I'm trying to record a macro that calls up the saveas dialogue and uses a filename from a cell (it's the w/c date). I can start recording the macro, open the dialogue box and copy the contents of the cell but i can't get it to paste as the filname.
What I'm trying to achieve is to allow users of a muli-sheet workbook to be able to click on a 'save' button on any sheet and have the workbook save with a filename which includes the current week commencing date. This way all the weeks changes will be in just one file and from the following monday a new file will be started the the old one left alone as an archive.

When the user goes to File, Save As, I would like the filename to be populated from the contents of cells B2 and B3, i.e. 11/18/09-23. Is this possible? Also in the same code, can I specify that I want the destination folder to be K:Sheets?

I've got a field where I enter the current month, from this I derive a file path which is stored in A4.
ie: A1 = '01/11/2011' (UK Date format)
A4 = '\myserverdirectory20111111MyFile.xls'
What I'm trying to achieve is to then have a link in cell A6 that will link to the file in A4. I can specify my cell reference as this will never change, just the file path.
So, if I changed A1 to '01/12/2011' my A4 changes to '\myserverdirectory20111211MyFile.xls'
I'm trying to set A6 to something like ="&$A$A4&"!B1 to get the value of B1 on my referenced sheet.

If I have a two files called test1.xls and test2.xls for example. Is it possible to link test1.xls to test2.xls by putting the filename in a cell?
i.e. In test2 put the filename in say A1 and in the link put the path and instead of naming the file you want to link to put in A1 instead.
I know it doesn't work if you do it that way I was just wondering if there was a way to do it.

I currently have a file that is linked to an external workbook that is referencing a certain cell from a certain tab. The below is what Column A & B look like right now. What I'm wanting to know is is there a way to have the formula in Column B automatically reference the name in Column A (which is the tab name in the external workbook) instead of having to manually change the formula when the value in Column A changes?
In other words, I want everything in the external reference formula to remain the same except have the person's name change dynamically...
Mary
='X:Anderson CorporationEmployees[Work Hours]Mary'!$F$42
Joe
='X:Anderson CorporationEmployees[Work Hours]Joe'!$F$42
Frank
='X:Anderson CorporationEmployees[Work Hours]Frank'!$F$42
Michelle
='X:Anderson CorporationEmployees[Work Hours]Michelle'!$F$42
Sam
='X:Anderson CorporationEmployees[Work Hours]Sam'!$F$42

I am trying to convert a formula that refers to another workbook as text.
E.g. in cell A1 the formula is "= '[Management Pack for January 2014.xlsx]Monthly Income Statement'!$G$23"
How do I in cell A2 show the reference "'[Management Pack for January 2014.xlsx]Monthly Income Statement'!$G$23" as Text?
The above formula changes the whole time.

In short I what to be able to check a check box and have the adjacent cell, which contains the tab name, to then reveal that tab and add a link to the tab to cell contain the tab name. I have done this with copying and pasting existing linked cells, but now I have 100 more to do and I do not want to write repetitive code to get it done.

I'm trying to create a dynamic chart title by inserting a text box in the chart title that displays the value of the last populated cell in column A. The number of rows increases over time, so I'm trying to come up with a dynamic cell reference. When I hover over the text box a tool tip appears with this text "TextBox 2" so I assume that is the name of the text box. I'm definitely open to other methods that do not use vba. It seems that none of this code can activate the text box:
Code:
Sub textbox()
Worksheets("Figure3-5").TextBoxes("TextBox 2").Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Value
End Sub
[Code]....

setting up a worksheet that forces a link to another worksheet when text is entered.
For instance, I will have several columns in the first worksheet (Sheet 1). For each entry, a tally ("X") will be added under the applicable columns. Most of the column headings are pretty straightforward. To keep things uncluttered, I want one of the columns to have an auto-link (?) feature so that when the user adds an X in this one column (we'll call it Column D), the user will then be auto-linked to another worksheet (Sheet 2) in the workbook. Sheet 2 will have room for more information regarding Column D, Sheet 1.

I am trying to ensure that m work book keeps the same name even when I email it to others.
I have been told on this forum that it is possible for a workbook to check its own name once opened?
I have two different names that this file can be called 1st is the one that is in use all the time and the 2nd is a archive version where the name changes each month.
The file name I wish to keep the same for the no archived version is Toolbox and a predetermined number I have a workings sheet called workings and in a cell i have a formula =TEXT("Toolbox Application " & Cover!E10,) this will give me the file name that i need to check for example it could be Toolbox Application 00089 or Toolbox Application 00967.
I also have a cmd that archives the workbook and saves it as Toolbox and the Month it was for Toolbox for Jan for example
I also need this to open if it is an archive
if neither of the names match i need the workbook to close and a msgbox to tell user to rename the workbook correctly.

I am building a macro and am just not figuring out how to do this. I am trying to create a new workbook, then give it a name. Simple right? Well, I have the format for the file name to be "mm-dd-yy Transmittal #.xlsx" but I can't figure out how to make the # part of that equation start as 1 but if the file already exists change it to 2, if that exists, change it to 3, and so on. Here's what I have so far:
Code:
Sub Transmittal()
Dim NewBook As Workbook
Dim MyPath As String
[Code]....
I don't think I'm allowed to do "x + 1" so that is probably where my problem is coming from.

I have two worksheets, one with detail monthly information and one with YTD information. So let's say the three numbers I want to capture in the YTD sheet are in columns B, G and I on the monthly sheet. January's data might be in B5, G5 and I5. February's data is in B12, G12 and I12 and so on.
On the YTD sheet in cell C2 I link to Monthly!B5 and in C3 I link to Monthly!B12 so cells C2 to C13 on the YTD sheet show the monthly totals from column B on the detail sheet. On the YTD sheet, cells C20 to C31 show the monthly totals from column G on the monthly sheet, so cells G5, G12, etc. And finally, cells C40 to C51 on the YTD sheet show monthly totals form column I on the monthly sheet.
In the past I've always created all these links manually. After creating the links in C2 to C13 on the YTD sheet, is there a way to use a formula in C21 that uses the link in C2 to create a link for G5?

I have an overview worksheet that features a list of dates; I want to hyperlink the dates to the another worksheet within the workbook that represents the month. I want to do this without changing the dates in the overview sheet. For example, I have 2014-05-23, 2014-05-24,2014-05-25 in my overview sheet and I have a worksheet titled May 2014. When I try to hyperlink the dates to the May worksheet it turns the dates to #### in the overview sheet. How can I stop that from happening?

I have a document (unfortunately I cannot attach it) in Excel 365 that each time I open it I get the usual prompt that it is calling an external link. As much as i'd love to hide the popup I need to find the link to solve to problem but I'm at a loss.
Simply breaking the links doesn't work for some reason, so I've tried updating the source to reflect the current file. No luck there.
I've searched the workbook for the name of the link in question, searching for all formula for name itself as well as variants of "[" and ".xlms".
I don't see anything in the name manager referencing that external file.
I don't recall if I copied from that particular document, I may have as it was a duplicate file. I tried looking over the cells I believe I copied from it but didn't see the reference.
I've installed Kutools and Bill Manville (MS MVP) FindLink Tool. Both of which says there is no external link.
I've looked at the compatibility checker which basically just says, yes there is an external link but give no insight on how to address.
I've tried a couple of macros, some of which crashed excel, some of which simply said that there was an external link but not how to find it. In my frustration I forgot which one that was but I'm about to try that approach again and look for that code.
