How To Leave Truly Empty Cell If Criteria For IF Statement Is FALSE
Jul 2, 2014
How to leave a cell truly empty if the criteria of my IF statements is untrue. Currently, I'll write something like:
[Code] ....
But for some reason, when I copy and paste the resulting range of values elsewhere (to rid myself of the formula that determined them), the cells that did not return a value (where the statement is FALSE), are not recognized by a "Go To Special > Blanks" request, until I select all of the "empty cells" and clear them manually. Yet when I try to do a search on the same range for an empty space, I get no hits.

How is it possible to leave a cell in a set color, if nothing is entered in the cell? And is it possible to merge it with it with existing formulas allready in the cell?

Its probably very simple question, but i can not work it out.
I am trying to design a simple worksheet so I can keep track of how much money my room mate has paid me and what she owes. She pays $142 a week rent plus $23 a month for internet.
Please open the attached workbook. You can see in E7 and 8 there is a red negative number. This is because my tenant hasn't paid me yet for those weeks (D7 & 8).
How can i get these cells to read $0 or leave the cell empty?
The reason why I need this to read $0 or nothing is because it is messing up my next calculation in D3 where it works out how much she has paid for our internet bill.
Thanking you in advance. And sorry if this is a really daft question. Its probably something really simple i have missed.

This is the result that I would like to achieve
A
B
C
D

MONTH IN TEXT
MONTH IN NUMBER

When i use
Code:
=IF(ISBLANK(I31);"";I31-IF(ISNUMBER(J31);J31;0))
The cell gives me an error, i think because I31 has a formula that returns no value.
How can i stop the formula if cell I31 gives me no data??

I am trying to perform a calculation in a cell that leaves the value 0 if before Feb 2014, changes to the value of another cell in Feb 2014 and leaves the value unchanged if after Feb 2014. I can get to the Feb 2014 value but after that month the value changes to 0.
The Cell formula that I am trying to use is as follows:
=IF(YEAR($A$3)<2014,"0",(IF(YEAR($A$3)>2014,H114,(IF(MONTH($A$3)<>2,H114,AA118)))))
A3 contains TODAY()
H114 is the cell being calculated
AA118 is the cell containing the calculated value for the current month.

I'm trying to write an If statement that only changes the cell if it's true.
If its false it leaves what is in the cell alone.
This is what I have so far:
HTML Code:
=if(a5>=today(),"payment",----if not, don't change what is in the cell-----)

Perhaps a bit cryptic but here is where I'm looking for.
Cell A1 gets the value YES (or NO) assignment by the user.
Cell B1 has some calculated value let's say 4 based on the formula If(A1="YES";2+2)
Now If the user assigns "NO" to A1 the value of Cell B1 becomes FALSE (return value of second part of the If statement)
I do not want the value of B1 changed if A1=NO and to stay the same (4)

Is a Cell with a formula (like shown below) considered true, or is it empty?
=IF(Scorecard!$B$13,Scorecard!$AD$4,"")
If Scorecard!$B$13 was False...
Would a cell with the above formula be considered?
True or Empty?
If Scorecard!$B$13 was True...
A cell with the above formula would be True.

I'm trying to set up my formula so that if there is no criteria match, rather than returning 0 it leaves the cell blank.
(I recommend skipping the below text and just opening the attached spreadsheet, instructions/what I'm looking for and trying to achieve and well laid out requirements and examples are in the spreadsheet and much more thoroughly explained then I can do below)
I'm setting up a table that grabs data from columns in a raw data spreadsheet.
For the purpose of the table I'm making, the formula needs to match up both the House, and the year/month from the raw data sheet, then if the two match and are side by side, return the value to the right either in the Plan Field or the actuals field depending on which field in the table the formula is in. If there is no entry or matching criteria for both the house and Month then it should leave the cell blank, not show a 0
So I have a SUMIFS formula that I'm trying to set up so that if there is no criteria match it leaves the cell blank.
So =SUMIFS(sum range, criteria& range, criteria&range), if no matching criteria can be found, leave cell blank, else if matching criteria found then return value from the sumrange.
This is the exact formula I am using:
=SUMIFS(INDEX('Raw Data'!$1:$1048576, 0, MATCH(Table!$B9, 'Raw Data'!$1:$1, 0)), INDEX('Raw Data'!$1:$1048576, 0, MATCH(Table!$A$8, 'Raw Data'!$1:$1, 0)), Table!$A$9, INDEX('Raw Data'!$1:$1048576, 0, MATCH(Table!$B$8, 'Raw Data'!$1:$1, 0)), TEXT(Table!C$8, "yyyymm"))
Yeah kind of hard to follow, so attached is a very detailed and well laid out spreadsheet showing the example of what the formula is, how it's working/what it's returning and an example of what i want it to return/look like, so please check out the spreadsheet, it explains it a million times better.
Essentially though i want the formula set up so that if there is no criteria match, rather than returning 0 it leaves the cell blank.

this must be very simple but I dont see it.
= IF(A2 = 50;F2;A2)
this gives me circular reference. All I want is if the value is = 50 to change the cell value, otherwise to leave the old value intact, as it is.
If I write something like this:
= IF(A2 = 50;F2)
the cell is assigned FALSE, and the old value is overwritten.
How can I avoid setting to the FALSE value, without having the ciruclar reference error ?

I do construction work, and to save on record-keeping, I'm trying to autopopulate a "summary" excel table by only filling out my "accounting" table. I made a sample table, and I'm having a hard time linking it.
For instance, I fill in rows 2 through 9 of the accounting table. Then on the next tab, The concrete section automatically grabbed rows 2 and 8. What I can't figure out, is how to get the summary table to autopopulate without leaving blank rows for rows 3 through 7.

Trying to look at cell I2 to see if it's blank, has the current expiration date of 9/1/2014, or has an earlier expiration date.
I'm entering in K2 the following: IF(I2="","",IF(I2="9/1/2004","OWES","C")) At this point if the cell is blank it will show blank in K2 but if there is a date it always shows C.

I have the following cells set up in a worksheet.
I have the following formula set for each of the cells -
=IF(U5>1,U5-1,T5)
=IF(T5>1,T5-1,S5)
=IF(S5>1,S5-1,R5) and so on.
Serial No.1 Serial No.2 Serial No.3 Serial No.4 Serial No.5 Serial No.6
#VALUE!#VALUE! #VALUE! #VALUE! 1005 1006
The T5, S5 and R5 are (I thought) the "False" value which would be returned, but all I am getting (if for example T5 was blank) is #Value

The formula I am having issues with is:
=IF(L14="YES",IF(B14="","",NETWORKDAYS(B14,IF(AH14="",TODAY(),AH14),IF(L14="NO",NETWORKDAYS(B14,IF(V14="",TODAY(),V14))))))
I'm looking for formula to return a value based on the amount of networkdays between 2 dates.
Column L has a drop down for
"YES" and "NO"
If "YES" is selected then I need the formula to subtract AH from B (if B is blank I don't want the formula to return anything)
if AH has no date then I want it to use todays date.
If "NO" is selected then I need the formula to subtract V from B (again, if B is blank I don't want the formula to return anything)
if V has no date then I want it to use todays date.
The formula seems to work for everything as it is EXCEPT when L is "NO" it only return FALSE.

if Statement A: =IF(M4>$B$17,0,LOOKUP(M4,$AA$20:$AB$29)*$B$15/12) works very well
if Statement B: =IF(M4>$B$17,0,LOOKUP(M4,$AA$36:$AB$44)*$B$15/12) works well too
now I am trying to say
=IF('Input Page'!B36="yes",(IF(M4>$B$17,0,LOOKUP(M4,$AA$36:$AB$44)*$B$15/12),(IF(M4>$B$17,0,LOOKUP(M4,$AA$20:$AB$29)*$B$15/12))))
Basically, if B36 is yes, use If Statement B, otherwise IF Statement A. If I write Yes, I get a "Value" error, if I change the yes to 1, I get a FALSE error.

Write if statement or any other formula: if cell C3 is less then 0 then "over due", if = 0 then "due" and if more then zero then "not due yet" otherwise preferably nothing, because that would mean that the cell is empty.

Column A: T/F
Column B: True/False
Here's what I want in a sentence: If one of the cells in grouped row is "T", column B = True, if not then column B = False.
(row groups are separated by a blank row)
Example)
Col A,Col B
TTRUE
FTRUE
[Code] ....
I came up with following formula:
=IF(MATCH(TRUE,INDEX(ISBLANK(A1:A17),0),0)>MATCH("T",A1:A17,0),TRUE,"")
It checks to see if blank cell is found before "T" but it doesn't look rows above.

I have a worksheet called "Raw Data" where in columns J, I and G contain values. I would like to write a formula whereby if all 3 conditions are met, it will count the number of values found in column C.
I've tried to write an IF statement but it just returns FALSE, despite the result being true. Need the right combination of IF/AND statements that would do this?
=IF(AND('Raw Data'!$J:$J="Maintenance",'Raw Data'!$I:$I="Open",'Raw Data'!$G:$G="1-2008"),COUNT('Raw Data'!$C:$C)). I've tried to attach the workbook, but there's a problem with uploading attachments I think. Sorry if my explanation is unclear.

I'm looking to use an if/and statement to give back a true of false but it doesnt seem to be working, I'll give an example, I want excel to search a set of cells to see if its blank and another cell to see whats written there(from a pull down menu) and if both of them are true I conditionally format to go green, otherwise stay white. It works for one cell, condition below:
=AND(Anoop!B3="IIC",NOT(ISBLANK(Anoop!C3)))
but I cant get it to do this
=AND(Anoop!B3:13="IIC",NOT(ISBLANK(Anoop!C3)))
i.e search the entire column
I was also wondering if it was possible if it found an "IIC" in B8 how I could get it to check C8, D8 etc..

I need to create a leave tracker wherein i will get the names of the person who want to take leave in that particular month. I have prepared a calendar to make an entry. I need to take care of the following things
1) The person must have sufficient leave balance available to take the leave. so i have to first check if he/she has sufficient leave balance.
2) There are four team leaders and each team has around 13-14 members. so if lots of people from the same team apply for the leave then they will not be eligible for leave. this i want to know in percentage as to how much percentage of people are taking leave from that particular team.
