Match Formula With Variable Text Parameter
Mar 11, 2014
I'm currently trying to get a Index Match function that finds a cell with given text in it, then returns a value that corresponds to a cell with that same text plus the word 'Sum'. I cannot use the offset function because the Sum cell appears at the end of an expense breakdown, and each category has different numbers of expense items.
Is there an easy way to do this?

I though I could do this with a nested IF statement but it is too cunfusing for me. What I am trying to accomplish is this:
Experiment
Is Steward
EU ID
Location
Data Quality
GE
Entry Order
[Code] ........
I want to have a screen pop-up asking me what my limit < would be for column "ESTCNT" so if I put in 25 or any other number that it would highlight all the rows that are less than 25, then look at the row above and below and if it matches the same number (that is in the cell "Range" of the highlighted column) in column "Range" then copy that row to a new sheet. Meaning all tha rows that match the "Range" would be in the same new sheet.
The rows might be different lengths and that there will not always be a number in cell "ESTCNT". Column headers will always be the same but might not be in the same column each time. And if it is not to hard once it is completed to find column "SPPLOT" in the new sheet created and asking what I want to autofil the column with.

I am trying to do the following: I want to replace the values in A1:A3 with "0" and clear the contents of B1:B3 for all worksheets that contain "ILA" in the worksheet name. Is there a simple way to do this or another thread that already answers this question? I tried to search on the internet but found nothing useful. Here is a sample file (NOTE: there are no macros in this workbook even though it is saved as an .xlsm).

I've been given a formula to use (embedded in an add-in that is password-protected). One of the parameters REQUIRES quotes.
The formula goes like this: =MYFORMULA(1,2,3,"ABC")
If I put ABC in a cell (say C5) and use the formula =MYFORMULA(1,2,3,INDIRECT(C5)), the formula doesn't work.
If I put "ABC" in cell C5, the indirect function still work make the function work.
Even if I have ABC in cell C5 and use =MYFORMULA(1,2,3,""""&C5&"""") or =MYFORMULA(1,2,3,""""&INDIRECT(C5)&""""), these won't work.
I wish I could just change the UDF behind this, but that isn't possible.

I'm working on a formula to make it enable a part of the text then return the best possible match. Below is my formula
=MATCH("*"&$A11&"*",'[Customer Master List - 05.30.xlsx]Export Worksheet'!$B$82:$B$1298,0)
However, it works with some text but won't work for some.
For example, I have this text CARE-A-LOT, INC and in the master sheet there is a similar text like this CARE-A-LOT. I want it to return CARE-A-LOT as this the best match possible.

with Match function not matching text in this formula?
Using the below formula cell $L$11 (it contains "abc") will not match the respective cell contents in array E:E even though "abc" is in a cell within column E.
=IFERROR(INDEX('Paste In Data File'!G:G,MATCH($L$11,IF('Paste In Data File'!C:C=B14,'Paste In Data File'!E:E),0)),"")
The cells within column E are populated using a formula such as =IF(MID(A6,3,1)="a",MID(A6,435,9),"")
Column A is the data source and contains a text string.
After much trial and error, it seems the cause preventing the match is; $L$11 contains typed in text "abc" and the above formula for column E is pulling in 9 characters, not just 3.
It seems that if I can modify the entry for the array E:E to just look at the left 3 characters only, it may work.Problem is I do not know how to modify E:E accordingly.

I need a formula to run down a column DCapture.JPG (starting at 142), when it finds the last entered value it needs to display the corresponding value from column J into cell AA21.
If you see the attached photo, the last entered data in column D would be 1, AA21 would be saying -30 (J205)

See attached file, "Rate Sample Index-Match Formula".
I need a formula to return the value at the cross section of two (2) lookup values that match. This formula will be input into column D under, "RATE" on the 1st tab, "TEST FILE".
In the 1st tab, "TEST FILE" there are a series of columns as follows;
A = Service
B = From
C = To
D = Rate
In the 2nd tab, "RATES" there is a series of rates with drivers From (green) & To (blue)
The formula needs to do the following;
1. Lookup the "From" value in column B on tab, "TEST FILE" and match to column B2:B59 on tab, "RATES" both highlighted in green
2. Then Lookup the "To" value in column C on tab, "TEST FILE" and match to row C1:BH1 on tab, "RATES" both highlighted in blue
3. Then return the value at the cross section of the match "From" (point 1 above) & "To" (point 2 above) in range C2:BH59
For Example;
The rate From SYD To CBR = 0.33. I have highlighted this in yellow on both tabs to show where the formula needs to lookup the data to return the answer.
Additionally, if we were to add service as an additional lookup match how would this work?

John Sedgwy - R
In sheet 2, I have the following names
Col A Col B
Peter Walker
John Sedgwicky
When I did an array match -> ={MATCH(1,(TRIM($a2)=Sheet2!$A$1:$A$2)*(left(b2,5)&"*"=Sheet2!$b$1:$b$2),0)}
gave me an error but when I did an individual match to both John and Sedgw, it works.

I am trying to identify matches for company names I have in columns A and H.
I originally used =IF( $A3<>$H3,"No Match","Match")
The issue is that not all of the company names in column A contain "INC","LLC", "CORP", etc. So, I am not capturing all of the matches.
Example:
Column A: American Eagle Outfitters
Column H: American Eagle Outfitters INC
Is it possible to write a formula with the logic that IF A3 and H3 both contain "American Eagle Outfitter" then "Match" or "No Match"?

I am having trouble using the MATCH function in my code. I am looking for a match in one worksheet from a cell in another. I have defined these cells and ranges as variables. However, it doesn't seem to be working with my application. I would like to find the row of the matching cell and use the output of the MATCH function to determine the next step in my code with an IF function. Here is my code. (NOTE: this is my edited code, I removed irrelevant pieces. The major problem is the MATCH function.)

In my excel sheet, I have date values stored in cells from D7 ti IV7. in cells C8 to C100, I have a data validation which selects the values from cells D7 to IV7. When user selects a particular date in coumns C8 from the list, using my code, I am trying to search for the value stored in cell C8 within the range D7:IV7 using function Application.Match
While running the code by clicking on "Distribute Budgeted Efforts" command button, I am getting an error "Type Mismatch" and error is coming from code line number 27 which is "lInitial = Application.Match(lInitialdate, Range("D7:IV7"), 0) - 1"
My code is as below
Private Sub cmdEffortDistribute_Click()
Dim lCount As Single
Dim lStartDate As Date
Dim lCounter As Single
Dim lBudget As Single
Dim lInitial As String
Dim lInitialdate As String
Dim lInitialWeek As String

I'm trying to perform an index / match lookup that can have a dynamic indexed column.
Sheet1 has the master table and sheet2 is where I'm putting the formula. The table on sheet1 has a RecordID field that uniquely identifies each record and that must be typed into Sheet2 [RecordID] column and then matched to sheet one to identify the record
Code:
MATCH([RecordID],Table1[RecordID],0)
The column headers on Sheet1 are used as data validation for the column [Field] on sheet2. The value of the Field column on sheet two should determine the the column on sheet1 to index.
This is what I have so far:
Code:
=INDEX(MATCH([Field],Sheet1!A:AQ),MATCH([RecordID],Table1[RecordID],0))

I would imagine that the title of this thread made little sense, so let me try to explain:
Sheet A has columns A-C populated with data. Column D needs to search Sheet B columns A-C for a match. (ie, see if the data on sheet A is also on sheet B) if this is true, then it needs to return the value of the LAST column of the matched row in Sheet B.
So, if Sheet A R1 A-C is 1,2,3. Sheet A R1 D needs to search Sheet B for 1,2,3. and when it finds it, (for example on row 9) return the value of the last column of Sheet B row 9. The issue is, the last value could be in column R or S or AA, there is just no way of knowing.

I have a monthly report. Worksheets for each month, each row is a type of fruit (column A), and the number sold (column B). A new worksheet is added each month with the information. I also have a Summary worksheet - running total of all months: Type of Fruit (column A), Number sold (column B), and Total of all fruits - number sold. I would like a formula for the Summary worksheet - to match that fruit (column A) to any of the other worksheets - matching the fruit (column A), and bring back the number sold (column B). (note some apples are Fuji and some are Honey crisp - those would be totaled together)
ex:
Tab = Jan 14

My data is set out in columns, where alternate columns provide day numbers for given years (we can call these type 1 columns), with adjacent columns containing values which correspond to those type 1 column day numbers (we can call these type 2 columns). There are about a hundred columns in total (50 of each type). I would like to get excel to return the three largest numbers within each type 2 column, but I want to exclude data within the type 2 column above the point which is adjacent to a specific (varying) day number in the type 1 column. The location of this point varies for all the type 1 columns, according to a third row of numbers (the look up start point), which are currently listed below the dataset in every type 1 column. So, for the type 1 column "year 1", I would want Excel to ignore the values 0 and 1, which are listed next to day numbers 78 and 79, and begin looking for the three largest values down the column starting from the value which is adjacent to 81 (which is a 2). In type 1 column "year 2", excel would start looking for the largest values from the cell adjacent to 78, so it would ignore the 18 at the top of the column,and would return 2 and 12. And so on.

refer to the attached workbook for reference. I am looking for a function in Sheet1, Column E that will search for the value of Sheet1, Column A within Sheet2, Column A. When a match is found, the function should look across Sheet2, Columns B - V for values of 1. When such values are found, the function should return the associated value from Sheet2, Row 2. There may be multiple values of 1, and as such, the function should separate values with a comma.

I am trying to see if part of a text string matches part of another text string. Example: In C1:C100, I have names. In C101:C300, I have names that are similar to those in C1:C100, but may include a "The" in front or have "Inc" in the back, or both. Is there a way for me to check if each of the names in C101:C300 match one of those in C1:C100 and then get the matching value from C1:C100?

My spreadsheet is populated by data coming from MS Query, i'm entering a parameter value to display the desired data in my spreadsheet. My problem is, i have to close and open the file to have the parameter prompt so in that case i can enter the parameter value.
Is there anyway to call the parameter prompt so i will not open and close the file, its really time consuming...
If possible, i just want a command button that calls the parameter prompt.
