View 9 RepliesI have 2 different sets of data: temperature data recorded at meteo-stations defined by latitude / longitude, and major world cities also defined by latitude / longitude.
After the user chooses the station's coordinates, temperature data is pulled out from the first data set; this works! However, I would like to be able to provide information about the closest city to the chosen meteo-station from the second data set.
File attached with sample data sets.
I've been using =TRIM for a while... but just tried FIND "space bar" REPLACE "nothing" and it works fine and takes about 1/10 the time.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have some code, in one part of it I am storing a number (between 1 and 8) as Integer. Is it possible to reference this variable to draw some rectangles on a sheet, sort of
"If MonitorDetail (this is the name of the variable) .value = 2 then
Here I place the code to draw the rectangle on the page. The macro currently stops at Monitordetail with a error telling me its a "Invalid Qualifier".
I just want to ask the user to enter the date in a mm/dd/yy format, however, the date received is some how changing.
For example I execute the following code and get 8/01/14 instead of 8/21/14
[Code].....
I have even tried pulling the date from a formatted cell with no luck.
I am trying to find out if it possible to directly "access" (no play on words here) data stored on MS ACCESS by using Excel's formulas.
I have a set of tables stored on a Microsoft ACCESS 2010 database, and I want to use Excel to analyze that data, using formulas, such as SUMIF.
Is it possible, once I have established an Jet OLEDB connection from Excel to Access, to then directly exploit the data stored on Access without having to copy the data to Excel, and then use it.
I would like Excel to solely act as a tool to analyze, not to store data.
I am trying to write a macro to transfer patient personal data onto a database.
On sheet 1 the user inputs the patient surname, forename, date of birth, date of test and the test results.
On sheet 2 is the database, where patient surname, forename and date of birth is stored in columns A, B and C respectively. The remainder of the columns on each row is available for scoring test results.
What I would like the macro to do is as follows:
•Read the patient surname as input on sheet 1
•Check on sheet 2 if that surname already exists
•If it does, check if the forename and date of birth also match to sheet 1 for that particular entry.
•If a match is found then copy the test results into a column on that particular row. E.g. could be copied into column D.
•If no match is found, then all the data is entered as a new row on the database (I’ve written the code for this bit but thought I should add it in for clarity)
This will then allow all test results for a particular patient to be read off the same row in the database.
I have made a Rota of sorts using Excel 2013 Desktop Edition for my charities volunteers (and stored it as a shared file via office 365 server that they can download and edit) and this rota is populated by our volunteers manually. Each day our controller needs to check the file to see who is on duty at that time.
How the Rota is populated.(the bit i managed to do myself)
The volunteer (Person A in this example) would open the excel file and go to the month they wish to choose a shift for (ref worksheet: FEB in this example). They would then pick a shift that suits them and click on the cell (ref: F32) that shows a vehicle available, then from the drop down list they select their name and then save and close the sheet.
Rather than our volunteer controller going through the sheet for the current month (ref worksheet: Sheets JAN to DEC) I would like them to use the first sheet in the workbook (ref worksheet: DC Info Page) to get an instant view of which volunteer is currently on shift.
My current problem
I don’t know how to make the excel file do the following
Search sheets JAN to DEC (ref cells: C4:I58 on each sheet) inclusive for the cell that contains today's (current actual) dateCopy the 8 (eight) cells below the cell that contains today's datePaste the copied cells in to the relative cells (ref: C8 to C15) in sheet one (ref worksheet: DC Info page)
I would also like this to be done automatically so the controller does not have to click on anything after they open the file. But if it needs a button to process the request, one could be added to the worksheet (ref: DC Info Page)
I was using SUMIFS on a large amount of data, but wasn't getting back the exact sum that I needed.
It turns out that I had cells with values similar to the following
Code:
000123
0123
Basically, text fields with the same numerical values, except for the number of leading zeros. Due to the nature of the table, the number of leading zeros is important. When I did SUMIFS, it counted the sum of the two values together. For example with the following:
Item
Batch
Qty
ABC
123
1
It appears that even if a numeric value is stored as text, SUMIFS treats it like a number.
i want to set vlookup but have spaces in the start of source and destination data is there any help for trailing this from vlookup. i have upload the sheet. i also tried vlookup("*"&.............) but not working
View 3 Replies View RelatedNormally I would use trim or substitute to get rid of the spaces from the data. However, this time, they all don't work.
some samples below. : some numbers are text version, some are numerical numbers.
So, are there any other ways to get rid of the leading space as well?

In my spreadsheet, column A, I have a list is part #'s. I have found at the end of my part #'s there are several spaces in each cell. I need to remove these from the cells so that my formulas will be easier to use. Is there a way to do this? The part #'s very in length and format. They would look like this "100020x0 ".
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have some data that is seperated by spaces. I need to split the data so each is in a seperate cell and then remove the spaces. I can do this if there is only one space inbetween the data, but that is not always the case. I attach a workbook with examples.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to use the Validation function under the Data menu to check a cell for a number range, a blank cell, or for one or more spaces. I have a formula to do the first two but not to check for one or more spaces. I'm running Excel for Mac 2011.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a credit card number problem where I am trying to trim the data so that I get rid of the spaces between the numbers (number sequence look like this: 5999 9999 9999 9999. This is currently formatted as text, and I would like to maintain this as text and not convert it to a number. The trim function can't seem to get rid of the spaces.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've inherited this monster of a spreadsheet that is consistently being added to and updated. Everyweek a new column is added and data entered. When one row is done, it gets cut and pasted to the Inactive sheet; however, the problem I am encountering if that the rows all have different amounts of columns, depending on when they were added and how long the items were on the sheet.
For example:
A
B
C
D
E
F
G
H
I
[code]....
So when I go to move row 1, when it becomes inactive, to the Inactive sheet, I have 8 columns of data that I need to cut and paste to make it line up with that sheet, which goes monthly. Is there any way to automatically cut out the empty columns of data for each row so that it can be condensed, rather then going through each one?
Suppose I have a list (mine is several thousand lines) with city names. In this list some has manually input some names with double spaces between multiple word names -- Example (using dashes to represent spaces in this case):
Maple-Grove
Maple--Grove
I know about the function TRIM, but that only works at the start or end, I need something simple to trim the extra space between two words.
My V-lookups are not working. I have data with extra spaces before or after the word. The table I am looking up does not have extra spaces. I'm trying to to a TRIM(data with spaces) and then copy and paste the values so that the spaces go away and the TRIM is not taking my spaces out.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to take data from a cell that has a space "cherry banana", and make it into two cells "cherry" and "banana". I want to duplicate my line on which the data resides, if possible.
What I have is a sheet like this:
I have a column of data. I would like to space this out so that each value is separated by two spaces.
E.g.
1
2
3
-->
1
2
3
I can do this manually (by inserting two cells), but I wondered if there is a way to do this automatically?
(I have a column organised with the spaces immediately to the left of the column I want to change.)
I have a macro which opens one excel file, then copies the data into another, dead easy. However the first file is 'downloaded' from a bespoke package, where (for whatever reason) the package appends a number of spaces (" ") after data in one of the columns,
So sometimes the data will contain one, ten or more extra spaces (no telling how many) ie, it could look like "AB ", "AB ", or "AB " etc
Ideally What i need is a small bit of code that once the data has been imported to my sheet it can run and 'strip' extra spaces from the column, lets say column f, to leave all the data in this column to look like:
"AB"
"AF"
"CD1"
"VFE"
I am drawing a blank, any simple lines of code?
cell A1 has " HH001 " (without "", there is space infront and behind the data),
cell B1 has "motor gear case",
what formula to put in cell C1 to get like this "HH001" (removed spaces in A1)
and D1 to get like this, "[HH001] motor gear case"
I have two columns D and E that contain dates and values. Column D has the dates and Column E contains the corresponding values.
I need a macro to take all of the dates in column D (it is pulled from a different macro so the length of the two columns varies every time but starts at D2) and paste the first value in W1, the second value in AE1 , and so on (every eight cells).
I need to do the exact same thing with Column E except start at Y1, then AG1, etc (still every eight cells).
I will try to post an example later.
I have a list in Column A" Job List" (the amount of entries will change based on job openings). There are some cells that are blank; randomly throughout. I need to create a new Column B "Current Jobs List" with no spaces. I have to do this weekly and each time I update my "Current Jobs List" from the new data in the "Job List" without any spaces.(I do not want to just do a filter) .

Any way to actually execute a macro stored as a text file?
Without being long winded - I want to create different macro and physically save them as text files. Once saved - I could call them from a list.
I'm trying to open multiple files, pass them into an array and then work on them but the code below doesn't work (receive a Run-time error '9' message)
Public aFile As Variant
Sub MultipleFiles ()
MsgBox ("Please select multiple book files (holding CTRL as you click on flies) before you click open")
aFile = Application.GetOpenFilename(FileFilter:="Excel (*.xl*), *.xl*", _
Title:="Select required book level files", MultiSelect:=True)
Dim i As Integer
For i = LBound(aFile) to UBound(aFile)
Workbooks(aFile(i)).Activate
'Do something, then repeat with next file in array
Next i
End Sub
I am opening a workbook using a macro. I need to run a macro in the workbook I am opening when it opens. I have created a variable containing the workbook name but don't know how to use it to run the macro.
Dim WBName
WBName = ActiveWorkbook.Name
Application.Run _
"'DIST_91094_EDTABS_DIABETES CARE_07072006.xls'!aStartProcess"
'DIST_91094_EDTABS_DIABETES CARE_07072006.xls'! needs to be replaced by the name stored in WBName
aStartProcess is the name of the macro in that workbook I want to run.
