I have a pivot chart, filtering data from a pivot table, the problem I've got stuck is that every time I filter the chart the colors and weights of the chart change to default values, not what I want, I've managed to every time I click on the pvt cht tab it updates with the colors and weights I want, but when filtering I don't know how to do.
View 1 RepliesOne of the few flaws I have found using pivot tables is that when selecting from the the page field it does not filter the other page fields to match your current selection.
It does in the actual table, so why not the page fields?
For example we have a pivot table like the following

If I select England from the country, when I go to select a City I do not want to be able to select only the cities in England and not every city in the world.

I'm trying to find a macro that will report how many values are returned in a pivot table. For example, if there is 5 values returned, I want it to return the value "5" in a cell If there are 10 values returned from the pivot table, I want to return the value "10" in a cell
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to create report (just summing up) based on values in two different columns. I need a VBA to do it as the column values may vary at any time.
I have attached a sample workbook for your kind reference.
I've attached some dummy data. Basically, everyday I'm going to dump a report containing data into a 'Data Dump' tab. 'Pivot 1 - Filtered' I have set up so that it will show specific product IDs only (In this example I only want to see 1X, 2X and 9D).
However, I now have a need to see the total value of that order number in 'Pivot 2 - Autofilter'. (For Example, order number 1111 has both 1X and 8D contained within it). Now obviously the simple thing to do would be to filter every order number shown in pivot 1, and filter pivot 2 with them. However when I'm doing this for real, this can be tens/hundreds of order numbers.
The only workaround I have found is to put a column at the side using VLOOKUP and if ISERROR is false then include in pivot, then used an autofilter on that, but I'd like to keep the normal pivot if possible.
My boss wants me to design a dynamic, updatable chart in Excel 2003. I initially made a Pivot Chart based on a Pivot Table which worked perfectly, but it doesn't look professional enough when printed (or viewed) and she wants me to approach it a different way.
So, I created a graph based on the data in a Pivot Table, and used dynamic ranges as the source for the graph series so that the chart updates when the criteria fields are changed for the Pivot Table. I then added two combo boxes (ie data validation lists) to the Chart sheet, and wrote VBA code so that whenever the combo box values are changed, the Criteria fields for the Pivot Table on the 2nd sheet are updated accordingly, and this in turn causes the graph to be updated as well.
This solution also worked perfectly, but now I've been told to create the graph without macros.
Does anyone have any suggestions? The requirements/details are as follows:
1. The Pivot Table is on sheet "PIVOT", and the graph is on sheet "GRAPH"
2. The Pivot Table has two criteria - School Name and Year Level
3. On sheet "GRAPH" there are two data-validated fields, School and Year, which only allow the selection of valid Schools and Year Levels
Is there any way to make the Pivot Table update when values are changed in the fields on the CHART sheet so that the chart also updates, but without using code nor a Pivot Chart?
1) i have office 2003 on a laptop. within powerpoint, i can create a 'microsoft excel chart 11' object. to create a link to the excel data source, do i have to go through the odbc sql setup? it works, but i don't want my powerpoint to be dependent on some excel file somewhere. what are the other options to insert/make a functional pivot chart in powerpoint with the data also within powerpoint? the data as sheet option does not result in the chart being a pivot, it's just a plain chart. it has to be a proper object, not an image paste or a chart that updates links with the excel file open.
2) i have office 2007 on my other laptop. i can not find any suitable object to choose from to make a pivot chart in powerpoint. what's the best way to go about in 2007 version?
3) am i going about this the wrong way with the objects? should i be after vba code?
I have a pivot chart created that has a stacked bar on one axis and a line on a second access. I have several page items that are needed but when anyone changes the page item the chart reverts back to a single axis bar chart. I wrote a macro that fixes it but I can't figure out how to get the macro to run automatically when a page item is changed. I need to this autorun since I'm emailing the file out. I also have the chart still with the generic Chart 1 name, to make this work better should I name each tab?

However when i come to build a chart its all wrong as the dates are following a weekely format, can i adjust this to pick up only the dates that are showing on the cells in column A? also is ther ea way which teh #VALUE! doe snot show?

I have inherited a spreadsheet that I need to update soon. It takes data that has a date field and creates a pivot table by month. The person who created it completed it thru February. Now I have added data for March and April, but the pivot tables can not find this new data and I suspect it is because of the date formatting (I have done the Change Data Source under PivotTable Options to include all the new data).
The reason I suspect the date format is that she built a button to run a macro named "dateformat", which is not in the workbook. I have tired to manually format the date using the format painter from the February dates that the pibvot table recognizes, but I still get no results.
I've filtered my data - such as selecting a date range - and then run the pivot, but the pivot ignores the filter and gives me data for all the dates. my workaround is to copy and paste the filtered data to a new sheet and run the pivot off that sheet. This works fine, but maybe I can avoid this step?
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy macro pulls download in on sheet1. On sheet2 it makes a pivottable of it with horizontally displayed the suppliers and vertically the codes of products. This is of course dynamic (one month it may contain 10 suppliers + 8 products, other month 15 suppliers + 20 products). On sheet3 is the (static) lay-out of all suppliers and all products. Now, what I want is that all fields <> empty (or zero) from the pivot table are to be copied and placed in sheet3, the 'report' I have to fill in. index and match won't do the job I think.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Pivot Table (pivottable1) starting from cell A1 (lets asume that this cell is "Pick up date"). What I want to do is to filter by each "Pick up date" one by one - for example by first date 2014-05-30 than do some stuff (I have this part of code so no worries) and after that pass to next Pick up date do the same stuff pass to the third pick up date and etc. The problem is that the number of Pick up dates can be different - sometimes it could be 10 pick up dates and another time it could be 150 of pick up dates. I suppose it should be some kind of loop but I have no idea how to start this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a devil of a time trying to preserve the formatting on a pivot table that I made in Excel 2003. As near as I can tell, I've done the appropriate things --- check the preserve formatting box, uncheck autoformat --- but my formatting is not preserved when I pivot.
Adding to the mystery is the fact that some formatting is preserved but not all. I'm guessing either I'm missing something obvious or this is just an unruly, rogue pivot table that refuses to be formatted.
I have a pivot table with a group # on the left, and team members on the right. There are multiple team members in each group, and each are on a separate line in the pivot table, like this:

I need to find where "sally" is on the team (easy to do"), BUT I need to display the rest of the team members in the group with her, like this:

Using the concatanate function to put them all into one cell and then filtering for "contains" was all I could come up with, but there are 14,000 groups
How can I add missing values to the axis in a pivot chart line chart? I have a numerical X-axis with values such as 0,1,5,8,14, etc. I have another set of Y values that correspond to the X values. If this was an XY-scatter plot I'd be able to plot X vs. Y and connect the dots for "gaps" in the X values. Since it's a pivot chart I cannot use an XY-scatter plot, I can only use a line chart. The line chart doesn't give me the ability to add the "missing" values, so it gives the impression that my data is more closely packed than it is. The data source is external to my spreadsheet, so I cannot add the values before creating the pivot table/chart.

I am trying to create a Pivot Table that filters on a range of data.
I have a sheet with lots of data on it, and separate sheet where I have created my Pivot Table and my list I wish to use as the filter values.
I need to extract 630 specific Departments out of thousands and report the movements against those depts. The 630 will change as time goes on and I want to just have a range where I can update the values as and when changes occur. I initially tried using Filter on Department but realized this was going to be a very long winded process.
I have a pivot table in 2010- is there a way to filter the data using an external reference from the pivot table? I'd like to put the value in another cell and have the pivot update automatically when I type a new value in that cell.

The idea is that the pivot table always displays yesterdays data.
However, there may not be any data for that day, so when i tell the macro to filter for it, I get an error.
My question is, how could I formulate some sort of iferror statement so that if yesterdays date isnt in the filter list, then it does nothing (by default leaving the filter on last populated date)?
I have created quite a nice little macro that;
drills through a lot of key figures, updates a pivot chart and copies the chart to powerpoint.
However it crashes on one particular data set every time with this error:

I can manually change the pivot chart to the keyfigure it crashes on and thereby workaround the problem in the macro. Also it works for more than 50 other keyfigures without problems.
Using Excel 2007 I have a pivot table that counts that number of incidents based on month and year. To get the month and year I group the date field as months and years.
My problem is if I want to filter specfic months in say year 2012 it also takes out the month in 2013. I though it used to give you the option of year and date in the filter but mines are 2 seperate filters.
I'm running a pretty huge database with Part Numbers across several Suppliers which fluctuate constantly.
For example: a HEXAGONAL BOLT may have a Part Number ABC123, but depending on the size of the bolt it could be a ABC123-001 ABC123-V28 ABC123-40mm (etc)
There's a lot of data (some of it sensitive) so I don't want the users to see everything - I'm creating a front-end sheet and am looking for a way for a user to type in the Part Number "ABC123" into cell A1, then the Pivot below to auto-update (with Part Number on the 'Report Filter') to show all variations of ABC123, including ABC123-1 ABC123-2 etc - i.e. not an exact match; everything that contains the characters in cell A1.
The relevant information has been ported in and password protected on a sepearate sheet within the workbook, so it's literally a code to make the cell value affect the filter.
i have a pivot table report filter that i cannot sort a-z. i've tried sorting the source data and also right clicking on the first value then choosing display a-z - neither work.

I have tried manipulating the pivot table but I keep getting the error message: "the following system error occurred: the requested name is valid but no data of the requested type is found".
I have a simple table Attached. (A simplified version of a much larger table) The data continues on for thousands of entries and there are quite a few more columns. Names are dynamic in that names will be added and deleted over time. (There is a list of names on a different worksheet that updates as users are added.)
I wish to Consolidate the Data Under Different Titles. The data in the NAME column will Consolidate to list each name in Alphabetical order. The data under the RAP COUNTER column should count the number of YES entries per NAME under the new title ATTEMPTS. The data under the RESULT column should Count the number of KILL entries under the new title KILLS. And the Data in the TG SCORE column should average all entries per NAME under the new title TOTAL SCORE. I tried to do this with a pivot table to no avail. I could write some programming to accomplish this, but I am am amateur, and I also worry about time required to run a macro for thousands of lines.

I have created a pivot table and I'm using report filters for both Client and Asset (obviously there are a lot more data points). When I filter on Client 1 I would expect to only see Port 1 - Port 7 available in the Asset filter however, I see every asset in the data set. I need to pick and choose using the Select Multiple Items check box without having to scroll through every single asset. Is there a way to easily do this?
