SUMIF - Trim And Concatenate 2 Sets Of 2 Columns Giving Answer In Another Column
Jun 22, 2008
I have two sets of two columns which contain numbers as text with trailing spaces and I want to concatenate column A and B and concatenate column F and G, and then compare them, and sumif value in column I if they are the same - giving the answer in the same row as the matching data in column A and B.. but in column J.
I’ve seen sum product and haven’t been able to get it to work at all. I have been adding the trim() function in around the column references to see if that would work but am failing…
A = 2000 text
B = 1234 text
F = 2000 trailing spaces, text
G = 1234 trailing spaces, text
I = 10,000
Answer in column J
I want 20001234 = 20001234 = 10,000 for the whole column.
I don't want to change the original data as its externally sourced and used for other links etc.. This would save a few hours a week if i ( more correctly, you ) could get this to work.
I have a workbook with calculations for a sale less the assorted fees and at the end giving the final amount from a sale.
I have noticed that some of the rows are not giving the correct amount in them. In other words the addition of some columns in that row are not adding up correctly. It is only off by 1 cent (either over or under), but I can't figure out why.
I have the feeling that I am going to want to kick myself when someone explains this to me (I just know that I know the answer but for the life of me I can't right now).
I have a formula that is correct all the way up to adding the last *K9. here is an
example:
C9 a number 4 then add 1 to it which makes it 2 now * it by D9 which is the number 384 and the answer is 768 now * that by K9 which is 6 and you get 4608 I'm getting 2310 using this formula... =IF( C9=0, 0, C9+1*D9)*K9.
The following formula seems to be incorrect. I typed in the times and dates to get the difference in hours, but my times are in 5 minute blocks, so the answer is given doesnt add up
Start DateFinsh date Hours15/11/2011 13:5017/11/2011 2:2536.58
I have three different sets of numbers on a r12m that I have to add and divide by different numbers and not quite sure I have the formula right as when I do it manually on a calculator it comes out different.
I am trying to created a spreadsheet for work where I have created to validation drop down boxes, one each box has been selected i want it to return back with the correct answer in the 3rd column.
below are the 3 colums. i have created a validation for column 1 and 2 but when selected i want the final box to = column 3 ie. >=9, =2
I'm using the above formula to join text from columns Z through AC, separated by a comma. I now want to remove the comma at the end of the new string. Also, I would prefer it if the four cells were separated by a slash rather than a comma, but when I simply replace the commas in the formula with slashes I get an error.
I'm trying to add the total product sold by a group of sales person for example : Chad + Javier. My actual worksheet includes 600 rows of salespeople and 20 rows of product, i'm using this simple example to get the message across.
I was using =sum(sumif(A1:A9,"Chad',D1:D9),sumif(A1:A9,"Javier",D1:D9)), the formula should have given 91, but instead is calculating 113...
Salers PersonProduct AProduct BProduct C Chad567 Chad567 Chad567 Chad567
Sheet1 contains a large set of data, including a date and a corresponding value.
Sheet2 (Summary) has a column called "Begin Date" and a column called "End Date". How can I use a formula to sum every piece of data that fits within the two dates?
I have a download from an accounting general ledger which has the following:
Column A: Category Description Column B: Country Column C: Department Row 1: Months Note: Each row contains the last 12 months worth of costs
As the categories/criteria can appear multiple times, and there are thousands of lines, I have been using SUMIFS to calculate totals my required combinations (eg. Travel expense, Germany, Sales department)
Every month, the information refreshes to show the most recent 12 months worth of data. And this means I need to manually update my formulas to correct the month column headings, as everything moves by 1 month.
Would something like a SUMIF with a SUMPRODUCT work? Eg. if current month = July, then it would sum everything from the July column automatically?
Im tryng to do a SUMIF formula that has several criteria as answer but using the concatenate formula, but it doesnt seem to come back with the answer - im using AND/OR formula aswell, but have a feeling im doing it wrong.
It does work when i use the single concatenate, but not when i try a do more than one
I have come up with this to Trim all of the data from rows 2:30 removing any trailing spaces after the last word in each cell. The macro takes a couple of minutes to run have I got something wrong that is making it run slowly or does the Trim process just take longer?
Sub TRIM_RANGE() Dim myRange As Range Dim myRow As Range Sheets("CAMPAIGNS_2007").Select Set myRange = Range("2:30") If myRange Is Nothing Then Exit Sub Application. ScreenUpdating = False myRange.Replace What:=Chr(160), Replacement:=Chr(32), _ LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, MatchCase:=False For Each myRow In myRange.Columns If Application. CountA(myRow) > 0 Then myRow.TextToColumns Destination:=myRow(1), _ DataType:=xlFixedWidth, FieldInfo:=Array(0, 1) End If Next myRow Application.ScreenUpdating = True End Sub
I have the attached worksheet with clients' names in four columns (A-D). The first names and last names must remain separate. I need one additional column that shows whether a full name (first and last) in C and D also appears in A and B.
Then one more column that shows how many times the name in C and D shows up, but only if it is also in A and B.
This formula I want to apply it in another workbook. It split in different columns the content of a cell.
The formula is below:
[Code] .....
In cell A2 I have the following data: |516582-001-99|414816-001-99|414816-003-99|516582-001-99|
If I apply the formula above in cells B2 to E2 it returns a blank cells. But if I delete the first "|" sign in the left side manually the formula works perfectly by splitting the cell into columns from B2 to E2. The issue here is that I have more than 300,000 records. Just imagine the amount of time invested in just deleting the first "|" at the left side.
I need a variation of the formula above that in first place delete the first "|" at the left side and after that continue with the proper work of the formula.
I am trying to record a macro, using the macro recorder, that will trim the contents of the cells in one column. The starting cell will always be E12 and the ending cell will vary depending on the number of records that month.
After I select cell E12, I hold down the shift key and hit end and then the down arrow to get my range. After that, I'm trying to use the Insert - Function from the menu to setup the trim but can't get it to work.
I have 2 sets of data/array/range. Each set consists of 2 columns with a large number of rows.
I want to compare my 2nd data to a master data. And list if anything is different in 2nd set of data from master set in column A than highlight the difference or copy the value to another place.
Also want to compare the 2nd column if column A was same and consider both column A and column B for that associated row different if column B is different.
The trouble for me comes in because the list is never alphabetical (sort doesnt work cause of funky naming) and never of the same size.
Attached is a photo of an example for maybe an clearer understanding. Also attached an example excel sheet I tried it within excel but cant seem to figure out how to look also for the 2nd column, so im trying to avoid the within excel route and go using vba ...

I attempted it with a very basic code thats not working =/ just cant seem to figure how to code to get the desired result
VB: Sub matchdiff() Dim cell As Range Dim found As Range
I am a newbie to Excel. I really appreciate if someone could help me here and this is very urgent as I have a project going on.
I have a cell say B3, which is a dropdown list I created using Data Validation. It only lists down Yes or No.
What I need is when you click on Yes in B3, i need columns C to I to unhide. If answer is No, column C to I should be hidden. By default, the columns will be hidden.
Can you please help? I tried many times but not successful. Appreciate if someone will be able to walk me through details. If you want to see the sample spreadsheet, I can sent it to you by email. I tried Data> Outline group but they are not happy with this.

I have a code in software that exports results to excel. But it stores the numbers associated with indices as text. I need to change all of them to numbers. So I have written the following code, that search through the folder, converts text to numbers and colses the file.
Sub ConvertText2NumberFiles() Dim v As Variant Dim rng1 As Range, bk As Workbook Dim i As Long ChDrive "C" ChDir "C: ...analysis"
[Code]....
The problem is it takes time becuase it is going through A LOT OF cells. I only need at most the first 4 columns and the first 2 rows. So I wanted to use the union. I wrote the following:
Set IndexColumns = bk.ActiveSheet.Range(Columns("A") & ":" & Columns("A").SpecialCells(xlLastCell)) Set IndexRows = bk.ActiveSheet.Range(Rows("1") & ":" & Rows("1").SpecialCells(xlLastCell)) Application.Union(Range("IndexColumns"), Range("IndexRows")).Select
Which doesn't work! Morover it is only for one column and one row.
NOTE1 : Like any matrix, the intersection of index columns and index rows is blank! NOTE2 : The lenght of indices is different from one file to another
I'm in need of some VBA code (to be included in a Macro) that will automatically use the TRIM function for all cells in a whole column and that will then replace the values in that column with the resulting TRIM values. I have a LOT of individual files with varying #'s of records in them, so a way that will address all of them (all the cells in the specified column due to varying #'s of records) would be best.
I am trying to create a very large spreadsheet and i have got everything organized, but for easy viewing i want to have a toggle button that hides and un-hides certain sets of the columns (ie. Press down and it hides columns "B-F", "H-J", and "M-O".... then on depress it shows all the information again)
I have got some of the coding down, but am only able to get it to hide one set at a time, not all the sets. Can anyone help me out and let me know how i tell it to run multiple commands from the one press? here is the code i have already: ...
I had wanted to go through my spreadsheet and concatenate two columns (A & B)into one (A) then delete the duplicate column (B), but have found no way to do that. Now I am trying to search then insert a column prior to the other two, concatenate the data into the new column then delete the columns. I am specifically having a problem with my Range statement and can't figure out how to activate it or discern it after using the Find command.
I have many kitchens using the same recipes. I need to distill information down until I've got a summary of how much is being made. Uploaded is a condensed version of the point in the process I'm having difficulty with. This workbook will pull information from 8 other workbooks and give me excatly what everyone made on any weekday.
And from there, with the kind help of this forum, I figured out how to do a SUMIF based on the recipe number. And it summed up all instances of 'Recipe X' being used. However, it continues to SUMIF itself all the way down the page... which is good, because of how recipes are chosen for each kitchen. However, I only need to report one instance of each recipe.
In the uploaded example (and I apologize for the colorful sheet, but it helped me double check what I was working on.) ... I only need to report the PURPLE results elsewhere... the first instance of each SUMIF.
I'm using a sumproduct forumla to count rows based on specific data in multiple columns. So if column A equals 1 and column G does not equal 6 and column M equals 4 then count that row. I know how to do this. The problem I'm having is that I want to count column A if equals 1 or 2. I tried adding an OR comand in with my sumproduct but it doesn't seem to work that way.
Below is a series of sets. Column A is the set number. I need a macro that will insert a row between sets and then put a border around each set. In my spreadsheet the sets are from A1:C500. Sometimes the sets are only 1 row, sometimes multiple rows. It looks like I will be doing one of these sheets every week. So far I have been doing it manually, but a macro sure would save some time.
In my attachment I am trying to identify rows within Table 2 that do not fit in with Table 1. For example in Table 2, Row 16 has a Start Date of 17.11.2010 and an End Date of 13.11.2011 for ID number 151. This record has to be shown as "OK" because it fits into the date range of Row 103 of Table 1 i.e. Table 1 Row 103 has a Start Date of 01.01.2010 and an End Date of 28.02.2013 for ID 15. In other words the Start Date of Table 2 Row 16 is GE the Start date of Table 1 Row 103, and the End Date of Table 2 Row 16 is LE the End Date of the same Row 103 of Table 1, therefore this reocrd is OK.
Row 14 of Table 2 needs to be shown as "NOT OK" because it has a Start Date of 12.01.2013 and an End Date of 31.03.2013 for ID 15 and this doesn't fit any date range of any Row in Table 1 for ID 15.
As we know, a simple concatenate will work. But my columns are not limited and not easily countable. In my real scenario for some of the rows, data exist from column "A" till column "IB". So, I need to first identify the column data exist in each row and then to implement the concatenate function.
