Formula To Calculate Result Whilst Avoiding Errors Is Too Long!

Jan 22, 2010

I have a formula I've been using for a long time which uses VLOOKUP to find results based on various reference cells, and then adds them up. To avoid errors caused by VLOOKUP not finding anything for one of the references I have also used ISERROR. The formula returns a blank if the calculation returns a zero.

I now need to bring further references in to the calculation but, using the format I have been, the formula is now too long. Here is my extensive formula:

Avoiding #value! Errors In My Formula

Avoiding #VALUE Errors On Blank Cells

Jun 23, 2008

Is it possible to inset a bank into a cell, and use that cell in a subsequent addition formula?

For example;

A1 contains 1
B1 contains 2
C1 contains =IF(A1=1,"",3)
D1 contains =A1+B1+C1

In the above case the cell D1 contains #VALUE and not 3, whereas if C1 were actually blank D1 would contain 3.

The reason I ask is that a blank is not the same value mathematically as 0. The latter is the number zero, whereas the former is the lack of any number.

Frequency Formula Takes Long Time To Calculate

Feb 12, 2010

I am using the below formula to distinctly count the number of customers that match the criteria that I have in Cells C7 and B10. The data is in a separate worksheet, that I am showing Named Detail of which will be changing on a monthly basis, so a pivot table does not want to be used. The detail data ranges from row 7-40,000, and the file is currently 8610KB's, and can potentially grow.

=SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(IF(Detail!$A$7:$A$40000=C$7,IF(Detail!$B$7:$B$40000=$B10,IF(Detail!$D$7:$D$40000<> "",MATCH(Detail!$D$7:$D$40000,Detail!$D$7:$D$40000,0)))),ROW(Cust)-MIN(ROW(Detail!$D$7:$D$40000))+1),1))

This formula works but takes an excessive amount of time for one caluclation, and I need this for multiple column and row critera. So, can this calculation be changed in order to get the same result with faster calculation time? I am using Excel 2003.

Excel VBA Errors For Long Macro Processing?

Dec 30, 2013

I have a very long (> 2 hr) macro that sifts through thousands of files and creates a table of contents (more or less). Anyway, the macro will operate just fine when I am also working at the same PC but if I walk away for an hour, Excel will sometimes generate an error (application defined or object defined error). I believe that it has something to do with the PC going idle although it really isn't going idle because I turn off sleep and hibernate while running the macro. Also, there are only two locations where the error seems to occur. See below:

Code:
Dim oApp As ObjectSet oApp = CreateObject("Shell.Application")
Dim files As New Collection
Dim fZip As Variant
For Each fZip In oApp.Namespace(zipFile).items

Creating A Formula To Calculate A Result That Depends On 3/4 Criterias Been Met

Apr 28, 2008

Firstly its probably best you download the file from below and open it up.

http://www.mediafire.com/?un3smhmdyzt

I need a formula to put in cells in column S on sheet March.

It needs to match up the correct price from sheet 'Container Price List'.

The price that should be displayed depends firstly on the account number, container and waste stream all matching to decipher which line the price is on. Then the price displayed should be the price in the column called 'exchange charge' however if this is 0 it should be the price in the column called 'rental charge'.

So for example, if you look at row 27 in sheet 'March' the price displayed would be £80.39. The formula will look at the account number 'c028' on sheet 'March' and match it to the any of 'c028' on sheet 'Container Price List'. It will then look at the container in sheet 'March' which is RL14 and match it with the ones that are RL14 in sheet 'Container Price List'. Then it will look at the Waste Stream in sheet 'March' which is GEN.C and match it with the GEN.C in sheet 'Container Price List'. The result given should be the exchange charge in sheet 'Container Price List' which in this case is £80.39.

If for example the exchange charge displayed £0.00 then the result given should be the rental charge in sheet 'Container Price List' instead.

Fill In The 3 Criteria Fields, Calculate The Result, Copy The Result, And Place It Into The Correct Place On The Table

Oct 19, 2006

I have a macro that imputs data from an external database and puts it into a temporary worksheet. This data has 3 columns (ID, Date, Amount). I am then making another sheet which has X number of tables (one for each ID), with the years being the column headings, and months being the row headings. ie.

| ID X
| +------+------+------+--->
| | 1999 | 2000 | 2001 |
+------+------+------+------+--->
| Jan | $100 | $250 | $300 |
+------+------+------+------+--->
| Feb | $200 | $300 | $200 |
+------+------+------+------+--->
| Mar | $300 | $250 | $100 |
+------+------+------+------+--->
| Sum | $600 | $800 | $600 |
| +------+------+------+--->

| ID Y
| +------+------+------+--->
| | 1999 | 2000 | 2001 |
+------+------+------+------+--->
| Jan | $100 | $250 | $300 |
+------+------+------+------+--->
| Feb | $200 | $300 | $200 |
+------+------+------+------+--->
| Mar | $300 | $250 | $100 |
+------+------+------+------+--->
| Sum | $600 | $800 | $600 |
| +------+------+------+--->

Currently I have a few hidden fields for the DSUM Criteria. I start making the tables. And then filling in table based off of the month and year. Doing so I need 3 criteria:
>= First Day of the Month
<= Last Day of the Month
= ID #

The problem is it takes Excel too long to fill in the 3 criteria fields, calculate the result, copy the result, and place it into the correct place on the table. Is there another way to get this data into the correct tables faster? Instead of using DSUM?

VLOOKUP Formula Dragdown Copies Previous Cell Result Instead Of Unique Result

Jun 10, 2014

When I drag my VLOOKUP formula down a column in Excel 2010, the return value copies the formula result from the original VLOOKUP formula result. For example, if the first VLOOKUP returns a value of 0.5, I expect to see 0.5 or 1 in the cell below that one. However, I get 0.5 which is not the expected result for the cell below.

When, I click the fx on the cells below, the expected return values appear in the formula result. After I click OK, the expected formula results updates and now appears in the cell.

I'm not sure what is causing this issue. My computer was updated recently from an old machine to a new one. I have never experienced this issue before.

However when i copy and paste i'm also copying the initial underlying formula ie: =( A?+1), Is there a way to copy the results, not the formula?

Catch/Trap Formula Errors

Sep 15, 2006

I am trying to find some solution on frequent errors , that come up when one copy, or drag formulae.
Sometime the error doesn’t appear on surface, but after digging you realize that some formula is not pointing to correct
cells.

I want to create a macro which will do following things :

1. It will go to each cell in the selected range, and compare the cell’s formula with that of the cell on its right and left.
2. If the formulae are not similar it should change the color of that cell.

Basically, I am trying to catch logical errors. However I don’t know how to approach this problem? Is there any in-built functionality in Excel that can do this task ?

If Cell Not Blank, Calculate & Round Off Result

Aug 19, 2008

I would like to be able to round off the decimals resulted in the POV field on my worksheet and have a running total of the entries listed below. This occurs sometimes when the mileage units have decimals. In this example, the POV values display $1.00, 99 cents, and 93 cents. Their resulting total should be 2.92, but Excel calculates them as $2.93 due to the additional decimals.

The problem is that if I apply an =ROUND function to the formula in the POV field, while it will display a correct answer if all the date and mileage fields are filled in for which the formula has been applied, it will not give a running total in instances where there are empty date/mileage fields, reporting "VALUE!". Is there a way to force Excel to display the running total?

I have attached the worksheet, with the example above entered in. I have included the formula I've been trying to fix on my worksheet on the bottom as well.

Comparison Formula - Including Inherent Errors

Oct 5, 2009

I have two columns that I want to compare - but one of them is the result of a VLOOKUP - so it may actually contain the #N/A error - how can I compare them so that:

if col 1 agrees with col 2, then "yes" is returned
if col 1 does not agree with col 2 but the VLOOKUP in col 2 has NOT returned an error (so it's still a valid comparison) then "NO" is returned
if col 2 shows a VLOOKUP #N/A error then "NO" is returned

or, perhaps more straightforwardly:

Col 1 = ABC, col 2 = ABC then return "YES"
Col 1 = ABC, col 2 = DEF then return "NO"
Col 1 = ABC, col 2 = #N/A then return "NO"

Excel 2002 :: Formula To Display All Errors?

May 27, 2012

In a worksheet the data (text or numerical) from five columns are compared using the following formula.

=IF($A10$G10,"1ERROR",IF($B10$H10,"2ERROR",IF($C10$I10,"3ERROR",IF($D10$J10,"4ERROR",IF($E10$K10,"5ERROR","-")))))

The formula is working well. The problem is I get the result for the first column of error even if the error is in more than one column. I want the result should display all the errors with the column number 1, 2, 3 (or with column name A, B, C etc). The total number of error is not required. The exact columns which have the error should be displayed. For example if the error exists in 3, 4 and 5 columns, I should get the result as "345Error" or "CDEError".I use excel 2002.

Calculate End Result Based On Cell Contents Of 3 Columns

Jan 13, 2014

I am trying to create a formula that is able to calculate an end result based on the cell contents of 3 columns, the results are predefined in 3 other columns, here D, E & F

For example:

Column A Column B Column C Column D Column E Column F Column G (Results)
Royal Mail 1 100 2.8 2.3 1.2
Royal Mail 2 100 2.9 2.4 1.3
Royal Mail 3 100 3.0 2.5 1.4
DPD 5 200 4.5 2.8 1.5
DPOST 1 100 1.2 3.2 1.7

I am trying to create a calculation that in Column G will work out, IF Column A=Royal Mail AND Column B=1 AND Column C<=100 THEN Answer is [@[Column F]], IF Column A=Royal Mail AND Column B=2 AND Column C<=100 THEN Answer is [@[Column F]], IF Column A=Royal Mail AND Column B=3 AND Column C<=100 THEN [@[Column F]], IF Column A=DPD AND Column B=5 AND Column C<=200 THEN [@[Column E]], IF Column A=DPOST AND Column B=1 AND Column C<=100 THEN [@[Column D]]

Here are an example of what I have tried, amongst many...

=IF(AND(AND([@[Default Post Postal Service]]="Royal Mail"),AND([@[Default Postal Format]]=1),AND([@Weight]<=100)),1,0) Everything is zero.
