Excel 2010 :: VBA Error When File Opened From Email?
Aug 30, 2012I've got a file that works fine on my computer. When I email it to anyone with 2010 and they open it from their email account (Outlook 2010), the file automatically opens up in 'Protected Mode'. If the user selects "Enable Editing" the user receives 'Run Time error 91: Object variable or with block variable not set'.
If the user closes out the vba error and saves the file to their computer and reopens the file, it works fine.
BTW, it is not a complex macro, it is error out at
ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Worksheet").Select
Opened Up Excel 2010 File In 2013 Now It Won't Work Back At Office
Oct 29, 2013How come in 2013 there does not seem to be an option to "save as" an earlier version of Excel, specifically 2010?
I opened up something from work (2010) at home (2013) and must have refined it (nothing complicated or fancy that 2010 can't do!)
Now it won't open up at work and tells me to reopen and save as the old version.But 2013 won't let me.

Secondly can formulas like IF and vlookups statements be hidden and locked with some kind of password?
In maybe via VBA or by some other means, is this possible?
The end user should only be able to type and select certain cells only.
2nd Excel File Trying To Open When 1st Is Opened

Aug 19, 2013Using Excel 2010, I set up a simple workbook with a spreadsheet on one page and the ranges for data validation on another. I successfully linked the fields in the "Category" and "Tender" columns with the data on the second sheet, making nice drop down menus. Everything works fine on my computer. However, when we open the workbook on a different station, the drop down menus disappear. If you highlight any of the "Category" or "Tender" fields, the little drop down prompt is missing; they behave like regular, un-formatted fields. It appears that the data validation became un-linked.
We tried opening versions with certain fields locked (Mainly the Total, Breakdown, and Summary areas, but the fields with data validation were still editable), and also completely unlocked documents. Every time, the drop down lists were lost when opened on different stations.

Forget to check a box or something? This seems way harder for me to figure out that it should be!

How To Close Text File That Was Opened By DLL Called By Excel
Mar 11, 2014I call it from a macro. It is supposed to write some temporary files, and close them in the end, and delete them. Sometimes, the dll can't close properly, and the text files remain open.
With error treatment in my macro, I can continue execution, but i need to delete that files.
Since the dll DOES NOT CLOSE the files, i'm not able to delete them in my macro.
I need some way to close that files, in order to delete them.
When I use GetFile to reference the file, it remains as "File", which does not accept "Close" method. I can reference the file with myfile.OpenAsTextStream, but this way it seems to me that the file is opened again, and the "Close" method does not work either, with the file defined as a TextStream object.
If I close excel, I'm able to delete those files, but that's not the way I want. Since IT'S OPEN IN EXCEL PROCESS, I imagine there's some way to close it.
Excel 2010 :: Enable Cell Locking Based On Value In Another Cell?
Jul 17, 2014Is there a way in Excel (2010) to lock data from being entered into cells based on the value in another cell? Here is an example:
Row 4 contains dates from 2015-2030 as a header starting at column C (C4 and on) that represents years of revenue. Column B contains dates as well, this date can be any year but this becomes the driver for the data input in columns C through X. Column B contains the "Delivery Date"
Data is input in Columns C and so forth. The issue becomes that let's say that the date in C4 is 2016 and this is the beginning year. Obviously there should be no inputs for 2015 (C5) and the data should start to be input for this year at 2016 (C6). Often people just begin filling in the first available year not looking at what the year actually is.
Is there a way to add a formula or some logic/protection to prevent inputs in previous rows based on the values in column B? So if the value in column B is XXXX than there can be no inputs in cells less than that value?

As I am looping through files in a folder, I would like to determine if the file is a text file.
The problem is that all extensions are variable in a pattern such as .078, .051, etc.
In this instance, the extensions are numeric, but I'm trying to figure out a way to handle that is all encompassing to include *.txt, *.tsv, *.csv, *.prn, etc......
How can I handle these efficiently?

Dec 23, 2013I have an Excel 2010 workbook that is fairly slow to open (10-15 secs) because it is rather formula heavy. This workbook is opened by quite a few different people every day. What I would like to do is to open the file overnight using windows Task Scheduler and to update the file (using a workbook open event macro) and then for the rest of that day whenever the file is opened the formulas do not update until overnight the next day (and so on and so on).
I thought maybe toggling the Calculation Manual off/on? Would this be the best tactic?

Jul 1, 2014Isn't there a checkbox somewhere where I can tell Excel 2007 to leave xls files as they are? My Excel 2010 doesn't urge me to save an old xls file format into xlsx but in Excel 2007 I can't find a switch (and I don't rememeber if I had to do anything in 2010). So ultimately I want to stay in compatibility mode when using old files.

I am trying to record a macro where the last step is to SAVE AS the file. I want it to use the current date as the end of the file name.
i.e.

What I am trying to accomplish is this: From 'NEW TEST.xlsm', open an excel file on the network, add a new sheet to this network file, calling it 'Pivot'. Then create a pivot table in this new sheet from the data in sheet data1 of this same network file. Then move control of macro / processing back to the NEW TEST file. Eventually I will do more, but for starters, I cannot even get the macro to add / name a new sheet in the network file.

Dec 5, 2012I run excel 2010... I have xls file (see file attached) with both English and Non English characters.
When I save this file as xls or xlsx - everything is good, but when I save the file as CSV and try to open it later - I see that the English characters stays the same but the non English characters become gibberish.
How can I save a file (that include some non English characters) as CSV without loosing the non English characters? Is there a way to do that from within the excel 2010 menus? Or maybe there is an external tool?

Mar 6, 2013I have a workbook with several sheets with formulas, etc. one of the sheets its like a "resume" of the workbook. I want that sheet with the "resume" to be visualized by other person's without giving the access to the workbook.
The idea it's a file with linked data with the workbook that have the sheet with the "resume". When I change some data in the workbook the file with the linked data must be updated when someone open it and cannot edit, it is just for visualization.

When I go into the Excel Options, to the Save option and try to type in a specific network drive in the Default File Location: box, I click OK and then it doesn't save the changes. I close Excel down all the way and then restart a new Excel session and it keeps going back to "LibrariesDocuments..."
It doesn't seem to be just related to Excel...having the same issue in Word and Access 2010 as well.

Jun 6, 2013I have a technician who sits a desk over, has the same brand of computer running the same Windows 7 and the same Excel 2010, but when he opens a particular file the page layout or print area seems to change so that the sheet is partially cut off. All his options appear the same. I can open this file on other computers and it seems to be fine...
I notice that the Margins under Custom Margins are different and this would explain the problem but not why it occurs. It's a file I created and saved and he opened. Why would the margins change? Is this one of the Microsoft cross platform / program deals where if he changes the print set-up or page layout in WORD for example, it changes them in EXCEL?

Now, when it starts, I have a popup form asking for password for access for it. The problem is that for one person - AND ONLY THAT PERSON - the VBA Editor window opens and she has to press the "Play" button for it to hide and be able to enter the password to access the application.
The editor is not showing on any other computer. All computers are running Excel 2010.
