How to open files based criteria in cells value?
[Code] .....
I need to open an excel file based on a date mentioned in the file name, but minus 1 day. The file name is composed with Statistics_date_time.xls
Example: statistics_20140423_142754.xls
Once I need to open the file (only in the mornings), it has to be the one from the previous day to see the yesterdays performance. How can I create a macro that will look at the date in the file and take the one from yesterday?
This will be a part of a macro I'm making. The rest of the macro will just format the file and combine a few ones from different departments.
I have a lot of data that I want to put into another workbook so as to free up space and make the workbook efficient, however, I do not know how to open a workbook in VBA.
Once this workbook is open, I then want to sum the data based on set criteria.
I need a code to open a file automatically based on file name, for example if the active file name is "trial", then it need to open another file named "trial1" based on which the macro will run, because I have two set of files and I want to compere daily with two users. for example the file names in Set a- iron, cement, stone, sand where as the set b-iron1, cement1, stone1, sand1

Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:Spreadsheets" & Range("A1") & ".xls"
is there a way using VBA code that you can have a file path entered into cell 'A1'
and then when you run the macro, the file referenced in the file path in cell 'A1' will open,
The code below opens a window which allows the user to select a file to open. Apparently, it starts in the directory of the file containing the macro. How would I modify this to open in "M:Archived PO ResponsesProcessed"?

For example I have 3files named Dept1, Dept2, Dept3 and I have one more file named Cost Sheet which contained macro and based on the cell D2 of my macro file I need to open the particular file i.e Dept1, Dept2 or Dept3 and the updated procedure and cell ranges are same for all file
I have the current code that opens our raw data file and copys it into my workbook. However it now turns out the file is saved everyday as a new file with todays date on the end. Here is my current code:
Sub CopyRaw()
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
Sheets("PROD_SELECTION").Visible = True
Sheets("PROD_SELECTION").Select
ActiveWindow.SelectedSheets.Delete
Application.DisplayAlerts = True
[Code] .....
Todays file is now in the name "I:SalesSales and MarketingMarketing List Product Selection Details (20140416)"
I know i can do this somehow using the Date function but the closest I have got is using
"YEAR(NOW())&RIGHT(MONTH(NOW())+100,2)&DAY(NOW())"
To generate todays date like so: "20140416" but I dont know how to get that into my code correctly so i open the file with that on the end.
I have files saved as a code, then a customer name. I'm trying to write some more code to open the file only based on the initial code.
For example the file name is X090000 TEST
This doesn't work;
Open("V:\\\" & oldFileName & "*" _
& ".doc")
I would like to run a macro that is going to open a file (Test.xls) Simple so far....
However, this file is 1. stored every month in a different folder (eg: 200709,200710, etc..) and the file is named according to the month (eg: Test09.xls, Test10.xls, etc...)
In my excel book, I did created two cells which I already use to save a document according to those cells. One cell with Acct Period (200710) and another one with the month (10).
I have tried the following formula with no success:
OpenWorkbook "\pathpathpath" & Range("Accout Period") & "Test" & Range("Month") & ".xls"
I managed to create some code that will connect to a workbook and take the data from there.
It is kind of SQL mixed with VBA. I just got this by finding it in google (I don't have the link handy now).
What the file does, is it will take 2 columns from a workbook called "Test.xls" and then take out 2 columns "Name" and "ID".
The only thing is, this is only a test and not the actual files I need to open. the files are always saved on the same folder, but the name is the day of the export of it. So when I export a file today, it will get 2014.09.10.xls. The sheet (only 1) will also get that name.
How could I change the below code that it will take that file based on today's date and read from the sheet with today's data?
VB:
Sub sbADO()
Dim sSQLQry As String
Dim ReturnArray
Dim Conn As New ADODB.Connection
Dim mrs As New ADODB.Recordset
Dim DBPath As String, sconnect As String
'DBPath = ThisWorkbook.FullName

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have numerous sub directories, C:/Jobs/12500 – 12599, C:/Jobs/12600 – 12699 etc, within these directories exist spreadsheets with file names like 12675.xls (in this case it’s in the “12600 – 12699” directory). In my open spreadsheet, in cell A1, there is a job number, say 12675. I want to find and open the existing 12675.xls spreadsheet. If the spreadsheet does not exist, a template (Costing.xlt), in a fixed directory, is opened and then saved, in the correct sub directory i.e. C:/Jobs/12600 – 12699/12675.xls. I am now using the following code, but the directory is fixed. How can it be modified to work with variable directories?
On Error Resume Next
Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:Spreadsheets" & Range("A1") & ".xls"
If Err <> 0 Then
Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:SpreadsheetsCosting.xlt"
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs "C:Spreadsheets" & Range("A1") & ".xls"
End If
On Error Goto 0
Is it possible, in vba, to copy two sets of cell values to two clipboards (clipboard1 and clipboard2?), open another workbook and paste those two seperate clipboard values into another two cells?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to copy multiple cells from 1 worksheet to another worksheet on different workbook and for every entry it has to create a sequence #
- source file (ex. data1.xls, data2.xls, etc)
* data & field structure is fixed
- destination file (case1.xls)
* field structure is fixed
1) destination file (case1) will be opened first, a button is prepared (associated w/ macro) and it will open the source file (ex data1.xls) & then copy the cells B2,B3 and E2,E3
2) the copied cells will be pasted to destination file (case1) in cells B3,C3 and D3,E3 respectively
3) a sequence # will be created in cell A of the destination file
this process will be repeated to other remaining files (ex. data2.xls same structure as data1.xls) manually. It means i will perform the task only if required. i have a created a simple code attached to case1.xls
I have a file, with this dummy data
Fruit Country QTy
Apple India 100
Apple USA 200
Orange India 150
Grapes Aus 100
Grapes India 100
I need to macro, wherby it will create 3 files namely apple, orange,grapes and store the relevant rows.
Hence I need a macro to split file into different files based on different values in a column and accordingly name it .
I'm on excel 2010 and I have a small group excel files I open everyday. Most of the files are static in name and location. I've got a macro created to open those files, which works fine with workbooks.open and the file path.
There are two report files I want to incorporate into my macro of workbooks to open. The files are created weekly and the files names have the following format: "Report Name (YYYY-MM-DD).xlsm". I don't want to use the file's last modified date because older files may get edited after the more recent ones are created. The files are also not always created on the same day, so the solution needs to be flexible enough to not refer to a specific day of the week or anything.
Macro open an excel file based on the latest date found in filename.
I want to create a macro that will “open the look in list” and stop so I can pick a file to open. I’ve tried to use “record a macro” and “ctrl-o”, but the record a macro won’t stop until I pick a file or cancel the file list. I also tried to use “o” in the short cut key box
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am working on a spreadsheet for a shoe company. I have separate columns for the size, model, color, and item number of a shoe. I get everything except for the item number from a written document; I then have to find the item number for the shoe from another excell document called the Master List.
I was hoping there would be a way to have Excell auto-fill the item number for me. For example, if a shoe is a Red, Athens (the shoe model),size 12, its item number (which can be a pain to find) listed in the row of the Master List is aaabbb. So I want to just enter in the size, color and model number, and have Excell find the item number for me, and fill it in.
I have enclosed an example. Sheet 1 is the sheet I would be working on. Sheet 2 is a portion of the Item master list, which is actually 50k lines.
I have two workbooks. One is a no-nonsense form interface that my bosses will use to enter safety information. I'll call this workbook "Form". This file is stored locally on each of their computers. The other workbook is stored on a common drive. I'll call it "Master".
When my bosses fill out the Form and click "Submit", the Master file is opened, and certain cells are populated based on information entered in the Form. This is the code I am using to make this happen:
I'm doing the following:
Dim myname As String
myname = Application. GetOpenFilename
I use it to attempt to open first a QuickBooks file and then an excel workbook.
The Quickbooks file opens fine. The Excel workbook never appears to open but
I do get the full file pathname to my excel workbook returned which I then
parse off to get just the workbook name.
Why would it behave this way? I open both these files manually all the time.
Also, I'm trying to use a filter as follows:
myname = Application.GetOpenFilename("*.QBW")
I get a compile error saying that I'm calling the function wrong.
Here's what we need to do:
We are compiling one master spreedsheet from many smaller ones and I need to figure out how to copy them quickly and efficiently. For example:
Small Spreadsheet:
Column B is marked as P, M, C or S. This represents the type of the account.
Column C is the name of the account.
Master Spreadsheet:
We have a column for each account type (P,M,C,S)
Can we use a formula/macro to automatically copy columns B and C from the small sheet and organize them accordingly in the Master Spreadsheet?
For example:
Small spreadsheet:
P Account Name1
M Account Name 2
M Account Name3
C Account Name4
M Account Name5
would appear in the Master Spreadsheet as:
P M C
Account Name1 Account Name2
Account Name1 Account Name3 Account Name4
Account Name1 Account Name5
I just stumbled onto this forum while Googling around, and it looks great. I'm pretty new to VBA coding so please bear with me. Effectively what I'm looking to do in this mock-up file, is anywhere the currency is "EUR" in column A, I'd like the relative cell in Column G to change to "INSERT TEXT", else I want it to untouched (i.e. to keep the comment it currently has).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have data like in excel, which I uploaded and I need "simple" thing, If in column G is text Australia then copy from D column each cell which has "AUS1*" + copy the same number cell from C column and copy it into cell A and B. I hope I wrote it understandable
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure why this doesn't work on the dummy data?
Problems:It doesn't recognize the September 2011 datesIt is supposed to pull dates between July and August (i.e. 2 dates) and pull everything except those dates.
The date strings have to be variable based since it can't be hard coded.
Code:
Sub copyrow()
Dim rc As Integer, row As Integer, i As Integer
Dim mm As String, fdt As String, pdt As String, mo As String, yr As String
Dim Date1 As String, Date2 As String
mm = Month(Date) - 1
mo = Format(Now(), "mm") 'ex. "08"
yr = Format(Now(), "yyyy")
Date1 = mm & "/01/" & yr
Date2 = mo & "/01/" & yr

I have the following data
Country
Aug-13
Sep-13
Oct-13
Nov-13
UK
3
5
3
2
USA
10
14
16
13
France
1
5
7
9
What I would like to do is sum a specific range of this data based on three criteria. Each criteria is in its own cell.
- Start Date
- End Date
- Country
So if I wanted to sum from 'Sep-13' to 'Nov-13' for 'USA', the formula would give me the answer 43.
I am really struggling to summarise weekly budget data into period budget data by subcategory.
I have column headings A3 being Subcategory B3 being GL Code & C3 being GL Name - where column B & C are distinct values but column A are not. And then in D2 I have the period no e.g. P01, with the Week no in D3. I want to sum all cells that are in a particular subcategory and period - the data set is broken down by weeks.
I have a query in relation to locking cells to disallow editing based on a dynamic range. The VBA code I have thus far is this :
Sub PasteForecastWO()
rowarr = Array(10, 26, 28, 69, 72, 79, 81, 87, 89, 104, 106, 114, 116, 122)
For Each ce In Range("S8:AD8")
If ce = "ACTUAL" Then
For i = LBound(rowarr) To UBound(rowarr) Step 2
Range(Cells(rowarr(i), ce.Column), Cells(rowarr(i + 1), ce.Column)).Value = Range(Cells(rowarr(i), ce.Column), Cells(rowarr(i + 1), ce.Column)).Value
Next i
End If
Next ce
End Sub
What I would like to do is lock the range that applies as the variable "ACTUAL" moves or changes along the range S8:AD8. I have attached the relevant sheet so that you may get a clearer picture.
I need a macro that will check that the cells B1,C1,D1,E1 and one of the cells F1,G1,H1,I1 are filed out upon entry in A1.
If Not IsEmpty(.Range("A1")) Then
If WorksheetFunction. CountA(.Range("B1,C1,D1,E1")) <> 4 Then
MsgBox "All cells in row 1 are not filled out"
Application.Goto .Range("A1:I1")
Exit Sub
But how do I get it to also check that either F1 or G1 or H1 or I1 is also filled out. If possible I also would like it to beimpossible to add text in more then one of the cells F1:I1. Summary, upon entry in A1 I want cells B1:E1 plus one of the cells in F1:I1 to be mandatory, so in total there will be 5 mandaory cells.
