Excel 2007 :: Running Macro From Protected Workbook
Mar 13, 2008
I have a macro with "ActiveWorkbook.Protect Password:="password"" . It was working fine in excel 2003. In excel 2007, because of this I am not able to run any macro's in the workbook. I am getting a message "The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be disabled. I can see a security warning in message bar saying macros have been disabled, but I dont have have a option to enable the macros.

Running Windows 7, Office/Excel 2007
I have a macro which performs some conditional formatting on a worksheet. Based on the value in cells in one column, if the value meets the criteria some simple formatting is performed (row is colored, font changes for that row etc).
The macro then calls a second macro which performs the same evaluation on the same cells from the same column. If the value meets the criteria (same as previously) it is supposed to change the value of the cell by 1/2.
Both macros work, however the 2nd macro also seems to remove all of the formatting, font changes, coloring etc that occurred from the first macro. I have had the first macro save the active workbook and close and have the 2nd macro re-open the file but it sill overwrites the formatting. If I do not have the 2nd macro run the format changes are saved. I have tried saving the file after the first macro runs with .xls and .xlsx extension and no luck.

I am getting a "Run time error 5", "invalid procedure call or arguement" when I run a macro on a PC other tha the one on which it was created.
In this case both PC's are running on the version 2007 of Excel.
This is the highlighted statement when the macro fails
Code:
ActiveWorkbook.PivotCaches.Create(SourceType:=xlDatabase, SourceData:= _
"SOCX25!R1C1:R" & Lr & "C23", Version:=xlPivotTableVersion14).CreatePivotTable _
TableDestination:="SOCX25!R7C25", TableName:="PivotTable1", DefaultVersion _

I have a macro in a workbook (good start) as follows:
Sub UnhideSheets()
' Set to Auto Calc mode
With Application
.Calculation = xlAutomatic
End With
' Asks for a password (must be "unhider")
Dim mypass, response As String
mypass = Application.InputBox("This macro requires you to enter a password to proceed." & vbCrLf & "Please enter password below.")
' If password is correct
If LCase(mypass) = "unhider" Then
' Unhides all sheets
Dim i As Integer
For i = 1 To Sheets.Count
Sheets(i).Visible = True
Next i
' Then tells you that all is OK
response = MsgBox("All sheets unhidden", 0, "Macro run")
' Otherwise
Else
' Tells you that there is a problem (Unauthorised to continue)
response = MsgBox("Sorry, you are not authorised to use this macro.", 16, "Macro stopped")
' hides the sheet again
Sheets("BSG Only!").Visible = xlHidden
Sheets("CC07").Activate
' And ends the "if"
End If
End Sub
This unhides the "very hidden" sheets that make the book work and is password protected because I want to limit the people who can see this data.
What I would like to do, however, is call this macro remotely from another procedure in a separate book, which can only be accessed by those who are authorised to see the hidden data.
Essentially, then, my question is: "How do I call the protected procedure without the user having to enter the password each time, as they must be authorised to have access to the procedure that calls the protected procedure?"

I am getting an error when I protect a worksheet and save it. Upon re-opening the worksheet, I try to use the cells that are being formatted by a macro, but I get the following error...
Run-time error '1004':
Unable to set the NumberFormat property of the Range Class.
If I open the worksheet and it is already protected from when I last closed it, then I get the error. If I unprotect the sheet, then close it and reopen it, then I don't get the error. Does anyone know what I might be missing or doing wrong.

I have a workbook that many moons ago I protected. Now I want the workbook to be an unprotected workbook so many users can view and update if necessary.
Typically I know you are supposed to go to: Review, Changes, Unprotect Workbook. But all that is available is to protect the workbook, but it is already protected. I know this because every time I open the workbook, I am prompted to enter a password.
Is there another way to remove this workbook protection I do not know about?

"How to create a 'main' macro to control other macros within a workbook". I have my individual macros created. There's one macro for each sheet that searches online data and returns the information. I have one of these per sheet (a total of 20 sheets) since I couldn't find a way to have all 20 macros be on one sheet and still work. My trouble is that whenever I'm on my 'main' sheet and try to run the macro which applies to a 'secondary' sheet, I get an error. I have to select the sheet first, then run the macro and it works. Below is the macro on each sheet.
VB:
Sub Holding1()
Dim DataSheet As Worksheet
Dim EndDate As Date [code].....

Using Excel 2007. Is there a straightforward way to do a waterfall chart?
eg. stacked bars running from left to right.
First Column = 2011 Headcount
2nd Column = stacked bar with additions (by category) - stepping up from the 2011 total.
3rd Column = stacked bar with reductions (by category) - steppind down from the first column + 2nd colum total.
4th column = 2011 exit (which will be at the same height as the bottom of the 3rd column).

I wish I could have been more specific with my Title. This is what I am encountering. I used the McGimpsey code for generating a unique sequential number every time a workbook opens. I tailored the code to fit my needs and stuck it into my invoice sheet. For the longest time I was unable to make it work until I moved the code from a template to a standard workbook. Then I was able to make it work as long as the sheet was unprotected. I realized that to get the code to work I had to then unprotect the cells that the code was writing to. Now that I've done that I am getting errors in the code that weren't there before, rendering the macro useless. The code I am using is:

I have 2 workbooks (Workbook1 and Workbook2).
Workbook 1 contains a button, that calls a macro. This macro calls a macro from Workbook 2.
For this, I am using the Application.Run function.
The Macro in Workbook2 is a simple one line macro that updates cell A2 to a value of 6.
Range("A2").Value = 6
This works fine!
However, I want the the cell A2 in WORKBOOK1 to change to 6, not the cell in Workbook 2.
To add an element of difficulty, Workbook 1 could have any name (I won't know what it is, as the user could change it).
How can I get the Macro in Workbook 2 (Called from Workbook1), to update the cells in Workbook 1.

I have developed a model for a client which keeps crashing after being used a few times. The crash is major! Excel shuts down and asks to send an error report.
This can happen after being run anywhere from 3 to 20 times. (Clicking a POST button which transfers items to a "database" type sheet).
I developed the model on a PC using Excel 2010. When this was loaded on a Mac, the user tells me that it happened periodically, and I have seen is occasionally on my PC as well.
However, the workbook has now been loaded on a server, with users across the state of Victoria accessing via Sharepoint - most using Excel 2007. Now it is happening very frequently.
I don't think the macro is at fault, it doesn't go into debug. Excel just seems to GIVE UP.
Have you seen this kind of thing before? Is there a way of "flushing buffers" or something so that Excel can keep working?
I am reluctant to post the model because it is full of personnel details, and is 2.5mb.

I created a workbook called "controlelijst.xls" using Excell 2007. In this workbook i created a sheet that i use as a template, it has conditional formatting all over it. That in fact is not the problem. I copy this template for every new issue i have.
The thing i would like to see happening now is when i enter the value "Y" in cell O10 that the active sheet on wich the value is entered becomes hidden. Because the reason for setting this value is that all conditions are met on this sheet and it does not have to be visible anymore unless i unhide it.

I am using Excel 2007 on Windows XP professional.
The workbook is called EA.xlsm, and contains dozens of charts, tables and pivot tables - all of which pull their data from external files in the same folder. In case it matters, the folder also contains a Word 2007 document which contains embedded charts form the EA.xlsm file and lays them out for printing.
My problem is that all of a sudden, when I try to open the EA.xlsm file, it gives me two consecutive error messages, as follows:
Microsoft Office has identified a potential security concern.
File path: c:My DocumentsEA.xlsm
Data connections have been blocked. If you choose to enable data connections, your computer may no longer be secure. Do not enable the content unless you trust the source of the file. [Enable] / [Disable]

Automatic update of links has been disabled. If you choose to enable automatic update of links, your computer may no longer be secure. Do not enable the content unless you trust the source of the file. [Enable] / [Disable]

Excel then opens, but I just get the program with a blue screen. i.e. it looks like you have opened Excel, but not opened a file yet. However, if I try to close Excel, it asks me if I want to save changes to EA.xlsm, and if I try to open EA.xlsm again - it tells me that it is already open. Also, if I press Alt+F11 to open the VBA console - I can see the names of all of the sheet tabs in the file - but when I close the VBA console, it looks as though I do not have a file open again.
I suspect that somehow, somewhere the file is open, but I dont know what I need to do to be able to see/edit it. Or even worse - if it has become corrupt. It would take me about a month to put this file back together again from scratch.

I want to copy the header from a previous months report and paste it to a new workbook in Excel 2007. How can I write a macro to copy from a1 to g2, keep the same column width and all formatting, then open a new workbook (trouble now in that I previously selected book1 for the new one but this could chnage), and then paste this to the new workbook, and then save this to a location on my computer? So that's, copy, open new workbook, paste keeping all formatting and values, and then save.
