I have a formula to calculate an average value for a reference range:
= SUMIF(DATA!B32:B61,"<># div/0")/MAX(1,COUNTIF(DATA!B32:B61,))
Because these cells are references the blanks are being treated as zeros so I am getting an inaccurate average value.
Is there a way to make it so it will treat blanks as blanks? I need the zeros to be zeros.
how do I perform calculations on the last x non-blank instances in a data range?
for example, let's say I have a spreadsheet of 5 baseball players' batting averages (rows are team game number played, columns are at bats and hits for each player). I want to see how each player has performed in their last 10 games played, but some players have not played in every game. If I just use the sum function for the last 10 cells, I won't get the correct information for any player that has missed one or more of the last 10 games.
I want to omit null values from monthly averages I'm calculating for some in consistent data. Currently, the macro I wrote reads the empty cells and I believe is viewing them as zeros. When taking the monthly averages, in some cases on parameter 'X' might be sampled for a particular date at a location, but another parameter 'Y' isn't sampled for whatever reason on that particular date at the location. Therefore, there is no value in the cell for parameter 'Y' for that particular date (the value is null). When the macro runs, it sees the blank cell for the particular missing date, but I believe it still views that as a 0 value which it includes in the average, instead of overlooking that cell b/c it is an unknown. So, for example, it might thinks there are actually six actual sampling results instead of five, and calculates the average based on six being the total instead of five which seems to misrepresent the average. (e.g., it's currently viewing 2, 2, Null, 2, 2, 2 as n=6 instead of n=5)
If possible, I'd like to keep the structure of the code as below with only the minimal modifications to address this issue.
I do have Options-->Window Options-->Zero Values de-selected....
I'm using an arrays AVERAGE(IF( to average several scores from one spreadsheet to another. However, if I have 30 employees, 1 may have no score, and I don't want that no score to factor into the average, but with the above array, it does.
Specifically, I get the wrong average for Score A, but the right one for Overal Score. See attached sample.
I want to figure a class average for a test, but I have students that have moved. My Excel is automatically counting them as a zero. How can I program/tell Excel to skip any blanks rather than count them in the average?

I need to account for zeros in the coarse and I want this excel sheet to track the current average all year long . So I do not need to include my blanks in the average as I go. Also , how do I formulate my average accum to show this formula - Test scores, four of them count as 80% of the total grade. So each test is worth 20% / Lab 10% of total grade and homework is additional 10%. I downloaded the templete from MSN and have tweaked it to my liking except for the coding above. Please advise. I am a below par on Excel. My attachemtn is below of my templete. One note. the templete gave me the room to include 13 ros of homework - but I will not necessarily use all of them... However, we also need a way to omit blank or null cells if the workers did not do a particular project. View 8 Replies View RelatedI have run into a problem with the array formula. After inserting formula with the CTRL+SHFT+Enter it is giving me the same sum to the 3 cells that I had array formulas in but trying to capture different data from what was in the capturing column. Example:
If row F consists of text types: Move-in, Mid Year, and Year End as potential options,and row G is the score for that text type(cells will consist percentages), give me the average of all the cells in row G that are specific to Move-In only, but don't include the blanks in the average.

Basically what I want to achieve is the average % of Dec 11 (D11:D22 on the sheet im working on) scores but excluding any blank fields (not excluding potential scores of 0%)
I am trying to get the average of the last 6 data entries not including blanks or zeroes.
Currently I have:

Which works fine when I've got 6 or more values in the row.
But if there are less that 6 values in the row it returns with #NUM!. Is there a way to add an IF ERROR THEN make = to AVERAGE of C2:CP2?
I am looking for a formula for the following:
If there is nothing is U6:W6 return blank
Otherwise sum the contents of Bf6:BH6 and divide by the number of cells that are not empty in the range U6:W6 (to get an average of only the values in that range not including blanks).
I have a column of numbers that are derived with a formula. I need to Average only the ones that either have a Positive or Negative number, ignoring blanks or zero.

I have then created a summary sheet, I want to count the values in column B (Name) for each Id (Column A) but I want to exclude the blanks. So my Summary page will look like this with the following results:

I am currently setting up a project timeline, and at each stage i need the cell to change color depending on input. so for instance stage one happen -50 days. i work the date out need for completing and then the actual date is then put in the cell below which i want to go either
Green because it was done early or on time Amber if it has been done but was late Red if has not been done and the current date is now past the date of completion Stay Blank if it is Blank and their is still time to do it
for the green i am using a A2 <=A1
Amber i am using A2 > A1
for the red i'm using =And(A2<Today(),A1="")
the red one conditioning does not seem to be working and if their is nothing in the cell an its within the time its going green !
I have a simple sheet that has columns I-K. My issue is that in column K I am dividing J/I. If both J and I cells have a "0" then I get the #DIV0 error. If both J and I cells are blank then I get the #VALUE! error. I need it so that if the cells in J and I have a zero in them then it places a 0 in K. But if both J and I are blank then it puts something else that I can have Conditional formatting change the font color so column K looks blank. I think the IF formulas I am try to use recognize blank cells as zeros as well.

I want to get in A4 say, the average of the numbers for all sundays at cambridge.

As you can see from my sheet example, there are three columns of numbers side by side. They represent fiscal year 06, fiscal year 05, and fiscal year 04. The numbers are recorded each month July through June. Each month, a new number is added for the current year, 06.
At the bottom there are cells that show the Average per month for each month. I need an offset formula, or one that adjusts when the new number is added for the month for the current year. For the previous year I need an average that looks at the current year and then the previous year would have a range average to match the current year’s average criteria and return the average for the previous year.
For example, if the current year is updated through March, and it returns an average for March 06 I need the second formula to return an average for March 05 in the next column, and March 04 in the third. As numbers are added each month, I need both formulas to change the average to expand to include the numbers

I want to get average values when at least 2 conditions have certain values.
I tried =SUM(IF(AND(MapKpa:MapKpa=40),(RPM:RPM=1000),grmcyc:grmcyc))
and answer given is really total of all 30,000 row values for grmcyc and not
when mapkpa values = 40 and RPM = 1000.
Also best would be if the conditions allow lets say when Mapkpa is between
40 and 45 and RPMs between 1000 and 1500 to have a window of grmcyc average
I used Sum but really want an average of grmcyc when Mapkpa and RPM meet the
conditions so I can build a results table of what the grmcyc average value
was from 20 to 105 KPA in 5 KPA windows along with smaller RPM ranges.

I am writing this application wants me to calculate running averages and Std Dev. I will copy a row of values into a spreadsheet. The next row will be a new average of each column. So far so good. But the next time I calculate the new average of the column, I do not want to count the row that represents the last average I measured. SO, I'd like to format the rows that are average values (i.e. bold) and then when I calculate the next average, exclude any value whose font is bold. How do I perform average for a range and be able to exclude outliers. For example I am taking 100 measurements, some are not measureable and recorded as 9999.9. How do I average 100 values, but exclude all the 9999.9?

I need to replace the error message in the cell to be blank. Until there is data to be averaged. I have tried to use ISERROR but struggling to get it to work with my multiple criteria.

What I need is the average across the 2 data columns (data_1 and data_2) for category Yes and category No. I know I can use averageif to get the conditional average of 1 column, but that doesn't work with 2.
I have three columns in my worksheet.
Column 1 reports the name of three people, John , George and Jim, column 2 the year for which they are paid (e.g. 2002, 2003 etc) and column 3 the amount of money they received each year (e.g. John received 18$ in 2005, $15 in 2004 and 11$ in 2003). I need a function to give me the average salary earned by each of these people in the period 2003-2004 e.g. John earned $15 in 2004 and $11 in 2003, so the average value is 13. Is there a function to do it automatically (so taking the conditional average---average for john given that year is 2004 or 2005)?
I want this average to be in column 5 (column 4 will contain the names john, george and jim)
The attachment is only a small portion of the data I need to analyse, but is representative of the full set of data. What I am trying to do is calculate a weighted average of each of the chemicals shown by location and machine usage and also still be able to use the filter or sort funtions. I have created a sample calculation in cell F9 to further explain this calculation.
I would like to be able to use the A-Z sorting icon in any of the columns, while still computing the weighted average of the respected chemicals. As it is now, the referenced cells just remain as the 6-7 cells above the calculation instead of the 6-7 cells that apply to the specific chemical at the location and machine (in this example - caustic at location1 on mch-03). For example, if I try to sort in column F, I'd still like to see my example calculation to reference the same values as it is now, calculating the same resulting 60.719.

I'm trying to calculate a monthly average from a set of daily values in a separate sheet. I managed to use some nifty code to return the address of the first value in the month, and the address of the last value in the month.
I tried to create an AVERAGE formula to compute the average between these two looked up address and I'm getting various errors, including #DIV/0 which doesn't make sense to me. Here is the summary of the code I'm using, in generic terms.
Formula to lookup first address in month:
=ADDRESS(MATCH(A57,'Sheet2'!$A$1:$A$2000,0),12,1,TRUE,"Sheet2")
Formula to lookup last address in month:

Average formula (not working):

A57 is the cell in Sheet1 containing the relevant month, for example in this case it is 4/1/2008 (displayed as Apr-2008). Column A in Sheet2 contains the daily dates. Column 12 in Sheet2 contains the relevant data that I want to average.
I've tested the two address lookup formulas and they are working fine. I assume I'm missing some sort of small conversion such that the average formula is not reading the ADDRESS formulas as addresses.
