Loop A Comparison And On Match Return Earliest Date?
May 25, 2012
Using online examples I am usually capable to reconstruct whatever I need. However, it's the combination of things I need to do now, which has left me banging my head on the keyboard for days now
Here's the data I am working with:
Sheet 1:
Sheet 2:
And here's what I need to get done:
From sheet 1, select first ID entry from Column A.Find matching ID in Column A of sheet 2On match, find in Column B the earliest date belonging to the concerned IDCopy that earliest date next to the corressponding ID in Column B back on sheet 1Return to step 1 and repeat for next ID entry. Do until end of list (sheet1)
So the result should look as following on sheet 1:
The major issue I am having is the combination of step 3 and 5. Because it probably means something like moving through an array that's within an array through which one is moving. And I am just missing that bit of experience that allows me to make that thinking step. I just keep falling off if you know what I mean...

What I understand is that balls are drawn in each dated lotto draw and the numbers of the balls thus drawn are entered into a spreadsheet against the actual date of the drawing - and so forth and so forth for each successive drawing.
Here is my version of the question:
If I want to look up the LAST date that a specific ball was drawn, the array formula that daddylonglegs provided works 100%, but when I replace the MAX in that formula with MIN (to get the earliest date??), it ALWAYS responds with 00/01/1900 with the cell formatted as a date, or simply 0 if it is formatted as a number.
I made sure that the ranges did not include empty cells and still it gives me that answer.
I attach the same workbook with daddylonglegs' formula in column D and my "tries" in column F.

I have a date range, containing blanks and values. I need a function to show the earliest date that contains a non-blank value. The function should be robust enough that I can sort by date and still show the correct data.
Example...(correct answer would be 10/26/2006)
Date ... Value
10/23/2006
10/24/2006
10/25/2006 0.08
10/26/2006 0.10
10/27/2006
10/28/2006
10/29/2006 0.18
10/30/2006 0.20
10/31/2006
11/01/2006
11/02/2006
11/03/2006 (0.18)
11/04/2006 (0.15)

I found a use for the “Looping Through Workbooks” code (recommended by Dave in my last thread - thanks Dave).
I have a number of small files in "C:Files" that I’d like to loop through and find a match with data from a Master (in another folder) workbook as follows.
1. Match columns ”C” of each of the files with column ”H” of the Master.
2. For each matching cells, insert data from column “I” of the Master (“ Date” field) to into col “D” for each row of the individual files (about 300 rows)
3. Save & Close the workbook and loop to the next one in that folder
All that's needed here is code to search, match & paste, to insert into Dave's "Looping Through Files" code.

How can I use an if loop to return the first number of a date.
For example, if cell A1 has the date: 7/06/2006, I want to say:
If (ActiveCell.Characters(Start:=1, Length:=1).Text = "7") Then
TodayInt = 7
End If
But this is trying to look for a string and its finding a date, so I
get an error...

I have two columns in a table; Plan and Date.
Plan Date
A 01/02/03
B 12/08/05
C 02/04/06
C 06/04/07
C 06/04/07
Now I want the third column, also a date, so that it returns the earliest date for the repeating plan type.
Plan Date New Date
A 01/02/03 01/02/03
B 12/08/05 12/08/05
C 02/04/06 02/04/06

I'm looking for help in tweaking existing code contributed by acw on ozgrid. The code he supplied compares 2 worksheets, it goes through the first sheet than highlights cells as it finds matches on sheet 2. However I also need it to find exact matches. For example if the numer it is searching for is 15 it must only find 15 not 01500, 015, 150 etc. Here is the post which contains the code and a sample workbook

I have a column of dates listed at the bottom of this post. I am looking to have a formula in a cell that gives me the earliest date from the column. I have tried Min() and Small() with no success. Is it perhaps the "AM" and "PM" that is throwing things off? A small example of the data:
11/21/2008 AM11/09/2008 AM11/09/2008 PM11/09/2008 PM11/10/2008 PM11/11/2008 AM11/11/2008 AM
and it should return 11/09/2008. Thanks in advance any and all.

We have multiple work orders per opportunity, and each work order has a date. I have a sheet of these work orders which shows the work order #, work order date, and opportunity date. What I want to do is add a column which reports the work order date if it is the earliest instance of a work order for the opportunity (said differently, the first work order for the opportunity). Is there a way to write a formula to report whether the date of the row is the earliest date for a given opportunity, all in the same table?

"First purchase date" - {=MIN(IF((Sheet2!A:A=Sheet1!A2),Sheet2!B:B))}
However, for the "Second purchase" and "Third purchase", i'm stuck and can't think on how to return the dates.

There is a speadsheet at work with a column which has a range of dates (from 18/05/2003 - date) which information gets drawn from every Friday. The information needed from the column is pretty simple but lengthy to expalin. For example...
[url]
As you can the dates are in no order...and need to stay that way. The information needed every week is shown here...
[url]
I have got the formula for the number of enteries between each date but strugling with the earliest date within the dates. I can do it manually by auto filtering the column and looking for the date closest to the earliest date but this is long.
The dates change on a weekly basis...just to throw a spanner in the works.

I need an excel function to return the earliest and latest date for a particular/unique ID.
For example: In my sample workbook, the earliest date for all the columns with ID = 1 should return 11/1/2001 and the latest date should be 12/2/2011. If all the dates for a particular ID are the same, it should just return that date. For example, for ID = 2, all dates are 5/5/2010 so the earliest and latest dates should equal 5/5/2010. The earliest and latest dates have to be for each unique ID.

I tried searching through the forums, but I don't exactly know how to word my question!
I have a workbook with two sheets: Meetings and MasterStatus
On the both sheets I have taskID for a specific task.
On the MasterStatus sheet, I want to use an array to look up the next meeting date for each taskID (Column C), referencing the Meetings sheet (Column E) to do so.
The formula I have so far doesn't work:
=MIN(
IF(
AND(
Meetings!$A$2:$A$3000>TODAY()-1,
NOT(ISBLANK(Meetings!$A$2:$A$3000)),
Meetings!$E$2:$E$3000=$C$7),
Meetings!$A$2:$A$3000,
0
)
)

I need to get dates from one file to another. They can be matched on ID.
So if the ID for a record from FileA matches the ID for a record in FileB, return the date from the date from the same row in FileA to FileB. I would just sort and copy them over, but FileA has more records than FileB. All distinct IDs share the same date.

I have used index/match before to match and extract data, but I can't seem to wrap my head around this one. It's probably best explained by looking at the attached workbook. Basically, I want formulas in 'John Doe!B' and 'Jane Doe!B' to look up the Name and Date values in column A on the 'Data' sheet, and then return the time value that is on the same row but in the 'Data!B' column.
I then want 'John Doe!C' and 'Jane Doe!C' to return the time that is two rows below the time shown in 'John Doe!B' - I've gone and manually entered and bolded the values in the workbook to show what I eventually want the formula to do. The data on the 'Data' tab will be extracted monthly into excel from tracking software my company uses, but there will always be a minimum of 3 rows of time for each date. As you can see in the example workbook, some dates will be omitted for some people, and while there will always be 3 minimum rows there will often be many more time entry rows for different dates as well. However, I'm only concerned with the 1st row and 3rd row for each date.
I was originally thinking a vlookup for 'John Doe!B' and then a hlookup for 'John Doe!C' that references the value in B might work, but I'm getting stuck on how to ensure the formula realizes the differences between the data and dates for John Doe and Jane Doe.

I have a table with the follow values (simplified version): A1:E1 have text headers B1:E1 have formulas to pull in text values. Some are blank. Some have repeat values. F1 has the value I want to look up. I need F2 to look at A2:E2 and compare to F1. It needs to pull in the corresponding A1:E1 value for the furthest to the right A2:E2 value.
Example:
Column A B C D E F
Row 1 Jan Feb Mar Apr May Imp1
Row 2 [blank] Imp1 Imp2 [blank] Imp1
F2 should return "May" as a value.

I am having issues with a min if formula, even though i enter it as an array (ctrl +shift+enter), it only returns a zero.
The formula is supposed to return the earliest date from Raw data if the name of the company matches the one from the data validation ('Company lookup'!D3).
Dates are in column D and company name in column M
I checked, the dates are all formatted as dates
=MIN(IF(RAW!$M:$M,'Company lookup'!D3,RAW!$D:$D))

i am comparing 2 inventories, they contain the same information. I have included these on 1 sheet
Column A: Part numnber Inventory 1
Column B: Stock number Inventory 1
Column C: Quantity Inventory 1
Column E: Part numnber Inventory 2
Column F: Stock number Inventory 2
Column G: Quantity Inventory 2
I need a formula that says: If column B = column F, return the difference, if any, of Coulmn C - Column G to Column H
The data is not going to be inline, so B1 is not necessarily going to = F1

I have a date in cell A1. I have an operator in cell A2. This info is then merged in to cell A3 with the following formula: =A2&TEXT(A1,"dd/mm/yyyy"). My data range is called "wc_date_of_loss". I want to use this info in a SUMPRODUCT formula (as the dates and operators can be changed by the end user). What's the correct syntax for that?
=SUMPRODUCT(--(wc_date_of_loss&A3))
=SUMPRODUCT(--(wc_date_of_loss=A3))
=SUMPRODUCT(--(wc_date_of_loss=TEXT(A2&A1,"general,dd/mm/yyyy")))

I am constructing a spreadsheet which is intended to highlight Just in time and late jobs. I have headings job number/Customer/Delivery Date/ Revised Manufacture Date. The first three are already populated by extracting data from our erp system and we enter the revised run date ourselves.
What I am looking for is a formula which shows if the revised run date entry is a day prior to the delivery date then populate the last cell with JIT and colour the cell yellow. Or if the revised run date entry matches or is beyond the delivery date, populate the last cell with LATE and colour the cell red.
