasting the rows which have non-blank values in cells from Column A from Worksheet 1 into this report (e.g. A4:IV4).
I would like to automate this process and I have created a Macro, but I do not know how to word it so that it will only copy cells with actual data in.
The Macro I have written is below:
Sub IMPORTANDFLATTENDATA() ' ' IMPORTANDFLATTENDATA Macro ' Macro recorded 01/10/2012 by walesb ' ' Application.ScreenUpdating = False Sheets("Master List Flat").Select Rows("4:759").Select
Basically the first worksheet (equipment list) is set out for parts used for each individual unit which can be printed out for each unit.
The second worksheet is an equipment list, where each part number and quantity required is displayed which can be sent to suppliers for ordering.
At the moment I
-> copy the equipment list to a new worksheet -> do an advanced filter for "Unique records only" -> =SUMIF('Equipment List'!B:B,'Parts List'!A16,'Equipment List'!D:D)
which is much faster than the way we used to do it.
The problem is, when I add a part to the equipment list that is new, I need to go through the process again.
Is there a way to automate so any parts I add to the equipment list, if it is the first time the part number has been entered, it will copy to the parts list worksheet and update the qty column or if it is an existing part number it just updates the qty column?
The equipment list may potentially have up to 100 different drives, but using mainly the same equipment.
I created this sample on an old desktop using excel 2003 but I use 2010 on my laptop.
Every day I create many Excel reports that I manually save as PDFs for distribution to my stakeholders. I'd like to automate this process using a macro. I've seen the following code online and have attempted to use it, but receive an error in the Dim MyPDF line of code indicating that the user-defined type is not defined.
I'm using Excel 2003 and Acrobat Distiller 8. I have no problem creating PDFs manually
Code: Sub Create_PDF() Dim tempPDFFileName As String Dim tempPSFileName As String Dim tempPDFRawFileName As String
I have a question regarding the properties of an Excel file (.xls 2003). I can change them all (as indicated on Microsoft support website) expect the name of the last person who recorded the document (File ==> Properties==>Stat.)
I have a excel 2003 template that loads a csv file and create a graph. What I am trying to do is remove the Workbook_open macro after it has been run so when they save the file it will not save the macro in the new file.
How do I create a hyperlink in an Excel 2003 file that will open a PDF file with Reader?
I have an Excel file of hundreds of Customer names and invoice numbers. I have a directory of PDF files. The name of each PDF file is the customer name, a space, and the invoice number. I should be able to have a column in the Excel file that contains a formula that creates a hyperlink to open the corresponding PDF file.
I used the HYPERLINK function and built the path and file by concatenating information. When I click the hyperlink, I keep getting an Excel error: Cannot open the specified file.
Do you think this problem is something of my own doing or some "undocumented feature" in Excel?
I'm trying to save an Excel file to be opened on Excel 2003, but with some VBA formulas. What is the compatible format? 2003 doesn't open in .xlsm format.
I am trying to automate a process where a series of numbers would get populated according the range values. Also I am trying to get the automation to pick up the next range when finished with first one and continue with the task.
Here's what I have as start info and where I want to get to.
Is there a way to disable the Convert button on the File menu and also to limit the Save As file types? I have a workbook that I maintain in Office 2003 that gets filled out by customers and returned. When a user with a newer version of Excel converts the file, it doesn't function properly when I go open it. I believe the conversion issue has to do with Active X Controls, but I'm using them to do some things that won't work with Forms Controls, so replacing them would be a last resort. Also, upgrading Office isn't an option at this point.
What i am trying to do is in 1 workbook (labled as Book1 literally), it needs to copy the sheets out of every .xls file there is in a single directory, we'll call C:MyFolderMySubFolder. There can be anywhere between 1 and 366 files in this particular folder and I need all the sheets in each file labled 'CC' copy that entire sheet, paste that sheet to Book1, go back to that file it was copied from, close it (saving changes is ok), then move on to the next file.. and the next file... and so forth
While pasting into book1, I need each WS copied from each file to paste to a new worksheet in book1 rather than combining them into 1 or overwriting, and lable each of those sheets the file name of which the sheet came from...
The names are in sequence. All files in the folder will be labled as a date such as "9-6-12" so the sheet name in book1 would be named 9-6-12. (so there may result in 366 new worksheets to book1)
What I need to do is put data that I get on a variery of excel speadsheets into a standard template. I can do this by the process of copying over column by column the appropriate detail from one workbook to the other.
what I'd like to do is replicate the column headings of the template onto the workbook with the original data so I'm looking at just one workbook all the while until I'm ready to transfer all the data in one go.
I realise I can just copy from the template to the active workbook, but what I had in mind was having the ability to hit a button to replicate it associated with a macro.
So the macro I'd want would involve starting from a cell in the active workbook, obtaining a named range from my personal workbook (which would be the template headings) and then pasting this back into the active cell of the active workbook.
And if it is feasible...how would I get it to work (taking into consideration the Personal workbook may be hidden).
Is there a way without using code to have the text in a text box (excel 2003), copied to another cell or another text box on a different worksheet?
I have information in a text box on 1 worksheet. I would like this information to automatically be copied to another worksheet. On the master sheet, if any of the information gets changed or updated, the copied information should get updated as well.
I have an excel spreadsheet that I password encrypted in Excel 2003.
The computer that it was stored on has died however the hard drive was still good and has been added as a second drive in my current computer with no signs of data corruption.
I took ownership of all the files on the old drive and gave explicit rights on my current computer to open that file. However when I open the file with in excel. I get the error: You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission.
When I open from windows explorer. I get the error: Excel cannot access 'Passwords.xls' The document may be read-only or encrypted.
And: 'Password.xls' cannot be accessed. The file may be corrupted, located on a server that is not responding, or read-only.
The new computer has Excel 2010 instead of 2003. Additionally, I know the password to the encrypted file but it wont let me even get to a place where I need to put in a password. I cannot move or copy this file to another location either.
I have a row data corresponding to the measuring of load cell per min and I need to average the values per hour. So I have a column B for the date (from 1-01-2013 to 31-01-2013, column C for the time (0:00:00 to 23:59:00), and D de values per min I want to average. I have to do the same for the rest of the month of 2013 (February, ...., December).
I would like to know if there is a way to create a formula to calculate the average of the first 60 values (to get the average of the first hour of 1-01-2013), and then copy it to get the average of the following 60 (average of the second hour in 1-01-2013) and so on.
If there is no way to do it, I would like to know if I can do it using functions like average, match, index, offset, what would be the best match of those functions.
I also tried it by doing the analysis in another tab and using the function "averageifs" with two criterias: one for the date (example 01-01-2013) and another one for the hour (example 0:00:00), but it didnt work, it show error: #value. I inserted an extra column in the data tab with just the hour (example 0:00:00) in front of the corresponding column with (example 0:01:00, 00:02:00, etc) Equation I used for this:
=AVERAGEIFS('Data (min)'!D$6:D$43206,'Data (min)'!$A$6:$A$44646,A6,'Data (min)'!$B$6:$B$44646,B6) =AVERAGEIFS(TAB AND COLUMN WHERE THE RAW DATA IS,RANGE OF CRITERIA 1,CRITERIA 1,RANGE CRITERIA 2,CRITERIA 2)
I have run into a problem in a project where I know what the folder root of the file I would like to import into excel is, but I do not know the file name.
I would like to open a dialogue open where I can select the file I wish to import from the known root supplied and retain the file name as a string.
All solution I have read assume the full file root is know or file name is known but root is unknown
I just wrote two macros that each produce separate text files (call them 'A' and 'B'). I want to open 'B' with Excel VBA, copy all of its contents, and paste that content into 'A' right after a specific location in 'A' (where I have 10 consecutive asterisks, i.e., **********).
Most topics relating to Excel VBA and .txt files have to do with either importing / exporting into Excel (not what I want), or with associating .txt files to Excel (also not what I want).
