View 1 RepliesI am trying to calculate volume in inches then in feet using 2 methods to check my work.
Method ....
I am new to Excel but not programming and I am looking for a recommendation for the following. I have a spreadsheet that simply takes the length and width of an area and computes the square feet and yardage and other sundry items. I am entering the feet/inches as follows:
Example: 11.3 (equals 11/ft 3/inches)
The correct decimal conversion should be 11.25 but, obviously, it does not know that the number to the right of the decimal point is an indicator of inches. (ex.: .5=.42, .7=.58, .9=.75, .11=.92)
I have approached this from the stand point of an IF condition, finding the position of the "." and grabbing everything to the right (+1) but I understand that the limitation is 7 nested IFs.
Can someone get me kick-started on what the best approach would be to get my entry to convert to the true decimal equivalent? Currently, I am simply doing the conversion from memory but I would rather automate this sometimes errant approach.
This is a continuance of the Q and A below. Except the answer below converted a decimal like 1.44 to and answer like 1' 5.28".
except the final format I am after requires the 5.28" to be fractional such as:
1' - 5 1/4"
Is there a formula for this format?
How, using PageSetup and xlPaperSize properties, to setup a custom paper size of 4 inches by 6 inches???
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am making an excel spreadsheet that auto fills in a lot of items for a construction company. One of the most important ones is the Roof Pitch.
1/12 pitch is 1 inch rise every 12 inches.
2/12 pitch is 2 inch rise every 12 inches.
I would like it to auto calculate this and add it to the over all height of the building.
Example:
A house is 20 feet wide with a 2/12 pitch.
Since the Ridge is in the center we divide the Width in half.
So a 2/12 pitch over a span of 10 feet is 20 inches
I need a formula to automatically convert inches to square feet. I have =IF(G5>12,G5/144). and G5 is the cell used to enter your inch value. The formula wrks great, but only if you enter over 12 inches. I'm pretty sure Im on the right track, just need to know how to add in the part about if its less than 12 inches it should be multiplied by 12.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to import data from a rather antiquated software package of race results and present it in a line chart showing each competitor's race result against the date it happened.
The problem is the two ways the data can be exported (shown as option A & B below) is very cumbersome and I can't work out how to create a simple line chart (like the second image) from that raw data. [URL]
What I want to do is turn this data into something like this [URL]
The only way I can think of is to convert/transpose the data into something like below. The problem is I don't know where to begin in trying to do that automatically.

I attach the workbook shown in the screenshots which contains sample data for 5 people over 3 races.
Example Workbook: SampleData.xlsx
I have to make a excel document in which I have length and width in feet and inch format.
E.g. 10.01 in which 10 is feet and .01 is inch
I have all the length and width values in the above format. And what I want to do is convert the inch value (10.01) to feet value (.01=.08 feet) .
Just like the calculator here does.. [URL] ........
Like
10.01=10.08
10.02=10.16
10..03=10.25
...and so on...
Here is table of conversions from inches to decimal feet. But I don't know how to get a formula for this in excel...????
Inch Decimal of a Foot
1 inch 0.0833
2 inches 0.167
3 inches 0.250
4 inches 0.333
5 inches 0.417
6 inches 0.500
7 inches 0.583
8 inches 0.667
9 inches 0.750
10 inches 0.833
11 inches 0.917
12 inches 1.000
So I have an Excel Table that consists of data from a Ping utility (we're having a lot of connection issues on our DSL line), every 5-10 seconds the program pings various websites like google, yahoo, etc. and logs the ping time.
I'd like to make a chart or graph that shows the average ping per Hour (or 30 minutes, or whatever) for all these sites combined, basically take an hour of pings, find the average of all or just the pings from one IP, plot.
Table is
ColA = Date Time (8/20/2013 15:57)
ColB = IP Address (173.252.110.27)
ColC = Ping (123)
ColD = Result (Succeeded/Failed)
ColD = DNS (facebook.com, it's a vlookup from a table of IPs and their DNS address)
I need a formula that converts time in the format of hh:mm to 00:mm. I only want the minutes.
View 4 Replies View Relatedcreating a formula that would convert a string like 63008 (Mdyy format) to a format that Excel can read as a date
=IF(LEN(I2)=5,DATE(20&RIGHT(I2,2),LEFT(I2,1),MID(I2,2,2)),DATE(20&RIGHT(I2,2),LEFT(I2,2),MID(I2,2,2)))
In other words IF(the length of the cell value is 5, parse the date this way, otherwise parse it another way)
If I2=63008, this would output 6/30/2008
I want to convert this to a function since that formula is rather tedious to type out, but I am new to Excel programming
I need to convert inches to feet and inches in this format:
88 1/2 = 7' 4-1/2"
...so that if 88 1/2 is in cell A1, cell B1 will show 7' 4-1/2".
The exact syntax of B1 must be as shown.
I have a working formula that I want to convert to vba code... I only want to store the formula result in each cell in my range, not the formula itself. It is an ARRAY formula (entered with CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER) and it would be ideal if it could follow R1C1 format to keep it relative for each cell.
Here is the formula as it's entered in my spreadsheet:
=INDEX(PerfMetricTbl!$U$2:$U$250000, MATCH(1, (PerfMetricTbl!$A$2:$A$250000=$A2)*(PerfMetricTbl!$D$2:$D$250000=$D2)*(PerfMetricTbl!$Q$2:$Q$250000=$Q2)*(PerfMetricTbl! $R$2:$R$250000=Z$1), 0)))
I am not super familiar with using INDEX/Match combos which is why I am struggling with this one...
The end result should be:
For each cell in myRange
cell.value = 'Formula result here
Next cell
-OR-
If possible to fill the range in one step:
myRange.value = 'Formula Result Here, utilizing R1C1 relative reference... (this may be a stretch given the range is 55krows x 18 columns)
The problem at hand is I need to fill a range of approx. 999,000 cells with values and the values are a VLOOKUP with 4 matching criteria. So returning the value from Col U on my LookupTbl when the criteria in Col's A, D, Q, and R are an exact match to my values in A, D, Q, and Z:AQRow1.
I have an excel work book where in one page (sheet1) contains formula types to be used based on a code. and in the other page (Sheet 2) when I enter the code I need it to get the formula from 1st page and then do the calculation in the second based on the code. Ex : Sheet 1
Code Formula
0 Cell A * CellB
1 Cell B - Cell A*5%
2 (Cell A + Cell B)*10%
In Sheet 2
Cell A B C D ..........
Price(A) Units(B) Code Amount
100 5 0 500 (100*5)
100 5 1 answer (5 - (100*5%)
100 5 2 answer (100+5)*10%
I hope you got the picture. The problem is I'm not sure how to take only the formula from 1st sheet and then use it in the 2nd sheet to do the calculation.
I wont mind using a form for this even.
Could someone please tell me what is wrong with this formula. I have been looking at it for so long, I can't even concentrate .....

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two sheets, the first called 'AF' and the other called 'POR'. For one of the columns in the 'AF' sheet I used the following formula - VLOOKUP(B2,POR!$A$2:$A$111254,1,FALSE) to retrieve a string consisting of 7 numerical digits (Ex. 4678451). Now if I want this result of 7 digits in the same 'AF' sheet to be converted to the word "YES" - how do I achieve this? (All the 7 digits numbers are different or unique). Is there some sort of REPLACE command I use here or some other means?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have whole bunch of formula's added to cells by code. So far so good. How could I then set in macro code that the result is stored in cell as value rather than formula? Now when I go to cell you can see =PIBVSearch(.... yadda yadda yadda in the field above.
I would prefer to change it so that content of cell changes to it's value so there's no formula visible(and above all not stored to harddisk(LOTS of disk space lost. Whole project started to trim down 269Mb excel file into smaller piece! I don't want it to go back there too easily...) or in danger of getting updated which might take a very long time easily).
Code works so that as long as there's rows which haven't got update yet but do have product run code(or something like that. Not quite sure what that number is but I figure it's product run) after code reached that far(which it copied from another file). Then for each row it calls functions for each cell which are responsible for filling invidual cells.
So either way to replace content of whole row with values or invidual cells, I can insert both into loop easily though whole row after cells are calculated would be a) faster to add(just one place to add, not 30...) and likely faster to run(project is about getting the file to run faster afterall...).
Converting formula to static code. I am currently using the following code on a spreadsheet:

Basically, I want to count the frequency of "N" in 'Data_Q2 2008'!$S$2:$S$9806, where 'Data_Q2 2008'!$B$2:$B$9806 = 'Metric Upload'!C2.

I want a formula for converting a number to text
For example: 2550 ( two thousand five hundred fifty). I found one formula (BAHTTEXT) but it convert into Thai Language.
I'm having a slight problem as I cannot find a way to translate the following code from my worksheet formula to VBA: =IF(LEN(A1)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A1,"-",""))=1,A1,MID(A1,1,FIND("-",A1,FIND("-",A1)+1)-1)). The code takes a value from one cell and takes the part that I need. There are two main types of inputs, they are in the form:
aaa-aaaaaaa-aaaaaa
aaaa-aaaaaa
The lengths are variable, but for the sake of showing you an example I have simplified it to the previous. The formula takes the part of the string that is before and after the first hyphen and puts it in the cell next to it.
I am creating a spreadsheet for some deliveries. The pieces I have are all in feet and inches and multiplied by a certain quantity. I need a formula to run this and give me feet as an answer.
I have 4 cells, in A1 I have feet without the foot mark (20) and in cell B1 I have inches without the " (5). In cell C1 I have 20. How do I write a formula to do the following:
20'-5" multiplied by 20 = Answer in D1 408'
Is there a way to convert a value in a cell that is 2'-3 1/2" to adecimal such as 27.5"?

Is there a way to store a text style that will allow me to convert decimal numbers into feet and inches in the same cell?
I want to be able to type in a number like 3.5 and have it read 3'-6".
I need help shrinking down my formula to make it fit in one cell.
Right now, the way i have it, it spans across (7) different cells to get the results i desire. Is there a way i can make this shorter?
