If Statement To Long, Drag It Down To The Rest Of The Column
Jul 7, 2006
I am trying to write the following statement in a cell in excel lets say O3 so I can drag it down to the rest of the column, I was trying to see if there was a previous posting about this but I didn't find it. the if statement goes like this:
=IF(M3=Sheet3!$B$2,Sheet3!$C$2,IF(Sheet1!M3=Sheet3!$B$3,Sheet3!$C$3,IF(M3=Sheet3!$B$3,Sheet3!$C$3,....until it reaches to if(Sheet3!$B$20,Sheet3!$C$20,"PENDING"))
Is there a way I can do this I know probably through a VBA but I have no idea how to set it up.
I have created a very long switch statement, which is too long to be placed in one row in VBA. I have attempted to put a space and underscore at the end of one line and continue the statement on the row below by placing a comma at the start of the second line. VBA will accept my efforts, but when I run the statement in the immediate window, the following error appears.
"Invalid procedure call or argument"
I understand that there are certain rules where I can split a switch statement onto two lines, yet I do not know what they may be.
I'm working on a spreadsheet that i have a long if statement and it keeps till me i have a error. I stated reading and come to find out you can only have 7 statement.
I've attached an example of what I am trying to achieve and an explanation as well. I'm trying to avoid the use of a macro as I don't understand them and I will need to modify the sheet later on which could cause problems. However, if a macro is the only solution, then I will have to make due with one.
I have a formula which is currently too long and which I'm sure could be done more efficiently. That plus Excel is saying the formula is too long. I have pasted the formula below and broken it up for clarity:
I was trying to search for a set of keywords in column1 and if the logic is true then print predefined word in column 2. The problem is I have 14 sets of keywords for which I tried creating the longest if statement only to find out that the limit is 7. Below are few of the sets.
I manage to use formula find for 1 text in 1 statement, but in confuse how to get another text found if i have "8 text" to find. Generally, there will only be "1 text" for each statement.
Maybe in 1 statement there have only "IC" or "Staff Tagging" or Name" or "Product" or etc till 8.
I have part of this routine working correctly. It will go and find the value I need and move to the next column using the Offset method, but now what am I doing wrong to try and get the code to select to the end of the current column?
Sub Find_First() Dim FindString As String Dim rng As Range 'FindString = InputBox("Enter a Search value") FindString = Worksheets("Template").Range("A26").value If Trim(FindString) <> "" Then With Sheets("Service Level Score Paste Sheet").Range("A:A") Set rng = .find(What:=FindString, _ After:=.Cells(.Cells.Count), _ LookIn:=xlValues, _ LookAt:=xlWhole, _ SearchOrder:=xlByRows, _ SearchDirection:=xlNext, _ MatchCase:=False) rng.Select...........................
I've a table of historical members status list. with this table, I could track each member status history, since the beginning they become a member.
Here is the short of table
Name Member Status Date
Adel New Member 1-Jan-14
[Code] ....
I expect to use Pivot table to show how many people which are still "New Member" and/or "Junior Member" up to now. From the table above, there should be: only one person who still as New Member. because it is only Smith, and only two people with Junior Member. they are Adel and Jhon.
I've search around and found the following useful link, viewing only the last date in a pivot table for each user also A quick way to return the latest date in a subset in Excel
How to know the last status of each user (each member in my case).
In the attached workbook, see the "P & L" tab, cells I30 to I48. The idea of the formula I have placed into these cells is to drag out the figures from column I in the "Trial Balance" tab of the workbook. A similar formula is used succesfully in the "balance sheet" tab in Column B. I don't understand why the formula doesn't work in the cells i've specified in in the " P & L" tab it seems to work for I8 and the rows immediately below it "revenue".
I have a spreadsheet with temperature data, all in one column (D), that was recorded every 10 minutes for several months. In two adjacent columns (E & F), I would like to record the daily max and min temperatures. I can manually do this with MAX and MIN formulas in column E and F respectively, MAX(D1:D144). But when I copy this formula to the next row, I get MAX(D2:D145) when what I really want is MAX(D145:D288)....and so on...
I have a column of words in Column A and I want to replace all the times that these words appear in the rest of the excel sheet with the words in Column B. If someone has already answered a similar problem link me to the thread because I can't find anything.
I have a cell with seven conditional formatting formula rules that I now want to copy to the rest of the column. I can copy/paste special/formats one cell at a time but if I try to to this with a group of cells, (or try using the format painter), it treats the formula references as absolute, even though they aren't shown as absolute in the rules manager. Am I missing something? Using 2007.
I have an excel sheet that I am importing to my network software. One of the columns lists telephone numbers, but they are as follows: aaa-bbbb
I need a way to enter an area code (the same area code) for all of the numbers in the column without manually entering them (the program I am importing this list to will not work without 9-digit telephone numbers).
I have a data range with just under 100,000 lines by about 60 columns. In one of the final columns I used the formula =IF(COUNTIF($A$2:A2,A2)=1,1,0) in order to set a flag the first time that each unique value in Column A appears. (I know about the remove duplicates function but the data was sorted in a certain order and I needed information specifically from the first row in which each unique value appears.) The formula works - it's not very quick, but it works.
The issue I'm encountering though is that now I want to remove that formula so it doesn't keep recalculating and every technique I use either takes forever or stalls Excel entirely. I've seen the same issue in two different spreadsheets where I used the same technique. Techniques I've tried: selecting and deleting the entire column, copying and pasting values over the formula, Selecting all the cells and pressing delete, copying and pasting an empty cell over them, Selecting and cutting and pasting the cells to another workbook. I've done these while disabling automatic recalculation and even turning off Data Filtering. I just can't understand why a simple delete operation should take so long, it shouldn't matter what is in the cell because all I want to do is delete it.
I have a long list of names in Column A sorted alphabetcially. I dont know how long the list is.
I wish to find the start and end row numbers of names that begin with a specific letter, for example if the letter is B I want the first row number that starts with B and the row number that ends with B. Assuming the letter I want to use is in C1, here is what I came up with:
i have a long column pair of data, each entry in its own cell:
10/5/20088:30:00 AM 10/5/20088:46:00 AM 10/5/20089:14:00 AM 10/5/200810:18:00 AM 10/5/200810:42:00 AM 11/5/20088:30:00 AM 11/5/20088:46:00 AM 11/5/20089:14:00 AM 11/5/200810:18:00 AM 11/5/200810:42:00 AM 12/5/20088:30:00 AM 12/5/20088:46:00 AM 12/5/20089:14:00 AM 12/5/200810:18:00 AM 12/5/200810:42:00 AM 13/5/20088:30:00 AM 13/5/20088:46:00 AM 13/5/20089:14:00 AM 13/5/200810:18:00 AM 13/5/200810:42:00 AM 14/5/20088:30:00 AM 14/5/20088:46:00 AM 14/5/20089:14:00 AM 14/5/200810:18:00 AM 14/5/200810:42:00 AM
how can i program a macro to 'split' this column according to date? please refer to the attached picture as an example. i know this is probably a simple question but please bear with me i'm still new to excel programming.
I have a sheet with about 20000 rows consisting of hundreds of names which occur randomly. After each name is a date of the type 29-Jan-06.The dates are in ascending order.I wish to print in a third column how long it is in days since that name appeared previously in the list,if it never appeared before this will be zero.
I have a form made that needs to copy a value from another sheet. The Form is 10 rows 5 columns and and in format for easy print. On sheet2 I have a column where each row is filled with a name.
I need to put this name into sheet1, so in the the appropriate cell I put =Sheet2!B2 and it gives me the value (name) from the other sheet.
Then I want to copy the form bellow the 1st one so that I have the same form but with the next name, which means I want =Sheet2!B3 to appear when I copy, but since my form is 10 rows when I copy it the formula copies to =Sheet2!B12 instead of B3.
I need to make close to a thousand of this forms ready for printing and I would like to avoid having to manually set the formula for the next cell.
I am trying to have a cell in sheet "Summary" count the number of cells in column DX of sheet "Analyses" that are greater than 0, provided that the value in column A of "Analyses" corresponds with the value in B8 of sheet "Summary."
(In "Analyses," there are 106 subjects, each taking up 64 rows. So, columns 1-64 correspond to Subject 1, columns 65-128 correspond to subject 2, etc. In column DX, each subject has 64 values that are either 0 or greater than 0. In "Summary," each subject has one row that summarizes the 64 trials. I want a single cell in the "Summary," sheet to reflect the number of times each subject produces a value greater than 0 in column DX of "Analyses.") I tried using this formula, but it did not work correctly:
(Summary!B8 = 1, so I am trying to calculate the number of values in DX that are greater than 0 only for subject 1.) When I press enter, this yields a value of 384. This is impossible, given that subject 1 only has 64 possibilities of yielding a value greater than 0. Subject 1 has 2 values in column DX that are greater than 0. I tried making this an array formula by pressing Shift+Ctrl+Enter, and that just gives me a #VALUE! error.
The above list represents 2 columns. The left column is 400 lines long. The right column is partially complete with 2 letter codes that represent the 6 letter codes on the right. I'm trying to convert the column in the XXYZXX format to a 2 letter column and each of those 2 letters corresponds to the 6 letter column on the left. How do I do this using any method or Vlookup? How does one convert a column of text to a corresponding column of text? I don't want to have to manually type in 2 letter codes that match up the left column. What do I do instead?
I am trying to find a formula as follows: Go down a column When you find a number put a 1 in the column to the right. Keep going down, if you find the same number skip it until you find a different number and put a 1 there. Keep going in that manner skipping any number you have already seen. I have attached a sample file of what I'm trying to achieve.
way to remove those highlight in red by any function with the following criteria.
When the period (i.e. date 1 and 2) are the same, -Keep the cheapest available (if price is 0, it means unavailable) -Keep all cheapest even when their price are the same
My spreadsheet has more than 200 columns and 5000 rows of data and blanks. When I select all columns and rows and remove the duplicates, 6 records are removed. I need to only keep and be able to identify those 6 records. I could use something like =IF(COUNTIF($A$2:A2,A2)=1,1,0) if I had only few columns that would identify dups but since there are so many columns it would be prodigious job to create one formula for each column and filter through 200.
