Formula To Extract Value Based On Text Selected From Dropdown Menu?
Mar 18, 2014
I am creating a excel calculator to quick and easy calculate CBM (cubic metres) for a total number of cartons and pallets loaded into a container. The value of 1 carton or 1 pallet will be different depending on which type of packaging/pallet it is.
I have created drop down menues in order to choose the correct packaging / pallet. But I am stuck on on to create the formula.
If I for example choose "LANDFROZEN 7KG CARTONS" from the drop down menu, I need the formula to collect the value in cell E18
If I for exampel choose "LANDFROZEN 10 KG CARTONS" from the drop dwon menu, I need the formula to collect the value in cell E25 .... and so on.
I have tried to use several functions, but none is working the way I want them to :-)
I have a large workbook, with multiple sheets. I would like to be able to select a name from a drop down menu, and have the cell color change for all entries of that name in my other sheets. I can do it manually, but it would be much cleaner and easier to have Excel do it for me. I have looked at other answers here on this forum and know that if it can be done,
I have 2 worksheet in excel, first worksheet called "inventory", and second worksheet called "consumption".
The inventory worksheet is the big list of items that we have in store(ex: apple, mango, grape, orange, carrot, banana etc up to 200 items).
In this worksheet, coloumn A is the item name, and coloumn B is the quantity. in some cases, we dont have all the item in the inventory, for example only 50 items that having the quantity (other items is 0) In the worksheet "consumption", it also have coloumn A with item's name and coloumn B with quantity. In Consumption worksheet, i want to create a dropdown list in coloumn A, that automatically only populate the items that we have in the inventory worksheet (50 items) (not showing all items (200 ea) in dropdown list).
I am building a sheet that facilitates managers at our company decipher information that is given to them on a daily workbook I created.
I want to have a drop down menu in Col J, that refers to the major questions they will ask.
Time started (Before) Time Finished (After) Number of Cards (More than) Stops Per hour (more than) Amount of Time Taken (More Than)
I have set up in Col (K) a secondary drop-down list which based on the question selected in (J) will offer options for the answer E.G Time questions will make (K) refer to options based on time and selections based on amounts will offer numbers as an answer.
The elements in brackets are the parts of the formula that create the search option. E.G If select 'Time Started' it will search for all records that started before the time selected in the next col (K)
Right if that makes sense.. I have completed this. so I have the following: A question drop down list in (J), and an answer drop down in (K) which is dependant on the type of question asked. (I have attached an example)
I want to now have a totals box after the question where it displays a total amount of cols that are true to the details in the question.
After that (if possible) I will want to use conditional formatting to highlight the ones that reflect to the question.
Realistically if possible i wouldnt mind creating a question box, a box that allows them to select 'more than', 'exact' or 'less than' and then the specific value. Basically a conditional formatting box for dummies within the worksheet. Attached is a demonstration.
Ok, so I have a sheet with a working drop down list with dates, and depending on the date you choose, certain columns getting hidden and some un hidden. The layout is the same form is repeated 7 times, and which ever date you pick, the corresponding form gets un hidden. My question is, I have a button that will export it to a new sheet with just the values, to be sent to the office. I don't need to send the entire work book and confuse people.
I know how to export, just not using an if then to choose which columns to export.
At the moment if a pupil has done foundation listening then I write their numerical result in, for example C3 or if they have done higher listening I write it in F3 (and it works out the UMS and then the grade), but I wondered if there would be any way to just put a dropdown menu in a column for each name, or change it so that I can type in H or F that will change which data is used? Because the UMS and grades are different depending on whether the pupil has done higher or foundation I am unsure how to format it
I've got a drop-down menu with four options in it that match up with the cells D11:D14, and next to those I've got spots for counting the totals (E11:E14). Next to the drop-down I've got plus and minus buttons, and I need to make it so if I have the top option selected in the dropdown and press plus, it adds +1 to E11. Second option and the same plus button, +1 to E12, and so on.
The purpose is for a call tracker, the employee would select the reason for the call (maybe more added later) and hit the button to add the call to the report.
I've looked so I know you normally ask for what I've got so far, and that's nothing. I've got all the other buttons wired up but I don't even know where to start with this one. I can include a screenshot if necessary.
I have a excel file to keep track of sales pipeline. What I am looking for, is an automated utility or code that will allow excel to automatically move entire rows once a task is completed and can be moved to another sheet. In Prospect sheet I have a column for " sales stage" and here you have to select from a drop down menu, either "Prospect", "semi-qualifed" "Pre-qualified" "verbal" "closed-won" and Lost. What I would like, is that once you have selected one of the sales stage, the entire row or entry, will be automatically moved to a new sheet according to each stage.
I am trying to copy/extract row of data from worksheet(Detail)A:W to worksheet(1st Letter) if X=1st Letter on worksheet(Detail). I have never used VBA and i am not sure if this can be done with a formula.
I am building a spreadsheet with a column having two drop down menus at the top that designate independent, but strict conditions. For simplicity, say I have in cell A1 a drop down menu with choices "alpha, beta, gamma" while A2 has a drop down menu for "1, 2, 3". These six values sit off to the side in cells X1, X2, X3, X4, X5 and X6 respectively.
In cell A3 I woul like to change its color, perhaps to green because it is an acceptable number (say less than or equal to 100) or change to red if unacceptable, value greater than 100.
I can do both of these commands in Excel, no problem. In my situation, I would like to change the value at which cell A3 goes from green to red dependent on the options in A1 & A2. There are 9 such combinations of alpha, beta, gamma, paired with 1,2,3 and I would like the combinations to change the fill color of cell A3 in the following manner:
If A1 = alpha and A2 = 1, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 100 and red for values greater than 100. If A1 = beta and A2 = 1, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 80 and red for values greater than 80. If A1 = gamma and A2 = 1, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 60 and red for values greater than 60. If A1 = alpha and A2 = 2, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 95 and red for values greater than 95. If A1 = beta and A2 = 2, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 75 and red for values greater than 75. If A1 = gamma and A2 = 2, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 55 and red for values greater than 55. If A1 = alpha and A2 = 3, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 92 and red for values greater than 92. If A1 = beta and A2 = 3, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 72 and red for values greater than 72. If A1 = gamma and A2 = 3, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 52 and red for values greater than 52.
How to create a cell that can change its conditional formatting based on the selected values of two drop down menus.
I have a few other conditions I would like to implement, say change the fill color of A3 to green, orange or red dependant on the values in A1 & A2, but I might be able to crack that if I can see how the above scenario is done.
I'm looking for a macro to jump to and select a cell if it matches the text in another cell based on a drop down list. So I have a drop down list in cell c57 and a form control search button right next to it. I want the user to be able to select from the drop down, click search and then jump to the cell that matches what they selected. I would like the macro to search from B:60 - B629.
I'm trying to copy data from one sheet to another sheet automatically based on a number selected in a drop down control.
I have used OFFSET to pull some information successfully from a list. This is easy for me to do with single entries and a list and has worked well. I want to do similar but with a dataset not just single cells.
But, I can't seem to make OFFSET work to show a set of data easily.
Perhaps I will need VB code to do so? Or there is another control I'm not aware of? I've done very little with VB.
I'll attach a sample file to try to show better what I'm trying to do.
I am looking to write a code to lock/unlock cells based on values selected using a drop down list (see attached Excel) For example if Netherlands is chosen as the Country (Column A), then except for the columns Amsterdam (column B) and Eindhoven (column C), all other columns must be locked. Similarly, if India is chosen as the country from the drop down list, then only the columns New Delhi and Mumbai must be editable for the user, the rest of the columns remain locked.
I tried tweaking some of the lock/unlock codes around, but got lost especially with getting to run the macro - still trying to come to terms with running a "Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange" function in the sheet from "Module"!
I've got a workbook with multiple worksheets related to several subsidiary companies for each state & territory, resulting in 450+ worksheets in the workbook. I created a summary sheet with a dropdown menu for each state/territory that pulls in the relevant data using "=indirect". For example, selecting CA from the dropdown menu populates the combined revenue, expenses, etc., for all subsidiaries in CA. However, I've got 50 states plus some territories. I'd like the revenue, expenses, etc. for every dropdown option. Ideally, a separate sheet (or whatever) that lists all 50 states and the revenue, expenses, etc., for each one below (or across).
Is there any way to do this automatically so I don't have to select every single option and copy and paste the numbers into a different worksheet?
I'm looking for a way for excel to output data to a cell dependent on what I choose from a drop down menu.
For example. I have a drop down menu with 3 options. 1,2 and 3. What I want is that if I choose option 2, then in cell A2 (or whatever) would output the value of 2, say "2222". Or if I choose 1, then A2 would output the value of 1, say "12345".
Need to create a drop down menu for a cell that allows selection of 1 of the 5 to 10 alternatives by clicking on an item in the drop down. Have seen this done by attaching a down arrow button to the cell.
What is this feature called, and how do I go about setting this up?
In Column A I have product names. Each product name in column A is followed by several rows of data related to that product directly below it. The number of rows following any given product varies and is also dynamic as rows of data are added to other products above it.
I want a simple downdown menu in A1 that is populated with every product listed in Column A. When a product is selected, that area of the worksheet showing that product is shown.
