Find Fields That Start With Characters Entered In Search Box
May 16, 2014
Is there a way to force Excel to look at only the first characters in a field when searching?
If I use:
MySearch = Range("C3").Value
Cells.Find(What:=MySearch, After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, LookAt _
:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:= _
False, SearchFormat:=False).Activate
It will find any instance of the characters entered in C3; however, I want it to find only fields that START with those characters. E.g. if I enter TRA in the search box it will come up with CITRATE when I want TRACLEER, etc.
Column J is the date opened. Column T is the date closed. Of course, column T will have no date if still open. Column K and O may or may not have text. Column AF6 has a date, mm/dd/yyyy, that is entered/changed depending on the search.
What I need is a formula in AF8 that will look at the date entered in AF6 and find a match in columns J and T. Then it will look to see if there is text in K and O. If so, populate AF8 with that text.
As in the attachment example, I use a database (sheet2, where data start from row 3, and headers are in rows 1,2). I've named it as "Data" with a dynamic range name (formula: FFSET(Sheet2!$A$3;0;0;COUNTA(Sheet2!$A:$A)-2;COUNTA(Sheet2!$2:$2)). When I enter a month and a year, in sheet1, I want to get for that year's month:
1) The working days 2) The sums of the fields Totals and each of the other (AA, BB, CC etc.).
what I am trying to do is take the number in the G column multiply it by 2.9% and add 0.30. For instance if 20.00 is in the G2 cell, the number I want the formula to produce is .88
the formula works for me but what happens is the rest of my sheet that does not have any numbers in the G column gets filled with .30
How do I prevent the formula from calculating if the G column is blank?
I have a spreadsheet with many many worksheets & on each of those worksheets many many postcodes.
I am looking for a way where I can have a list of postcode stored once somewhere (in excel, word or whatever) & then when we type postcodes into the Excel spreadsheet & click whatever to start the macro or run the code it will refer to where I have the postcodes saved & then highlight any that match on the worksheet page.
I'm currently creating an inventory tracking spreadsheet for my restaurant.
I'm using ="*"&A(x)&"*" to create the necessary barcodes. Some of my inventory numbers have leadings zeros that need to be included. The formula above is eliminating the 0's and how to get them to show. I've tried a custom number formatting but that isn't working for me.
Need a formula which will allow an error message to pop up in a cell if more than 16 Characters are entered into another cell?
However, I cant put an actual limit on the characters for this cell as if another cell is populated with anything other than bacs then it can allow more than 16. Therefore my formula needs to state something like :
trying to limit the number of characters entered in a cell.
I clicked on Custom then =LEN(A10)=6 which works when i enter more or less than 6 characters, however it lets you paste in something which has more than 6 charters.
What I am looking to do is search using a user input and select all the rows that contain the entered search text.
I have 4 sheet workbook, columns are the same across them all, and what i require is to be able to take a text input from a user, maybe what column to search, and in what sheet. Then search the relevant sheet for matches. Once found the record that contains the match is to be copied to another sheet where filters can e applied. There will be multiple records selected for each search.
I am a green as green can be beginner to VBA coding. My question is, I created a text box on my user form so the user can input a 'billing code' and when they hit submit on the user form, the vba will search the spreadsheet and land on the data entered in the text box.
I am trying to create a combobox to filter a set of data by the month that is entered.
The below code worked fine when there was just the month entered, but now all the entries in the sheet are in the format 01 January 2009. So I need a section of code which will search for the combobox value as part of a string in my range.
I have a sheet A1:R456 provided from an outside source, with many large text entries. In some of them appear various ascii strings such as, but not exclusively: •
It appears these have replaced apostrophe's, dashes, and other types of punctuation and formatting (bullets, etc).
I have used the Find (Ctrl-F) to locate some, but it only works if you know what you're looking for. According to Excel HELP! :o Clean() only strips the lower 32 ascii codes, and I'm pretty sure these are at the high end of the ascii chart.
I don't want to remove them, I want to replace them, but I'm not sure if it should be an apostrophe, a dash, or whatever. So I'd be happy to find them and I'll fix it as best I can.
Any VBA code to locate all cells in a range that contain any high-order ascii (say above 127) and fill with yellow?
I have a worksheet that I produced from optical character recognition, and there are a lot of funky characters that I need to get rid of. One is a line break or carraige return (I assume it's the same character that I could insert by entering ALT+ENTER). How do I search for this special character to replace it? How do I identify what that invisible character is?
I have about 700 cells I want to interrogate. Within each cell the following text appears “Estimate – BOLB/02/1234 – Some more text here”. I want to search all the cells and delete the cell contents but leave the “BOLB/02/1234”.
The problem I have is that the string is different in each cell but the format is the same. It always starts with BOLB followed by /, followed by 2 numbers, followed by / followed by 4 numbers i.e. BOLB/**/****.
I want to search a string for specific characters. f.e. Begin = "bfPaa2" I want to look for "P" So, the answer has to be: Letter = "P" after searching the string
I purchased the book from Mr.Excel and got it last week called VBA and Macros for Microsoft Excel. I can't seem to find the code for macros to search through the cells and then either change the cell colour to highlight the cells that contains an alphabetical character. I am trying to remove all the characters in the cells so only the numbers are left over.
I have done a search on carriage returns/characters and what has been suggested is not working. I have BOTH carriage returns in the cell and also the boxes (that I assume are also carriage returns. I tried the substitute formula (=substitute(cellref,char(10),)) in excel but it only removes the alt+enter carriage return. I tried the various suggestions of find & replace but the chr$..etc did not work! Is there a formula to clear both in one (not a macro!)..?
I have a workbook with two sheets, one used for referance (Column A - Product SKUS, B - Product Description and C - Carton Quantities) - Sheet 1
The other sheet I would like to import incoming shipments. (Column A - Product SKUS, B - Product Description, C - Quantity Ordered and D - No of Cartons) - Sheet 2
What I need to do is find out how to get Excel to find and match up the SKUs in Col A and then dividing Sheet 2's column C by Sheet 1's column C to give the number of incoming cartons of each product in Sheet 2's Column D
I have a sheet with Names in it. I need to look those names up and find which org they belong to. The problem is the the names have many characters after them, and many names belong to a few orgs, with a the rest belonging to many orgs. (See below)
I have been trying to get a Vlookup to work, but since it can't go left, it won't look up the orgs that don't own at least three names. And I can't get the search to work on the names.
I have a column of values of peoples initials and I want to cound how many times one persons initials occur in those cells. I can do this if the cells just contain one person i.e. "CH" or "DH" but if the cell has two or more peoples initials i.e. "CD DH" I can't do it as it only matches the exact search criteria.
How can I total the numebr of times a required set of initials appears in a specific column of cells? Not bothered is it requires a macro or a formulae, just can't seem to figure this one out.
There are four data worksheet. Each share a common column data set; ITEM NUMBER. Is there a way to create a macro so that when you enter an ITEM NUMBER into a textbox on the "Output sheet" page, it will automatically gather all rows from all worksheets that is associated with that ITEM NUMBER?
Also, on worksheet 3, the ITEM NUMBERS have an extension that defines the type. Can a wildcard be setup so that it will only match the first six characters of the cell?
I want to put "Jan" (as in January) in a cell on Sheet1 and in cell A1. In cell A2 I want to dispay the start of the month and in cell A3 the end. So if I change A1 to "Feb" or any other month it will display the correct start and end dates.
I then want to use either the month or the dates to do a SUMIF statement. It a simple one like -
=IF(C5="","",SUMIF(April!R:R,"="&C5,April!G:G))
But I don't want April in the formula as I just want to update the cell in A1 to read in the data for a different month. BTW, April is on another sheet along with a sheet for each month.
I have data as shown in the attached image file. Though the example image shows that the data starts from cell D8 but it could start from J30 or any other cell for that matter.
I have a list of employees and the dates on which they were absence from work for a set period (i.e. one month). Some employees have been off for a day, some for longer. This data has been pulled from a large datasheet and now needs formatting to add in the start and end dates of absence, ready to upload to a payroll system.
The Problem: I have been able to get a macro working on a simple list of names, however the problem arrises where I have 2 employees off on the same day - I was using a loop to find the date last used, but this no longer works.
My Request: A copy of the worksheet in question can be found here : http://www.carpe-luna.com/other/AbsenceQueryHelp.xls
But I'll try and describe the layout as much as possible This is how my raw data is set up. (Up to row 50 but potentially more)
I have a two columns that I would like to use to calculate/identify the value of the most recent entry.
Column A has dates in ascending order, historical, current and future (say, A3:A300. Column B has sporadic entries (many blank cells) from B3:B300.
I would like a formula in B1 to display the value of the most recent entry in Column B (highest row number), and a bonus would be if cell A1 was able to identify the date of that most recent entry.
I have a querry- file search application macro which searches all directories and subdirectories found within the provided string path and brings in specific data from spreadsheets in those directories. I would like to have the ability to exclude some of the subdirectories which are currently being querried.
I'm wondering if it is possible to add additional code that will allow me to either include or exclude specific directories being querried.
