I have a spreadsheet of 1000+ companies and I want to take a random sampling of 100 of them. I would assume this could be accomplished by auto-filling a numerical value to each line of data (which I did), then scrambling only the column with the numbers (which I can't figure out), and then selecting the entire text and resorting it to put the numbers back in order and then just work with the first 100 rows (which I can do, if I knew how to make the numbers random).

I have these two woorkbooks. One serves as a register of warranty cards and the other as a template of a warranty card. For each new warranty card I need the register to generate automatically a new consecutive number. This new number should automatically be loaded in a specific cell in the template document after opening it (with a hyperlink or a button from the register, for instance), so that I don't need to mannually type the number in the template.

Excel 2013 :: Generating Master Sheet From Other Sheets Within Same Workbook

I have a workbook with five sheets. One sheet is the Master and then one sheet each for four organizations. Each organization will populate data for their own sheet and I want Excel to automatically populate the Master with the info from each individual sheet.

I tried using and modifying the vba from this post [URL]). My workbook varies from the original in that the first seven rows are header rows so the first cell to be edited in each sheet is A8, I have 38 columns instead of 10, and I am using Excel 2013 instead of Excel 2003.

I figured out that I needed to change the vba to look like this to start copying from the first cell (A8) and to populate the master:

This seems to work, but until the first cell (A8) is populated in the organizations' sheets, it messes up the prior row on the Master (Row 7).

I've also noticed that undo becomes unavailable when switching between sheets and also copy/cut & paste between sheets doesn't work so I can't correct the way the script messes up the format initially (this I presume is due to the Copy Destination in the vba?).

Wondering if it is possible to generate a random 4 digit number based off an alphanumeric string?

Example;

Cell A1 has 123XVF1234
Cell A2 has 321AFW4321

In B1 I would like to have a 4-6 digit number that is generated based on the alphanumeric data in Cell A1 (and so on down the list). If that is possible, I would also need to be able to convert back the 4-6 digit number back to its original alphanumeric value

Example;

If B1 returns 643562 it would need to be able to be converted back to 123XVF1234

Running Userform From More Than One Sheet And Return To Original Sheet

I've got a User Form that works perfectly. It's activated on Chart Month sheet, you enter data into it and it switches to Comments sheet and copies the data, before returning back to the Chart Month sheet.

I have now added the same functionality to Chart Week sheet. Both Chart sheets use the same comments data, so it doesn't matter if you run the User Form from Chart Month or Chart Week. However, when I run the User Form from Chart Week then it switches to the Chart Month sheet once it copies the data, as I have Chart Month in the code. How do I get it to return to the sheet that it was originally on ie either Chart Week or Chart Month?

Running Total VBA - Add / Subtract Number In B And C?

I am creating a spreadsheet for inventory use. I want to have a running total in (1) cell based upon a new/different number being entered into a different cell.

Column B, Row 1 (This will be a new/different number entered every day - inventory in or out, so positive or negative number)

Column D, Row 1 (This will be a running total based on numbers inserted in previous 2 columns)

Basically what I have is a key inventory. So there is column A with key number, B should be keys IN, C should be keys OUT, or ideally B would be IN and OUT meaning, for inventory IN input a positive number and for inventory OUT input a negative number, and D Should be total.

Column E represents number of keys currently in the inventory. I was going to hide the current inventory column so all you see is IN/OUT and total. So what I need is to be able to just come in and type in a number in the IN and/or OUT column, without having to add/subtract it with the number already in that column.

Bottom line, I'd like to be able to use IN and/or OUT columns to just type in numbers as they come and not have to worry about what's already in those columns and get correct total number.

Ok here it is. Attached worksheet shows
Column A - Key Numbers...No data value
Column B - Inventory IN
Column C - Inventory OUT
Column D - Total
Column E - Current Inventory(Starting point)

So the formula I used to get what i currently have is (=B2-C2+E2). This way whatever i input in columns C and C. totals out in D. I'd like to be able to type in a number in B and C as i go and still have a correct total. I have a PO Template, which I use it to issue Purchase Order and keep track on monthly purchases.

This PO template allow me generate a fresh PO with feature of auto "Name" which is the running number for the PO.

However, i have a problem to generate the reference number in the sequence which tirelessly seach a way to work this out.

i am currently trying to figure out excel i have to fill this worksheet out daily and then at the end of the month i have to count the total number of items. I was wondering if there was a way to auto talley on a different sheet so that everytime i entered a product name and quantity if on the other sheet it would auto add it in
example:

I ate at mcdonalds (Main sheet)

On 11/22 I had 3 big macs and 4 quarter pounders,
On 11/24 I had 5 Big Macs and 2 quarter pounders
On 11/26 I had 12 Bigmacs and 5 quater pounders
(New Sheet) i want it to look like this:

Product quantity
Big macs (20) <-- this number i want to auto add from the notes made from main sheet)

So on another sheet i want to make a formula where for everytime i type in "big mac" on main sheet that on the other sheet it would auto add or keep a running tally so after i made those 3 entries on the main sheet it would show that i had a total of 20 big macs on the new sheet.

in which if the value in C2 changes then the ranges are choosen and borders and contents are cleared.

My question is When the value of C2 is changed, can i run scripts in another sheet?? The problem i am having is that the script isnt running on the 2nd sheet atm. I have even made C2 in sheet 2 equal C2 in sheet 1, but still unless the 2nd sheet is viable the scipt wont run.

Running Code On A Hidden Sheet

I have placed the code I am using below. It takes values from a hidden sheet (PACTAct) and places them on a visible sheet (Email). The code moves between the two.

It works at the minute by unhiding the PACTAct sheet then at the end re-hiding it. However I don't want the user to see this sheet whilst the vba is running. Is there a way I can simply refer to the worksheet without unhiding it?

Creating Running Total Of Different Sectors From One Sheet

I need to create running totals for each year of the Contract Values for each Sector that my Company deals with. There are 5 Sectors - C, M, W, WW and WtoE. Each possible contract has its own Contract Value.

For eg -

In the whole document we have previous year's contracts too - but I want to create running totals for each year - i.e. for 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014. How could I separate these easily?

Obviously the total depends on which sector we are looking at - I thought about using the IF formula - but realised that there would be a lot of IF's - is there an easier way of doing it? If not - what's the best way?

Error Running Macro When Sheet Is Protected

I am getting an error when I protect a worksheet and save it. Upon re-opening the worksheet, I try to use the cells that are being formatted by a macro, but I get the following error...

Run-time error '1004':

Unable to set the NumberFormat property of the Range Class.

If I open the worksheet and it is already protected from when I last closed it, then I get the error. If I unprotect the sheet, then close it and reopen it, then I don't get the error. Does anyone know what I might be missing or doing wrong.

Running Total- Sheet That Tracks Thousands Of Records

I am working on a excel sheet that tracks thousands of records. Basically, have 400+ employee's who have scores that need to be tracked. The scores are % based... to start we have 15+ columns but all that matter for these calculations is probably 3. We have score 1 which their required to hit 90% score 2 which is 80%, they are seperate scores. Some people dont count so we disqualify the formula from counting a 0. My current forumla is...

COUNTIF(K418,"<90")+COUNTIF(N418,"<80")-COUNTIF(N418,"=0") where the rows change for each record. We are counting the # of times they don't hit their goal. They can only be held accountable for one score a month not for both scores so created a 2nd column which has =IF(O418>=1,1,0) so if it came back with 2 counts it changed it to 1. OK, so background explained

Now the tricky part... we have a running total per month of how many times they did not hit their goal. We have a column with the mm/yyyy. So we have a pivot table which breaks down the associates by name department etc... and once completely drilled down into it gives a breakdown of their score for every month and then if they did or did not hit their goal by referencing the previous field I discussed. Currently it has a running sum, but I am stuck on the twist I need to throw in... if they meet their goal for 3 months straight, 1... we will call it "occurence" drops off. So for example.... Jan 1 Occurence, Feb 0, Mar 0, Apr 0. So in this case, Jan, Feb, Mar need a running total of 1. Once april hits, the running total needs to go back to 0. So if they got an "occurence" in May, the running total would go back to 1 instead of the current 2 my sum shows.

I imagine there has to be some way I can do this, but I have been thinking about this and hit a brick wall. Any idea's at all? For reference column A is the mm/yyyy (which can be reformatted differently pretty easily). Column K is score 1, column N is score 2, those are the 3 fields I reference for my forumulas currently, the pivot table uses everything else.

Here is an example of one associate.... the top row is the average for the associate and the sum of "occurences"... I want to or plan to have a running total section added on the side however if possible. This associates running total should be 2 instead of 3 as there was a 3 month gap for Mar, Apr, May so it would have been -1 in May as explained above.

i have a spread sheet which has a very complex simulaton in it. excel is not the ideal place for it, but it is not possible to port it wholesale to something more sensible. i have modified the code so that it is possible to run two copies of the spread sheet (in two seperate excel processes) at one time. Due to the dual core nature of the machine this has almost no overhead.

I have created a controlling spread sheet that is cabable of launching multiple copies of the simulation and starting the code executing. the problem is the controlling spread sheet always waits for the code to return before it continues, hence it would open two seperate versions of excel, start the first simulation executing and then wait until it completes before starting the next one. is there any way of starting a function in another work book without waiting for the execution to complete?
