I know I can use the validation but people can just copy a cell and paste it over.
The numbers will be both negative and positive just need to catch characters.
So:
2500 is okay
-15 is okay
is not okay.
I am trying to make validation so a textbox in a form can only accept only letters. At the moment however i can only seem to stop it entering numbers on its own, i cant stop it from accepting letters and numbers. here is the code so far. (please try keep the code simple as possible i have seen more diffuclt solutions but they are to difficult)
Private Sub LetterVal()
'Validation to ensure only Letters may be entered into the text box.
If IsNumeric(Textbox1) Then
Textbox1.BackColor = &HFF&
MsgBox ("Only letters aloud in field")
Else
Textbox1.BackColor = &H80000005
End If
End Sub
I currently have cell B3 in a worksheet - able to except 2 data entries.
The user should enter either OPQ or BOT followed by numbers. How do i ensure that they only enter OPQ (O - Letter Not Number) followed by numbers, or BOT (O - Letter Not Number) followed by numbers.
i.e. OPQ87654321 NOT 0PQ87654321 or BOT12345678 NOT B0T12345678. The information has to be entered manually and not via drop down list as each number is unique to the OPQ or BOT.
I want to create data validation so that the first 2 digits=PS and the next 4 digits will be numbers. I have tried a few things but I cant get anything to work?
View 8 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to force a cell entry (using Data Validation) to either a whole number or a value? In other words, I would like the data in a cell to be either a whole number between 10,000 and 20,000 or "N/A". I can do it with VBA, but Data Validation (if it's possible) would be better.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a solution for my problem: I work for a bus company, I need a spreadsheet where I will record the bus numbers into a sheet but I only want to be able to add the number once ie. error if duplicate bus entered. Also the numbers will change from time to time, old buses sold when new ones arrive. I have the following code that someone helped me with wich works fine provided you don't have to change the numbers.
=And(Or(And(E42>=121,E42<=125),And(E42>=149,E42<=156),And(E42>=320,E42<=363),And(E42>=700,E42<=799),And(E42>=800,E42<=991)), COUNTIF($B$3:$E$46,E42)<2)
I want to use Data Validation on a cell (H1) to only allow the value entered to be values between values in E1 and D1. E1 is a negative number.I tried naming E1 & D1 as a range (valid) and then did custom validation formula is =valid, but that allows me to put in anything.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow can I require 2 numbers before a decimal in data validation? I have a formula to require at least to characters after.
I'd like to require the user to enter at least ##.##
to validate a cell for the following customer format, but cant get it to work:
XX00000
Where XX is any combination of letters (upper or lowercase) and
00000 is a combination of any 5 numbers.
It must always be in this format, with this number of digits in total (2 letters followed by 5 numbers)
I have a userform capturing Credit Card Numbers for Visa, Master, Amex and Diners as part of a payment tracking system and would like to check that the entered Card Number is valid before processing the payment through a third-party website to minimize to number of error / invalid card messages.
I suspect there is some kind of checksum built into the cardnr. Any tips on how to check for the validity would be appreciated, including links to relevant sites.
this question is related to an earlier question of mine: [url]
I have a user form to get some input from the user and want to make sure that in some textboxes user should be able enter only text i.e A to Z or a-z no numbers or special charecters.
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
Dim RegEx As Object
Dim Strng As String
Strng = CStr(Me.TextBox1.Value)
Set RegEx = CreateObject("vbscript.regexp")
With RegEx
.Pattern = "^[A-Z]{2}/d+/d{2}$"
If Not .test(Strng) Then MsgBox "Invalid Format: TextBox1"
End With
Set RegEx = Nothing

I am looking for a way to define a 'Data Validated' Cell to hold a List of Dynamic Sequential Numbers - from 1 to the Value of cell A4. For example:
If cell A4 has a value of 5 the 'Data Validated' List will be 1,2,3,4,5
I have tried to 'name' the Array-Formula {=ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&A4))} and put the 'name' as the List source but without success.
I have created a template using data validations. I have a drop down in column O, which you can choose from Credit or Charge. In column V, I want:
- If selected Credit in column O, only negative numbers allowed in column V
- If selected Charge in column O, only positive numbers allowed in column V
I am using Excel 07 with Vista, and creating a spreadsheet in which users will be inputting a record into every row.
There is a row that requires a number to be entered, where some of the numbers will begin with 0 or 00 or even 0000. I want to make sure no-one incorrectly enters a letter, however with data validation set to whole numbers, it formats the cell to change an entry of "005667" into just "5667". There is no set length for the field.
The only way to have "005667" is the change the column to text, but then obviously that defeats the whole purpose!
I know ASAP has a feature to do this but I need the code in a bigger macro that I wrote.
EX: -1 needs to be 1
I have been looking through the forums and found the below code, but I have both text and numbers in the same range. I have attached an example of what I need to have converted.
Book1.xlsx
I'm looking for the VBA command for this function. I tried just recording a macro in where I perform the task but it didn't record anything. Tried it several times even.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up a data validation to ensure that when a user enters a number in column A that matches a previously entered number in column A, the user is only allowed to enter the same date for the number it matches in column B.
For example, if:
Row 3 column A = 1320
and
Row 3 column B = 16-Dec-07
and
Row 15 column A = 1320
then:
Row 15 column B must be 16-Dec-07
write a VBA macro that will check selected cells to see if their values conform to the corrosponding data validation rule?
I understand that data validation only checks the data upon entry. how to check all the cells or a selection of cells in a worksheet after the fact. I done a lot of editing and made changes to some of my validation lists and now want to know which cells no longer conform.
If the user clicks the button to do the paste special macro twice - the second time they get an error (I am assuming that the clipboard has been wiped clean and they need to go back and copy the data again). The specific error message is: "Run-time error '1004': PasteSpecial method of Range class failed".
What I would like to do is add code to the pastespecial macro that looks to see if there is something to paste - if not, I want to give my own message and not the default one.
I have a workbook that contains a worksheet with commission data with a validation list of about 50 items. Each of these items represents a sales peron within my organization. Every month I select each of these items or sales people from the validation list (using the drop down box), which changes the commission data for each rep on the tab, then convert this to pdf to create and send each of these reps a commission statement.
I want to do now is link the code below to a drop-down menu I have created on one of the sheets in the workbook. I created this list using data validation and declared this drop-down menu as MIndex and the values to choice from are 0,1,2.
Does anyone know how I can link this drop-down menu to the macro. So basically once the drop-down menu is activated run this macro.
Sub SumMonthlyVol()
Dim wSheet As Worksheet
For Each wSheet In Worksheets
Select Case UCase(Left(wSheet. Name, 2))
Case "AJ", "CJ", "PJ"
If (MIndex = 0) Then
wSheet.Range("L52") = "= SUM(R33C4:R50C12)"
Else
If (MIndex = 1) Then
wSheet.Range("L52") = "=SUM(R34C4:R50C12)" ......................
I have seen this problem mentioned on other threads, but, didn't see the resolution. I got the below code from contextures.com's sample spreadsheet DataValComboBoxSheet.xls. When I press the tab or enter key, Excel crashes. This macro does exactly what I need which is to allow the user to autocomplete from a long list of validation values that come from another spreadsheet. The code causing the crash is the Select Case KeyCode statement when the keycode is 9 or 13. I am running Excel 2002.
Option Explicit
Private Sub TempCombo_KeyDown(ByVal _
KeyCode As MSForms.ReturnInteger, _
ByVal Shift As Integer)
'Hide combo box and move to next cell on Enter and Tab
Select Case KeyCode
Case 9
ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).Activate
Case 13
ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Activate
Case Else
'do nothing
End Select ....................................
Template is created where the users copy/paste the data from other file. Data validation has been performed with the following steps:
1. Macro inserts the vlookup formula into column A, which isused for validating data that is entered by user from column B to E.
2. If the data is incorrect the N/A will be displayed in column A and invalid data will behighlighted in red color in column B.
3. This validation goes through the loop and after the loop is finished the pop message will be displayed and macro should stop so the user can correct the data.
4. After the user correct the data, the macro needs to run again to make sure there is no further errors. If there are no errors, thehighlighted cells should be cleared out of color and pop.
Here is the code that runs by command button:
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
Call FindNA
End Sub
Sub FindNA()
Dim ResultRange As Range
Dim ResultCell As Range
Dim iRow As Integer
[Code] ......
I have a command button that runs a save macro to which I added cell validation the message box comes up and what I want it to do is go to the cell that is blank
View 2 Replies View Relatedlately I have promised to program a little macro which looked easy for me to do but on which I have now spend a considerable amount of time without finding the problem why it is not running. I am working under Windows XP with Excel 2010, here is what i was trying to do:
In a worksheet there are two columns G and H. In both columns it shall be possible to select a number of possible entries from a list. For column G this is done via data validation, no problem. Now, the choices which are there in column H shall depend on the entries made in the appropriate row of column G. Column G thus functions as an overarching category. If I choose "Tree" in G, H would give me branches, leaves, apples. If I choose "car" the choices would be wheel, engine, gasoline etc. This shall be done by a Macro:
Code:
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim cat1 As Range
Dim cat2 As Range
Dim x As Integer
Set cat1 = Range("G:G") 'Task Group
Set cat2 = Range("H:H") 'Task Category
[code].....
When running, it gives me Run time error 1004: Method "Range" of object '_Worksheet' failed. Debug highlights the row
Code:
With Range(Cells(ActiveCell.Row, 8))
I have a normal data validation box on excel, but I want to be able to navigate my way through it using a macro. I can select & opent the drop down list with the following
SendKeys "%{DOWN}"
but then an action like
SendKeys "{UP}"
Does not navigate itself up the menu as a normal keystoke would. Any ideas on how to solve this? Basically, I want to select a cell, open the drop down menu, select the first choice in it (so thinking SendKeys "{HOME}{ENTER}" ) all using a macro.
I'm looking for a method, vba macro or Excel code, to preform the following task:
In the C column the user chooses one of several options from a menu, let's call these options 1 - 10 (this part is already done). Depending on the choise, different things are supposed to happen:
For 1-9, the formulas for cell A - Q on the current row should be copied to the next row (but with +1 in row number in formulas of course).
For 10, 3 blank rows should be created (well they already are blank..), on the forth row down, A3 - Q3 should be copied exactly. On the fifth row, the same formulas thing that was created for choise 1-9 should be created.
Since the real xls-file is too big already and it contains some sensitive information, I can't attach it here, but I made a small and similar xls-file, that better explain what I want to do.
