Jul 12, 2012I have a formula that I can't get to paste successfully in the forum - it keeps getting cut off?!? ... but I think I can probably simplify my explanation to get the answer I want anyway.
I need to only show the value from AUS!$H$2:$H$17 if the C2 & D2 combination are the same as the AUS!$B$2:AUS!$B$17 & $AUS!$C$2:AUS!$C$17 combination.
Finding Optimal Combination In A Matrix
Nov 13, 2009I've been assigned a task of finding a combination of three or four machines. For example AD,AJ,AQ, and AB would equal 7 therefore it would be the best combination of workstations for that cell. However, I'm having an issue that if AD, AJ, AQ, and AB are being selected more than once.
My question is, how can I analyze all the data and determine the best combination given the relationships for each row given the column.
3 = Absolutely Necessary
2 = Extremely Necessary
1 = Necessary
0 = Do not associate
Finding Best Combination Of Multiple Fields?
Dec 14, 2012The goal of this is to find the best combination of a captain (out of 5 possible choices), 5 crewmates (out of 25, no repeats), deck items (2 items, can be repeated, 20 total options), ram (1, out of 13), hull (1, 13 choices), and rudder (1, 7 choices)
Each choice in every category has 4 attributes - fighting, morale, seafaring, and speed. The ship parts also have a true/false field called "unlocked" - the false fields obviously can't be chosen.
A mission gives numbers saying what total attributes are needed for a 100% chance of success. If the mission has 2 attributes that are required (say seafaring and fighting, for instance) then it takes whichever chance of success is lowest and counts that as the mission success chance.
Example: A mission requires 2000 fighting and 2000 seafaring - I can reach 2000 fighting but 1500 seafaring, chance of success is 75%. It would be better for me to get a combination that gave me an 87% success rate in both fields.
How do I have excel go through every combination (and is that even plausable? I would imagine that being in the billions of combination choices) and highlight (turn a cell green or something) the combination that has the highest minimum chance of success in all fields?
Dificulty Finding The Right Combination For A Complex Lookup.
May 19, 2009I am having a difficult time with a look up. It would be very hard to explain so I'll attach a copy of the section of the worksheet that the problem lies on with comments so you can see whats going on. The problem there is a numbered list with a reference number i can't seem to figure out a lookup that will look in the chart above and find the row associated to the reference number and according to how many before it have that reference number find a secondary reference number listed in the column above. The attachment should clear it up.

Jan 30, 2013I am using a pivot table to explore the relationship between the two variables in a survey. Question 1 is a "choose all that apply" question, while Question 2 is more "if you said yes to any in question 1, choose all that apply".
So, I have about 10 filters for question 1, where each combination will give me a different number for the responses for question 2. My question is this: How do I get excel to automatically find the # of individuals with the particular combination of filters in question 1?
Ie. if said yes to 3/10 options in question 1, how do I get excel to find out how many actually said yes to the 3/10 questions.
The purpose of this data is for reference to question #2, so that i can utilize some percentages.
SUMIF - Trim And Concatenate 2 Sets Of 2 Columns Giving Answer In Another Column
Jun 22, 2008I have two sets of two columns which contain numbers as text with trailing spaces and I want to concatenate column A and B and concatenate column F and G, and then compare them, and sumif value in column I if they are the same - giving the answer in the same row as the matching data in column A and B.. but in column J.
I’ve seen sum product and haven’t been able to get it to work at all. I have been adding the trim() function in around the column references to see if that would work but am failing…
A = 2000 text
B = 1234 text
F = 2000 trailing spaces, text
G = 1234 trailing spaces, text
I = 10,000
Answer in column J
I want 20001234 = 20001234 = 10,000 for the whole column.
I don't want to change the original data as its externally sourced and used for other links etc.. This would save a few hours a week if i ( more correctly, you ) could get this to work.

IF Formula - Column To Show Text Value Dependent On Combination Of Three Columns
May 12, 2014I have three columns that each have a drop down of text options; column A has three options, column B has three options and column C has two options. I want to have a fourth column that will show a text value dependent on the combination of the three columns.
It ends up being 18 variations so my IF formula just won't compute.
This is basically the format I have and works for a few values then just chucks up an error when I extend it to all 18 variations:
IF(AND(A1="text",B1="text2",C1="text3"),"show this text",
IF(AND(B1="other",B1="other2",C1="other3"),"then show this", ) etc etc
Any way I can get this to work for all 18 possible outcomes??

Selection Process Finding X From Within 7 Columns
Sep 10, 2009Hi I have a process in which I have to create a selection without bias. There are 9 categories in this selection process. The 1st and 2nd category already have code and they work differently from the rest. For the 3rd through the 8th categories I have to choose one from the 3rd category, then one from the 4th, etc. After the 8th category I start back at the 3rd and go to the 4th, ect. It ends when cell A1 reaches 30%.
Its a little difficult to explain but the process is simple enough to understand once you see it. I have attached an example of the process. I have also started the code and left explanations within the code.

To be more specific in a workbook in sheet1 I have Client data columns A,B & C in A,B,& C should be match with the companys data in the next sheet.
If this both sheets sheet1 & sheet2 and columns A,B,& C is matched then in column D in both the sheets should be Matched and Column E should be 0 in both the sheets.
And,The problem starts when both the sheets are not matched if the Column A,B,C is not matched in Column D it should show as "NOT Matched " and difference in Column E in both the sheets.It may be positive figure in one sheet and Negative figure in another sheet.
Please advise If any Forumulae which can help me to sort this out or should I need to go for an Macro.

Finding If Two Columns With Text Equal?

I have another column that's the same, but sometimes this column has new codes.
Right now I have to "eye" it side by side to see if there are any new codes, but I'm sure there's a better way to do it. I'm thinking of asking Excel to compare the columns and if they aren't equal, then it would be necessary for me to eye it. If they are equal, then I dont have to bother because there are no new codes.

I need to be able to search/index using 2 criteria to figure out which row to match with the given column. for example: If I want to know the invoice qty. for R&D for Jan-2012, so the returned value would be 13. I have tried several different combinations of match and index to get this to work but have had no success. Ultimately what I want to do is have a drop down for the month and year that our VP can select and it will give him the given values for that month.

Dec 17, 2013I have a file with immunophenotypic markers and their relationship to certain blood cells.
What I need to do is search the list and pull out the groups of defining markers for each blood cell. Some of the cells have many markers, some only have one but I need to find which combinations of markers identify each cell if possible.
