View 2 RepliesHow would the attached file code be ammended to remove a blank row and then move all remaining rows below up one ?
Example: Open the attached file (Transport Log version 1). If you double-click in cell "X10" (for patient Abe Lincoln), the data for row 10 will be removed and written to Sheet #2. Closing the file and reopening, row 10 is empty with other rows below remaining. The goal is to move the data in rows 11 and 12 (and any subsequent rows that may be entered below those) up one row.
The above method would be an indication to users making subsequent entries to always use the first empty row below all existing data.
I have a function (courtesy of Walkanbach) to create a userform, very useful as it means I keep memory down as I can create the UF's as I go and tweak to suit.
I have been trying to get the userform to be removed when the user closes it. The close action in this case is the X button top right as this userform only has the userform itself and a listbox.
When I set the code for the event procedure it doesn't error, but nothing happens. The microsoft help pages seem to suggest that you can't remove a userform through vba, but I find that hard to believe. I've tried variations on the close procedure and all to no avail so far.
Dim xInt As Integer
With TempForm.CodeModule
xInt = .CountOfLines
.InsertLines xInt + 1, "Private Sub TempForm_Terminate()"
.InsertLines xInt + 2, "ThisWorkbook.VBProject.VBComponents.Remove TempForm"
.InsertLines xInt + 3, "End Sub"
End With
I have been deleting some VBComponents by using the .remove command and they get tagged for deletion but do not actually get deleted until after my VBA sub ends and control is returned to excel.
I would like to save the changes before control is returned to the user. I'm not really sure why the deletion is being held up until execution ends, it even waits until all calling functions have also finished their execution.
how you can remove the close 'X' on the title bar of a user form please? I have used this for a password input box but if the user selects the 'X' on the title bar then it closes the password box without them having to enter a password and allows them into the workbook.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an issue where users to a work book are selecting autofilter and then saving the document with rows filtered out, which I wish to prevent or at least warn them to remove the filter before allowing the save function.
The document is never 'Save As', it's always 'Save' from the toolbar icon.
They should be permitted to save the document, but only after this check has been completed and a message issued if the filter is on.
Is it possible to use a function that removes all toolbars upon opening the workbook and reinstates the same upon closing, the work book i am currently using does the following as described in the code. however the function is limited in that only toolbars stated in the code will be removed, if for instance there was an adobe toolbar, that remains on the screen. or is there a better way of going about this? On open:
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Run ("CreatePReturn")
Run ("CreateProceed")
With Application
.CommandBars(" Formatting").Visible = False
.CommandBars("Standard").Visible = False
.CommandBars("Drawing").Visible = False
.CommandBars("Return").Visible = False
.CommandBars("Proceed").Visible = False

.CommandBars(" Chart Menu Bar").Enabled = False
.DisplayFormulaBar = False
.DisplayStatusBar = False
End With

.DisplayHeadings = False
.DisplayHorizontalScrollBar = False
.DisplayVerticalScrollBar = False
.DisplayWorkbookTabs = False
End With.................................
I've found a link on OzGrid "How to remove the (X) CloseButton from Userforms" but I can't seem to get it to work with Excel 2003. The code looks like it was written for Excel '95, '97 and 2000.
View 6 Replies View Relatedthis has to be the easiest thing ever. I want to (on opening one file) open another, and hide it (the second file), and then when closing the first file, I want to close the second file as well....
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly elaborate close-down routine for my workbook.
1) Quit out of fullscreen (restore initial state of excel before saving)
2) Hide all sheets but one (enforces cant do anything unless macros enabled)
3) Automatically save without a prompt
4) Close the workbook
I've researched it well and implemented it to the point where it works, but only if the user clicks the excel application close button -- the "X" in the titlebar (hence not in fullscreen).
However, if I launch the process via a userform button click, then for some reason the
DisplayFullscreen = False, Sheets hiding, and save codes have no effect (fullscreen persists, sheets are not hidden, no file is saved) in the Workbook_BeforeClose() subroutine....
I repeat: all the above works fine if process was launched by "native" excel button, but does not have any effect if launched from a userform commandbutton. (?!?!) any ideas what's going on?
I'm including my code so you can get an idea how it's structured.... by it's pretty "by the forum" as far as I can tell...
Private Sub CloseButton_Click()
If(1) Then
'Method 1 - close directly from userform command button
With ThisWorkbook
'.RunAutoMacros (xlAutoClose)
.Close
End With
Else
'Method 2 - set a timer to call a function to perform
' "ThisWorkbook.close" in a function outside of the userform
CustMenuCloseTimer = Now + TimeSerial(0, 0, 2)
Application .OnTime CustMenuCloseTimer, "CustMenu_CloseAction"
End If
End Sub
I'm using a dde link to import stock data into a workbook. The service that I use didn't create time templates when they wrote the excel add in for intraday data.
Because of that I get zeros in data fields when the stock isn't being traded. For example, when I update in the morning the stock hasn't been traded in three hours, so when requesting hourly data I have three rows where the Open, High, Low, and Close columns are field with zeros.
Is there anything that I can add into the dde array that would have excel only import data with price value greater than 0?
I've been trying to weigh my options but my excel experience is limited.
Is there a way to hide the content of a cell that already contains a formula but when you sort it and remove the blanks it not remove that cell?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make a save&close workbook macro.
I found several examples on google, but unfortunatly it conflicts with another macro I use for forceing users to enable macros (hide all sheets except one if macros are disabled).
The attached file is an example contaning the save&close code and the show/hide sheets depending on macros enabled.
If the file is opened with macros disabled then only one sheet will be visible.
If the file is opened with macros enabled other sheets are visible.
The problem if that this code uses a custom save, witch makes the save&close not save... (in module1 and in ThisWorkbook)
The pourpose of the save&close is to make sure some users don't forget the excel open and thus block access to it. So if a certain idele time passes excel has to save and close without any confirmation messages.
I would like to modify one of my UserForms so the close button [the "X" in the upper corner] will not be visible. [It does not matter if this must involve hiding the upper the title bar - or not - as long as the little "X" will vanish].
I would like to point out that I DO NOT want to disable the "X" fronm closing the form [that I know how to accomplish] I just want to get rid of it. I have been told to look for a good example in a file called: "NoCloseButton.zip", created by Stephen Bullen, at http://www.bmsltd.ie/Excel/Default.htm but had no success in finding the file.
I am using Excel 2003.
It’s been working perfectly up until around an hour ago. However, now when I close Excel, I get compile errors.
These compile errors seem to be because Excel is trying to access controls in the workbook after it has closed. Since the workbook is closed, VBA can no longer ‘see’ the controls, and therefore it thows up errors.
I’m also getting a similar error on a Worksheets("DataExplorer").unprotect line, which seems to be because the worksheet isn’t there after closing.
These errors only occur when I close the whole excel application using the big cross in the top right. If I just close the workbook (using the smaller cross just below the big cross in the top right of excel), it doesn’t throw up these errors.
Just to clarify: all of the code runs perfectly when Excel is open. The errors are being thrown up for lines of code which run without problem until Excel is closed.
I need to know the command to close a workbook. I have used the information found here: http://www.ozgrid.com/VBA/userform-close.htm to disable closing the workbook via the upper right "X", but I need a button that, when clicked, simply closes the workbook instead.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have found a very useful UDF for removing non-alpha characters from strings. (See below, Credit for posting to Stanley D Grom - Ozgrid post ´Removing Non-alpha Characters From Text´).
Option Explicit
Private Function RemoveCharacters(InString As String) As String
Dim intLoopCounter As Integer
Dim intStringLength As Integer
Dim intASCIIVal As Integer
intStringLength = Len(InString)
InString = LCase(InString)
For intLoopCounter = 1 To intStringLength
intASCIIVal = Asc(Mid(InString, intLoopCounter, 1))
If intASCIIVal >= 97 And intASCIIVal <= 122 Then
RemoveCharacters = RemoveCharacters + Mid(InString, intLoopCounter, 1)
End If
Next intLoopCounter
End Function
Two requests:
1. Could the UDF be modified such that any part of a string contained within brackets is also removed (e.g. "NLGA High Street (West-Enfield), EN6" becomes "nlgahighstreeten")?
2. Can an argument be added to the format of the UDF, such that numbers (0 to 9) are either included or excluded (e.g. RemoveCharacters(A1,1) where the argument ´1´ would include any numbers (0 to 9), so "NLGA2003 High Street (West-Enfield), EN6" becomes "nlga2003highstreeten6")? ´blank´or ´0´would exclude these numbers, i.e. would return "nlgahighstreeten"
I want to create a macro that checks whether a specified range of columns is hidden, and
a) hide them if they are not hidden, or
b) unhide them if they are hidden,
i.e. toggle the Hide state.
What method can I use to query the hidden state of a selected range of columns and return a boolean value?
I have a macro in which i can enter the rows i want to hide.
If i want to hide "position 32" i have to enter the number 8 of the row. This works fine. But now if i want to hide the "position 32" from Sheet1 it also should hide the rows 4-8 from Sheet2 [Data with 32].
Or if i hide "position 34" in Sheet1 [row 10] it also should hide the rows 14-18 in Sheet2.
Sub Button294_Click()
If Sheet1.Range("A34:A94") = "HIDE" Then
For Each cell In Range("A27:A94")
If UCase(cell.Value) = "HIDE" Then
cell.EntireRow.Hidden = True
End If
End Sub
I am filtering the data displayed in a chart by hiding columns. I would also like to filter the X-Axis labels by hiding columns. If I do this manually I have no problems but when I run the following macro the chart gives a reference error for the X-axis labels.
Sub ShowA2()
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
num = Sheets.Count
Sheets("X-Axis").Activate
Range(Columns(1), Columns(256)).Select
Selection.EntireColumn.Hidden = False
For a = 1 To 5
Sheets(num - a).Activate
If ActiveSheet.Name = "A2 Data" Then
Columns("A:Q").Select
Range("A10").Activate
Selection.EntireColumn.Hidden = False
Sheets("X-Axis").Activate
Columns("A:E").Select......................
If A1 is also found below A1 (A2,A3,etc) then "HIDE" otherwise "DON'T HIDE"
I want to create a formula which finds out if a value exists below it in the same column. I could then use a filter to remove rows contain the word "HIDE" which will leave me with only rows with DON't HIDE. Then Column A will only contain unique values.How would I create a formula like this?
I want a macro that looks in range of column M to Column R if there are no consecutive blank cells.
If there is one cell who is no blank,then exit
If there are consecutive blank cells from M to R then a messagebox: One cell must be filled!
This can be done for all the rows in the sheet. (used range).
I have the following Macro setup and I would like the macro to run once the Save button is clicked.
Sub LetterCol()
Columns("C:C").Select
Selection.Copy
Range("D1").Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _
:=False, Transpose:=False
Columns("D:D").EntireColumn.AutoFit
Range("A1").Select
Application.CutCopyMode = False
Range("D1").Select
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "Letter Column"
Range("A1").Select
End Sub
I can't close out of my spreadsheet (xlsm). I press on the x in the upper right and nothing happens. I've been using the spreadsheet for a long time, but it just started happening yesterday.

I have a file with about 30 sheets and a size of 14 meg. When the file is saved by using the save button it seems to save. When the file is closed the Microsoft crash message appears. The changes seem to save and if you choose not to have Excel attempt to repair the file everything seems fine.
The other odd behavior the file has that is if you run a for loop on any tab it takes about 3-4 minutes to run. If you copy the tab to another book and run the same code it runs in 3-4 seconds. Any ideas?
