I have a fairly large timecourse dataset and I need to find all common values within all 3 columns. Also, when I find these 'common values' is there a speedy way to retrieve data in the same row that is associated with these values, instead of going back one-by-one and copying and pasting beside the value that the function has returned?
I have two sets of 2 columns. One column in one set is identical to a column in the other set, but they are arranged in different orders. I would like arrange those two columns side by (matching their numbers) so that I can find the average of the two non-identical columns.
I am trying to compare multiple column in a worksheet to find common component in all the columns and what is unique to a particular column only. And list the results/finding in adj column. What i am trying to accomplish is something as below.
Is it possible to take the information below and make one list out of columns F, H and J based on the common information in column C? For example, group all the 18s in a list, followed by the 44s.this is excel 2007
I am currently trying to organise a student yearbook for my pupils at school. We have given out sheets to students in order for them to nominate their peers for various awards such as 'Funniest Student', 'Most Caring Student' etc.
I am trying to collate all of the data into an excel workbook. I have made two sheets within a workbook, which I have formatted how I want them to look like. I want to insert all the student's responses into one sheet, and somehow, the top 3 most occurring nominations are found and are inserted into the appropriate cells in the separate sheet.
I have attached a copy of the workbook. Due to data protection the student names and tutor groups have been taken out and replaced with the word "REMOVED", yet I will paste them back in at a later time. So feel free to have a play around to see what I am talking about! I have filled the table with some dummy data just so you can see what I mean.
I am not at all sure how I would go about picking out the top 3 most occurring names for each award, but once I can do that, I will be able to insert them into the other sheet. How to automatically produce the top 3 most occurring names.
Got something I need to do that I have never done.
I have a column on a worksheet1: NBC//1 ABC//1 ABC//2 ABC//3 ABC//4 CBS//1 CBS//2
I have a column on another worksheet2: NBC ABC CBS
In the column next to the above on worksheet2, i want to pull the numbers in for that (the numbers are contained in ONE column): NBC | 1 ABC | 1 2 3 4 CBS | 1 2
Im not sure how to go about this? In the example I attached, on sheet 2 column B, that is where I want the numbers to build to.
I need to find out common numbers between columns. Each column has multiple number entries seperated by a comma. For example:
Column A: "5592,12222" and Column B: "1,2,3,4,5592,123123" and Column C: "3, 4"
I need to find out any numbers that are found in more than 1 column. Hence, the result should be something like "3,4,5592". If no match is found then maybe can indicate by coloring the cell. My data is over 50,000 rows and 30 columns. I need to do this for each row one by one.
I've found a vb script via Google that displays the most common words in a list followed by a number.
Code: Sub HTH() Dim vArray As Variant Dim lLoop As Long Dim rCell As Range With CreateObject("Scripting.Dictionary") For Each rCell In Range("A1", Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp))
[Code] .......
At the moment this results in 1 word followed by a count.
How do I alter this so it shows 2 or 3 words, ultimately showing the most common phrases?
I've two sheets containing Incoming and Outgoing data. On the Outgoing Sheet, the Reply ref. shows the corresponding Incoming document replied for. I want to have the Reply Document ref. on the Incoming sheet corresponding to the document replied.
I have a spreadsheet of part #'s, descriptions, manufacturer names, and manufacturer part #'s. (It's a list of the inventory in my warehouse). Each row contains information for just the item in that row. Row 2 references another part in my warehouse, row 3 yet another, and so on.
Many of the parts have more than one potential manufacturer and part #, (meaning that any of those manufacturer's part #'s are basically the same tool; just different brands. At one time we may get a shipment of one, at other times we may get a shipment of another). For example, a screwdriver may be listed like this:
Part # 1234 screwdriver, mfg Snap-On, part # 456, mfg Stanley, part # 789, mfg Mac Tool, part # 439.
Then further down the list, there may be another part listed like this:
Part # 9980 wrench, mfg Stanley, part #741, mfg Snap-On, part # 852, mfg Proto, part # 369.
If you can imagine that data across the cells of a spreadsheet row, notice how the mfg name 'Snap-On' was the first mfg name on the screwdriver, but it was listed as the 2nd mfg name on the wrench.
So, here's my question: I want to be able to group all of the items made by any one manufacturer together in a new list. If all of the manufacturer names were in the same column, I could simply sort the list by that column, but since I've got thousands of rows with the mfg name I'm looking for in different columns on different rows, I thought maybe a macro could search each row for the word I'm looking for, then if found, take the whole row and copy it to a new worksheet. So the end result would be, If I wanted to see all items of which Snap-On is an acceptable supplier, I could get a list of all potential Snap-On items grouped together.
I'm sorry this is so long. I may have over-worded this and it may not be too clear. I could email an example of the spreadsheet if anyone needed more info to figure out what I'm looking for and was willing to take a look at it.
2. Once the entire list is broken down into its many parts, use the pivot table feature of excel to determine how common each of the parts is within the entire data set.
So, my questions are these:
1. Do you believe this is the best way to solve my problem? If not, what would be the preferred method? 2. If this is the best method, what function or script would I use to accomplish the first step of breaking down the lines into their individual parts?
Mike Auto Merged Post Until 24 Hrs Passes; It appears I put too many characters in the title of my post. It should read: Common Words - Decomposing Text Phrases
So I have two columns, in column a, i have a list of zip codes and in column b i have a larger list of zip codes. is it possible to find what zip codes in column a appear in column b, and then output those zips?
I'm glad founding this great forum. I have learned a lot in the last few months. Now I need to do a task and can't find online a tutorial for this. Here is what I need:
File A contains 23 columns with info for 300 products (rows). File B contains same columns for 280 out of the 300 products from file A, plus 40 new products.
I need to flag in file A the 20 products that are not in the file B, plus flag in file B the 40 products that are not in the file A.
The structure, columns, etc are the same for both files.
this is in reference to a question I asked some time ago in which I was given the following: =IF( COUNTIF(SHEET1!$A$1:$A$1200,SHEET2!A1),SHEET2!A1,"")
To summize as this is not quite working, I have two worksheets and in Column A are id#s. Worksheet 1 has100's more rows of data than Worksheet 2. I need to find the unique ids from column A in Worksheet 1 that match Unique IDs in worksheet 2.
I need to copy the row of cells from worksheet 1 where the unique id equals that u.id in worksheet 2. That row needs to be copied to Sheet 2 that has the same unique id, and after the pre-existing cells which are already present.
So for instance: if Sheet1 A100 = Sheet2 A24, then copy row A100from Sheet 1 and paste it to Row A24 of SHeet 2 start with the first empty cell- just say Sheet2 G24 as an example.
Using the formula I was given before, it finds matches, but the pasted rows are off. If the match occurs with Sheet 1 A450 and Sheet 2 A36, it will copy the value from ROW/SHeet 1 A36 instead of ROW/Sheet 1 A450
I have two lists, one is 15,000 records, the other 100 records. I want to find the common records between the two. I am using this formula currently, but is returning an incorrect result-- =INDEX($B$2:$B$11157,SMALL(IF(COUNTIF($M$2:$M$100,$B$2:$B$11157)>0,ROW($B$2:$B$11157),1000),ROW()-ROW($P$2)+1)-ROW($P$2)+1)
this is the record number in M2 BU1HAD80
it is returning BI1METBRSM as the common record. This formula is from Joseph Rubin's book F1 Excel Formulas and Functions
I have two worksheets containing four columns of data, example below. I need to match data found in any one of the four columns in worksheet B, against the data in the corresponding column of worksheet A, and if matched, return the result from the “Asset No” column of worksheet A (and return N/A or similar if none of the four columns could be matched)
Worksheet A Asset Serial Server IP No. 1234511111ABCABCBlank. 45678Blank.DEFDEF12345 7891033333Blank...45678
Worksheet B Asset Serial Server IP No. Blank.22222XYZXYZBlank. 45678Blank.Blank...12345 Blank.Blank.Blank...45678
In this example, I would expect to return the result 45678 against row 2, & 78910 against row 3, and receive a “not found” in row 1
I tried using IF & OR in an array formula, but could only get to a TRUE or FALSE result (was not able to reference the Asset Number).
I am working on a customer report template that generates our customers reports and will send them out automatically.
This issue I have now is that the system that generates the raw data for these reports only lists the Customers name in a column with an entry for each line of data, the thing is though that the system has lots of variations of the customers name, even more so if that customers has different departments.
What I need to do is from this list of customer names, I need to automatically figure out what the "common" name is or main name so to speak, and then make a variable using the correct full name, which will be used later on in the code to import correct logos, and direct the reports to the correct people.
Here is a quick example of what data we get raw from the system:
Customer Name: John Build Johns Buildings Johns Ltd Building Johns Plumbing Department Glass Doors Ltd A Department of Johns Buildings Johns Building Corporation Hole In One Golf Range
This is just an example, we have thousands of clients, so the length, number of words etc can change alot. Ideally I from a list similar to that I would get a full proper result of "Johns Buildings Ltd" for example, this would then be in a variable to be used in code from then on to reference doing certain things with the reports of Johns Buildings Ltd.
You'll notice there is one name "Hole In One Golf Range" that seems to have no relation at all, this is correct, ideally I would also like to build in some error checking into the code, so that rows like that that have nothing to do with the others would get deleted.
So how would you amazing VBA gurus go about working with data like this? I'd prefer a more general answer with explainations that just straight code, as I'm sure I will have to adapt the hell out of it for it to be useful in context.
I would like to generate a dynamic list of the top five most common text responses in a range. For simplicity sake, let's assume that the range spans cells A1 to A20, and the list is generated in cells B1 to B5. So, essentially, I am seeking five separate formulas. One to calculate the most common text element, one to calculate the second most common text element, one to calculate the third most common text element and so forth.
I am currently working with the two formulas below but finding it incredibly difficult to merge them into a working format.
Formula for finding second most common number: =MODE(IF(IF(A1:A20"",A1:A20)MODE(IF(A1:A20"",A1:A20) ),IF(A1:A20"",A1:A20),""))
Formula for finding most common text element: =INDEX(A1:A20,MODE(IF(ISTEXT(A1:A20 ),MATCH(A1:A20,A1:A20,0))))
I am trying to use the function Match into the Index function but as a Result I have nothing than N/A#, I would like to be sure that I'am using this function in a proper way
Problem description: I need to put together twelve arrows each comprised of four components; field point, front insert, shaft & fletch and nock. Therefore, I have forty-eight components in an Excel table. Each of these components may differ slightly in weight. My objective is to mix and match all of the components to create as many arrows as possible of the same exact weight.
Two questions. 1) How should I be thinking about setting up the problem? 2) Which Excel function returns the results I'm looking for?
See attached file with a smaller sample of the 1667 row table of data I am working with. What I am looking to do is make a list on another sheet of each every line with a county and have the corresponding Township and range with it. So if I have a cell and I select Audubon county, I would like a list to populate that has the 12 lines of Audubon county in column A, and the Township in column B and the Range in column C.
1. In my first column(Let's call it "input"), there will be a variety of values from 1-10 which will appear in cells as 1,7,10 or 4,5,6,7 or any other similar variation. The quantity of numbers can vary and will always be comma delimited.
2. Following the first column are 10 additional columns. For simplicity, let's say they're labelled 1-10.
3. If 2,5,6,9 is present in the first cell, I want the number 1 in the columns labelled 2,5,6 and 9. If 1,4 is present in the first cell, I want the number 1 in the columns labelled 1 and 4.
The input will only be in the first cell so I am hoping to find a way to automate the placement of 1's in the appropriate column depending on the input in the first column("input").
As a bonus, I'd like all cells not present in the first column to appear as a "0".
So I've got a drop down list in cell B73 That when I change the selection I want it to copy the cells below it (B74:B94) from one of the charts above it. Through the power of Google I found this: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/conversat...eadid=29484871, someone who had the same need as me, and edited it accordingly to my needs. It however, is not working. I started with Case 1-7 and changed them thinking they need to be the same as the list but that hasn't fixed it either. File is attached, and below quote is what the VBA coding currently says.
I need a UDF to make live easier. I have a huge excel file and I need a final function (I suppose a UDF) that lists all values from a range spanning over multiple columns and rows. I would not really like a macro, since it does not update when certain values are changed.
It's part of a bigger functionality, but I need this one, really bad, since it spans over 6000 rows as the search range, and 7000 as the search values. In short: I got to list all the unique values. They are in specific cells on worksheet 1 (A1:C5 and A25:C31) and should be listed on worksheet2 starting in field A2. As 'simple' as that. Nothing more, nothing less, just list all unique values of a certain range, which I specify. If it can not be done, by selecting the two fields separately, it's no problem at all to list all values in eg A1:C6000. Do note that some of the cells will be blank, and I don't need blanks. I only need the actual data sets. I added a sample excel file, that shows a representation of the data. I can not upload the actual file, since it's way too big (60 MB). So a sample file should give you the idea.
Three sheets: Data 1: some value lists multiple columns Data 2: some value lists, again multiple columns Desired result: the result as it should be listed. example.xls. zip
I have a different worksheet in the same workbook for every "gig" that I book. Each gig contains the name of the musicians I staffed on the gig along with their salary+expenses For taxes, I need to summarize into a new worksheet how much each musician made. Ideally i'd see not only the total per name but itemized. So if 1 guy did 3 diff gigs, I'd see each row pertaining to his name.
Lastly, I'd like to include names that do not have multiple records because it's possible there is inconsistencies with the spelling of certain names.
