I would like to count number of approved projects (Yes) and denied projects (No) on monthy basis. See attached file for more info..
If F17 is "No" on the month of Sept 09, then cell "O2" should count number of "No" in the month of sept.

Is there a formula that I can use to Count how may records exist in a group.
Example. I have records labled M right, M left, N right, N left,.....U right, U left. Each letter represents a server cabinet
In a input cell, I can select M right.
In a second cell, I can select U left.
I need to have the formula calculate the number of Cabinets'
(M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U) that it takes to cross the cabinets = 9
The problem I am having is that the formula has to change based on weather they select the left side or right side of the cab.
Example.
First input cell = M right
Second input cell = U right
I need to have the formula calculate the number of cabinets
(M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T) that it takes to cross the cabinets' Note: U is not counted. = 8

I am attempting to count a number of cells in one column so long as they fall within a certain date, which is located in another cell in the same column. I'm trying to account for a number of reports that happened within a certain week.
The formula I came up with was
=COUNTA(COUNTIFS(A_DATE,">="&B2,A_DATE,"<="&D2))
But this returns 1 more then it should no matter what. Even when all cells within A_DATE are empty. it returns 1.
I know the COUNTIFS portion works to count the cells between certain dates.
Is what i'm looking to do possible or am I suffering from Excel burnout and just can't see that logicaly it makes no sense?

I have a list of ID's, many of which appear several times. Is there a formula that will give me the number of different ID's? That is:
CON001
CON100
CON050
CON001
the formula would give the answer "3" for 3 different numbers in the 4 total numbers.

I have a list of words in one column, some of which feature more than once, in random order, i.e.:
Bird
Plane
Superman
Superman
Plane
Superman
Bird
Plane
I want to have a function that counts the number of times each word appears, so in the cell next to each entry for "Superman" it would say 3, for "Bird" 2 etc. If I add another "Superman" it should then change to 4 next to each entry. Also, I will be adding new words all the time, so the function needs to be able to cope with that too.

I'm trying to Count the number of Entries on a Sheet that match an Hour. Looking through the availiable functions i found COUNTIFS, which is exactly what I want. However, when I try to compare the Hour values within the COUNTIFS arguments, there is an error.
This is the function that I figured would work here:
=COUNTIFS(HOUR(Sheet1!G:G), HOUR(E6))
which should count all entries in column G where its HOUR matches the HOUR in E6 (all are time format). I do realize that in the example above there is only one comparison made and i'm using COUNTIFS instead of COUNTIF, but i'll be adding other comparisons to it once i get this first comparison working.

I have a spreadsheet which is to record quality checks on work carried out by staff. The spreadsheet has a customer reference number in column B and a Staff reference number in column C.
I can carry out a number of checks on a member of staff on one transaction, so for instance, I could carry 3 checks on one customer number, which would result in the staff ref number being enetered 3 times (there is 1 check per row).
I need a formula to count the number of checks I carry out on each member of staff. My problem is that although 3 checks could be completed on someone, if it is on the same customer NO, it only counts as 1 check. In effect, I need a formula to count the number of staff ref numbers which have a unique customer number eneterd in the adjacent column.
All the cust numbers are unique so would I be able to use a wildcard?

I have 2 columns of data, apprx. ~25,000 rows.
Col 1 is user IDs and Col 2 is there status (pending, conditional, approved, rejected)
Col1 IDs are not unique because they can have multiple statuses associated with them in Col2. An ID can go from pending to conditional to either approved/rejected and all these are included in the raw data file. I want to remove all duplicate ID rows and keep the ID row with the last known status.
For example:

I have a column that is filled with different names. Some names appear more than once. There is one name in fact that appears four times.
I am looking for a formula, or VBA if that's necessary, that will look through the range Y2:Y50, and return a value of 4, because the person that has the most duplicates, her name appears 4 times.
If everyone's name appeared only once, except for a person whose name was in that range twice, then the formula would return a 2.

I am trying to do 2 things involving data validation. 1) Count the number of entries in a data validation dropdown list and display a result. 2) Use an If statement to pull the formatting from a cell into another cell.
An example would be if Cell A1="A", then show the drop down list associated with cell or sheet "!ryanB2". Alternatively, I would like to also display the number of entries in the drop down list.

I have data arranged in a worksheet (see attachment) that has hours of work broken down by day. What I need is a formula that will find the number of times a record occurred in Column F that is greater than or equal to 12 hours each day. So for March 1st there would be 9 times. I can do that now with no problem using "=COUNTIF(F4:F14,">=12")" However, the real thing that I need is how many days of each month were there only 1 count (of 12 hours or more). So it needs to look at the range of data that goes from 3/1/13 to 3/31/13 and find the total number of days that had 1 count (of 12 hours or more) each day and return the number of days it found.

I have a signup record that expected to grow up to row 400. On the top, there's a monthly tally for reports. Column B to count the number of boxes taken and Column C for the users picked up the boxes.
Users should be accounted as one appearence in a month, regardless re-appearance in the same month or different month.
I haven't found the generic formula to uniquely count the number of users regardless their frequency in a month.
NOTE: Timings, box numbering format and usenames are randomly generated. Any similarities with real subjects will be coincidence only.

My problem is , I have a date range 21-Feb-2013 till 07-Mar-2013 (Col C2, Col D2 respectively) which is holiday list for a person.
I am trying to pull out the number of working days for that person in the month of Feb which should exclude weekends.
To get the total no. of working days for the month of Feb, I have used the below formula.
=NETWORKDAYS(DATE(YEAR(C2),MONTH(C2),1),EOMONTH(C2,0))
This gives me a value of 20 which is correct.
Now I need to find no. of days which fall under the month of FEB from the date range 21-Feb-2013 till 07-Mar-2013 (Col C2, Col D2) which are working days. so that I can subtract that from no. of working days for that month (FEB) to get the no. of working days which the person has actually worked.

I have a large spreadsheet which holds lots of data with date ranges that i need to performs different actions to. Any way to identify the number of days, per calender month, that falls in a date range.
sample data...
Start Date
End Date
Old Value
New Value
08/03/2010
18/06/2010
16758.2
16758.1
[Code] .......
I need to break down the total number of days per month
Jan
Feb
Mar
Apr
May
Jun
Jul
Aug
Sep
Oct
Nov
Dec
24
30
31
18
[Code] ......
As you can see this also laps into a new year, which poses my next problem, ill probably just add more columns on to the end of the table for that though...
I will later apply different calculations to these cells but in short need to get a calculation for the number of days per month first.
(in short spreading the new value out accross the year then multiplying it by the days... i also need to apply a further daily volume cal to it).

I will need the formula in column E to work if there is a formula that yields a "" in column B and C.

spread sheet that I need to do for work. Unfortunately I do not have excel on my home computer to be able to attach a spread sheet
The spreadsheet has one column (A) with a list of questions. The column next to this (B) has either a red or yellow cell in each row (a red cell would be a high risk to the business if the answer to the question in that row was no, and a yellow cell indicates a moderate risk to the business in the answer to the question in the row was no).
The third column (C) is conditionally formatted so if a 'y' was placed in any of the cells they would turn green. If 'n' is placed in any of the cells the cell would change to either red or yellow (this would depend on what the colour was in column B).
I need to know a formula to count cells by colour. So the number of red, yellow and green cells in column C would be counted automatically into a totals box for each colour at the bottom of the spreadsheet. I have tried some online suggestions but couldn't get these to work for cells that had been conditionally formatted. I'm not the most experienced person with spreadsheets (this time last week I couldn't add two cells together)
The final thing I need from the spreadsheet (and I'm not even sure if this is possible) is for a total box to be colour co-ordinated based on the number of red, yellow and green cells in column C. I would need the total box to be green if all column c is green, yellow if three or less cells in column C are yellow and red if any of the cells in column C are red or there are more than 3 yellow cells in column C.

I have been using the wrong formula to count total entries in columns and only just found this error. The MAX formula in cell B4 is: =MAX($B$12:$B$36). If the all the rows are full within range F12:F36, then the MAX formula is fine to count the total within range B12:B36 (25) so I thought. But sometimes there are omissions between F12:F36. If there are 2 blank cells anywhere within F12:F36 for example, then B4 needs to show 23 respectively. In the sample WkBk B4 needs to show 8

=SUMPRODUCT(--(D3:D20>="7/1/2009")*(D3:D20<="7/31/2009"))
