I have been using a macro to search and highlight customer addresses for me, however I have changed my worksheet and now have the addresses in two columns instead of one (D for the numbers, E for street names) for sorting purposes.
What I would like to do is either; find a way to search using data from 2 cells to get a result, or have multiple results highlight and popup.
Using: Excel 2010
Code: Sub SEARCH_FUNCTION() Set FoundCell = Sheets("Route").Cells.find(What:=Sheets("Intro").Range("G15"), LookIn:=xlFormulas, LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False) If Not FoundCell Is Nothing Then With FoundCell
I am currently using the simple code block below to jump to a cell on another sheet based on a user-inputted value to a cell on the current sheet. Although jump is too strong a word at the moment...walk slowly might be more appropriate.
The problem is that the sheet that contains the target cell hosts a very sizable used range and the FIND function can sometimes take almost a minute before finding and focussing on the required cell.
While I do not believe that a search range below that of sheet level for the FIND() function is possible, the cell that I am looking to jump to resides in a one-column, sorted, dynamic named range (=Bookings!JobID) on the target sheet, so I am sure that it must be possible to find and go the target cell in a much quicker timeframe than that being delivered at the moment. Just can't find something suitable at the moment.
I am trying to code a macro that will search through a selected range of cells for key letters, for instance this cell may contain any combination of B, C, Te, Tc, RH, or LH. I would preferably like to search with capitalization being a factor but it is not a deal breaker. Below is a sample of what i have if the cell has a B, C it works for B but ignores the C i need it t o recognize both.
Code: If InStr(1, ActiveCell.Text, "B") Then Range("O" + CStr(ActiveCell.Row)).Select With Selection.Interior .Pattern = xlSolid .PatternColorIndex = xlAutomatic .color = 65535 .TintAndShade = 0 .PatternTintAndShade = 0
I have a range of cells each containing different values. Each of these different cells has a related date contained in the row underneath.
I want to be able to search the range of cells and find it in the contents of a cell and return the corresponding date from the row below.
Excel 2010 A B C D E F G
[Code]...
Row A4:O4 is the range of cells to be tested. Row A5:O5 are the corresponding dates. Cell B1 is the value I want to search for and B2 is where the date I would like to appear.
In the example shown I'd like 01-Sep to appear in B2.
I have two sheets. One is named sheet1 where all my data is and sheet2 where all my values are. I want to do a find a replace on column N (sheet1) using the data in sheet2. Column A on Sheet2 has all the values that are found in column N and column B on Sheet2 has what the data should change to.
So for example:
Sheet1 says the following on column N: cat dog lion bear
Sheet2 says: Column A A1: Cat A2: Dog A3: Bear
Column B B1: 2 B2: 8 B3:15
I want the values on column N to be replaced with 2, 8, 15 and so forth. I use excel 2010.
I'd like to search for text and get the column character where the cell with the found text. The combination the two 'demands'/formulae into one are giving me problems. And the fact that the column character can exist out of two characters I cannot solve.
I can get the column number with HLookup right? and it gives me the column number, not the character. I can solve this partially (and ugly even more) with =Char(((Hlookup etc)+64 (letter before A))).
I've recently been making a macro in visual basic that loops through all my excel files and replaces an old company name to a new company name and It's working great, well except for one thing... It always misses one string in the file and it leaves me with 90% of the file corrected. I think that the string might be a part of a merged range so Range.Find is not able to find it. I was suggested to use this code:
[Code] ......
Because that's the code that is generated when using the replace function in MS Excel 2010, but I keep getting syntax errors?
I'm working in Excel 2010. I'm trying to create a dynamic range, using the OFFSET function. I've got it working beautifully but as soon as I save it and close the Name Manager the range stops working. When I go back into Name Manager I find all the cell references have changed (from C1:C600 to C1048572:C595 - or some other strange range).
P.S. What it's doing isn't so important as when the cell references are right it works. But just for full info: It's an OFFSET function, starting at A1. It will look at a list of companies and use a Match function to find out how many rows to offset (based on where the first instance of a particular company. And it uses the COUNTIF to make the range the same number of rows as there are entries for that company.
I'm using excel 2010. I'm working with columns of values where most of the values are numbers - which is fine, and there are some numbers that have a "p" at the start of them.
e.g. Column has 49, 52.2, p56.7, 34
OK, I want to preserve the 56.7 but I want to delete the "p". I'm thinking I've got a mental block as to how to delete the unwanted "p"s but I can't think of how to do it at the moment! My code goes as follows:
If Left(Cells(1,1),1) = "p" then 'delete the "p" and leave the remaining number in tact End if
I have an Excel sheet with lots of shortcuts in the first column. It's the entire shortcut, including the .lnk extension.
What I need to do is to be able to parse out the string to make the shortcut human readable when I create the hyperlink. I'm saving the output as HTML for a user to open these shortcuts. It's on an internal LAN & secure. Using various versions of Excel (2010, 2007 & 2003, predominately the first). Trying to make an ugly, 140+ character shortcut into a more readable form for web navigation purposes.
Up to a point, the shortcuts are similar: a123meworkfolder1folder2folder3shortcut1.lnk a123meworkfolder1folder4folder5shortcut1.lnk a123meworkfolder1folder6folder7shortcut1.lnk a123meworkfolder1folder8folder9shortcut1.lnk
The strings are the same up to the 7th occurrence of the "" character, but after that, the foldernames start to change & the shortcut may be down a level (an extra folder) or more. Also, the lengths of the strings change as well, so I can only do positional parsing up to a point.
I have a text box that is set to "=B1". B1 is a cell from an Access table import with memo format. The text memo is long, probably on average between 1000-2000 characters. I have set up the text box to automatically resize for the text, but the text stops at what I assume is 255 characters, even though cell B1 displays the entire memo.
How can I set it up so that this text box (or any other similar shape) displays the text and retains its resize/wrap property?
If I have a cell which begins with a few spaces and then has a character, how do I use the find function to see how many spaces until some character is present in the cell. The * does not work with this.
(I am using Excel version 14.0.7106 and MS Office Professional 2010.)
I have a macro in which I have named a range of numbers in a spreadsheet, used the "find" function to find a particular number in that range, and now would like to copy some information into a cell in the same row as the found number. However, when I try to move over to the cell that I'm copying to, it only goes to the 1st row in the range that I have defined.
Here's the portion of code I think you need to see. Everything works...it finds a match...but then I don't know what to do from there to get the information to the correct row:
'Grab the 1st project number Range("C8").Select Do Until ActiveCell.Value = "" If ActiveCell.Value "" Then prjnum = ActiveCell.Value Selection.Offset(0, 8).Select
Following the tips doesn't allow to remove a character.
I exported email addresses from Outlook and they have the following character ' in front of the email address.
Using Excel 2007.. it says :"check if your search formatting and criteria are defined correctly. If you are sure that matching data exists in this workbook, it may be on a protected worksheet. Excel cannot replace data on a protected worksheet"
So I made a new file, and copied and pasted the cells into the new spreadsheet.. same message.
I'm having trouble using the worksheet copy command in a VBA subroutine. I have the following line in my code:
[Code] ........
When I step through my code and execute this line, the sheet is copied as expected and put in the correct place, but then instead of the next line of code being highlighted, the pointer jumps to the first line of a function (in a different module) in my code.
I have a number of worksheets with data in various rows, all rows of data have UID's. I want to create a search function, which returns the location of the of the UID. Or better still the cursor will jump to the cell where the UID is located. It's very much like the way the 'Find & Replace' function works.
E.g. If I type the UID of 1234 into cell A1 I want to be able to press a 'Find' button (which will be located alongside cell A1) that will search the entire workbook for 1234.
I want to find a content of ActiveCell only in column "C", beginning from cell C4.What must be in Look in, and Look at?How to accomplish to match whole number,ex. "1" in cell with "1",no to find "1" in "123"
This function searches in whole sheet,but i need only in C column! Cells.Find(What:=ActiveCell, After:=[c4], LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:=False _ , SearchFormat:=False).Activate
I have various spreadsheets that get into infinite loops sometimes when I search for things. Hitting break breaks it, and the search window (find all) shows the same exact entry hundreds of times.
I'm looking to use the Find function in order to search through a protected worksheet. Currently I can use it to search, however, I am unable to click on the results to bring me to each instant.
In an Excel 2010 worksheet I use three columns. I need a user to be able to input a word or phrase into a cell or input box, and have Excel highlight that word or phrase every place it occurs only in column C.
Can I do that with conditional formatting? Or do I need to use a function? Or do I need a macro?
I have my data arranged in a table on sheet1 as shown below.
Columns B to H contain the hours each person normally works on the days of the week Sun to Sat. In columns I to O are the hours that each person has booked as holiday for that week.
On sheet2 I would like to be able to enter a holiday day in C1. In A3 to A15 I would then have a list of all the people who will be working on that day and in C3 to C15 have a list of the people who are on holiday so the output on sheet 2 would look like this.
Basically I'm after the formulas for A3 and C3 that can be copied down the column depending on how big my table gets. I am using Excel 2010.
I have sheet 1 that in cells V5:V20 is a data validation drop down box. In cells W5:W20 I have another data validation drop down box. On sheet 2 I have a table that in column A matches the data in the drop down box's in column V on sheet 1. Row 1 on sheet 2 data matches the data in the drop down boxes in sheet 1 cells W5:W20. What I'd like to do is on sheet 1 Cells Y5:Y20 have a VBA code to lookup the data in columns V and W from sheet 2 and return the value.
I am after tips on creating a macro in Excel 2010 where it will search a list of folder paths in a column on a spreadsheet and insert a jpeg within the sheet from that folder if it exists. If more than one jpeg exists i would like it to insert the first jpeg only. i have found tips where it will insert images if you know the filename, however I don't have this luxury as file naming routines vary from folder to folder the only constant is that the file is a .jpg format.
I am new to VBA and am having difficulties in getting a find function to successfully locate search criteria within cell. When the search criteria matches exactly that of the cell contents then the code works; however should the search criteria only form part of the total cell contents (such as a seach for "the" in a cell containing "the cat sat on the mat") the code doesn't recognise it.
Essentially, I need the code to search a range for the required string and if found within a cell activate that cell and populate a combobox with the full cell contents of the activecell.offset(0,-2).
The relevant section of code attached below:
Dim role_count as range Dim role as string
If Application.WorksheetFunction.CountIf(Range("Role_Count"), Role) 0 Then Range("role_count").Select Selection.Find(What:=Role, After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, LookAt:= _ xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:=False _ , SearchFormat:=False).Activate
