Excel 2007 :: SharePoint / Checking File Status

Jun 11, 2014

I'm working with a file from SharePoint (FileA), "FileA" goes out to Sharepoint and opens "FileB" (if not already open) then copies information from "FileA" to "FileB". However if "FileA" is left open, or someone else has it open I am unable to open "FileA". How in VBA can I check to ensure I don't have it open locally (if so swich and continue), checkout and open in SharePoint (if not already open) or Prompt with options to force checkin, checkout to copy info?

Simple VBA copy I used:

Workbooks.Open FileName:= _
"http://sharepoint.baaa.com/sites/SCDT_DSD/Weekly_Releases/11.%20Combined%20Weekly%20Task%20List/1/Automated_Status_Update.xlsm"
Sheets("1").Select
Range("A1").PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues

Excel 2007 :: Generate Single Sheet Workbook And Save To Sharepoint Site

Jan 4, 2012

Automating Excel from Access, I'm attempting to generate a single sheet workbook and save to a Sharepoint site. This process works fine on my machine (XL2007, XP), but on a coworkers computer (XL2003, XP), the code throws a 1004 error on the save as line. However, the really odd thing is that stepping through the code doesn't throw an error on the coworkers machine.

Here's the sub being ran; the line it errors out on is the first branch in the .saveas block.

Code:
Private Const csSharePointSaveAs = "\sharepoint-us.mycompany.comsitesfinance adminlah blahlah-blahCustomer Publication Tracking.xls"

Private Sub PublishXLtoMOSS()
Dim objXL As Excel.Application 'Object
Dim wb As Excel.workbook 'Object
Dim ws As Excel.Worksheet 'Object
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Dim i As Long

'Set objXL = CreateObject("Excel.Application")

Excel 2007 :: Change Username In Mouseover Status Bar Message For Cell Comments?

May 30, 2012

I am having with Excel 2007.

When I hover the mouse over a cell with comments, the status bar displays a message; for example "Cell A12 commented by A satisfied Microsoft Office user".

I only get this message for one column. The cells in all other columns give my first and second name as the author of the cell comment.

Why it is only effecting one column. I have been unable to change the annoying "commented by A satisfied Microsoft Office user" to my own name.

Is there a macro that can do this? I tried two macros I found online, both from a few years back, but neither of them worked.

How To Select Range In VBA For Excel Status Email Where Status Not Equal To

May 12, 2014

I have some vba code that currently copies a status table out of a worksheet, into a temp file for an email. The status table in excel has a column D which can have different status. I want to select everything in the table except rows that are 'Descoped'. Currently my code looks like:

Set rng2 = Sheets("Execution Status").Range("B2:F420")

This picks up everything without looking at the status. I want to change it so it doesn't pick up the rows where Column D contains 'Descoped'.

In pseudo code I would describe it as:

Set rng2 = Sheets("Execution Status").Range("B2:F420") where value in D5:D420 is not equal to 'Descoped'.

I have tried:

Set rng2 = Sheets("Execution Status").Range("B2:F420").Value "Descoped" and nothing gets selected.

Macro To Copy Data From One To Another Sharepoint File

Apr 16, 2014

I created a macro on an excel file on my local PC that opens another excel file on my local PC and copies some data from file 2 and pastes that data in file 1. In file 1 have a Path and File Name that the Macro uses to get Open File 2 from. This works Great on my local PC!! However, I need to move this to a SharePoint. When I did I tried to change the Path and File name to the ones from the URL generated by SharePoint Send Link. No Luck, then tried to change the 20% replace for spaces. Still no luck. Do I need to use some other method of opening a file that is on SharePoint vs Local PC?

Currently have I have:

Sheets("Labels").Select
Path = Range("b2").Value
BenFile = Range("b3").Value
InterOpFile = Range("b4").Value
NMOCFile = Range("b5").Value
SECFile = Range("b6").Value
VistaAFile = Range("b7").Value

and Later in the Code:

Workbooks.Open Filename:=Path & BenFile

Rearranging Exported SharePoint Lists In Excel?

Jul 1, 2013

I've just exported a list from SharePoint to Excel, which gave me as a result a owssvr table, so far so good cause every time the list in SP is updated I can do a refresh and get the latest values; however once I opened the table I realized that the columns where not correctly order they were all mixed and the information does not look as it is required so I need to rearrange them. I do not need to delete a column I just need to be able to move them between themselves so that they will follow certain order: Product ID, Name, Amount of pieces, Place where they are stored, etc. this is very important because later on I use "vlookups" to do a series of reports.

I've tried cut- paste to move the columns to the correct position, unfortunately once I close the excel file and try to open it again, I got a message saying that the content is not readable and when Excel repairs it, my owssvr table loses the link to SP so I cannot update refresh the table anymore.

I cannot edit the list in SP as this site does not belong to me and I only got access to export the data and be able to refresh the table, all I want is to be able to move them within my ovssvr table so that locally I can work with them better.

Here is a pic of what I am talking about: cmms.JPG

So for example in the pic I put, I need that instead of Comments in Column E, Product ID can be in Column E, then Name in column F and so on..

Excel 2007 :: How To Find Bloat In A File

One of my sheets is currently 16Mb, when the others are about a third of that, with similar amounts of data.

Is there a way to find what is causing the extra space to be taken in this sheet?

Or does this seem about right for the amount of data?

When I select the link, I get an Alert Box stating, "Cannot open the specified file." How I can get these links to work?

Sheet or File Freds

Excel 2007 :: New File From Unique Listings

Feb 22, 2012

I'm having some trouble with a spreadsheet copy.

I have a spreadsheet listed out with 2-3 pieces of data per row like:

Mark - abc
John - def
John - ghi
Abby - xyz

etc.

What I need to do is create a new file for each unique string in column A. So for my brief example above, the "Mark" file would have 1 row, the "John" file would have 2 rows, etc. I also need to save the new file by the name in the first column (so "mark.xls"). (Conveniently, the table is sorted by the first column already.)

What I did was create a new worksheet for each row and then save that as my file. However I'm having problems getting my file to contain more than one row (I can get either the first or last row, but not all of them). I have about 30 spreadsheets to do this for, and each will create 80+ files... I'd really rather not do them by hand.

I'm on Excel 2007 if that matters.

I cobbled together some code I found in various places and this is what I have so far:

Code:

Sub CreateWorkbooks()
Dim newSheet As Worksheet, regionSheet As Worksheet, CurSheet As Worksheet
Dim cell As Object
Dim regionRange As String
Dim lngRows As Long
Dim CurRow As Long

[Code]...

(note that the comments are what it is supposed to be doing, not necessarily what it is doing)

Excel 2007 :: Add-in Not Loading When Opening File

Jun 10, 2013

I have an excel add-in which is a ribbon which houses a great deal of financial tools that I use on a regular basis so I don't have to hunt around excel for things I use regularly. The add-in has always loaded automatically whenever I opened excel - whether I opened excel by creating a new blank document or by double clicking a previously existing file.

Starting a few days ago though, the add-in only opens when opening excel by creating a new blank file. I can't think of anything that changed recently. Using Excel 2007.

Even when opening a file by double clicking, Excel still says the add-in is active (in excel options).

VBA To Send Email Switches File Status

Feb 4, 2014

Below is a VBA that sends an email with a range from Excel in the body of the email, and the entire book as an attachment from a temporary file. It works great, except that I need the entire file to close, and it will not because a message pops up that says "Do you want to save file before switching file status". This will not let Excel close. I need to bypass that pop up message. Display Alerts = False did not work. In the bottom of the code below, there is a spot that tries to kill the temporary file, but it does not work until "No" in the pop up message is pressed. Again, I need to bypass that pop up message.

Open Workbook Within Zip File & Not Have Read-Only Status

Aug 12, 2009

I understand that vba can determine if the current file is read-only using the following to return true / false. GetAttr(ThisWorkbook.Path) And vbReadOnly

which seems to work fine for determining if the file is read-only, as there is another instance of the file already open. However when opening a file straight from a zipped directory (i.e. not extracting the file first), Excel opens the file as read-only. The above code returns false in this instance, i guess because the workbook path has a .zip ending rather than the normal .xls etc endings. how to return true that the zip file is read-only?
