I have a vba script that makes a pivot table, works well, but I need to link the pivot table filter to a 'namedrange' cell on a spreadsheet. I have found the code below on google but can't seem to get it to work, when the cell is updated the pivot does not refresh.
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim ws As Worksheet
Dim pt As PivotTable
Dim pi As PivotItem
Dim strField As String
I made drop down form controls that specify yes/no as to whether I have the documents I need for a project- when I selected yes the same row will turn grey. Each form control is set to move/resize with its cell, so it stays on top of the cell. I have the drop down form set to cell link to the cell below it in the form control settings. So it would be over cell A1 and the value of 0/1/2/ would be entered into A1. However whenever I copy the cell/row, the new form control drop down does not update its cell link by relative positioning, the new cell link is also A1 Ė thus both drop downs are linked together. I do NOT put absolute referencing $A$1 so I donít know why the new copied forms donít update and point to B1?
Why doesnít my drop down menu update its cell link position when I copy and paste the cell it is attached to? Can form controls update their cell links via relative references (that is without the $$)?
I'm sure this is an easy one but it's unfortunately beyond me. I have a update links formula in which I would like for it to update with the name of the file being in a cell. Example:
The file name is Week20.xls
Cell A1 has the value of Week20.xls using a formula (="Week" & A2 & ".xls")
Currently I have it by looking at the actual file location like this: ='C:Documents and SettingsMy DocumentsWeekly Sales6 Sales Comparisons[Week20.xls]Daily Comparisons'!$I$4
But rather then pointing directly to the file path I want it to update by the name of the file in A1. So I'm sure its something as simple as replacing [Week20.xls] with some formula but I don't know what that one is.
How can we program an auto filter a table linked to a cell. For example I have a table with 4 columns (A9:D20) and the 2nd row of the sheet is the filter item (A2, B2, C2 & D2).
Lets say column A has a list of months, column B has a list of names, column C is sales figure, column D is the customer. How can I filter let say for the total sales of Mr. X in the month of January.
I came across a code like this but I don't know how to apply it to my sheet. Of course this code is referring to a different table and links but I just need to learn how to apply this code to my sheet:
When using a Pivot Table I regularly filter on known data specific to me i.e. WBS codes.
Column ĎAí contains the WBS Codes which can be as many a 1000, however, I only need to filter out the 10 or so I require, and currently I uncheck all the records and manually scroll through the list to check the ones I require.
In order to speed things up I recorded a macro which works fine, however, If I need to check any new codes I would have to record the macro again, as I tried to edit the Macro and all it does is to un check all the other codes I don't need.
Is it possible to create a Macro that picks up a range of data that is then used to filter on. (i.e. only the records I require)
I have a set of four pivot tables on a sheet that I need to programmatically change a Report Filter (Page Field) so I can create sets of reports in an automated fashion. This will be the first step in that process. The change will involve choosing > 1 Role each time the code loops through based on Named Ranges I've defined that are associated with that Role.
My code thus far:
Code: Sub TestCode() Dim pt As PivotTable Dim pf As PivotField Dim pi As PivotItem
emm_dc_gsr is one of many Named Ranges that will contain a variable number of elements. Just using the one right now to see if I can get the code to work, I'll eventually make another Named Range/Array of all them so I can loop through each Report ("ReportPick").
I want the Report Filter to consult that Named Range for its values and apply those values to PivotField "Role" that is used as a Report Filter.
When running this code above, I get a "Role" Field that says "All" but no values (the table is completely blank), with no evidence as to why it'd be blank (all filters in every Report, Column and Row are working normally and are filled in). When I choose a value manually after the code is run, the pivot table values populate. Do I need to somehow index the Named Range in that loop? I'm just confused about this step right here:
For Each pi In pf.PivotItems If pi.Value = RolePick Then pi.Visible = True Else: pi.Value = False
When I've run other versions of the code, I've gotten an array version of it to "work" using LBound and UBound, but it never chooses the right two values even though those are verified as stored in the array via a pass-through. It chooses the first few values in the Report Filter.
Here's the corresponding code for that:
For i = LBound(myArray) To UBound(myArray) pf.PivotItems(i).Name = myArray(i, 1).Value pf.PivotItems(i).Visible = True Next
I do not care if I use an array or a Named Range. I just want something that is simple and works. Passing the values directly from the named range seems easiest to my brain, but I'm open to anything and I'm clearly missing something (probably silly).
I also have no idea why " .AutoSort xlManual, .SourceName, .EnableMultiplePageItems" is necessary though every piece of sample code I've seen seems to have some variation of it.
I have a pivot table whose data source is located on a shared network drive. Each day a new data source is uploaded and the only thing that changes is the date in the filename (ie. DataSource080813.xlsx). I am trying to find a way to set the data source to update with todays date automatically each day so that when you open the workbook it is always current days data. I have a cell (B2) with a formula in it that gives me the file location of todays file (ie. X:TeamFolderFile1DataSource080813.xlsx, where the date is derived using the TODAY() function. Is there a way to set the pivot table data source to cell B2 and have it use the text from B2 as the file location?
From what I understand there's no way to do this without using macros. I would perfer not to use macros, but I need my PivotTables to auto-refresh anyways and apparently that will require a macro, so oh well. I'm very new to macro coding so I can't seem to successful apply any of the previous threads about this to my sheet.
I just need my pivot table on sheet "Customer" to filter the customer field based on the value in cell C1. Also I need to make sure the sheet doesn't "freak out" if the value in C1 is either blank, or is a customer value which doesn't exist in the table. Preferably in this scenario it would display nothing on the pivot table, but I don't know if that's possible. I want the sheet/macro to allow an invalid filter value in C1 just so the sheet doesn't lock up until it is corrected.
I also need my workbook to auto-refresh all the pivot tables is that's easy to code in as well.
I am trying to use VBA to filter a pivot table value (Top 10 etc) based on a cell value on a seperate sheet.
1. Not sure if I reference Set pvtField = pvtTable.PivotFields("Employer_Name") or Set pvtField = pvtTable.PivotFields("Sum of Value") 2. The command filter (For Each pvtItem In pvtField.PivotItems _ pvtFields.xlTopCount _ pvtFields.Value = filterVal _ Next pvtItem) is causing difficulty.
Sub Top_Filter_1() Dim pvtTable As PivotTable Dim pvtField As PivotField
I am trying to filter a pivot by one of its pivot field through label filter by referencing a cell with defined name within same workbook. Defined name is updated by selecting a value from list of names. As a result, I would like to have the pivot display results where pivot field contains the selected name.
Sub NameFilter() ' ' NameFilter Macro ' ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable1").PivotFields("Lead Name").PivotFilters.Add _ Type:=xlCaptionContains, Value1:=[Name] End Sub
I have a pivot table with a date variable in a row. I would like to filter these to only show dates equal to, or older than a date value in a cell, when opening the workbook. The max date value is based on the today() function minus 12 months.
I am trying to update multiple pivot tables from different OLAP cubes based on the same cell value that an user defines, namely one country for which he/she wants the create the report for. The code I recorded goes like this:
VB: Sub TUR()
Sheets("Pivot").Select ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable1").PivotFields("[Geography].[Geography]"). _ ClearAllFilters ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable1").PivotFields("[Geography].[Geography]"). _ CurrentPageName = "[Geography].&[TUR]" End Sub
In this example, TUR stands for Turkey.
Basically, I have over 20 countries and at least 3 different OLAP cube-based pivot tables in my report, I can do it with 3 x 20 different macros but that seems like taking the long way.
I have a worksheet ("VillageReport") that contains several pivot tables. All tables are from the same data source and all pivot tables have "Location" as the first column field. I would like for the tables on this sheet to automatically be filtered when I select a village name from a drop down menu in a cell on this worksheet (C1). So, for example, when I select "Tarzana" in C1, the location field of all pivot tables on this sheet will show only Tarzana (all others are deselected).
a Macro for this? (I have already set up the drop down menu in C1). I have found some examples online but can't seem to adjust the code to fit my workbook. I am not very familiar with VBA.
I have created a spreadsheet that consists of a link to an Access query. Everything works fine for me. I have put the database in a location that is accessible by the people that I want to use the spreadsheet but when they open it they get the error : "The query did not run or the database did not open."
I have 2 WorkBook, Division.xls and Department.xls. The Sheet1 in the Department is linked & getting the values from Sheet1 in the Division & works fine. But if there is a change in Division workbook, its not affecting here immediately. When i close the Department.xls and open again, i can find the latest values. I thought the links to the other sheets or workbooks will be updated when i press the save button. So I used the SendKeys "^S" in the VBA. But it fails. Is there any way to mention through VBA code to update the recent values to the Department workbook from Division.
using excel 2003. trying to update file link to a new file, it takes forever. the file contains links to 50 tabs of other file. and both files are in the network drive. The formular is just refer to a cell in the other file, nothing complicated.
When I open a particular workbook by double-clicking in My Documents or using File|Open, I want to suppress the dialog box that appears requesting to update links in the workbook. I want to suppress it using code, perhaps in the workbook_open event?
The data entered in the master sheet is automatically updated in the sub worksheets through direct links created . Each sub worksheet is a branch of organization. almost 100 branches are there.
The data is entered for all the branches in the Master Sheet at different periods continuously which is to be kept as such.
For example In first day 10th, 15th branch data may be entered in master sheet first and second row, which is getting automatically updated in the respective branch worksheets. But the problem is when the data is entered for any branch( for example 6th branch) in 5th row of Master sheet, in the respective 6th branch sheet also, it is updated only in 5th row only, leaving the first four rows blank. But i want the updation in the branch sheet continuously without any blank rows.
For updation i have used the simple direct link between the cells of Master worksheet and Branch sheets.
How to get the updation in branch worksheets while entering the data in Master sheet without any blank rows.
I have one workbook with data linked to another CSV file (It's about 40000rows). When I open the workbook, "THis workbook contains one or more links that cannot be updated." message appears and asks me to open csv file if I wanna to update (although I set full path for links in cells). I wonder if there's any way to update link without opening csv file? Or Excel can not update link without openning the resource file?
I have a question of the best method to add STATUS comment column to the right of a pivot table say during a status meeting and when the pivot table is refreshed that the STATUS comment is locked with a specific row of data in the pivot table...
In an Excel sheet i have set up a link to an Access database query (select query) using the Import External Data method. The data is store sales by week, arranged in a pivot table layout (stores as rows, weeks as columns). As time goes by, the database will be updated for new weeks sales, and i would like to refresh the data and the new weeks automatically appear in the Excel sheet, in subsequent columns.
At the moment, the only way i can seem to get this to work is to open up the link in MSQuery and manually select the new weeks from the Access query. i have set the parameters to overwrite cells with new data rather than insert new data. i'm sure there is a way to do this, as it feels like it would be a common thing to want, but i can't seem to find an answer anywhere!
I have a spreadsheet of various works-in-progress items, the first three columns of which refer to relevant documents, effectively the request, the estimate and the work order, i.e. RXXX-0001, EXXX-0001 & WXXX-0001.
So the text is entered as above (without file extension as it's also our reference number), and I'd like each to be linked to their respecive .doc files, which are held in different locations, i.e. \servernamefolderRequests or Estimates or Work Orders e.g. \servernamefolderRequestsRXXX-0001.doc
There's a backlog of over 300 items (so 900 links) so I don't want to go through and manually create the links and as each day can see over 12 items being created it'd be much easier to have it done at the click of a button
Most of the solutions I've seen involve creating a new cell/button with the hyperlink in it - I just want to effectively "right click, create hyperlink" but with the cell contents inserted as the file name (adding ".doc") and with correct folder name too.
FYI the cells are adjacent to one another e.g. A1, A2 & A3 so the selection can be Offset (0,1) for the estimates and work orders.
I don't mind if it ends up being a case of running the macro on each line - some links have already been created already.
