Excel 2007 :: Reference Last Occurrence Of Text String
Feb 8, 2011
I am running EXCEL 2007 on XP. What is the EXCEL cell formula to put in a cell (for example"E5") that will reference the "last" occurrence of a specific text string in column A (For example Chard ) but will show its corresponding column B content (for example its PH number 3.45) regardless of the number of data entries that will be inputted in the future for both column A and B.
A B C D E
1WINEPH
2Chard3.24
3Merlot3.36
4Cab 3.44
5Merlot3.38 xxx
6Chard3.26
7Chard3.45

I have encountered some difficulty in modifying a macro I wrote into what I need. I created a macro that searches a column (Column C) for a cell value of, "stop", and then it copies everything above that cell and pastes it onto another sheet. In the sample data set that I was using, "stop" first occurred in cell C541, so the macro copies C1:C540 and pastes it onto another sheet. The problem is that the macro created an absolute reference to C540. What I desire is for the macro to use the 'Find' function to locate the first occurrence of, "stop", offset one cell above that cell, and then reference the active cell (which was positioned by these last two steps) in the range that should be copied. Basically, I'm hoping to have cells C1 through the active cell copied and then pasted onto another sheet.
I am using EXCEL 2007. When I refresh the individual pivot tables, I don't get any error. But when I click on Refresh all Pivot, I get a Reference if not valid error. The source for my pivot is referencing to another workbook. Why is there this error and how can I resolve it?
I'm looking for a formula that can determine whether a given sub-string appears in a string. For example if cell A1 contains the string "bathing", and cell A2 contains the sub-string "bat", the formula in A3 would return "TRUE".
However, if the sub-string in A2 is changed to "cat", the result in A3 would be "FALSE". The formula would need to work with strings of different and unpredictable lengths.
This forumla generates a number for each player, the higher the number the more inline they are to get a game
Problems are this works for the 29 weeks of this year but more weeks need added to the end of the year as we get there. Can i generate the array numbers from a formula and shorten.
This is a sample data ignore row 2( just a count of players) and data actually goes back to 6th Jan
I have the following code which compares a string between two sheets. First sheet is 'data', second is 'saw'. I'm trying to copy an array of numbers (energy consumption for each hour of the day) based on machine ID and date (hence the compare string). How to modify it so it will copy the array of 24 number, not just the first number?
I have a few worksheets 'saw', drill, lathe. So I am using ActiveSheet, so I can run the same macro as all data is in the 'data' worksheet.
Sub test_copy() Dim a, i As Long, txt As String a = Sheets("data").Range("a1").CurrentRegion.Value With CreateObject("Scripting.Dictionary") .CompareMode = 1

Is there a formula that I can put in AI that will mask the text character from text position 3 through the 2nd to last text position of each business name in AH? Where in the heck do you find XLGenie in the Excel 2007 ribbon? I have it installed and its in my addins list, yet nowhere to be found in the ribbon!
I created one worksheet called: Assumptions. In this worksheet I have 6 different columns representing 6 different cases.
I have completed the first case in a different worksheet called: WL. I would like to copy this case/worksheet WL and be able to change all the reference cells used in case#1: WL to case#2: FA. So all the cells used in my Assumptions worksheet were in the B columns for case 1: WL, for case 2: FA they will all be in the C column, same row, different column.
Any quick way to do the changes?
My case #1 worksheet as over 10 000 formulas, I really don't want to change each and every formula.
I was thinking there was a way to highlight ALL the reference cells used in my Assumption worksheet, so I would have had to drag from B to C cells, only 50 cells. But I can't find it.
I understand that the function FIND(find_text, within_text, start_num) will find the first occurrence of a stated string. And by adjusting the start_num, you can skip a set number of characters before the search begins.
But, is there a way to find the Last occurrence of said string? In my case the find_text string may occur multiple times in the variable length within_text cell to be searched.
In the above 2 sample strings the output of the Find() function needs to be 26 & 40. Having a cell formula would be desirable, but if it can only be done by VBA that is acceptable, also.
Excel 2007.I'm looking to extract parts of an address into different columns, I've already extract the Country, Post Code & Town. But what i'm having trouble doing is extract the street address and county, the reason I'm having trouble is because not every address has a county.
Below is what I have so far:
I need to extract Street (which is in red) into the Street Column
County (which is highthlighted in dark blue) into county
I am migrating a bookkeepping spreadsheet from Quattro v12 (c2001) to Excel 2007 and have hit a stone wall over relative 3-D references.
In this workbook each sheet holds data for one month, and this includes some lagging-12-month calculations -- that is, summing a range on a single cell for the preceding 12 sheets (including this one).
Unexpectedly, this formula: =ISUM('201206:201305'!M6)
gives absolute references, even though I put in no dollar signs after the sheet names. This means it gives the wrong answer when copied to the next sheet to start a new month.
I can find no reference at all to converting the above formula from absolute to relative reference.
I'm having a problem with named ranges in a chart. I'm using Excel 2007 in Windows XP.
I have a line graph with twenty different series all using dynamic ranges. I created each series individually, typing the name and then the dynamic range I had previously defined. As far as I am aware, Excel demands when writing the reference that you specify which sheet/workbook this named range is from, so, given the scopes of my ranges are all 'workbook', I added the name of the workbook to the references.
e.g.
Series name: Series1
Series values: ='workbook name'!range1
This seems to work fine, but when I save and then re-open the file, the dynamic ranges no longer work. If I go to Select Data and look at the reference for a series, it has been changed thus:
I am having trouble making any formula references between 2 different workbooks.
For example, I being typing out my VLOOKUP function on 1 sheet, as soon as I get the table argument, I switch over to the other workbook in which the table is, and I no longer have the VLOOPKUP function active.
I am having this problem for any formula in which I am trying to reference this workbook.
I have ensured they are both saved as Excel workbook documents. I am using Excel 2007
I am trying to do some basic VBA in my spreadheet, I just want to create an auto-open statement that inputs then next sequential number in column A1 every time the s/s is opened i.e.1,2,3,4 .....
I am using excel 2007 and my knowledge is very limited. I used a code:
Sub AUTO_OPEN Range("A1") = Format(Range("A65536"), "YYYYMMDD") & Right(Range("A1"), 3) + 1 End Sub
(the first time you open the file you would need to add the first entry '20021122001)
But this does not work and I get a compile error when run thru debugger.
I have a set of sales data and need to create a run rate which is simply = Total Sales/Selling Day
Selling day changes most days.
I put the calculation into my pivot data but it's summing up, (instead on 12 I get 720) so I changed this to Average so I get the right figure in the Pivot but when I then use this field, it doesn't use the Average amount, it uses the summed figure.
I would like to find the position of the last occurrence of a character in a string. For example, I have a string with the following:
"c:wwgpeToolbidsTest File.GP$".
I would like to find out the position of the last '' in the string because I want to pull the filename, 'Test File.GP$' into a variable. I would like to avoid writing code to do this. Are there some Excel functions I can use for this?
I have multiple automatically updating data sets and I need to extract certain data to perform calculations on, this is the format of the data
SPLIT AB H 2B 3B HOME 20 6 1 0 AWAY 20 7 2 0 SPLIT R HR RBI HOME 2 0 1 AWAY 3 1 4
basically, what I need is to extract the data for home and away, and put them each on one line, no problem if this is always the format, but there are other lines of data that I don't need thrown in there at times which shift the data up or down a simple vlookup will extract the first occurance of home, but I need another formula to extract the second occurance so I can have them all on one line and have the data as:
SPLIT AB H 2B 3B R HR RBI HOME 20 6 1 0 2 0 1 AWAY 20 7 2 0 3 1 4
I need to find the first occurrence of the word grandsal after each employee details thru VBA. Is it possible to do that. If yes how to construct the if loops.
I take this time to thank all the members of the ozgrid for their exceptional.
I have the need to email the current worksheet in Excel 2007, which I have been able to do with the following ...
Sub SendTab() 'Declare and initialize your variables, and turn off screen updating. Dim wks As Worksheet Application.ScreenUpdating = False Set wks = ActiveSheet
[Code] .......
Is there a way I can also get it to also rename the sheet from the default "Book1" to the information in a referenced cell.
I'm working on a decision matrix to evaluate different alternative production methods. Before that criteria have to be choosen and weighted against each other. The user would fill out the yellow/ blue cells with (0=less important; 1=equally; 2=more). Then values are added up and put into some kind of ranking.
The example was done by hand, which costs a lot of concentration. I would now like to extend the matrix - do you know how to fill out the grey cells more efficiently?
I'm just new here as well as in Excel-VBA stuffs. I will appreciate if someone could help me. Here is the scenario. I have a data piled in a single column and different rows. Like this one:
How do I use an Excel formula to find which (if any) multiple sets, each of up to 50 words, exist in a series of rows of a spreadsheet - if set A has one or more words found in a searched cell.
A positive result will return a specific value in the designated result cell. If none of the words in Set A is found in the searched cell, the formulae will repeat the test for the words in Set B, and so on.
After all 50 sets of words have been tested, the formula will move to the next cell in the searched column.
New words will be added to the sets of words continually as required.
Multiple words within sets are included in double quotes. Within each set of words there will be some n-tuples of words (i.e. 24 adjacent words) that contain one or more of the words in the set, but for which the formula will be required to return a negative result. Example: Set A = word 1, word2, word 3, "word1 word2 word3". (The words within a set could also be each entered in separate columns, as opposed to all included in a single cell.) The single column of text to be searched is about 10,000 rows.
I am wanting to use the above in a spreadsheet that contains data downloaded from a series of bank accounts to automatically allocate items of expenditure to one of 20 or so different categories of expenditure.
The formula will search the description field to find words that are used in the in the downloaded files from the various accounts to describe each transaction.
If a word describing travel expenditure (e.g. hotel, "holiday inn" but not "holiday travel") is found in the description of an expenditure item - the item cost will be allocated to the TRAVEL EXPENDITURE column, which is one of 20 or so different categories of expenditure.
Happy to consider a different solution if the task can be done better a different way.
Tried using a combination of INDEX/SEARCH/IF in Excel, but was not able to get a correct result. PS I am using Excel 2011 for Mac - which does not allow macros, so the solution needs to be entirely formula based.
I am trying to find specific text throughout an excel document (2007) and replace it with the same text but in italics. I tried using the options/format function and selecting italics for the "replace" text but it replaces the entire cell text in italics instead.
Date: 17/09/2013 KO: 19:45 Ref: B Malone Att: 7,574 extraction of text from the above text string which is say in A1. What l need is for Date to go in A2, KO in B2, Ref in C2, & Att in D2. I'm using Excel 2003
