I have a a table linked between 2 workbooks.. when one updates, I want the other to update..
I have it working, however it will only work when both workbooks are open at the same time. I have it set to refresh on open however it won't work.
Is there away I can create a macro to control this..
I am redesigning a file with a list of too many links to simply list by hand, so I was hoping there was an Excel shortcut or some handy code that would help me generate a list of all workbooks linked to this one file.

I have one workbook (workbook "A") which links to another workbook (workbook "B") when "A" opens.
If I now update and save "B" I find I need to close "A" and re-open it to get the updated data from "B".
Is there anything which might be called "update field"

When I open workbook3 I would like it to be update without opening first workbooks 1 or 2.

I have a set up a workbook which is linked to numerous other workbooks to provide a summary of information in one location.
However, when we reach April the names of all the linked worksheets will change from 'name 09 - 10' to 'name 10 - 11'.
What is the best way of handling this transition, will I have to manually change all of the links?

I am trying to write some VBA that will select a row of cells that each have links to cells in another workbook, and then either autofill the formulas down (or pastespecial them down) for 20 rows. I have that part down using either pastespecial or autofill, but -
Since the forumulas are links to another workbook, Excel wants to resolve that link to calculate the values at the time of the pastespecial or autfill. If the sourced workbook is not open, the "browse for file" popup displays. I don't want the popup to display and would rather just get the #REF in the pasted cells and let it resolve the next time the sourced workbook is open. The end result would be like clicking "cancel" to the "browse for file popup", which I'm tired of constantly doing... I would just like to skip that popup all together and get the #REF value.
I have two pivot tables on the same worksheet, tied to different tables, but both have a "date" column. When I change the date in either tables Report Filter this code does change the page field in the other one, but the data does not refresh. My primary table is PivotTable2, once I can get this working I would hide that report filter in PivotTable1.

i have a excel file which has a formatted pivot table which displays customers by country in row A 2 down to 36 with approx 36 customers in the values field i have volumes by alarms and tickets along the column labels it shows the previous 7 days with date and then the alarms and tickets in each row. My problem is i am trying to find the code or location where i can change the only bring back 7 days data to another value. i have searched all connection properties and definitions. I know there is a value somewhere that allows you to change this number to say from 7 days to 30 days. If you click on the column labels for date it shows the dates back 3+ years but it still if i tick more than 7 days only show 7 in the table.I have image if needed

I've tried "view all pages of pivottable" but then I lose the view of the chart. I tried recording the events but the number of items in the page field changes with each data update and I'm not sure how to write code to accept this.

I'm doing this to limit the file size because the data in X comes from a text file that has millions of lines. However, it's such a pain every time I need to update the tables because simply clicking "refresh" does not update those tables that are linked to X with new data. I would have to instruct the wizard in every linked table to point to X every time. I'm trying to write a small program to re-point to X for each of those other pivot tables whenever i refresh data. However, after trying to record the steps to do this I'm still unable to run these

I'm not sure if what I am trying to accomplish is best done using the LOOKUP function. It occurred to me that a table might be the best way to go but I'm not sure exactly how to go about it. The LOOKUP function I am using contains way too many variables and thus has not yet been correct in displaying the proper info.
What I would like to do is create a workbook with a table, say column "A" is the Style/Model product, column "B" would be the pricing information, and column "C" would be the Product Identifier......
I have 16 different workbooks for different regions of my company. Each workbook has one worksheet (sheet named each region name), and all workbooks are formatted same regarding column names. Ultimately, I would like to combine all workbooks into one summary workbook where I can build a pivot table and pull out various data. I am trying to do is to combine multiple sheets from multiple workbooks if in the created parameters table it has a 'y' next to it. (So you can specify which workbooks to copy from and which worksheets to copy from) - please see example file to get a better understanding.

What I have is a parameters table which defines which workbook/worksheet to look in (please see attachment) on the 'parameters' worksheet.
I also have a 'raw data' worksheet within the same workbook where I want the combined data to go.

Theses are the workbooks where all the data is held which I want to combine, each workbook is the same, just different 'data'. - they are all in the same path too.
In the first column in the parameters table I have the available workbooks:

and next to it a 'y' or 'n' - 'y' if I want to copy data from that workbook or a 'n' if I don’t.
In the second column in the parameters table I have the available worksheets:

In the attached example I have code which loops through each file a,b,c dependent whether it has a y/n next to it but I need some code to get it to copy data from the specified sheets in the second column (if it has a Y next to it) in the parameters table to the raw data worksheet in the master workbook with the filename of where the data came from in column A (eg A.xls).

From this data, I am looking to have a script that automates the creation of a new workbook for each unique value in the Table column (i.e. tablename.xls) and saves them to my local drive. Each workbook then would have x number of worksheets named joined table 1, joined table 2, etc that relate to the name of the table in the original Table column. Finally, each worksheet will contain the related Column data for each Joined Table as mentioned above.

I have around 400 workbooks coming back to me, so what i want to do is take specific values from across many worksheets within each workbook and combine them into a large master table in a seperate workbook.
I've tried using VBA, but not being very proficient at it i've hit a brick wall with that, so i'm hoping that there is an easier way to do it than what i'm currently pursuing.
I have 25 files with certain worksheets that I need to move to 25 other files.
Worksheet 1, 2, 3 and 4 in Workbook A needs to be moved to Workbook A-2014 Worksheet 1, 2, 3 and 4 in Workbook B needs to be moved to Workbook B-2014 Worksheet 1, 2, 3 and 4 in Workbook C needs to be moved to Workbook C-2014 etc....
Is there a way to do this with a macro? Preferably I would like to do this automaticly - i.e. runing the macro from a master file that
1. Opens Workbook A copies the worksheets
2. Open Workbook A-2014 paste the sheets
3. Save and close Workbook A-2014
4. Close workbook A without saving
then doing the same for Workbook B, etc.
Basically the main workbook opens 2 files at a time performs a calculate in the main workbook and then copies and pastes information in 3 ranges. Then closes the two open workbooks and loops and performs same operations until it hits the maximum loops. My macro is as follows and I have 3 question in capital letters.

The problem I am experiencing is when the linked worksheet is open the data found and the cell automatically populated.
When the linked workbook is closed, I get nothing.
If I check links/source I get the message Error: Undefined or non-rectangular name, neither of which are true statements.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have several excel documents all linked to one unique excel document which I will call document A.
Document A is a performance spreadsheet where I have percentages, sales figures and times, for my sales team.
Each sales person has their own unique dashboard (another excel document) that I am currently trying to finalize.
Their personal dashboards have pie charts with text boxes. The text boxes within the charts link up to their relevant cells in document A.
When Document A is open and I open 1 of the sales person's dashboards. Everything looks good and works, however.
When I close document A the dashboard information changes. For example, the dashboard information could be showing 25% but when I close document A it reverts to 0.25
If I close down the dashboard and open document A back up, change it to 30% then close it. The dashboard recognizes the change BUT reads as 0.30. This is the same with them all.
The only fix I have figured out is creating another tab in Document A then duplicate of all the information required for the dashboards then save the cells as TEXT (as opposed to currency, percentage etc).
This kind of defeats the object because I have formulas set up in Document A and don't want to be doing twice the work.
I have to fill out two cells (lets say A10 and A11), with the same data taken from a list of given data. The given data is placed in one column.
I have created Combo Box where the ListFillRange is the given data area and in the LinkedCell I tried to write two cells but Excel doesn’t accept list of two cells.
For example, I tried to write in the LinkedCell A10,A11 and A10:A11 and A10;A11 but none of this syntax worked.
I can’t write A10 only in the LinkedCell and then to write a function A11=A10 in cell A11, because in some cases the content of cell A11 will be changed by another Combo Box linked to cell A11 and that Combo Box will override any function that will be written in A11.
either writing a formula or coming up with some way to filter out certain values and it's stumping me... it's probably way more simple than I'm making it I've got an attendance spreadsheet with employee names going down the first column and dates going across the top row, managers use codes to indicate sick, personal time, etc.
There is a separate spreadsheet for supervisors to track vacation (don't ask me why) and I was asked to link the data from that spreadsheet into the attendance one described.
Linking is no problem, since it's the beginning of the year I'll just do a copy & Paste special.... paste link and they can still use that 2nd vacation spreadsheet to update both places for vacation time. However.... the vacation sheet has some extra info they don't need/want to see on the attendance one (ie. Lv @ 12:30, Holiday, etc.) How can I filter that out so that the only thing that appears is the V for Vacation that is linked & other attendance codes that are entered (S for Sick, etc).

I am having issues sorting columns on a given worksheet. When a column is sorted in one tab, it is jumbling another column on a linked tab. Vlookup formulas are being used throughout the worksheet.
So, for example in the attached file;
Currently the way the file is set up is when a new project comes in, we put initials in the 'Audit Date' column of the 'To Be Audited' tab. That then pulls over to the 'Customer' tab via the 'No Edits-Audit Sheet'.
I want to be able to sort in the 'Customer' Tab the states, city or state A to Z and not have it mess up the 'To Be Audited' tab. Right now, when someone sorts one of the columns, the initials in the 'to be audited' tab jumble, and the initials are no longer with the original project.

My problem is that the cells in spreadsheet A only display the link formula in the cell and not the value of the cell in spreadsheet B which it is linked. I have several other cells in spreadsheet A that are linked to cells in spreadsheet B and they display the values correctly.

I have a workbook that has a cover sheet which contains the names of all the tabs in the workbook. I need to be able to change the names in the cover sheet and the names in the tabs to be change to whatever the corresponding cell in the cover sheet text is.
