Formula To Find Multiple Values And Return Value
Mar 24, 2014
Column A:
pants A green
Pants B red
Jacket C green
Jacket D blue
Polo C white
....
I need a formula to find some value( in our case "colors" = "green, red, blue, white" ... = 20-30 values), and to return in column B, the values, like:
Column A: Column B:
pants A green | green
Pants B red | red
Modern green Jacket | green
blue winter jacket | blue
Polo white D | white
I have different product feeds (csv) and i will like to search for colors in the product names.

I've got a complicated logic formula which looks at multiple values on a large spreadsheet to return a singular figure based on whether all these conditions are met. It works well but I wan't to add an extra stipulation to it. I won't paste the full formula as it probably wont mean much without all the data so heres a mini version with simplifed conditions - but that DOESNT work:
=SUMIF(K10:K13,IF(H10="CAT","CAT",IF(H10="DOG","DOG",IF(H10="ALL",OR("CAT","DOG"),""))),L10:L13)
Its the last bit that I'm having problems with - I want to say if H10 equals "ALL" then in my table of values to add up not just "DOG" values or "CAT" values but "DOG" and "CAT" values

I am looking for a formula that will satisfy the following:
1) find all the values in column "A" that match
2) In column "G", sum up all the values in "F" that go with the matching values in column "A"
3) For example, in rows 14-16, the values in column "A" match. Cell G16 sums up F14:F16

I'm trying to use vlookup to return multiple values for the same unique identifier. I've read a couple of examples within the forums, but I haven't been able to find anything I understand. I have employee ID's and these ID's have specific access associated with their ID's and each access is listed within a different row. Within a new spreadsheet I removed all duplicates of the employee ID so now I no longer have a one to one match between spreadsheets, so I would like to create a vlookup that will list all access associated with each employee ID. I have attached a sample of the data sheet I am working with.

I am trying to find a way to use information in one cell in order to look up corresponding multiple values on another sheet. The problem that I am running into is that VLOOKUP only returns the first value. I need the values to be calculated in different cells going vertically, not all combined in the same cell as was in an earlier post. I am not looking to sum anything so a pivot table also doesnt work.
Sample data:
A / B / C / D
Identifier / Pub ID / Invoice # / Job #
ABCD1234 / ABCD / 1234 / A41254
ABCD1234 / ABCD / 1234 / B41254
ABCD1234 / ABCD / 1234 / C41254
DCBA4321 / DCBA / 4321 / A56789
etc.
I am looking for it to do this:
A / B
Identifier / Job #
ABCD1234 / A41254
/ B41254
ETC.
I want to enter ABCD1234 into another worksheet and have it return all of the job #'s, but I have a lot of these so I don't want to have to look up how many job numbers there are associated with it and have to enter different formulas into multiple cells. Filtering also isn't an option as there are simply too many cells to calculate.

I can manage an array formula that returns a value based on a criteria. Simple. But I want to add in an additional couple of criteria. Now I'm stuck....
My sheet looks at a manually entered postcode, finds out what region this is in, and returns a list of postcode I have defined as being in that region. (So the postcode WF1 3JY would return a region of Yorkshire, and list postcodes of WF, BD, L, etc)
I also have a list of engineers, with a column for their home postcode.I want to be able to list all the engineers from my list whose home postcode matches any of the values on the already created list from the postcode and region entered. So far I have this, which finds me all the engineers for just one postcode area.

I would like to be able to use the Vlookup function to return more then one value as a result of the criteria. I have a cloumn of dates that populates the X axis of a gantt chart with data whilst the Y axis will be populated by a site reference resulting in a program of work, the Y axis data is the result of a vlookup function. My difficulty arises however with multiple sites, for instance where two or three sites will be visited on the same day. The vlookup function will only return the first value it finds in a range to the formulated cell. The result being a missing site(s) from the gantt chart / work program. is it possible to return all values to a cell i.e. site1, site2, site3. using a vlookup or do i need to use another method of doing this?

I have a huge data base (daily temperatures dating back to 1872), but for simplicity I have limited the values to just a month for this question. What I want to do it list the ten warmest temperatures and then return the date in which it occurred. I am using the following LARGE function to get the ten warmest temperatures (Column B - high temperatures).
=LARGE($B$2:$B$31,$D2)
Column B = High Temp in Data Table
Column D = Rank in Results Table
This works great. However when I use the following Index function to get the date in which it occurred (Column A - Date), it keeps returning the first date in which it occurred when there are multiple occurrences of the same temperature.
=INDEX($A$2:$A$31,MATCH(LARGE($B$2:$B$31,$D2),$B$2:$B$31,0))
Column A = Date in Data Table
Column B = High Temp in Data Table
Column D = Rank in Results Table
In some cases, I have more than 2 occurrences of the same temperatures. For example, the high temperature of 23 degrees occurs 3 times during the month (1/4/2013, 1/11/2013, and 1/12/2013), but only the first one 1/4/2013 shows up in my results table. I would like the other dates to show up. These tables are listed below.

Attempting to find identical values in cells B3 & B4 located in another
worksheet titled "Density Chart" and to return the value in cell/column D.
The Density Chart values are located in column A & B and the value I want
returned, depending on the criteria entered would be found on the same row
but in column D.
Example...
Changeable Value in B3 = A123 (can also be completely alpha value and will
be different values each time the formula is used.
Changeable Value in B4 = 2.00 (always numeric value)
Density Chart information
ColumnA ColumnB ColumnC ColumnD
A123 2.00 55.555 65.555
A123 2.40 55.555 75.555
A123 2.70 55.555 70.555
B123 2.00 45.000 85.000
C123
D123
E123
etc
I have tried =if, I have tried =sum product ... at a loss

I have one Column (Col A) which has a list of values. In Col B I would like to filter out the values in Col A based on some criteria. For example, below I would like Col B to show all of the records in Col A where the LEFT six characters = "Active".
Col A:
Inactive_Jim
Active_John
Active_Frank
Inactive_Betty
Inactive_Lucy
Active_Tina
Inactive_Jill
Active_Tom
Col B would result in:
Col B:
Active_John

I'm sure this is elementary, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Working on an export from an e-commerce application that lists the item purchased, unfortunately not by item #, but rather a lengthy description. I'm trying to construct an item number based on that description which contains several constants.
Each item ordered appears in a single row, comprised of ORDERID, QTY, PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
I have several tables to pick out PRODUCT TYPE, COLOR, SIZE, etc. I need a formula to search to see which of the unique values appears in each in the cell and return the shortcut of that value.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION example "Sweater - Blue - Large - Wool"
TYPE TABLE:
Sweater SWTR
T-Shirt TSHT
Jeans JEANS
COLOR TABLE:
Blue BL
Green GN
Purple PL
Black BK
I would have separate tables for each part of the description.
The formula I'm seeking would search the PRODUCT DESCRIPTION cell for the range of values for each 'part'. So it would search to see which of Sweater, T-Shirt, or Jeans was in the cell and then return the one that was - SWTR in this example. I would modify this formula for each 'part', in its own cell, and then use an =cell#&"-"&cell#&etc... to combine these returned values.
I know I can write a large if- chain using ISERROR & FIND, though some of these lists will get lengthy.

My spreadsheet has multiple "sessions" by date and each has three columns: a name, their organization, and a column where we want to display an "R" if they are a repeat participant. Each new session is entered to the right of the last. The names are in every third column. Like so:
name company R
name company
name company
name company R
Is it possible to search through the whole document to find repeating names, and then display an "R" in every third column if they are a repeat participant?

I am working with a macro into which you input a date, the macro searches for that date (in column D of the data sheet), then copies any row with that date onto a new sheet.
This works great, but now I need to be able to search for more than one date at a time and return any rows that cantain ANY of those dates. For example, I would want to search for any row containing 01/01/07 - 01/07/07 or any row containing 01/01/07, 01/02/07, 01/03/07...01/07/07.

I have a workbook with multiple sheets in it. One sheet is an Overview sheet, and the others represent the months (JAN, FEB, MAR, etc). On the Overview sheet, I have a few columns of data set up that I need to retrieve from the various sheets within the workbook. The thing is, this data can occur more than once on any particular sheet and it's very likely to occur multiple times throughout the workbook. For example, compressor #1 was blown down on January 1, January 15, February 5, February 9, February 12, April 22, and so on. Compressors 2-5 were also blown down multiple times throughout the year, as well as various other equipment that I have listed out throughout the numerous monthly tabs. On the Overview sheet, I have the columns Equipment, Date, Temp, Begin PSIG and MCF Loss. I'm needing to get the information from those tabs into these columns.
I first tried a simple VLOOKUP. After all, it's worked for so many situations similar to this, why wouldn't it work here? I quickly found that it won't work here because I need to return multiple results, not just the first one it comes across.
When I copy the formula down it seems to return the same results in every cell, not the next result, and the next, and the next, and so on.

I have four named ranges (Segment, Keyword, Impressions and Dropdown) and I would like to create a formula-based ranking of keywords by impressions and clicks. Using the following array formula, I am able to return the correct values for impressions or clicks:
{=LARGE(IF(Segment=DropDown,Impressions),$H7)} where $H7 is the number ranking 1, 2, 3 etc.
My question is what array formula could be used to find which row in the array returned that number and then pulls the data from the same row in the other named ranges?
Essentially find row of {=LARGE(IF(Segment=DropDown,Impressions),$H7)} but return Keyword and Clicks on that row.
Other Notes: I cannot use pivot tables and some values might be the same which would make Vlookups not accurate for duplicate values.
Link to an example document to clarify this. [URL] .......

Lets see if I can put this into words.
I am trying to find matches of a specific cell in various columns. Example:
Header 1 -------Header 2----------Header 3
-ABC123-----------abc123--------------abd123
-abd123-----------hjk321---------------hdn234
-Abc123-----------dsd123--------------sds332
If I searched for the value "abc123" I want it to return Headers 1 and 2 in a seperate column. It would not matter if the same value is in one column multiple times
So the results would show me the Column Heading for anything that reads: "abc123", "ABC123", "AbC123", "aBC123"
Is this possible?

I have a column with 11 different numbering schemes that go from 736466.01 through 736466.11 In the group from 736466.01 through 736466.07 I need to have the adjacent column look to those cells and if it finds 736466.01-.07 return "CM" if it is 736466.08-.11 I need it to return "TC". I created the formula below but it doesn't like something I have done unless I change the format of the 736466.xx to text. The problem I have is that in some cases the flight number can appear more than once in the column and the corresponding charge code is different. Is there a way of using a look up to find the flight number and bring back the corresponding Charge code in sheet2?
Please note I have attached a summorised version of the workbook, the actual Travel# in sheet2 is in column R and the Charge code in sheet2 is in column AD.

I'm looking to create a UDF called ListItems which will look through a range and create a one column contiguous list of non-blank values.
e.g. below is Range("A1:C3") --> ignore the Column Headers, they're just included for visual reference.
Column A
Column B
Column C
John
Peter
Mary
Andy
Dave
Karen
If the user used =ListItems(A1:C3) in cell D1, the result would be:
Column D
John
Peter
Mary
Andy
Dave
Karen
Couple of things to consider:
1. The user would most likely have to confirm this function with Ctrl+Shift+Enter --> that is fine
2. A UDF might not be the most efficient/suitable solution to this "problem", but I'm currently learning about UDFs, so am more interesting in how they work, than determining the most elegant/correct way to resolve this issue.
3. The order of the resultant values which I have used above (i.e. reading the range passed to the UDF from left to right one row at a time), is not critical, if it is easier to read top to bottom one column at a time, that would be absolutely fine too.
