Hide/Display Selected Columns

Jul 13, 2009

My boss wants me to create a macro to hide columns if there is a "X" on top of the column labels. The macro should be in toggle mode whereby the next pressing of the macro will unhide the hidden column.

There are more than 50 columns in my actual worksheet. The macro has to check column by column whether there is "X" marked on top and hide it if so.

The next pressing of the macro should then unhide all the hidden columns.

Hide / Unhide Columns With Selected Cells Change Font Size

Apr 21, 2014

I have recorded macro.

What I am trying to achieve is ....

When I select cell A2 and press command button Then - Columns C, D, E are unhidden

-Relative cells in selected row ( in this case C2,D2,E2) change font to 12

- When command button is pressed then C,D,E are hidden and font size goes back to 1

similarly if i select A3 same should happen to C3,D3,E3

Currently all is OK but when I press command button it all happens with the entire column C,D,E

Sample book attached.

Code is as follows:

Hide Columns & Hide X-axis Labels

Nov 22, 2006

I am filtering the data displayed in a chart by hiding columns. I would also like to filter the X-Axis labels by hiding columns. If I do this manually I have no problems but when I run the following macro the chart gives a reference error for the X-axis labels.

Sub ShowA2()
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
num = Sheets.Count
Sheets("X-Axis").Activate
Range(Columns(1), Columns(256)).Select
Selection.EntireColumn.Hidden = False
For a = 1 To 5

If ActiveSheet.Name = "A2 Data" Then
Columns("A:Q").Select
Range("A10").Activate
Selection.EntireColumn.Hidden = False
Sheets("X-Axis").Activate
Columns("A:E").Select......................

Display Selected Picture Value In A Cell

Feb 10, 2014

I have a number of pictures on sheet 1 that display names from cells in sheet 2

E.g.
Cell B1 in Sheet 2 has the value "Bob Jones"
Cell B2 in Sheet 2 has the value "Ian Jones"

In sheet 1 Picture1 has the formula =Sheet2!$B$1 so that the picture displays "Bob Jones"
Picture2 has the formula =Sheet2!$B$2 so that the picture displays "Ian Jones"

I have about 30 pictures displaying names in this way, but I want the name of the chosen picture to also appear in cell A1.

E.g. On sheet 1 user clicks on Picture 1 (Bob Jones), the name "Bob Jones" appeas in Cell A1
User clicks on Picture 2 (Ian Jones), the name "Ian Jones" appeas in Cell A1

Display Listbox Selected Entry?

Nov 20, 2012

I have a form control listbox, which is populated with filenames from a specific directory. When the user selects an entry I need that text to appear in a cell in the workbook. This is then concatenated with a folder path to open the file to copy and paste some data out into another workbook. I have tried...

Code:
Sub GetWrbkbkname()
Dim strlist As String
strlist = Sheet1.Listbox18.Text
Sheet1.Cells(1, 1) = strlist
End Sub

But receive the method or data member not found error. The cell link property just returns the position in the list! I need the text!!

The only workound I could think of was populating a space in the SS with the directory contents and using the cell link value in a choose function to return the selected workbook name.

Hide Rows With Calculated Value Of 0 When New Department Is Selected

Jul 29, 2014

I have multiple departments and on each department we report the costs in four columns this month, budget, last month and last year. I have summed across the row to a hidden column and if the value is 0 I have a basic macro that "hides" the zero value rows. I understand I could further automate the process by having an "event" based in the spreadsheet which when the calculated values change the macro will run. This would mean when looking at the next department the zeros would automatically be hidden. I suspect I need a worksheet_calculate event but not been able to make it work.

Hide/unhide User Selected Rows

May 15, 2007

I'm trying to create a macro that allows users to hide or unhide selected rows, either via toggle or userform. The macro I have looks like this, but for some reason it doesn't hide the rows:

Sub Hide_Range()
Dim UserRange As Range
DefaultRange = Selection.Address
Set UserRange = Application.InputBox _
(Prompt:="Select Range to Hide:", _
Title:="Hide Range", _
Default:=DefaultRange, _
Type:=8)
Rows.Select
Selection.EntireRow.Hidden = True
End Sub

what's wrong with my code and how I can further develop it to let the user decide whether to hide or unhide the selected rows?

Display Msgbox When Item Selected From Combo Box

Dec 8, 2007

Im using code from website: http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal11.html

to display a combobox when I double click any cell that contains a validation list in it. I'm not great with VBA so I am having problems finding what each part of the code does. This is causing problems for another bit of code that I use to display a msgbox when certain values are selected from the list.

The MsgBox shows up great when I select an item from the validation list but does not work at all when I select the same item from the double-clicked combo box. It would be great if I could get the MsgBox to work both ways. This is the code that displays the MsgBox when target value is selected from list

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Select Case Target.AddressLocal(False, False)
Case Is = "B4", "B5", "B6", "B7", "B8", "B9", "B10", "B11", "B12"
If Target.Value = "H" Then
MsgBox "This is a pop for extra information. Savvy?", vbYesNo, "Yo!"
End If
End Select
End Sub...............

Find Day Of Week Of Today And Display Date Of Selected Day?

Mar 9, 2014

I may be making this more complicated than it needs to be but I can't seem to figure it out. The goal of this spreadsheet is for General Managers of a restaurant to give feedback about food deliveries. These deliveries usually come on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, but could for a list of reasons come on any day of the week. I want to automatically populate as much information as possible without requiring GMs to remember and enter dates.

A1 is =TODAY()
A2:A5 is a drop down where the GM selects the day of the week the delivery arrived. i.e. MON, TUE, WED, etc. I want the corresponding date of the past week to auto-populate in this cell (or even the adjacent cell if necessary) once the day is selected. For example, if today is 3/8/2014, when MON is selected in A2, I want the cell to automatically add "3/3/2014," making the entire cell read "MON 3/3/2014."

So if said GM is filling in this spreadsheet on a Saturday, and I want to display the date of the previous Monday, I need to find the day of the week of A1 (WEEKDAY function), and make A2 = A1-5.

If today is a Friday, it would be A2=A1-4, and so on for the 7 days of the week.

Then I would need to do all of this for if a Tuesday is selected in the drop down box, meaning IF(Saturday)Then A2=A1-4, etc...

I was trying to string together IF statements like this:

=IF(WEEKDAY(TODAY()=7),A1-5), IF(WEEKDAY(TODAY()=6),A1-4)

It works when I do only the first IF statement, but when I add another it returns #VALUE. I thought that excel would find the first true value and stop evaluating.

How To Hide / Display Text

Feb 13, 2013

I am trying to hide/display text by using form fields. I swiped the idea from a spreadsheet I obtained from a vendor and thought I would extend it to suit my purpose.

When I check the box for "table one", I'd like for the data that I have associated with it to display. When I uncheck the box, I would like for that data to be hidden. The goal is to be able to choose one data source and see at a glance which fields come from that source and what their names are. The formulas that currently exist for the cells in column I do a nice job of putting text in a field when the box is checked, but I don't want to have to rewrite the formula in the cell if/when the source of the data changes. It's a lot of long schema/table/field names. Maybe that's the only way, though...

I scrubbed and mocked up column J to try to demonstrate. It's sorta color coded.

And it might be that using form fields is not the best way to hide/display text based on source type.

Hide Picture By Default, Display If Macros Enabled

Apr 7, 2008

Basically, I want cell A1 to display the message "Macros must be enabled for this document to display properly", then have that text replaced with a picture (jpeg logo) if macros are enabled. I know I need to put the code in the Workbook_Open sub, but I keep getting the "error 1004, cannot modify visible property of picture object" when I try to tinker with "visible = true".

*EDIT* - The picture must be embedded in the spreadsheet somehow, and hidden from view when macros are disabled. (Having the picture crammed into a single cell at IV65536 is fine.)

Sum Selected Columns For Single Row

Aug 13, 2013

I'm trying to sum selected columns of a specific row in a spreadsheet. The row name is to be matched to the same name in a different sheet; the column headings are also found on that separate sheet. I've tried SUM using INDEX and MATCH, but it's not working (most recently I get #N/A). I'm trying to do this sum for each separate row, first through sixth, with varying columns for each row.

I'm not opposed to getting into VBA, but wanted to see if there was something that I missed with the regular formulas.

My most recent iteration is:
=SUM(INDEX('Current'!$A$1:$G$16,MATCH($A6,'Current'!$A$1:$A$7,FALSE),MATCH($B6,'Current'!$A$1:$A$16,FALSE)):INDEX('Curre nt'!$A$1:$G$16,MATCH($A6,'Current'!$A$1:$A$7,FALSE),MATCH($C$2,'Current'!$A$1:$A$16,FALSE)))
