Find Start Of Data
May 23, 2007I have data as shown in the attached image file. Though the example image shows that the data starts from cell D8 but it could start from J30 or any other cell for that matter.

View 9 RepliesI want to put "Jan" (as in January) in a cell on Sheet1 and in cell A1. In cell A2 I want to dispay the start of the month and in cell A3 the end. So if I change A1 to "Feb" or any other month it will display the correct start and end dates.
I then want to use either the month or the dates to do a SUMIF statement. It a simple one like -
=IF(C5="","",SUMIF(April!R:R,"="&C5,April!G:G))
But I don't want April in the formula as I just want to update the cell in A1 to read in the data for a different month. BTW, April is on another sheet along with a sheet for each month.
I have a list of employees and the dates on which they were absence from work for a set period (i.e. one month). Some employees have been off for a day, some for longer. This data has been pulled from a large datasheet and now needs formatting to add in the start and end dates of absence, ready to upload to a payroll system.
The Problem:
I have been able to get a macro working on a simple list of names, however the problem arrises where I have 2 employees off on the same day - I was using a loop to find the date last used, but this no longer works.
My Request:
A copy of the worksheet in question can be found here : http://www.carpe-luna.com/other/AbsenceQueryHelp.xls
But I'll try and describe the layout as much as possible
This is how my raw data is set up. (Up to row 50 but potentially more)

In col A I have various text codes in no particular order: i.e.cell A2 is PM-A01, cell A3 is BTC05, cell A4 is PM-B00, etc. The first two positions are always alphabetic. I want to sum all the numbers in column B whose adjacent column A text starts with "PM".
I tried =IF(match("PM*",A2:A100,0),b2,"") but just get "NA"
Is there a way to force Excel to look at only the first characters in a field when searching?
If I use:
MySearch = Range("C3").Value
Cells.Find(What:=MySearch, After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, LookAt _
:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:= _
False, SearchFormat:=False).Activate
It will find any instance of the characters entered in C3; however, I want it to find only fields that START with those characters. E.g. if I enter TRA in the search box it will come up with CITRATE when I want TRACLEER, etc.
I am looking to fill in data in a column C that is in between a start and end "trigger" in a separate column B with a constant value (10). Additionally I would like to have a constant value (50) populate another column for a count of 5 cells from the End "trigger".

For some reason my data validation cell is not working when I first open up the spreadsheet.
I have to go to data validation, open it and just hit ok, then I am able to use my drop down list.
My data is this
"=OFFSET(name,MATCH(LEFT(B2,LEN(B2)),LEFT(address,LEN(B2)),0),0,SUMPRODUCT(--(LEFT(address,LEN(B2))=B2)),1)"
I have a data validation list does nothing upon start up (not working). The formula is:
=OFFSET(E$1:E$5,MATCH(C94,LEFT($B$3:$B$87,LEN(C94)),0)+2,0)
If I go into data validation and just click OK (leave formula as is), it starts working again, but the next time I start up the same thing happens.
can anyone help me how to create a macro which will copy range of data based on a criteria? I have a worksheet which contains dates on column C rows C30:C64, dates would start from march 29 to may 2. how can I copy the range of data from April 1 to April 30? the criteria which will be copied will always be the start of the of the month up to the end of the month...meaning if the dates placed is like April 26 to June 6, it would automatically extract the range for May 1 to May 31 and place this on another sheet.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am brand new to using macro in excel. I have a report that is generated every month (looks like sheet 1) and I use that data to create an analysis report (sheet 2). Each month forecast is replaced by actual for the month that just finished, I have tried to use macro recorder to make this more automated as every month I copy the forecast down and the actuals in and then readjust my totals and add in the now 12th months forecast, but I have had no luck.

I have this code, but it doesnt paste the data, its only left empty. I want it to paste in columns C and D from row 15 and down as far as there is data to paste, aprox 5-7 rows...
1. start at home position (yup can be done )
2. select the whole column or row (again can be done )
3. scan through from 1 end to other to find the first non empty cell ???
i have a situation where i just want to copy data from another app open the sheet up and paste the data anywhere i want.
then have the macro find the 1st (or last) cell of any row or column and give me the cell reference.
I can for a for loop but going for 1 to the end of a column ?? and multiple that n times well something quicker can be done surely??
what i was thinking of was something like selecting a column then testing the column as a whole for a cell with something in it be it text space ( i takeit a cell with a space is non empty ie testing with isempty on such a cell would be false? ) or numbers.
I am trying to write a spreadsheet to accomplish the following function. One column (column a) will be data in which there will be consecutive entires of the same value. There will be a seperate column (column b) of data which is related to the first. I want to create a third column which calculates the difference in the values in column b, which correspond with the first row, and last row of a consecutive block of column A values.
I was thinking the simplest method would be to calculate a given row's difference between the first row of the block. The only problem Im having is determining where a block begins, since the will be multiple occurances of blocks of data.
I am reporting on the amount of certificates issued over a period of time. Basically the government stopped released data on the amount of one type of certificate being issued during this period and started releasing data on another type. I am having trouble displaying this other data which starts around half way into the time period. So all the data starts in June 2010... but this other data starts in June 2012.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a range of data that has been collected by date starting in H4 across several columns. This means that my entries start at different points in each row i.e. -
Row 4 first entry Column AJ
Row 5 first entry Column K
Row 6 first entry Column AB
Using vba is it possible to find the first entry in Row 4 and copy it and all the figures following it in that row to K4 on Sheet2, and then row 5 to K5 on Sheet2 and so on?

I am looking to have the data ranges in tab 'Type' update automatically in 'Output' for a particular start date. So for example if I enter LBO into cell E3 in the 'Output' tab it will input the data range for LBO from tab 'Type' but from a specific start date.
I know I can achieve part of this via LookUp functions but it is the start date that has me stumped.
In my attachment I am trying to identify rows within Table 2 that do not fit in with Table 1. For example in Table 2, Row 16 has a Start Date of 17.11.2010 and an End Date of 13.11.2011 for ID number 151. This record has to be shown as "OK" because it fits into the date range of Row 103 of Table 1 i.e. Table 1 Row 103 has a Start Date of 01.01.2010 and an End Date of 28.02.2013 for ID 15. In other words the Start Date of Table 2 Row 16 is GE the Start date of Table 1 Row 103, and the End Date of Table 2 Row 16 is LE the End Date of the same Row 103 of Table 1, therefore this reocrd is OK.
Row 14 of Table 2 needs to be shown as "NOT OK" because it has a Start Date of 12.01.2013 and an End Date of 31.03.2013 for ID 15 and this doesn't fit any date range of any Row in Table 1 for ID 15.
In the file attached there is only the data to look at, though file is little bit lager.
Now in cell G10 I've got the stock forecast in 3 months time, this stock forecast is calculated from a date rounded to the closest month (according to my criteria), then the formula looks at the reference number cell D1 to work out the formula. All the steps are in the file.
In order to be more accurate my boss and I want to use the exact date, so that delete all the round month process. My intention is to use the day of the date and then make a fraction of the months to calculate the average. Taking into account that a month have as an average of 30.4166 days.
In the file I did an example, to clarify my messy explanation.
Cells B2, C2, D2 won't be needed in order to do so.
Please have a look at the file. At the end my intention is to to such a formula or a similar one. The formula should be an automatic one when typing dates in cell A10
The result of it is in row 31 and 32.

When a change is made in cell L11, cell N11 should be locked automatically for typing. This is true for the cells between L11:L25, and cells N11:N25.
I have been trying to come up with a code that will:
1 - start my macro when f.ex. L11 is > 0
2 - lock N11 when L11 is filled out
3 - unlock N11 when the input in L11 is deleted
This is my attempt so far to put together a code:

We're trying to use one template to enter data with users being able to start entry from a number of different starting points. this changes they way the look-ups have to work. The attached sample explains it a whole lot better.
View 2 Replies View RelatedData validation in an Excel 2010 workbook.
I want the date input to be restricted a start date and an End date specified in two cells on the sheet. However, when I set up the Data Validation, ANY date will be accepted.
As an example cell Z1 contains the date 1/3/2014 and Cell Z2 contains the date 31/3/2014, so in the Data Validation box, the Start Date is referenced to Z1 and the End Date is referenced to cell Z2.
But I can enter 1/9/2020 and the Data Validation happily accepts that date.
I need to calculate the percentage of cells in one column that have data in them compared to those that do not. This is easy enough to do by itself but here's where it gets tricky for me. I need this percentage calculated only when cells in a different column contain data.
Here's the specifics. All of the row and column references are exactly what I'm looking to have in my worksheet. If A5:A200 contain any value then I want to know the % of the cells in F5:F200 that have a value in them compared to the same number in F5:F200 that contain no value. I would like the answer to show up in B2.
Part of the issue is that cells A5:A200 already have a formula in them so I think that would count as a value. The one thing that might help is the fact that A5:A200 values that I'm looking for ALWAYS start with TN so that could be used as the search function. The reason why I need to base it on a value in A5:A200 is that the sheet is blank until I enter data in the rows. I can't have the blank rows below the last data that I've entered on the sheet count towards the percentage that I'm looking for.
Basically it's a sheet that I enter installations and service calls on. The information always has a TN# associated with it. Which through a formula is automatically populated in the same row in the A column. I track the installation or service call and when it's completed I enter a completion date in the F column in the same row.
I am trying to be able to keep track of the percentage of jobs completed (completion date entered in column F) compared to incomplete (cells in column F that have no completion date) but it has to only look at rows that actually have information entered in them which I think should be done by column A. column D5:D200 is where I enter the main information and there is no formula entered in the cells in column D so if it's easier to base it on that column then that's fine.
I want find the data in some rows that same with one or more cell and automatically fill the data. And for more details, I have attached the examp file (Examp.xls).Antoni
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an excel workbook with 2 worksheets. One worksheet shows the MASTER LIST of COMPLETE Customer Names (e.g. ABB Supplies Incorporated). The other worksheet has information on customers but the customer names typed in are incomplete (e.g. ABC Supplies). I need a macro that would look do a comparison of the customer names in the 2nd worksheet to the Master List worksheet and pull the data (complete name, address, etc.) for those that would match (partial match since company name is 2nd worksheet is usually incomplete).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want the script to find if the value entered in the form is matching the values in column 'A' in the database and if it matches then it needs to select the cell as active cell - to populate the form details. And if there is no matching value found, the script needs to select the last empty cell of the column 'A' to populate the data entered in the form.
1) Form has 10 different fields that needs to be filled by the user.
2) Field 1 - is a text box for 'Request #' to be entered by the user.
3) After filling in all the fields - once clicked on OK, the form should search for the the 'request #' entered on the form in the database (Form and the database are in the same workbook).
4) If the 'Reqeust #' in the Column 'A' matches the the 'Request #' entered in the form, then the matching cell should be selected (Activecell -Were the data can be overwritten, with the new entry)
5)If there is no matching 'Request #' found in the database, the script should loop to select the next available blank cell in column 'A'. So that the form data can be entered.
I am trying to create a formula, but my knowledge of excel formulas is very new! I am trying do create an excel formula which calculates the difference in video view data which I enter, comparing today to yesterday to see the growth.
My column A is dates. My column B is video data.
Is there a way Excel can work out the TODAY date's data and minus YESTERDAY date's data to find the growth?
My thinking is that this would look something like the following, but I'm not sure how it would be written in Excel's formua:
Where Column A is = TODAY (), conduct sum where TODAY () minus data from yesterday (TODAY () -1).
-Find TODAY ()
- FInd TODAY'S associated data
- Find YESTERDAY or TODAY -1
- FInd YESTERDAY'S associated data
- Minus Yesterday from Today to find the difference.
The 1st set is in a column. Nice & tidy all twelve characters in length & alpanumeric
zx0123123123
zz0123123124
zy0123123129
The second set is a mess, taken from a lotus notes inbox from the subject line off an email, eg. there Blah blah zz0123123124 etc etc. What I want to do is do a reconcilliation between the two with a lookup, but have no idea which route to go down to get round the messy data. I have been using =IF(ISNA(MATCH(A1,'[spreadsheet to lookup to.xls]sheet1'!$A:$A,0))," No match"," Match")
but here the data is clean. I have searched teh forum ;o) DaveH & found something about > Instr() but this can't be used in formulas..
I have a table with 500 entries which is some physical properties for some chemicals. What I am needing to do is get something to find out what chemical formula the user has typed in another cell on a separate sheet, then VBA finds the component on this table and picks out information from columns within that row. Some of that data will then be used to do a calculation. The user can select up to 20 components, so VBA needs to be able to do it for 1 or anything in between 20 components. The data which I need to use for further processing is within columns D to J.
