Hide Or Remove Zero Values From DDE Links
Jun 13, 2009
I'm using a dde link to import stock data into a workbook. The service that I use didn't create time templates when they wrote the excel add in for intraday data.
Because of that I get zeros in data fields when the stock isn't being traded. For example, when I update in the morning the stock hasn't been traded in three hours, so when requesting hourly data I have three rows where the Open, High, Low, and Close columns are field with zeros.
Is there anything that I can add into the dde array that would have excel only import data with price value greater than 0?
I've been trying to weigh my options but my excel experience is limited.

I have a workbook linked to another one. When I try to change the links to another book, I get a message ' the cell orchart your are trying to change is protected and therefore read only". I have checked and doubled checked and cannot find any worksheet that is protected. How can I find the problem cell or change the link to another book? I have the password but cannot find the worksheet?

I have a spreadsheet that was given to me from an outside source, and a lot but not all of the cells (seem to be random) have links associated with them so that if you click a cell, it opens a new internet browser window directing to the link. Is there a way for me to remove every single one of these links without having to go cell by cell looking for each one ?

I have some cells in Column I which are linked to the respective cells in Column J, i.e. I17 is linked to the J17, I21 has a link to J21. Now what I want is to convert every cell in column I which has a link to column J into values so that when I delete the column J, the values in column I should not change.
Simply selecting the entire column I, copying it and then pasting as values is not required, as there are some cells in column I which has some functions, and there are other cells which has links to other areas of worksheet and workbook. I just want to convert the cells in column I which has any link to column J. Is there a way to achieve this?

When copying data from a closed workbook, I frequently get the prompt:
"Links to 'Source.xls' were not updated because 'Source.xls' was not recalculated before it was last saved.
To update links with current values in 'Source.xls', click OK..."
Is there a way I can bypass this prompt and automatically update with the saved (uncalculated) values and therefore not require a user intervention?

There are 2 sheets in the file attached.
-Data : Contain all the acc number and balance.
-Working : a sheet for my working to derive what I want . A string contain all the Acc Number
Bascially first I will paste and copy the acc number and balance from an external source to Data, then I wan to create a string of all the acc. This is done by the working from my Working Sheet.
In my Working Sheet, first It will take the value from the Data Sheet. Since the number of Acc / Balance may differ, I wan to know how to remove the 0 and #Num! for those null values.
Following that, I create a column sorting the all number from smallest to biggest, following by next column forming up the string. I do not want the same Acc to repeat in the string.

I'm currently using the macro below to modify the two cells next to a date field in a template. The number of rows this will run through could vary from 2 to over 1 million, but the columns will always be the same. Because of the size of the datasets, this macro can run for quite a while, which is fine, but I'm thinking there's probably a better way to do it. To clarify, the object of this part of the macro is to determine if the date falls on a Saturday, and if so, change the value of the two cells to the right of the date to "0"

We are having a problem merging our databases. We are using excel to streamline databases to be included in our GiftWorks database of donors. However we are having the problem of many duplicates with multiple addresses, contact info etc. I have come to find that there is no way other than the "bitch work" method of going thru by hand in the GiftWorks database to find duplicates. However we can make a smartlist and export to excel and then perhaps merge the new info with this one. I was just wondering if there is anyway to sort duplicates and merge their information by first name/last name.

So for a project I need to put together a list of Portuguese-speaking last names. So I have various sources where I copied from, so I have one column in excel where I put all that data. I sorted the data to be in the correct alphabetical order. But when I try to remove the duplicate values in that column is says it removed them but it didn't and when it does it leaves many behind. I have tried the trim function, and even formatting but nothing works. I attached the non-formatted and non-trimmed list, because it doesn't seem to be making a difference.

Remove duplicate but add values.xlsx
I have about 800 records and the the unique identifier are the names. Some owners are repeated several times and they have different values for the EDU column in my project. I need to remove any duplicated owners but I need to add up the values of each record that had value so I can get a combined value for one owner instead of a repeated owner with smaller values. How would I go by doing that? A formula or is there a tool in excel? I am lost on this one. I uploaded a sample file so you can see what I trying to do.
BTW i found if the values are the same for the EDU then I can not add them since it is also duplicated. I can only add up the unique values for the EDU.

Column A has values increasing by 1 but not necessarily each row, i.e.
1 1 1 2 2 2 3 3 3 4 4 4 4 5 5 5 5 7 7 7 8 8 9 10 10 11 11 11 11 12 13 13 14 14 14
I have a listbox which I want to Initialize by listing these values but not duplicating them (so in this case it would contain 1-14). Here is the mindblowingly complicated code I currently have:
[Code].....
This gives me the list as it appears on the sheet but doesn't get rid of the duplicates for me.

I often have to OCR files in Adobe and then copy the data as a table into Excel. Sometimes when I move the data over these little boxes with question marks inside will appear infront of the data in the cells. I can delete the square from the spell by just backspacing after it but I don't want to have to do that for hundreds of cells individually. Googling around I found a formula: =RIGHT(A1, LEN(A1)-1)
That formula will get rid of the box, once the box is removed I need to be able SUM the values, but I am still unable to. I've tried to copy and paste the values before using the SUM function but that does not work, I've also tried to SUM before removing the box but that does not work either. I've found that if I double click in the cells after using the formula that it will allow me to use the SUM function but that would require me to double click hundreds of cells individually. Also, just in case this matters, a little green flag appears in the upper left corner of the affected cells after I use the previously mentioned formula.

Is there a quick way to remove duplicate values from a ROW. The "Remove Duplicates" operation under the "Data" tab only works for a column selection and not a row selection.
One approach I am thinking about, is to transpose the row into a column, run "remove duplicates" and then transpose again into a row.

Having some trouble with the syntax to translate the content of a string. The string will always contain stock tickers, but the format varies. I need to normalize them into something like ticker(space)exchange code.
For example, cell 1 can contain:
ABC.EF US - I need to remove the .EF so I'm left with ABC US
ABCDEF.GH TT - I need to remove the .GH so I'm left with ABCDEF TT
The length of the part preceeding the "." will vary, as will the last two characters (the exchange code). I expect that there will always be two characters immediately after the "." which are to be removed.
