Extract Top 10 Customers From Single Pivot Table?

Jun 13, 2013

I have come across a situation where I am listing the top 10 customers based on their sales. I have a worksheet for each product I sell. I'm wondering if there is a way to write an excel formula to pull just the top 10 customers from just a single pivot table (respective to the product worksheet) instead of having to create a new pivot for every product and sort based on top 10 and then link to my spreadsheets?

Would like to know the number of unique customers (CUST_ID) have purchases and the sum of those purchases and how many transactions:

CUST_ID Sum of QTY Count of Transactions
50 $2000 1500

I cant seem to find how to do unique Cust using a pivot table - it just gives me a count of cust which is the same number as the number of transactions.

I have made a pivot table and I dlike to identify with a macro the documents with net value over 1000. Then extract these values next to the respective sales documents in an are near the pivot table somewhere. The fields are called Document and Sum of Net value. Of course the pivot is very variable one time it has 3000 records and another 5000.

Sorting Multiple Customers In A Single Cell

Aug 18, 2006

I am trying to figure out how I can sort multiple customers in a single cell, and then assign the customers to the outside salesman. The basic idea is in column A I have the customers for a specific job. Assume I have three customers (Alpha, Omega & Gamma) and they are all in ONE cell. I need to sort this and assign each customer to each of my outside salesmen (Bob, Ted, Fred) in another column. The other component to this question is that Bob, Ted & Fred may have MORE than one customer in that single cell........

Macro To Extract Tickers / Pivot Table

Oct 2, 2009

I need to manipulate some data in order to make it reasonable. I'm reading up on Macro's now in order to be able to do this stuff in the future, but I think macro's are a long term thing.

Actually before I go into that, is there any book one can recommend for macro's? I do have a friend's books, How to Do Everything with MS Office Excel 2003, MS Excel Bible 2003, and MS Office - Excel 2003 Formulas. Are these good or any other recommendations? In particular I would like some data to play around w/ so that when in the book they tel me to do something I actually have some data to manipulate. I imagine learning the basics of macro's will be easy enough, but as I understand it the real power of macro's comes from programming in VB, and I dont see how that can be covered in these books.

Now for the more specific questions -

My raw data looks like the attached excel file called Raw Data, I want it to end up as the other attached excel file called Result. How would I create a macro to read where the ticker begins and ends? Is there any way to do it w/o VB knowledge?

Raw Data:
[url]

Resulting Data:
[url]

More importantly, I want to be able to order the tickers by how many times they've been mentioned. For example in the second excel file called Result, Laura has been mentioned twice as often as anyone else. When I sort this list I want to sort by who's been mentioned the most. So I'd like to see 6 lines of her data, followed by the person mentioned the second most (if they had 5 lines, the next 5 should be them etc). For this one would pivot tables do the job, or do I need macro's for this as well?

Extract Data From Pivot Table VBA Or Formula?

The pivot table consists of employee name (John Smith), followed by class code and qty. I have a separate spreadsheet for each employee and what I need to be able to do is to extract the class & qty into these spreadsheets.

Pivot Table (count As A Single Fail Against The Associate)

Jan 27, 2010

I have a source data tab laid out like this:

QC Date.......Policy#......Associate.......Pass/Fail......1stError.....2ndError.....3rdError

QC'ers can enter up to 3 different error types committed on a single failed policy, thus the reason for 3 error fields, even though all 3 fields offer the same value list selections (ie ErrorTypeA, ErrorTypeB, ErrorTypeC......). A policy, whether it has one error or three errors assigned, should only count as a single fail against the associate.

My problem comes into play when attempting to pivot the data. I would ideally like to see the pivot table in this format:

(filter)Associate
(filter)QC Date
...
ErrorTypeA.......Count
ErrorTypeB.......Count
ErrorTypeC.......Count
ErrorTypeD.......Count

Where the "count" is the total number of occurances of that error type across all three error fields - 1stError, 2ndError, 3rdError.

But since 1st/2nd/3rd error fields are different columns, I am unable to do a single count.

My pivot ends up looking something like this:

1stError.....ErrorTypeA.......Count
1stError.....ErrorTypeB.......Count
1stError.....ErrorTypeC.......Count
1stError.....ErrorTypeD.......Count
Then repeated for the 2ndError and 3rdError fields.

Reverse Pivot Table :: Extract Data From Sheet

Apr 13, 2004

I need to extract data from a spreadsheet given to me by my client, the best way to describe what I want to do is "a reverse of a pivot table"

The source sheet is arranged as follows:

Column A: Employee name every 3rd row
Column B: Normal Time on row 2, time and a half on row 3, double time on
row 4, normal time on row 5, time and a half on row 6 etc etc
Column C to I inclusive: Number of hours worked (on that day)
Column J: Subtotal of the 7 days (columns C to I)
Column K to Column DZ: Repeats of Column C to J

Row 1: dates in columns C to DY (except for the weekly subtotals)

I have many spreadsheets like this that I would prefer to have the information in a simple list format with the fields: Name, Date, Rate
Class (Normal Time, Time and a Half etc), Hours. Is there a simple/quick way to extract this information into the above mentioned fields? Am i being stupid and missing a simple solution?

Multiple Pivot Tables - Single Table Of Source Data

Mar 9, 2014

I am trying to generate several pivot tables from one data source table. I have successfully created my first pivot table (A date field, and a water storage facility level reading) and subsequently a graph from this. I have worked out that I need to group my dates as I am supplied a daily reading, but only need monthly average. All worked great.

Now i need to create more pivot tables and graphs. The next one I want is to create one grouped by years. But when I create this new pivot table and change the grouping of the date field to yearly, it also changes the grouping on my first pivot table, which is undoing my work. How to tell excel that these pivots are independent, and I don't want them changing in unison? See screen grab of my source data and where I am up to...

Excel 2010 :: Pivot Table Reference Is Not Valid When Moving Data And Pivot Table Together?

Mar 19, 2013

On a worksheet, I created:

- a list of data
- a pivottable based on these data

When moving this worksheet this worksheet to another workbook, the pivot table can't refresh anymore. This throws an error message "Reference is not valid". To work around this problem I need to adapt the datasource. The same occurs if the list and the pivot table are on separate sheet, with the added strange behaviour that, when data an PT are split, it is not possible to move both sheet together.

This would not be a big issue if my problem had to be solved manually. The real problem is that I need to move the sheets from a C# program.

VBA - Adjust Pivot Table Included Fields To Match Another Pivot Table

Mar 14, 2013

I have a worksheet with two pivot tables, one of which is visible to the user. Ideally, the user should be able to change the "Row Label" field settings of the visible pivot table and then press an "update button" that then adds the same field to the second pivot table.

Ideally, the ordering of the fields should also be made similar between the two tables, though this is of less priority.

I imagine it would be something in the style of:

"If number of Pivot1 active row label fields = X then
Pivot 2.AddRowLabelField = Pivot1.RowLabelField(X)
end if"

Months To Be Sorted In Ascending Order In Pivot Table, Want To Use Multiple Colors In Pivot Charts

Sep 18, 2008

My input data for Pivot table has a column named "Month". The month values are like April 07, April 08, Nov07 in random order for period between Jan 07 to Aug 08.

When I create a pivot Table, this column is sorted alphabetically (April 07 is followed by April 08) but I need it to be sorted in the ascending order with respect to month (April 07 is followed by May 07).

I further use this data to plot a Pivot Chart. There is another issue here. I want to use separate colors for each series. I do not know how to achieve above 2 things.

Extract Text In Single Cell Based On Font Color

Aug 5, 2008

I have a cell that has a formula in it like PREM + PRDCMP + ACQ + DLR in a spreadsheet that looks like this:

PREM PRDCMP ACQ DLR VIP COMM TOTAL
2 1 3 4 6 5

PREM + PRDCMP + ACQ + DLR 2 1 3 4 10

where PREM + PRDCMP + ACQ are colored red and + DLR is colored blue. This formula is entered in that particular cell as a text string. I have a formula in the PREM column that says if the word PREM is located in the formula to the left (and it is), then put the value that is located right under the PREM column (2) in the blank cell next to the formula. So, in the above example, I have an IF statement that sees that PREM is in the formula to the left and so underneath the PREM column, next to the formula, it would place the number 2. Now, I need Excel to detect if any word in the formula text string is colored blue and if it is, to put a zero in that column. So, in the formula above, if + DLR is the only text that is blue, I want to have Excel add 2 + 1 + 3 only. I want to have Excel take any string out that might be colored blue, such as + DLR and return the value of zero for it. The purpose of the different colors in the formula is to distinguish which information is relevant and which information should be ignored. So, I'd like Excel to read the above formula and say put the PREM amount in the cell under PREM, put the PRDCMP amount in the cell underneath PRDCMP, put the ACQ amount in a cell under ACQ and put zero in the DLR column since it is colored blue. If any of them (PREM, PRDCMP, ACQ, DLR, VIP or COMM) are colored blue, I want Excel to put a zero in that column.

Pivot Table - Loop Through Pivot Item Children?

Jan 7, 2014

I'm not grasping the Pivot Table correctly. I've written code to create a sum of values based on a worksheet. Specifically:LocationIDDeptSum of Hours Worked. Location, ID and Dept are rows. This effectively provides the aggregate values that I need based on the row groupings. Here's where this is falling apart. I need to create a new worksheet based on these values. I assumed the three row values - Location, ID and dept - would be in a hierarchy. It's possible they are, I just can't figure out the object model.

When I loop through the PivotItems collection of the PivotFields("Location"), I get what I need. However, I'm unable to determine how to loop through the child values (just for that location). PivotFields("ID") returns all IDs. I can't figure out how to return only the child entries for each pivot item. GetPivotData hasn't been very useful for this. As far as I can tell, GetPivotData, while its return type is listed as Range, throws an error when more than one cell is returned. Worst case, I suppose I can just parse the data in the DataBodyRange of the pivot table - maybe not, I haven't tried that. I'm hoping there's a way to iterate through these collections, but based on what I've seen from Google searches, there may not be. Does my pivot table need to be rearranged? I suppose I could also just dump this data into a data table

Excel 2010 :: (VBA) Pivot Table And Pivot Cache?

Mar 13, 2014

My macro is designed to look at a summary source tab and create a new tab for each unique project number. It then creates a pivot table from five different source detail tabs and filters on the project number. If a tab already exists it selects the tab and moves on to the next project number. There are six pivot tables created for every project.

New data is added each month to the source tabs and I have a macro to delete all pivot tables and the macro will recreate the pivot tables when ran again.

Issue: Running out of resources At work I'm limited to the use of Excel 2010 (32bit) so I'm restricted on 2GB of memory. At home I ran the file successfully (64bit) and it was around 3GB of memory.

My macro creates a new pivot cache for every pivot table where as I'm trying to only use 6 pivot caches in my coding. I kill it half way through and it's around 100+ caches causing unnecessary usage of memory.

Fix / Solution:

Correctly code the vba to only create six caches and code the rest the pivot tables to use that cache. The only difference in the Pivot Tables is that it’s sorted on the Project Number.

Code:

Dim VBAPPPC As PivotCache
Dim VBAAPPC As PivotCache
Dim VBAPRPC As PivotCache
Dim VBAEXPC As PivotCache
Dim VBAMJPC As PivotCache
Dim VBAIVPC As PivotCache
Dim VBAPT As PivotTable
