This is a win/loss ratio so to have it as a percentage I would have to divide the first number by the sum of the two numbers so 78/114 = 68.4% How would you do this with a formula?
I came up with this that isn't quite right, because RIGHT and FIND don't work together.
=LEFT(A1,FIND("-",A1,1)-1)/(LEFT(A1,FIND("-",A1,1)-1)+RIGHT(A1,FIND("-",A1,1)-1))
There must be a smarter way of doing this. TY
I use these and related functions (Format, Right$ etc) in my VBA code. Works perfectly on my machine, butwhen a colleague opens the sheet I get repeated compile errors - "Can't find project or library". I have checked all the references and tey are all there, so much scratching of head.
Daily We have to search the similar numbers in a enormous database (around 35000 - 45000). Base will vary daily.
The Numbers in 2nd Row of 'wish sheet' has to be compared with 'base sheet' (B,G & L columns in Base sheeet) and the similar numbers has to be copied down from corresponding 3rd row. single character variants and double charcter varients need to be found. box is made to differentiate single and double variants. The test file may be useful to identify my problem.
It is very difficult to use find Numbers manualy. We have been helped by the experts on various circumstances in the past. So, We again seeking help from our senior brothers here.
I need help creating a formula to find data in one column that starts with different letters and counts them up.
For example one column would contain the words amoung others: DPDE DNPD EPRO EOTH YBRC YUND
In the other column I want to count up the amount of times a word starts with the letter D or E or Y. The count comes from another spreadsheet, which the CMRF Tool (See attachment) is pasted at the bottom of.
The Monthly case report file is the file I want to get the count from. These would come from Column O once the data is there. The count would end up in column D of the CMRF tool which is pasted at the bottom of the monthly case report file.
I have two different lists that have some similar text and some irrelevant text. What I need to do is move the matching words from column B to the same row in column a and leave blank the rows that have no similar words. Column A will not move ...
I am working with financial data and am exposed to a problem that excel formula cannot solve. I am very new to VBA and would like some assistance please. I have in one excel column the list of maturities in dates eg. EN02, EN03, EN04 etc (EN=January). I have in another column the corresponding prices for these maturities. What I would like to do is compute the returns on similar maturities and paste the returns in the returns column. I can use a formula for this when the consecutive maturities are the same. The problem arises when I want excel to find the previous similar maturity, which may be 5 cells or so before. How do I write a macro to find the similar maturity, compute the returns and place that returns value in the returns column.
I would like to find the value from Sheet2 Column1 in sheet1 Column1 and return value from Sheet1 Column2 and Column3 into Sheet2 Column2 and Column3
And if it doesn't find anything just return Not Found
The problem that a Vlookup is not working for me is because I want it to be the exact text from sheet2 column1 but in sheet1 column 1 it should not be exact as it might have some extra text as seen in the illustration above
Obscure lines of info which I'm trying to break up into pieces. Being able to find from the right instead of left would be REALLY handy. See attached example with details and example!
I am compiling a database of tennis stats for various players. I input the set scores (like 6-4) and I then need excel to find "-", go to the left and right, and add up all cells containing these scores on a full row.
For example:
6-4, 6-4, 6-4 would become 18-12
I can do this by using "find" and left/right. The problem is, the more records I add, the more I have to keep changing the formula.
[Code] .........
Is there a faster way to do this, preferably without using macros.
I need to add the SUBSTITUTE function to this but can't figure out where it goes if somebody could point me in the right direction please? My substitute formula is SUBSTITUTE(L5,"car","train").
I am trying to find some missing values compared to 6 base values. For instance, I have a sheet with some names translated to another language, I am trying to find the languages some names have not been translated too.
For example, if I have six languages, Arabic, Japanese, Russian, Chinese-Simplified, Chinese- Traditional, and Korean to compare too, I want to find any names that are not translated in certain languages.
Sample:
John Japanese John Chinese - Simplified John Korean Martin Arabic Martin Chinese - Simplified Martin Russian Ramon Arabic Ramon Russian Sam Arabic Sam Chinese- Traditional
Im trying to pull together a formula to achieve the below. What i have is a spreadsheet to be used by staff in different countries so im looking to make it easy to modify the categories used without the user needing to do anything complex with formulas.
The right hand side of my file (C:E) shows a code for each year we have covered a country with the year as a prefix (2014 - Blah). The left (A:B) is a summary showing the latest year we covered that country.
Current formula: {=IF(COUNTA(C2:D2)<=0,"","✔-"&MAX(LEFT(C2:D2&"0",4)*1))}
The current formula works fine if you set the columns to where the data actually is but for ease of use i need it to look at the data in rows 1:2 and match up the Continent/Country and then MAX the dates.
I'm looking for a way to split a cell with text into two cells. The first cell can only contain up to 40 characters, the rest needs to go in the second cell. However, I don't want the text to be split in the middle of a word. So basically, if the text is in cell A1, I need to find the closest space to the left of position 40 in A1, and move anything to the right of this position to B1. Example:
Original text: A1: One green apple and a bucket of small onions that smell nice
I want to avoid this: A1: One green apple and a bucket of small on B1: ions that smell nice
I want to achieve this: A1: One green apple and a bucket of small B1: onions that smell nice
Im going to try to make this as clear as possible. I cant use my actual data because it wouldnt make any sense to anyone so Ive made up an example problem. Here goes...
Lets say in Sheet 1 I have two descending columns of data. Column A is MODEL of Vehicle (Civic for example). Column B is vehicle identification number (xxx for example). Sheet two has 4 columns of data, but only one is really required for this example. Cell A1 is the MAKE of vehicle (Honda for example). Directly below that in Cell A2 is the MODEL of the vehicle (Civic). There are then a few rows of empty space until it gets to the next vehicle MAKE and MODEL.
So in Sheet1 there is a long list of MAKE's in ColumnA and VIN's in ColumnB. Sheet2 Has a long list of MAKE's and MODEL's in ColumnA and random data in other columns.
What I want to do is assemble a Macro to start in Sheet1-A2, read the MODEL then copy the corresponding Vehicle Identification Number in B2. I then want it to go to Sheet2-A2 and start searching downward until it comes across a matching MODEL. Once it finds the match I want it to step downward 2 cells and paste the Vehicle Identification Number. Then return to Sheet1-A3, and repeat the process until EOF.
I have a 2010 excel sheet containing 14 columns and 45082 rows in total. I am quite illiterate when it comes to writing macros but I know that what I need can be achieved with a set of codes.
To be more clear, I inserted two tables below. The first one represents the current data structure, and the second one is the way I want my data to look like.
Current data structure looks like Variable 1 Variable 2 Variable 3
I am having trouble filling a formulae series to the left on one spreadsheet, the fomulae being references to another sheet.
For example, I have two sheets 'Mtce Options' and 'Base Case'. In 'Mtce Options' I have the following formulae
A B C 1='Base Case'!A15='Base Case'!D15='Base Case'!G15
I want to fill to the left, incrementing the column references by a factor of 2 each time, eg. next two should be ='Base Case'!J15 and ='Base Case'!M15.
However, if I autofill to the left by highlighting A1, B1 and C1 or just B1 and C1 all I get is an inappropriate reference such as ='Base Case'!D15 or ='Base Case'!F15, respectively, in D15.
I have x coordinates in column 1 with coresponding y coordinates in column 2. From my data of x,y coordinates I want to find points with similar y values. In my data I have defined groups of numbers, i.e. I have a set of numbers with y values around 30 (+-10), then a new group with y values around 60 (+-10), and so on... Sometimes the groups are not totaly separeted, there could be a few points with y values between 30 and 60. These points can be grouped with the closest group of coordinates (30 or 60). Each group of x,y coordinates could be copypasted in the columns to the right (columns 3 and up).
So what I want to do is find a group of coordinates. This group will have at least 40 individual points +-10 from a group mean. The coordinates need to be sorted out from the data and put in seperate columns.
I am trying to find the median of a set of numbers on a column that correspond to dates on the left column. I want a monthly median average of the numbers on the right which correspond to the dates on the left. So for example. I want to make an equation that gives me the median of all the numbers on the right if they fall within the range of a certain month(in this case October). I've tried These:
Items in Column A1 are calculated by (B2/4+5)*1.4 Items located under the columns 2000, 3000, 4000, etc... 10,000 are calculated by taking the top number, eg 2000/(A1 cell value)+the column B number. 2000/7+0 = 286 (rounded numbers)
I need to find an way to look up for x number (2000,3000,4000, etc...) find the smallest number in that column and then return the value in column A1.
Cell A1 Number >2000300040005000600070008000900010000 70 2864295717148571000114312861429 84 24236148059971883795610751194
I have data arranged in cells A1 to Z1 as Name1, Amount1, Name2, Amount2, Name3, Amount3, etc. Is there a formula that can determine the name that corresponds to the maximum amount in the row?
As you can see in the example below, in column B I have a list of vendor names, some of which are similar but not identical. (For Example, in one instance a vendor will be called "Ford Motor Co.", while in another it will be called "Ford Motor Inc.".
I need to populate column C, which at every instance where two plants (listed in column A) have similar vendor names in Column B, a universal name will be assigned and recorded in column C for each of the similar names.
HOpefully it is clear as shown below.......

I have created a sheet that contains a new diet program, calculated down to the precise calorie required for my training routine. Please see below for an example of one of my daily meals:

I need a formula that will help me to create a weekly shopping list (as the values in the example above will change on a regular basis). So I need to take all values from the from columns A & B, multiply them by 5 and then show me the totals in another sheet.
Similarly, I need to do the same with columns E & F, only they need to be multiplied by 2. The totals then need to be added to give me the required amount (in grams) for the week.
=ISNUMBER(MATCH(X1,A:A,0)) where X1 is cell you are checking for a match to check and see if there are duplicates in 2 rows. Is there anyway to check to see if a cell contains a string of numbers. Example: Cell A1 has 0000402502LK and Cell A2 has 402502. Is there anyway to get this to show up as true since the 402502 in contained in the string in A1?
I want to delete rows that are a subset of any other row. Not manually, as there are thousands of rows. For example, in the attached file, row 4 is a subset of row 5 (also row 12 of row 13, row 14 of row 15, and both rows 21 and 22 of row 23).
